PoliticsRe: 2015: Yoruba Must Not Play Second Fiddle - HID by Gbawe: 7:59am On Feb 22, 2013
I know we respect the elderly to a fault in Nigeria but some of these old folks should learn humility also and refrain from talking in ways that heat up the polity and make the work of the younger folks, who are actually involved, more difficult. Doing opposite is sheer arrogance. I don't know why some prominent Nigerian elders are now keen to speak and act in ways that will erode the respect accorded them.

Sincere 9gerian: Where are those Fashola for president/vice president activists? We need them on this thread to COWATIATE their fantasies
Son, go and find somewhere to lay your head and sleep off the ogogoro making you to misyarn. I had to laugh at your pea-brained analysis below driven by nothing but bad-belle for a man who has made an international name for himself as an outstanding administrator you know your messiah will never come close to if he spent 200 years in office. I know that is the real reason for your obsession with Fashola. The entire world loves the man yet many can now not bring themselves to have regard for GEJ. If Cameron is not mocking him as corrupt, Amanpour is taking the mickey grin grin

Let me ask you a question. Tony Blair too was a lawyer. Why did he not pick up his wig and go back into private practice after finishing as PM?

Your Messiah GEJ nko? What will he do after office? Head back to the lecture hall? Probably. There will not much demand for a mediocre administrator, openly criticised and disdained by other world leaders. Sadly, GEJ, unlike Fashola and the Blairs of the world, has no redeeming grace as he is only known for lacking political will, being devoid of sincerity, making problems worse and perambulate while the house burns.

It would appear that after leaving office in 2015, Fashola would be left with no other option but to face a private life, and most likely pick up the wig and gown once again and go back to the legal profession. If need be some of us will be glad to hire him to argue our case.

Fashola is a good example of effective leadership in our day. This man is the one to bring metro lane into Nigeria. He rejuvenate Lagos economy, most of his projects have a tremendous seduction to foreign investment.
Perhaps you're not aware of this- Lagos has a company that produce transformer which we previously procure abroad. In the next 5 years with the efforts of Fashola Lagos would be measure with Dubai in all infrastructures.
Kai !!!!!!! grin grin grin grin grin grin
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo And Tinubu: Who Is A Better Leader? by Gbawe: 7:05pm On Feb 21, 2013
Tinubu in my opinion. You judge leaders by the good they have done for those they lead. Tinubu has never led at the federal level as OBJ has. We are then only left to compare their activities mainly as political leaders and 'kingmakers' in their region. There is simply no denying, unless one is talking to the most unreasonable person, the fact that Tinubu literally rescued the SW from its criminalisation by OBJ. Left to OBJ, PHD holders and very talented technocrats will remain taking instructions from the late Adedibu and serving him lunch. That was the warped world OBJ wanted for the SW i.e unthinking thugs on top and the most intelligent and talented individuals relegated to the background almost as if OBJ had absolute disdain for them.

It was especially telling that OBJ always favoured crude bullies, criminals and vicious thugs as his 'Garrison commanders" but Tinubu, for all his faults, has never had any use for those sort as leaders.

Everyone will have their opinion but more important than anything else for development is setting standards, based on merit, no leader should go below. Pointless, given the requirement of top political offices, to support mediocrities into very influential positions knowing fully well that doing this will ruin lives.

Tinubu appreciates that development , using bright and able administrators, must still go on alongside everything else while OBJ never cared for that and actually appeared to take a perverse happiness in ruining the SW with his criminal gang. No contest really.
We need to understand the Basic Idealogies of Both parties in Nigeria according to their economic policies.
PDP - Neoliberalism
According to Boas and Gans-Morse nowadays the most common use of the term neoliberalism refers to economic reform policies such as “eliminating price controls, deregulating capital markets and lowering trade barriers”, and reducing state influence on the economy especially by privatization and fiscal austerity. The term is used in several senses: as an ideology the term is used to denote a conception of freedom as an overarching social value associated with reducing state functions to those of a minimal state; and finally as an academic paradigm the term is closely related to neoclassical economic theory.

Some people believe that the term is used as a pejorative for policies that deregulate the private sector and increase its role in the economy
Neoliberalism is in the first instance a theory of political economic practices that proposes that human well-being can best be advanced by liberating individual entrepreneurial freedoms and skills within an institutional framework characterized by strong private property rights, free markets and free trade. The role of the state is to create and preserve an institutional framework appropriate to such practices. The state has to guarantee, for example, the quality and integrity of money. It must also set up those military, defence, police and legal structures and functions required to secure private property rights and to guarantee, by force if need be, the proper functioning of markets. Furthermore, if markets do not exist (in areas such as land, water, education, health care, social security, or environmental pollution) then they must be created, by state action if necessary. But beyond these tasks the state should not venture. State interventions in markets (once created) must be kept to a bare minimum because, according to the theory, the state cannot possibly possess enough information to second-guess market signals (prices) and because powerful interest groups will inevitably distort and bias state interventions (particularly in democracies) for their own benefit.
Neoliberalism seeks to transfer control of the economy from public to the private sector, under the belief that it will produce a more efficient government and improve the economic health of the nation. The definitive statement of the concrete policies advocated by neoliberalism is often taken[citation needed] to be "Washington Consensus", a list of policy proposals that appeared to have gained consensus approval among the Washington-based international economic organizations (like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank). Williamson's list included ten points:
Fiscal policy Governments should not run large deficits that have to be paid back by future citizens, and such deficits can have only a short term effect on the level of employment in the economy. Constant deficits will lead to higher inflation and lower productivity, and should be avoided. Deficits should only be used for occasional stabilization purposes.
Redirection of public spending from subsidies (especially what neoliberals call "indiscriminate subsidies"wink and other spending neoliberals deem wasteful toward broad-based provision of key pro-growth, pro-poor services like primary education, primary health care and infrastructure investment
Tax reform– broadening the tax base and adopting moderate marginal tax rates to encourage innovation and efficiency;
Interest rates that are market determined and positive (but moderate) in real terms;
Floating exchange rates;
Trade liberalization – liberalization of imports, with particular emphasis on elimination of quantitative restrictions (licensing, etc.); any trade protection to be provided by low and relatively uniform tariffs; thus encouraging competition and long term growth
Liberalization of the "capital account" of the balance of payments, that is, allowing people the opportunity to invest funds overseas and allowing foreign funds to be invested in the home country
Privatization of state enterprises; Promoting market provision of goods and services which the government cannot provide as effectively or efficiently, such as telecommunications, where having many service providers promotes choice and competition.
Deregulation – abolition of regulations that impede market entry or restrict competition, except for those justified on safety, environmental and consumer protection grounds, and prudent oversight of financial institutions;
Legal security for property rights;
If we had more contributing intelligently as you do perhaps the cretins here will learn or at worst be shamed into silence. Many here try to get the forum looking at issues but that approach is never successful because majority prefer a sentimental and personality-focused examination of every topic under discussion.

