Evolve or get left behind Gazzuzz. My disappointment is that you tried to lie to win the argument knowing fully well what you were saying wasn't true. Beyond that, the rest of the discussion is personal preference but times are changing. I'm going to keep telling you that because I like you and you seem to have built something for yourself that you wouldn't want to lose being stubborn.
Calm down....... Mama kiss

remanufactured crankshaft is a poorly manufactured crankshaft, then repaired abi?

I have been "rebuilding" engines for clients before all this we can do it started...

It is just an option when the engine is not far gone.

A proper teardown and repair is more expensive than what you just painted, and sadly in my opinion client would have gotten a better deal with a low mileage replacement because 100per of the engine would be very low mileage while in the pic above 10-20per of engine will have new/ remanufactured parts.

if you want to be transparent, give full details of what was/will be replaced at what cost.

no one says don't rebuild, please do, but don't make it seem like you are the only ones replacing engine parts.

Ask manufacturer for me please I don tire.
If it was bad in the first manufacture they should melt it down and make a new one nah grin

I will rather have one that was manufactured well, used for like 30-60,000km (18,000-36,000miles) asian specs Sharp toks engine grin

As your can see, a reman is done by MANUFACTURER and carries same warranty as new. It is NOT a tokunbo which is defined as a fairly used part. Not even close- and you know that. I'm a little disappointed in you that you'd try to pull that tbh.

what are they remanufacture in a crankshaft? huh
Car Talk › Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by GAZZUZZ(op): 5:42am On Aug 25, 2018
Give a full breakdown of what this current rebuild involves.

As I said before, swapping out crankshafts and oilpumps is not new, it's done every day as a quick cheap fix for a client with a low budget.

used engines come in different packages too, same 1zz-fe engine can be gotten for As low as 150,000 (usa/canada specs)

remove engine put another one 6hrs, car is back on the road and will stay on the road for over 100,000miles no shaking. Cost of labour 35k

Okay. 180-200k engine. How much labor and what is warranty with you? Owner was presented both options.
1 Full year and I will sleep well at night.

I have used engine running for over 4years in a lot of engine bays.
Car Talk › Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by GAZZUZZ(op): 5:14am On Aug 25, 2018
This is not new, when clients are on a tight budget, a lot of mechanics do stuff like this.

Just turn the engine upside down, throw in a standard crankshaft with oem Bearings and replace oil pump. Engine will run quiet. It's a cheap fix.

Does not solve oil burn issues.

If you have to teardown this engine and do a proper job from Cylinder head all the way to the bottom you will spend more than 300k.

You are yet to answer the question

What did you do to the crankshaft.
Car Talk › Re: To Rebuild Or To Replace? by GAZZUZZ(op): 5:05am On Aug 25, 2018
EgunMogaji:
Crankshaft: It is rare to have to change a crankshaft. Very rare. Bearings are design to be disposable, not crankshafts. Also. crankshafts can be reground to the next size.

Bearings: These are cheap replacement consumable parts.

Piston Rings: Like crankshaft, they may not be needed. Heck I may not even remove the pistons depending on the condition of the cylinder bores. If the engine has good compression across the cylinders, but has knocking sound down in the engine then I may not touch the cylinders. The key is discussing this with the owner.

Oil pumps: are cheap replacements, considering their location and the labor of replacement. Oil pump replacement has its own set of troubleshooting.

Was the engine damaged due to lack of oil, overrevving, etc

We need to figure these things out.
its a corrola 2004-6 mileage would be over 200,000. Car has been on a 20w50 diet, look at the tyres? It's most likely our e-hailing brothers. Piston rings are gone for sure.

Attacking a problem (crankshaft/rattling) is one way of fixing presented problems.

Another way is giving a fresh start.

Madam said something above that the services she's offering a bare minimum and expected in the USA - something like this.

Two issues I see here.

1) Madams clientele are not going to be 100% Nairalanders (mine won't and I knew from banging my head against the wall in the past on here to keep my mouth shut). Her clients will seek her and come in on bent knees after experiencing the Kamorus and Kasalis grin

2) No one can be convinced of having to rebuild their engines until they have either experienced it or know of others. It's simply a foreign idea to most in the Camry/Accord ownership because those engines are two for ten kobo at ladipo.

When you have say a top flight German car that a used engine cost $8 to $10K nobody will tell you to start looking for someone to rebuild your existing lump.

So Madam may be preaching psalm 21 to islamic students. I tried and gave up. Not on the business idea but on convincing non believers.
Now that's More like it. Not this 180-200k 1zz engine.

Did I miss something? No, I didn't avoid answering anything. Those questions were already answered when I said the owner had a 6 month warranty on parts and labor.

You asked about parts cost, I gave it to you immediately. Or did you want a breakdown by piece because I don't have that as you know I'm not there.

