The vehicle is Rav4 ' 02. Bought naija used last year. I was told by a guy at Ladipo that I have manual brain box installed.

I was Surprise cos I didnt believe such could be possible. But looking at the BrainBox housing, it clearly shows that it's has been tampered with.

I will appreciate if gurus in the house help in determining if actually I have manual or automatic BrainBox.

It's my first car and still a learner. Thanks in advance.

The oil 'question' still remains...

2008 RAV4 (Auto Transmission): Used 20w 50 motor oil (20w 50 oil is one of the oils recommended in the owners manual that came with the car) every 5000km since the vehicle was bought in 2008. No engine problems whatsoever in 9 years except for a leaking valve cover seal, replaced in 2016. After going through what's been said in so many auto forums over the years, I switched to 5w 30 (expensive ) this year. Still no problems so far. No smoking and oil consumption has remained unchanged - no oil needed between services.

Have done two transmission drain & refills in 8 years, with the most recent being 2 months ago. No major transmission issues except a stiffness (which comes and goes) and which we have learned to live with.

2012 Camry A/T): Also used 20w 50 motor oil since the vehicle was bought in 2012. Again no engine problems whatsoever till I switched to 5w 30 this year. And still no problems so far. (And again, 20w 50 is recommended in the owners manual that came with the car). Have never done a transmission drain & refill. No transmission problems so far.

Fuel economy is definitely much better in both vehicles with the 5w 30 motor oil - i guess that offsets part of the high cost of the motor oil. The big question is this: why does Toyota recommend 20w 50 oil if (according to so many people) its no good?

A friend of mine visited, as he was about to go. He started his lexus L300 and tries to engage the gear the car went off. He tried it several times each time he engages the gear the car still goes off.

What could be the cause?

Car is a toyota camry 2000
I changed my engine oil to manufacturer's specification(5W30) but unfortunately there is a leak from the engine oil drain plug and when i checked underneath the car, it was soiled with engine oil . I used the 20W50 for about 2 years and I always changed the oil every 3 months (less than 2000 Miles) religiously and I never had issues as regards leakage from the engine oil drain plug but underneath the engine was still soiled with engine oil.

Question now is; Do i revert to the 20W50 oil and then how to i stop the engine from being soiled with oil.

I actually inherited this vehicle,

It is a 2008 kia rio, manual transmission. comes in a 1.4liter petrol engine.
It is a sedan.

Idealy I would have bought an automatic, but I am working with what I have currently.

for where? a car "maintained by gazuzz" to have faulty fuel gauge? lai lai ....... gazuzz wey no dey manage part at all? if the paint scratch small......respray! the headlamp get small dark patch...... change it!!! the Honda get small ......noise..... call luvinghubby and change it! the hose is leaking but no significant fuel issue........ CHANGEEEEEEEE IT!!! is it the same gazuzz that has a car with faulty fuel gauge?

2. Durable for roads that is doesn't spoil easily.
3. No gear issues.

you currently have a clogged transmission strainer.

Clean/replace and car will work fine.

BUT

You have bits of metal filings blocking strainer presently.

Gear will continue to fail at intervals.

Each time you clean strainer it will work.

Replace gear.

Find out what is killing present one (possibly engine ecu fault)