I have tried, to no end, to show that almost any Party will be better than the PDP if we inspect the core ideology and political leaning of the ruling Party. The PDP, because it shaping pillars are essentially the crude thinking of the military/uniformed class, cannot sanction any economic model which will truly liberate Nigeria to develop optimally via leveraging on merit and the notion of letting unbridled innate talent, present in all Nigerians, position us optimally.

We have not said any Party is full of saint and we are not arguing that Nigeria will become utopia under any Party. The consistent argument is that Nigeria will move frward considerably under any Party aside the PDP because the ruling Party is merely an apparatus with which former military men reinvented themselves in 1999 to continue the democratic despoil of Nigeria they had carried on , all too easily, previously in their military attire.

Ultimately, when some attain the mental maturity to enable them discern issues, it will be obvious that the PDP's ideology remains one allied to deceitful gradualism which was deliberately initiated , and nurtured since, to prolong the precise conditions that makes Nigeria so hideously underdeveloped.

If you are someone able to introspect honestly then you will accept that Nigeria belongs to me and you and that unsavoury elements have only been able to hijack everything good about our nation because we all stay on the sideline seeking messiahs while reserving the right to contribute nada to create the nation we want.

For now, the APC , even if not perfect, is another welcomed mallet chipping away at the unacceptable status quo because it hosts the good guys we all support even if you and others want to make the Party about a few individuals you perceive as 'unfit'. If you want to focus on the few Ogbehs, Udenwas and Ikimis as the identity of the Party, then be my guest.
I laugh when i read people decieving themselves by saying they are not politicians. The last time i read about the difference btw man and animal, one is a political animal cos he can decide is left from his right and do things that will suit him and his environ.
For Aristote, the man is a political animal (zoon politikon) which is however not the only one which lives in group: there exists many gregarious species. But the man is the only animal which, always living groups some, is also able, if necessary, to live in a politically organized company, polishes, a civil society (koinonia politikê).

The man can live without political organization, but its life is then of a lower quality. There exist people (European West too impetuous or Asian missing energy) of which psychological qualities, undoubtedly related to the climate, always according to Aristote, prohibit to them to live in cities. If the Barbarians never live in city, all Hellènes do not live in civil society, but only a part of them, eminently the Athenians: they form a community of citizens (politeai) according to the principle of the equality in the law (isonomy) and where the reports of being able are reversible, since the citizen who is ordered can order from his turn, as a magistrate. There exist communities, companies or associations, which aim at particular goals: crew of boat, army, religious brotherhood, guild of merchants propose a specific end, and it corresponds to them of precise sciences, for example the art of navigation, the strategy or the art of warfare.

But the political association is higher than all the others in two directions: it includes all other associations, which of it are the constituent parts, and it proposes a higher goal, namely the community property. And this is why the science of the civil society - political science - is the best science among the nonspeculative disciplines.

Thus, Aristote, while underlining the nonuniversal character of the policy, i.e. while supporting that the men can live apart from the political bond, affirms - the tradition augustienne or hobbesienne will differ on this point - the natural character of the policy: the political life is registered in the human gasoline, which it achieves, realizes completely; but the passage of the social animal man to the political animal man supposes that certain conditions are met. In other words, the political community is undoubtedly best communities: it is it which ensures civilization, while the life in associations, whatever they are, is a constant property of the mankind. Art (or science) political prolongs nature, but it is about a technique which can be various methods and different successes.

Back to the discussion, what is the manifesto of PDP? what is the agenda of PDP, pls can you state them. am not talking of candidates agenda but the parties agenda which will be a bases for their members to work with. I know you can mention policies and programmes that are known to all ACN states. THis are from their manifestoes and agenda. Nigeria"s problem is Nigerians. No body can take you for a ride either PDP or ACN unless we remove sentiments from our eyes and demand for issue base discussion reasons behind A and B. All ACN states expect Lagos state that just increased their tuition fees the rest states reduced the tuition fee from the hike by the previous govt, they promote more on free and qualitative education better than the previous govt. their lots and lots to talk about. Thats why i will appreciate it if you can state 2 or 3 states controlled by PDP that follows the manifesto and agenda stated by the party not the individuals.
Superb point. This is what I say here 24/7 also. Assuming discussions are issue based and not sentimental, is it not obvious that, in a thousand years, Audu Ogbeh cannot even dictate to Oshiomhole, Ngige, Fashola et al let alone the biggest and most influential stakeholders in the merger like Buhari, Tinubu, Shekarau who bring Party apparatus Ogbeh came without?