Then major2013 asked about new or used which I just thought was inane given how clear I have been in the past about how we go about things even in this same thread. Then, in an attempt to be saucy, he asked where we would source the motor when I clearly stated we were not replacing the motor?

At that price, parts are reman if not we wouldn't offer a warranty at all remember? We don't warranty parts that are not ours and we don't sell used or toks.

I thought that was previously established.

To cap it all, under normal circumstances I'd have the time and motivation to explain all that again from mayor2013's first attempted dig. Right now however after almost three months, I have more time for Daddy RADU than to go over the same thing I clearly explained before again. I'm sure you've noticed my activity drop significantly on Nairaland grin
This is what I would consider a standard rebuild.

Brand new standard crankshaft. (Not a cut to next size)

brand new OEM oil pump.

brand new bearings.

brand new pistons

brand new piston rings.

there is no way any one will achieve this with 300k without labour charge.

Ild rather do the used engine.

Parts 140k, labor 100k. 6 month warranty on both.
from this answer I am certain a used crankshaft is involved.

You have avoided answering a lot of questions, but it is understandable.

i got a mechanic to clean the sump clean the filter net and replace the filter.which he did we poured back the oil started the car the oil light went off i was so happy.
but later this evening i decided to check the oil gauge but there was nothing on the dip stick i then proceeded to check the oil fill port there is oil in there and there is no leak
there should be oil on the stick. Fill up with more oil until it reflects on the stick.

Didn't even consider this. Gazzuzz. It's not that it didn't have VIN plates. They were removed and the remaining one scratched off. This is the exact response I got from my Auto Assistant when I asked how they got the year with no VIN in the system:

"He told me the year, he was kind of rude, when I asked for the papers, and his email, but was able to get the other information!"
use this to verify vin using existing plates.

Gazzuzz please what could be the cause of re occurring over heating... both fans working, double cell radiator, radiator still intact. Radiator coolant present.

Ac compressor changed recently. Overheating occurs mostly on long distance, whether traffic or no traffic. Rises above normal a bit for a long time... then gets hit thereafter. With or without AC

Toyota Camry 2007
faulty radiator, faulty water pump, Faulty head gasket.

Start by checking the simple things like pressure cap (radiator cover), Fan direction, restricted airflow.

Good Morning Mr Gazzuzz! Please My Toyota Corolla had a engine timing chain snap which I tried to fix and the vehicle started having the problem of jerking when braking or engaging the gear. And most at times going off when trying to engage gear.

I have bought new tok engine but the problem braking yerking still persist. My plug and fuel nozzles are all in tack, Transmission fluid has also been changed. Though I changed the engine cos of unusual noise. Please I need an auto expert to guide me on the trouble shooting options for my mechanic. Thanks

House question.

Would you work on a car with no VIN (either removed or partly scratched off) AND the owner couldn't produce the papers?
as long as you not changing the colour, do your work, and write an invoice.

Collect customer info and compare to vehicle docs.

Meanwhile every kia rio 05-11 sold in nigeria as brand new did not come with a VIN plate, just paper stickers that ware off with time. Nothing engraved any where.

will you avoid all of them?

WHY, WHY, WHY DO PEOPLE BUY A NEW CAR WITH THE INTENTION OF BUYING A NEW ENGINE?? I'm really trying to understand why people do this.. you're starting out the gate with expenses and problems you are not sure will be cheaply solved. Please help me understand... embarassed huh

Also, you need a lot more than an engine according to what I'm reading. Looks like your transmission is also going out.
Nah budget.

First I go buy the 4legs (put my village people to shame)

then I go de repair am small small wink (monthly contribution to the rebuild)

Car Talk › Re: Difficulty Starting Skoda Octavia TDI Diesel by GAZZUZZ(m): 8:32pm On Aug 23, 2018
9icetoo:
The rains in pH didn't help. I have touched everything except the timing of the car so I decided to try out what I had read on a TDI forum.
I adjusted the camshaft timing by turning it counter clock wise.
When I tried starting the car, the engine revolved faster than it usually does but this time, there was no white smoke coming out of the exhaust. While cranking I was observing the instant fuel consumption display and realised it remained stuck at zero. Usually, the readout goes to about 0.8liters/minute and car fires up.

This means diesel wasn't being injected.

I adjusted the camshaft fully clockwise, this time the fuel display showed 1.1litres/minute during crank and car started after a prolonged crank.

Well, I burnt out my starter while doing this.

However, it made me realise that my issue is with timing. I have ordered for a timing belt kit.
Will use a mechanic to install when it arrives. That type of work is above my pay grade. Will also replace the bad starter. It actually brought out smoke. grin
I don't think I agree with you, but let's sit back and watch.
