This is a 2008kia rio, it has a lot of contenders in its line of work, and drivers are always complaining about ratings. To improve driver ratings, I will make riders more comfortable ![]() So im installing DVD screens in the back for in-car entertainment, and.... www.nairaland.com/attachments/6197199_img20171102151551_jpeg79b57148ebbcd7e5bacb9324f6d1e7a9www.nairaland.com/attachments/6198512_img20171102155304_jpeg4ba1411689372bce62adc036b69f1d3awww.nairaland.com/attachments/6198514_img20171102155229_jpegd19a0844c9f87d31bbca4f10dc324c28 Massage seats in the rear. brake pads are essential for bringing a car to a halt. I am avoiding every possible story or breakdown, so I will swap out the unknown brand and place a pair of original mando brake pads, good to go for almost 50,000km (~10months) Next brake fluid. Brake fluid should be drained and refilled every 100,000km. I will be installing ATE brake fluid, it is not corosive and brake seals last longer with this brand. Pic ATE Next looks... |
Next suspension. My intention is steady income, so I would not want to hear stories like I had a flat or damaged tyre, so a set of *brand new* tyres come to play. Pics here. I already checked suspension parts and It is in top condition, but essentially for any one who is about to go into transport business. Essential Suspension parts to check are. Ball joints, lower control arms, brakepads C.V joints and struts. To ensure tyres last long alignment is necessary, and tyre rotation (front to back) at every oil change to avoid uneven wear. pics of timing belt change are not available at the moment, they are on a staffs phone and he will be back in town on sat. Lets skip the pics on timing belt and cover other grounds. Fuel consumption was a bit high, but it didnt take any special diagnosis to find out why, kazeem had thrown out the thermostat and wired the fans directly. No thermostat. www.nairaland.com/attachments/6198560_img20171102173332_jpegae8020210d764b263db86a2b135615c4 Theres an easy way to know if your thermostat is present or not. From cold start vehicle temp guage should hit half mark in 15mins (max) irrespective of external weather conditions. On wet days (in rain) temp should remain steady at halfmark and not drop, if it does, there is no theremostat in coolant housing or it is failing. For this particular vehicle, there is no temperature guage. The silly designers felt there was no need to put a metered temp guage, so instead, they put 2 lights by the temperature signs. BLUE and RED Blue light: This indicates engine coolant temperature is below 50deg celcius Red light : coolant temp is above 100deg celcius. Blue light. www.nairaland.com/attachments/6198594_img20171101064021_jpeg910c5c88a6d301aa214b4bf3c8e50287 In my case the blue light stays on for over 20mins , meaning idle speed will remain over 1,000rpm (trying to warm engine up) and longer pulses on injectors to warm engine up quicker by over fuelling. To solve this I will buy and install an inexpensive part that most Roadside mechanics throw away, a thermostat. I will also inspect entire coolant system for leaks, drain water in system and install high quality toyota coolant. Im sure you wondering why I am adding toyota coolant into a kia, well, I am sure of the quality and source, and I am not breaking any laws ![]() To make this quicker I will skip a few pics, but put them later. Pic of replacement thermostat www.nairaland.com/attachments/6204249_img20171103190941_jpegd0a4f37a03bc6d585ae324ea540d7299 www.nairaland.com/attachments/6203691_img20171103191006_jpegf0c580d6be8521b57baa52743bc1a35a I got it at no cost ![]() |

fizzybaba:I am sorry. Fixing your car was not an option, as it is not supported in my workshop, based on its age. As per my inability to respond to your query on nairaland the 2nd poster gave you a rundown of most of your issues, you could have quoted me for more info. I informed him of my car troubles and he requested me to create a thread and mention him. I found this strange and quite unconventional as I had hoped to agree a time to take my car to him or buy parts. As for the quoted, I give free consultancy Nairaland for irrespective of my workshop support, I was only offering to help you remotely for free. Glad you were able to fix your car. |
murphyimport:you asked I responded. If you can find original parts and a good technician fine. |
This is cartalk, and we are talking. One of the most sensitive engine systems I know of is the peugeout 607. Its very quick to enter limp mode at any slight deviation from its factory settings. The 607 will still rev far above 2000rpm if stuck in limp mode. Now we are talking NISSAN, and a specific model, the 2003 pathfinder. I will continue when I leave ladipo.... |
have you been using 20w50 with API certification? ![]() |
connkg:9am I was in my workshop on monday. |
bigboa:some vehicle designs are just pure evil. I am not very familiar with the inner workings of the 05 escape, but one thing I am sure of is our terrain in nigeria does not support placing sensitive parts at the base of a car. |

chloedogie:protective system designed to limit RPM so you dont rev accross 4rpm. Put car in drive push the pedal to the floor, you will hit 6000rmp very easily. Sumary nothing is wrong with powertrain. As for SRS (supplimentary restraint system), you need to scan airbag system. |
3kay945:it will remain at same point when engine is overheating. |
princetom1:Uncle come lets find out. |
@ cold start engine rorations are over 1000rpm, when warm about 800rmp if you Have a jerk @ high rpms, check engine mounts as ponted out by cardoctor. |