Why are people, if not mentally damaged, not excited that those we all individually touted, in the past, as capable of delivering Nigeria are now united under one umbrella? Some Nigerians seem to be so mentally damaged as to want to create more prison bars for themselves even when liberation is beckoning. Go figure.

This collection of men are experienced, successful and failures in one aspect or the other in life. For the goals set, what i expect from us is how do they intend to achieve it, what is their school of thought that makes them different from the present administration. Do they key into the present administration policies?if they dont how will they resolve some of the policy that have gulp lots of funds from the nation. I expect us to be open minded and not just critises for the sake of do so. Rome wasnt built in a day and dont expect heaven in just one day. We complain we dont like PDP govt, ACN govt, CPC govt, ANPP govt, APGA govt etc, yet we never provide alternatives. if one comes up we PHD. I think we need to be focused about nation building. The APC is answering some of your question bit by bit. The next is their manifesto which will tell you about their Idealology. let us be patient cos Politics of the opposition is a very difficult task especially in a docile nation like Nigerians. Most of the Nigerian electorates are selfish people.
Thank you for your objective viewpoints. It is Nigerians like you who can make a difference. The biggest issues most are not addressing, which always makes me repeat that many Nigerians are mentally damaged, is what we remain obsessed with i.e highlighting the negatives alone. Some remain consumed with a spirit of failure and pessimism.

The APC, without any shadow of a doubt, is an unprecedented convergence of the best leaders Nigeria has to offer. Yet Nigerians are not excited about this. They would rather focus on the single Audu Ogbeh, and make the APC about him, rather than reflect on how we all would have killed to be in this situation a few years ago. When the PDP and its OBJ's of the world were busy denying the good guys to be foisting the Ubahs, Gbenga Daniels, Oyinlolas, Alao Akala et all on Nigeria we all cursed them and swore we wanted the Utomis, Falana, Fashola, Oshiomholes, Aregbesola, Ngige et al.

Now they are all in one place and working together rather than at cross purposes. Yet no one highlights this very positive development given the PDp brigandage we are overcoming. If the APC win there is a real chance of gaining a Government with our best 11 and the good guys having the chance to dominant for once and for the good of Nigeria. Some deliberately and deceitfully wish to draw attention away from this by inanely shouting "Audu Ogbeh" up and down. Some Nigerians would rather remain focused on the negatives and 'remaining in prison' even when the prison key is right next to them. May god help and deliver us.

fistonme: i like ur analysis as stated above. But lets start by asking ourselves, why did Audu ogbe live the PDP in the first place? I dare say, he left because of ideological conflict between him and then president, Olusegun obasanjo. Same ideology that is still been exibited by PDP till tomorrow. So i blive chief audu ogbe deserves a chance to showcase his ideologies and belive
My brother, I would urge you to get comfortable with how your fellow Nigerians are some of the most sneaky, most deceitful and most fraudulent individuals on earth. Why don't you ask the charlatan you respond to why he makes the APC aboud Audu Ogbeh as if Ogbeh will simply dominate the mentality of men like Buhari,Tinubu, Akeredolu, Fashola,Osita Okechukwu, Shekarau, Oshiomhole, Ngige, EL Rufai, Ribadu, Aregbesola,Fayemi, Utomi, Oyegun, Adeola, Amosun, etc, etc, etc, etc.

These are very independent-minded men. They are the sort you avoid if all you want is a reproduction of the PDP way of doing things. It is ludicrous to think Ogbeh or Ikimi will now foist whatever they have brought from elsewhere on these progressive men, certainly some of the best Nigeria has produced, simply because some of us fail to engage our brain when we pander to our sectional/biased motivation.

If anything, those from the PDP must immediately subjugate themselves and commit to the socially responsible policies the APC will be about or ship out. How, for example, will Buhari be a part of a PDP-like thieving set up? Amosun was not originally ACN but he is doing everything precisely according to ACN policies and governance template to include leveraging on comparative economic advantage( like agriculture), mass public transport, aggressive efforts towards attracting FDI, better tax collection, aggressive efforts towards increasing IGR, qualitative education, adequate healthcare, PPP usage, infrastructural development, capital market usage to raise credit for infrastructural development etc, etc, etc.

It is just a shame Nigerians fail to think. A team has 10 Lionel Messis and one Andre Santos as its first eleven. Yet you keep insisting the team will play like Andre Santos. How sensible do you sound talking like that? Why focus on Santos while ignoring the far better players who are in the greater number by far? Which fair, objective and balanced person does that?

thelastPope: Coming out to list seven of the biggest challenges in Nigeria as a seven point agenda is laughable. Nigerians know what the problems are already. The present government is actually planning and working on what they have listed so how can anyone get excited about it? The real issue is whether they can do it better and how they can do it better. Saying for example that Power is an agenda is laughable when privatization is almost complete. The only thing Nigerians will be interested in is how they can do it better, not a listing of the problems as an "agenda" whatever that means.
How on earth will Nigerians see what the APC can do better if they don't wait for them to provide detailed plans before jumping to conclusions? This is why I avoid self-contradictory charlatans like you. I fully appreciate your motivation and personality-based limitations that badly stymies your outlook. They have told you the areas they want to concentrate on hence "agenda". The Manifesto will be out shortly to show a detailed account of what they will do for every prioritised target.

If objective you would at least wait till then before you write the foolish tripe highlighted above. No doubt when the manifesto comes out and it is brilliant and better than anything the PDP has produced, you and your ilk will move on to the next stage of pettiness that will centre around "they are lying", "that is not possible", "they make promises they cannot keep" etc. The wind of change is here and your kind will be blown away because you were the sort who originally argued they were too divided/different to merge. Now you must find new excuses, however senseless, to bolster your seedy stance.
PoliticsRe: APC Unfolds 7-point Agenda by Gbawe(op):
Mad Cow: I didnt set out decieve anybody o!! And my HATRED for the Kingpin of Boko Haram which we all know is Buhari is not hidden. Its strange how you would say that the PDP led government is the sponsor of Boko Haram and yet fail to point out how Boko Haram menace only started getting deadly after Buharis threat to make the country ungoverneble should he lose the Presidential elections of 2011 which he did. So President Goodluck came out to say that Boko Haram had infiterated his government and you take that to mean weakness. Lol. Even a U.S General once openly admited that Al-Queda has infilterated their ranks and files. Thats not evidence of weakness. It simply means that they have infilterated. But dont worry, Buhari their leader will soon die.

Cut off the head and the body dies.

On the security bit, I dont get you. It wasnt part of their 7 POINT AGENDA. Infact, Corruption and security which is our current biggest problems were not a part of their 7 point Agenda. Rather, they PARTLY mentioned it, sort of like a side note. Meaning on their scale of importance, the 7 Point Agenda comes before these. How did I try to be misleading?! Na wah o!! Read that your highlighted post again.

P.S: Buhari is a terrorist financier and attack strategist and tactician. Dont forget that he was in the Army as a General.
Reproduced below is what you wrote:

It is obvious to any sane person, not a mind reader, that your words literally means that you are saying security was not mentioned. Simple. Now you are shown that they indeed mentioned security, you change tact to say:

On the security bit, I dont get you. It wasnt part of their 7 POINT AGENDA
I will let others judge you because I don't have time for pointless back and forth based on using pedantism to hide how folks like you simply seek negatives to disguise your real agenda. I deliberately let this thread gain many responses before contributing beyond the initial post. The reason is that, before today, the criticism was "they have no manifesto", "we don't know their plan", "how come they have not revealed their plans for Nigeria" etc, etc, etc.

Now that this article provides a start towards everyone gaining an understanding of the thinking of the APC,suddenly, no one is interested any more. The criticism of yesterday, regarding lack of information, flies out of the window to be replaced with sneers about Audu Ogbeh and "why 7 and not 5 or 10". No one has even bothered to inspect salient issues. I say it here daily that many Nigerians, even if they don't know it, are mentally damaged goods who have long ceased to see what matters.

They tell you they want the PDP out yet mock every effort to make that happen even as they will never get involved themselves. They won't even register to vote!!!! They say they want more information yet when provided with that they quickly move on to other petty gripes without so much as a glance at the information they forcefully demanded yesterday. Nigeria and Nigerians. What a Country, what a people.

Mad Cow: (I guess this is number one.)diversify the country's economy and pursue the seven-point cardinal development initiative to;

1.provide qualitative education,

2.uninterrupted power supply,

3. full and gainful employment,

4.affordable local fuel,

5.healthcare

6.and food.

Did anybody notice that they didnt mention security?! Reason being that the chief Financier and strategist of the Boko Haram known as Buhari is in their midst. Also the Onye Isi ndi Kidnappers in the East known as Rochas Okorocha is also there. So there is no need to list security as one because when once they assume power, the criminals are automatically in government. #Period.
Bro, you don't like Buhari then fine. You should however be careful revealing that your dislike of the man is highly unreasonable and has compromised your sense of fairness to anything/anyone he is associated with. Firstly, the PDP is currently the main sponsor of Boko Haram and not Buhari. Indeed your failed C-in-C confessed that Boko Haram has infiltrated every level of his Government. Where does Buhari fit into that pathetic admission of innate weakness and impotence? Why do your sort never face those you should, closer to home, and prefer lying against others?

Secondly, the article shows clearly that you lied because security was mentioned but you either missed it or deliberately set out to deceive others here because you are one of those keen to tag Buhari with extremism when those you support are the biggest backers of terrorism or the biggest fakers whose inaction and weak leadership is allowing terrorism to proliferate in Nigeria.

As part of their proposed action plan, APC chieftains said the party would diversify the country's economy and pursue the seven-point cardinal development initiative to provide qualitative education, uninterrupted power supply, full and gainful employment, affordable local fuel, healthcare and food.

The party said it would also take definite steps to eradicate corruption and insecurity.

Who is behind Maina’s impunity?
THURSDAY, 21 FEBRUARY 2013 00:00 BUSINESSDAY

Last year, we extensively reported allegations of financial impropriety involving Abdulrasheed Maina, chairman, Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT). Our expectation then was that appropriate authorities ought to have taken the necessary actions.

On November 2, 2011, the Senate had mandated its Committees on Establishment and Public Service, and States and Local Government to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the management and administration of pension funds and payment of pensioners in the country. The upper legislative chamber had also summoned Maina to clarify on the committee’s findings, but he had refused to honour the invitation.

On December 13, 2012, following Maina’s refusal, David Mark, Senate president, issued a warrant of arrest directing Mohammed Abubakar, inspector general of police, to produce Maina before the Senate, but that was again not heeded.

Rather than honour the Senate invitation, Maina elected to be gallivanting all over the country. He was said to be cruising about in bullet-proof automobiles with a retinue of security details.

We are concerned that while pensioners are suffering and many of them are dying as a result of non-payment of their dues, someone accused of misappropriating the pension fund is walking free. We are also worried that despite the indictment of the KPMG audit report sponsored by the Federal Government and the audit report from the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation which also found Maina culpable, the Federal Government still allowed the man to junket about.

As is always the case with most questionable characters in government circles, Maina has been involved in recruiting praise-singers to confer legitimacy on his job. Last year, a group of federal lawmakers was said to have travelled abroad and there declared that Maina was the best thing to happen to the Nigerian pension sector.

But why has it been so difficult for the police to arrest Maina? We condemn in strong terms a situation where influential people in society declare themselves above the law and security agents apparently oblige them, whereas poor people are subjected to inhuman treatments for minor offences.

It must be pointed out that all citizens are equal before the law. We align with the views of the Senate president that “nobody in this country is bigger than our democracy”.

We are pained that the Federal Government waited until the Senate issued an ultimatum before mandating the head of service to take appropriate action against Maina. We are constrained to think that Maina is being shielded. If this is so, then it confirms the fears in some quarters that the fight against corruption in the country is yet to make headway

Chief Tom Ikimi

• Constitution, manifesto to be ready in two weeks

Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja and Aisha Wakaso in Minna

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unfolded a seven-point agenda upon which it plans to hinge its manifesto ahead of the 2015 general election.

The yet-to-be registered opposition coalition party said the committees on constitution and manifesto would, after due deliberations on the draft proposals, submit their reports not later than two weeks.

THISDAY learnt that the constitution drafting committee would be headed by Chief James Ocholi, while the manifesto committee is to be chaired by a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, who is now a stalwart of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

While rolling out the terms of reference at the formal inauguration of three subcommittees on constitution, manifesto and INEC-Legal and constitutional compliance, the ACN Merger Committee Chairman, Chief Tom Ikimi, said APC's target was to design a manifesto that would be distinct from those of other parties and which would address the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

He explained that part of APC's intention is to create strong party organs and safeguards that would ensure party supremacy while reflecting social democratic philosophy and ideals.

“Apart from defining clearly the philosophical/ ideological content of APC clearly distinguishing it from the other party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), you are to fully reflect on the social, economic and political situation in the country on the plight of the generality of our people, urban and rural alike, youth and women,” he said.

Ikimi said the constitution committee had been mandated to prepare a robust and defendable constitution that would stand the test of time and serve to deepen the nation's democracy.

According to him, the subcommittee is to identify sustainable revenue sources for the party and design an elaborate membership recruitment system that would ensure a credible membership record nationwide.

Members of the subcommittee included: Chief Niyi Adebayo, Chief Segun Osoba, Dr. Chris Ngige, Chief John Oyegun, Senator J. Akpan Udoedehe, Abdullaziz Yari Abubakar, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Alhaji Gambo Magaji and former Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa.

Ikimi said the subcommittee on the party's manifesto should give special attention to seven core areas of education, eradication of corruption, uninterrupted power supply, full and gainful employment, affordable local fuel price, healthcare, mass housing and agriculture.
He added that the subcommittee should go beyond mere semantics and state in clear terms how the party intends to integrate the youths and women in national development process.

Members of the manifesto subcommittee included: Ogbeh, Dr. Usman Bugaje, Chief Achike Udenwa, Mr. Osita Okechukwu and Prof. Tam David-West.

With regards to the mandate of the Subcommittee on Legal Matters and Registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ikimi said members of the committee were to examine all legal issues relating to the process of merger of political parties and provide guidelines on how parties in the merger talks could ensure full compliance with all relevant laws.

The subcommittee is to liaise with INEC and all other relevant agencies to ensure a smooth consummation of the merger.
Membership of the committee includes, Borno State Governor Kashim Ibrahim Shettima, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Admiral Lanre Amusu, Chief Solomon Edebiri, Ahmed Rufai Yerima, Mr. James Ocholi, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla and Chief Martin Agbaoso.
Meanwhile, Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has said that the formation of the APC will put the PDP on its toes and make the party to work hard towards winning the confidence of the people.

Aliyu said in Minna yesterday while inaugurating the reconstituted state executive council that he was happy with the merger because he was concerned with the growth of the country and the growth of democracy.

According to him, if there is no strong opposition, the PDP will take the people for granted, adding that when the PDP members know there is an alternative, they will adjust in the way they run the party.

“When one particular person is allowed to continue to do a particular thing, he will think he is everything but when he knows he has an option, he will adjust. I urge all PDP members to sit up and do well, if not, we will all be taken aback.

“We should not take the fact that we have been winning elections from 1999 till date for granted and if care is not taken, we will be surprised,” he said.

He challenged the PDP to go and work on how to compete for the minds, hearts and attention of the people and win back their confidence.
Six new commissioners, the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, Chief of Staff and his deputy and six special advisers were sworn in by Justice Amina Wambai who administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance on the new members of the council.

eggheaders: hmmmn..the presidential handlers are near perfect with there stream of lies.must y'all guy defend the Prexy by all means.
Nauseating but we should all realise that GEJ's press team is a reflection of his Presidency. What, for example, can be expected from Okupe who is a con man? Is it a coincidence that it is those totally lacking in conscience, like Omokri, who man the spin machinery of the GEJ government? We are simply witnessing what is expected for those who know and understand GEJ i.e a dishonest President surrounded by dishonesty.

We all know Jonathan pledged to serve one term to secure the help he needed at the time. No point belabouring that fact. These dishonest hacks should simply say nothing instead of trying to coerce other names into their fraudulent defence of conduct that exposes GEJ's lack of honour and moral uprightness.

skyfall: El-Rufai has simply lost it. He has shown in so many ways that he can't be trusted. A politician is pragmatic and always controls his emotions. I like him as a critic though. He can always put the govt of the day on its toes.
True. I was a fan of EL Rufai. Even the OP, Jarus, was the biggest fan of El Rufai on NL. It is instructive of EL Rufai's spectacular fall that many of us do not even mention him any more, as a prospect, in any capacity. To be honest, I wonder about the guy's sanity. When he said recently after Yar Adua had died "I fight my enemies to the death. Go and ask Yar adua", I thought this man is not fit for any public office whatsoever. He just confessed to hating others to a level that mean he will be unable to moderate his emotions even for the greater public good.

He has gone on to be controversial and divisive beyond belief. How can such a character be VP let alone President? Abeg, folks should move on from El Rufai.

PoliticsRe: Kidnappers Executed And Dumped In Ezu River by Gbawe: 5:49pm On Feb 20, 2013
This is very worrying if true. When prominent Nigerians state publicly that Nigeria is failing, expensively maintained liars like Abati, Okupe and Omokri are quick to come out with a rebuttal insinuating "we do not match the indices" of State failure. Yet I wonder what the summary execution of so many men indicate if not a breakdown of law and order that may be irretrievable in future. What is written below is highly troubling because anyone can fall victim to it. These are the sort of failings at the centre making Nigeria a dehumanised nation. This level of State-approved summary execution, if true, is simply a very dark omen.

Investigation revealed that most of the bodies belonged to suspected kidnappers arrested between October and November last year. And reluctant to follow the long route of prosecution, the state in connivance with the security decided to terminate the lives of these men

eGuerrilla: You are addressing folks who lack even the most rudimentary tools of analysis.
You are correct. They tend to be the most pugnaciously confrontational and rude as well. This is why poster who are actually a credit to this forum leave in the end. Has Fashola lied here for some to distractingly raise issues irrelevant to the main topic?
PoliticsRe: What Next For Fashola After 2015? by Gbawe: 5:13pm On Feb 20, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: Suddenly all the Fashola for president/vice president 'activists' have disappeared? So far no single post has defended that fantasy. It would appear these persons are miscreants and mischief makers after all
Guy, stop fooling yourself and desist from mischief. You don't have to fight everyone you perceive to be an opponent of GEJ. Folks like you, if sophisticated and liberal, should be praying the likes of Fashola, Akpabio, et al are the future of Nigerian politics instead of talking as if their non-involvement at a higher level is something to celebrate. If Fashola does not feature in an important office beyond 2015 then that is Nigeria's loss but you are too petty and feudal to understand the concept of Nigeria fielding her political best 11. Everthing is about your 'clique' for you.
PoliticsRe: What Next For Fashola After 2015? by Gbawe:
Jarus: Are president, VP, governor or senator the only political positions that make one relevant?
Thank you Jarus. Sometimes when I come here, I have to remind myself that there is a world out there totally different to the world we Nigerians portray on this forum!!!! Tony Blair was maxing out at £170,000.00 as Prime Minister. As one of the better prime ministers he is making upwards of £3-4 million per year, out of office, offering different services worldwide.

Some companies, because of the specialist knowledge and crisis management skills they know he has, pay him £400,000.00 per year to sit on a directors board and attend perhaps one AGM per year !!!

Yet, it is only Nigerians consumed with pettiness and frivolity, like the OP, who would suggest Fashola somehow loses out if he does not become President or VP in 2015. Why are we cursed to focus on individuals and never ideas in Nigeria? Fashola is a great man and those without issues, beyond Nigeria, will appreciate and reward that notion even if we obsessed with indulging our petty instincts and enmities in Nigeria. It is our collective loss if we make no place for Fashola in Nigerian leadership beyond his tenure. I remember telling folks Yar Adua will fail because he chose to freeze out the likes of Donald Duke rather than find ways to accommodate and use them to better Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: 2015 - Our Best 11? by Gbawe: 2:51pm On Feb 20, 2013
ilugunboy: Gbawe...you are very pragmatic with those comments.

It's absolutely not about who we like but who can get the job done.

Hummmmmm.....reflection.
My brother, folks should check the archives. There was no bigger fan of Ribadu here than myself and a few others. I even clashed with other die-hard Buhari fans like Gen-Buhari and Wadeoye on this forum. They will both confirm it here. Folks can say what they want and call me all manners of thing but no character, for me, is greater than the desire to see Nigeria make enduring progress I see others making with my two eyes.

What continues to keep Nigeria down is lack of political will from oga pata-pata since 1999. We have not had a single person totally dedicated to doing, without delay, what is best for ordinary Nigerians. OBJ was abysmal and a man who simply wanted to Putin-nize Nigeria creating a billionaire Oligarchic class he could continue to leverage on beyond office. He was obsessed with being as garishly rich as IBB. A worthless conman and failed diasporan in Andy Ubah, discharged bankrupt in the USA, came to Nigeria to become hideously rich because of OBJ. That was the "enrich-myself-and-minions-massively" ethos typifying OBJ's shallow and cynical leadership. Yar Adua was not much better even though he was nowhere near as malevolent and as morally bankrupt as OBJ. He just could not muster the political will to match a soul more decent than that of his predecessor. Nigeria loses again. GEJ continues the deliberate lack of will abetting the status quo. He is utra-corrupt and only supervising the looting of Nigeria by criminals, crooks, cronies and AGIPs.

Noteworthy that if we don't shun sentiments to see what matters then it will be a PDP win in 2015 and "more of the same" for all of us. WHat we have to understand is there exist a few who can display the sort of political will I expect Buhari to shine for. Yet how many , if me and you are being pragmatic, can be put forward to gain the votes that will defeat the PDP? Things remain very, very simple my brother

PDP will give us a gradualist 10 times out of 10. Said gradualist will be told he cannot 'mess with' the most vital things that can transform Nigeria drastically because those things keeps "awon boys" in food. PDP lays down the "don't go there" areas clearly. The brightest brains in the world have told us we can forget development if our recurrent expenditure remain as terribly high as it is at over 70%. Tell me which PDP President has made any serious effort to dismantle the structures, duplicated/superfluous offices, government largesse and system of patronage using 70% of our budget for affairs of governance?

The budget for running government is in single digit in many rich nation yet PDP presidents, one after the other, maintain an "off-limit" approach. Same with how Ribadu advised that we must stop, as the only major exporter doing so, from selling our crude through trader because this only abets monumental fraud against Nigeria. Why has GEJ not acted 4-5 months after this publicly delivered solution should have put him under pressure? Another "off-limit" area. Fuel subsidy nko? Otedola himself advised that all we needed to do to instantly kill the chain of scamming is for Nigeria to enter into direct arrangement with foreign refineries to immedediately defeat marketers robbing us blind. Yet everyone in the Government and past government pretend they are blind to that consideration because "awon boys must eat".

We could go on all day and I will show precisely that majority of our problem stems from how the political will is lacking to initiate the most transformational changes Nigeria need. This is why I am not into any pontifications about technocratic skills alone. We must gain a brave man with political will. A determined figther !!! In that sense, and specific to our needs for now, It is obvious those who can deliver what we want.

It is pointless hollowly mentioning those reknowned for technocratic brilliance only like the Aganga, Soludo, Iwealas of the World because A Nigerian President must be someone who can confront the cabal and not blink. Okonjo Iweala made so much noise while out of government about how our recurrent expenditure must come down. After being sworn in as Finance minister and defacto prime minister she displayed the same lack of mental toughness and strength afflicting 99% of our leaders by suggesting a ridiculous 1% reduction per year in recurrent expenditure.

Obviously, she has been told not to mess with the 'food' of "awon boyz". This is why I laugh when some ethnicise the Presidency to be saying only someone from their ethnic group will reform Nigeria. It makes me view Nigerians as very bigoted and unreasonable people because we have many direct examples proving this simplistic and offensive notion wrong. Even though OBJ was probably the biggest looter of all President from 1999 to date, did we not see him provide the requisite bravery to protect the Ribadus, Soludo , El Rufai, Ezekwesili, Okonjo Iweal et al to work? That is clue bravery and toughness is required nay vital . The only problem with OBJ was that he was not sincere and simply another materialistic looter robbing the nation blind underground. Now imagine we gain a brave President, brimming with political will, 100% on the side of Nigeria and is not interested in worldly riches for themselves or others under them? That would be the person capable of turning Nigeria round !!!

Yet sheer bigotry will not allow us to accept this. Some are suggesting their own kinsman blindly and rigidly while others are dogged in their non-transferable allegiance that prevents them seeing that, for example, Buhari is similar to Ribadu and issues ultimately boils down to who can deliver the vote to defeat the PDP.

I think I see what matter far more than anything else, i.e the progress of Nigeria, and this is why I could support Ribadu in 2011 and feel Buhari may be the better vote winner in 2015. Anyway, whoever the APC provide, I will back because , despite all the distracting noise, it is extremely foolish and self-deceptive for anyone to say that a Party full of some of the most talented leaders Nigeria has produced will not do better than the PDP. WHat that person must possess is political will and the total readiness to do what is best for Nigeria regardless of whose interest is retrenched.
PoliticsRe: 2015 - Our Best 11? by Gbawe: 12:58pm On Feb 20, 2013
skyfall: Firstly, I have to say I always respect your analyses and mature opinion. But don't you think Ribadu is more appealing to the north than Buhari is to the south? I also think it's easier to get the north to vote as a single block if Ribadu is pitted against Jonathan, better than what Buhari got in 2011. I campaigned a lot for Buhari in 2011 but I'm having my fears for his acceptability in the south (esp SE) in 2015. People vote based solely on ethnic/religious sentiments.

My wish is a Ribadu+Ezekwesili/Ngige/Okorocha candidacy. I think the north will sway in their favor if Buhari campaigns for them. El-Rufai & Oshiomole are moles (pun intended) as far as I am concerned & can't be trusted.
My guy, the problem tacticians must face is that the North still has many illiterate and clannish voters who will vote according to their mental affinity to a candidate. Tacticians have to accept and accommodate this reality. One thing many envisage are candidates to beat GEJ/Sambo alone yet we rule out the fact the PDP may go for a Northerner. Tacticians hve to prepare for all scenarios and If this happen the APC will calculate that Buhari will likely defeat any Northerner the PDP produces. Can the same be said of Ribadu? Has he built up the credibility Buhari has to defeat an Aliyu, Lamido or even Atiku flanked by a popular southerner like Amaechi? The APC candidates must be one strong enough to defeat any combo the PDP throws up.

Secondly, that Ribadu is a Northerner does not mean much electorally. The last election showed this. It may work if Buhari backs him and it may not. Some may get behind Ribadu at Buharis insistence and other may simply conclude if Buhari is not running then they would vote for a "proper" Northerner/Moslem. Some will prefer to vote a "proper" moslem, even if a crook, who makes more of an open show of flaunting his religion than Ribadu. Little known is that many in the North regard Ribadu as a Southerner because of how they perceive him to be too comfortable with southerners and a character who de-emphasises his religious leaning. How well did Ribadu even do in his home State of Adamama State for anyone to now consider him capable of sweeping the North even with Buhari behind him? The only State Ribadu won was Osun State in the SW. Go figure. The "Almajiris" who literally deify Buhari will be the hardest voting bloc, in Nigeria, to get on side for Ribadu. Whereas a popular Southern VP and hard work at grass root level may bridge the Buhari "unpopularity" gap in the South easier than certain Northerner who form a big voting bloc can be persuaded to vote Ribadu. Like I said earlier, I supported Ribadu in 2011 but I confronted some home truth after the election as someone who always tries, as much as possible, to deal dispassionately with what is feasible and likely.

Nothing is set in stone and I am not saying I am right or that anyone should accept my opinion. Truth be told, I still prefer a Ribadu Presidency. I was glad for Ghana when the 54 year old Dramani defeated the 68 old year old Akuffo Addo because I think there is a potent argument for youthful vigour. Yet our situation is very different and dire because a 2015 loss means 4 more years of the sort of hideous gradualism being eschewed everywhere in the World.

Look through the archives to know that Jarus conducted a Nairaland "campaign" debate here in 2011 where I represented Ribadu and Beaf represented GEJ. Nonetheless, I now accept that issues are more about hard work, the scientific/statistical/pragmatic aspect of things and uniting the best pair that can defeat the PDP. It is not just about the candidates me and you would like to see. Were that the case, then Ribadu would again be my first choice as was the case in 2011.
PoliticsRe: 2015 - Our Best 11? by Gbawe:
Well said.

Insanity is doing thesame over and over and be expecting different results. Insanity is for Buhari to be contesting over and over and be expecting to win. Like I earlier said, it is practically impossible for Buhari to win presidential election in modern day Nigeria. The plausibility is for the election to go into second round and that's it.

WHY CAN'T BUHARI BURY HIS SELFISHNESS AND SUPPORT ANOTHER CREDIBLE, YOUNGER AND VIBRANT CANDIDATE ?
Look, it is not "selfishness" patriotically believing you have something to offer your Nation. Atta-Mills, like Buhari, competed twice (2000 and 2004) before winning at the third go in 2008. You must accept that most Nigerian voters will not be like you and most of us here - especially in the North. They will be sentimental and highly biased. Please understand that I don't discount your opinion about 'fresh blood' which is a good one.

In fact, I showed here that I agreed with you in the past by supporting Ribadu in 2010-2011 here. After that election and three years on, it is obvious it may be very hard and unproductive work honing Ribadu, EL Rufai or similar into potential winners in the North. I will try and find this article for you that will make you see what I confronted after the elections. Ribadu is even considered more a Southerner in the North than anything else. He is viewd with skepticism by a region that still has many, many clannish illiterate than our own learned Ndu Chucks. That is the pragmatic truth all of us who want the PDP gone must face.

Go back to the 2011 to note the vote candidates won and let us talk, purely on vote winning, whether Ribadu can bridge the gap in 2015. I once backed Ribadu but I would back a more balanced ticket today that can oust the PDP because I would rather have a Buhari Presidency safe in the knowledge it will surely accommodate the Fasholas, Ribadus, Ezekwesilis, Oshiomhole, Falana et al than gamble on Ribadu and the APC lose at the centre so Nigeria faces another 4 years of gradualists like GEJ, Sambo David Mark et al. Reality must counter idealism in the 2015 project. Lessons must be learnt from the 2011 PDP win.

Jarus , the starter of this thread, will tell you no one spoke more passionately in favour of Ribadu here than me and one other chap called Doja in 2010-2011. Yet I would not tout Ribadu today ahead of Buhari because I am trying to work with the science of things. They keep saying Buhari is unelectable in the South. Rubbish in my opinion. Plenty of time to eschew laziness and mobilise support for him to negate his dour perception. Also whether we like it or not, ethnicity and sentiments will play a part. There would still be many who would ignore their dislike of Buhari and vote for his popular, well-liked Southern VP because that VP has a bright chance of taking over from Buhari. I don't bother about those things but the same cannot be said of average Nigerias.

Personally, I just want a President who will not be averse to what Nigeria genuinely needs for transformation i.e square pegs in square holes. In that respect it could be Buhari, Ribadu or even anyone else but we still have to deal with the science and statistics that show who/what can defeat the PDP. I am merely giving my own opinion and not telling anyone to accept it. At the end of the day, those of us who want the PDP gone will still do our best for the candidates the APC settle on.

Genius100: I see your point. Certainly, if Buhari runs as president, he absolutely must have a christian VP. My choice is Ezekwesili. I can't think of any other credible christian politician. Okonjo-Iweala would have been nice, but I don't see her resigning from GEJ's administration to run against PDP. Fashola can be made a minister of a strategically important ministry

To be honest, there are many times I ask myself what I am doing here to be having people lie against me openly and insist I have to hate them or that I have ulterior motivation for talking. Another clown, a known bigot here, after I had posted, suggested all our support for Fashola is to "sneak in" in Yoruba VP so we could have a route back to the Presidency. Simply laughable considering a normal person would realise that, even beyond Nigeria, many would not mind Fashola in a great national position because of his pedigree as a proven leader. Even my non-Nigerian West-African friends who follow Nigerian politics, and know our Nation, say the same. Yet come on here to find the only haters of the man are hardened bigots who simply cannot see good in others because of ethnicity.

In life, I don't have a single bigoted friend or associate with liars, mischief-makers, paranoid delsusional hacks or anyone of extreme, malevolent opinion towards others because that is my own deliberate free choice.

It is regrettable coming here to associate with such people , merely because one wants a better nation, and I am certainly growing tired of the children here.
