saintgp:The story is total fabrication. OP provides no credible source and nowhere online is this corroborated. Also the OP spells Southampton wrong. That is a dead giveaway. LieDetector: |
Stolen:The NCA is a serious and organised crime unit. They have no time or mandate to deal with bribery and the opportunistic looting Allison-Madueke is allegedly involved with. They will therefore diplomatically deny any knowledge, either way, of whether Madueke has been arrested by the Metropolitan police for crime they were not set up to investigate. That is how it is in a nation where security forces are professional and understand their roles and limitations in relation to other security forces. This is not Nigeria where Ogah (DSS) will unprofessionally overstep her mark to say bombs go off after APC lose an election. The NCA will always give the response they did because they cannot and should not begin commenting on the work/arrest of the Metropolitan Police. |
dialfa:You should too. The UK is not Nigeria. The arrest was allegedly carried out by the Metropolitan Police. They are the ones who can confirm or deny the arrest of Allison-Madueke and not the National Crime Agency. As organised as the UK is, Surrey police cannot even confirm or deny any purported arrest carried out by the Metropolitan police let alone an umbrella and specialised force not in direct supervision of the British police force. The NCA deals with serious and organised crime and I don't know when it has become a spokesperson for the Met police over bribery cases. What next? Ask the MI5 whether Allison-Madueke is in custody or not? http://www.nationalcrimeagency.gov.uk/ About the NCA |
new2020:You tribalistic posters should continue deceiving yourselves and blaming everything that happens to people from your tribal enclave on Yoruba people and Tinubu. It is what you do and you look thoroughly stupid and backward doing it. The same Reuters has gone on to admit, via an article dated Fri Oct 2, 2015 8:14pm, which is latter than the original article OP featured that denied any arrest, that Allison-Madueke was arrested in London. Forumers, do not be deceived by these ethnocentric charlatans. You revolting bigots should be ashamed of yourselves, your shameless defence of criminality and your self-loathing which leads you to first look at others for everything that happens to you and anyone linked to you by ethnicity. http://uk.reuters.com/article/2015/10/02/uk-nigeria-oil-arrest-idUKKCN0RW21820151002 Top News | Fri Oct 2, 2015 8:14pm BST Related: UK, AFRICA |
GboyegaD:Indeed. It helps as well than she is not an arrogant, garrulous, power-drunk and attention-seeking wife like Patience Jonathan. Hopefully dignity will now be restored to the unofficial position of first Lady and Aisha Buhari will set a good precedence for how First ladies should behave post the Buhari Presidency. |
@OP. Good message and perception. Sadly, a lot of what we are facing is to do with evolutionary development. My take is that Nigerians are not as emotionally evolved as others are worldwide. We are as educated as others but not as emotionally mature as they are. Being educated to a high level does not mean you are optimally evolved. When you have Nigerian Professors still peddling prejudice against others, on account of their ethnicity, then you know we have a long way to go before we see and accept what matters most in life. What matters the most in life is for every man, woman and child, wherever they are from, to have as happy and fulfilled a life as possible. When we get this simple notion then Nigeria will make progress. If we continue to think exclusively of the happiness and progress of our own ethnic group/community/religion and sectional group alone then we will continue to have problems as a nation. |
gassdon:The point is that it is not factually incorrect for anyone to say Onu is from Abia State especially because Abia State, which Onu led, still exists today. You see my point now? |
gassdon:Onu was the first executive governor of Abia State so how can you claim factually he is not from Abia State? So Aregbesola, despite leading Osun, is from Oyo State (Osun State was carved out of Oyo state) and not Osun? Does this make sense to you? Onu is from Abia and that is why he led the State as a Governor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogbonnaya_Onu Ogbonnaya Onu (born 1 December 1951) was the first Executive Governor of Abia State, Nigeria from February 1992 to December 1993.[1] He was the National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).,[2] until its amalgamation with other Nigerian opposition parties in February 2013 resulted in the creation of the All Progressives Congress. |
TIMEISWISDOM:That is nothing but a well-managed scam. Me and you know the GEJ government specialised in scams and deceit. "Economic growth" is a scam if the people have no tangible improvement in standards of living to bear out that claim. GEJ did so badly that Nigeria is now in a man-made recession the new government must now reverse in a period of very low oil prices, heightened institutional decay and moribund infrastructure. Please , for the sake of production discussion, let us refrain from talking about the 'economic growth' under GEJ we all now know is a big scam. Ali Baba (GEJ) and his forty thieves (Allison-Madueke et al) spent five years looting Nigeria while lying about "economic growth" and "socio-economic buoyancy". GEJ is a big fraudster. |
adeka005:Aganga, Okonjo Iweala and Allison-Madueke could be classed as 'technocrats' yet what did they achieve for GEJ? What Buhari needs is fearless and intelligent achievers who will help him deliver the reforms needed to turn Nigeria around. The whole focus on technocrats is the usual self-deceit Nigerians bamboozle themselves with. In the days of Abacha, IBB and OBJ we convinced ourselves we needed a President educated to a high level because "leadership illiteracy" was our problem. Yet GEJ, the most educated Nigerian President ever with a PHD, turned out to be the most corrupt, most immoral and most incompetent President nigeria has ever known. It is time Nigerians learn to accept that it is a unique blend of education, ability and personal qualities that makes a great and effective leader. An illiterate could be a great leader if he has an uncompromising sense of ensuring society is equitable for all who live in it whereas a PHD holder, eg GEJ, could be a horrid leader if he believes in nothing and does not accept or recognise his responsibility and duty of care to those he leads. |
luvmijeje:My dear, forget the haters. For all the detracting noise I personally felt Fashola was always going to be a Minister under a President who respects and admires him. Buhari needs Fashola and people should not get this twisted. All that is left is for Fashola to get the right portfolio (power or works/infrastructure) and the entire world will see the unlimited talent of the former Lagos governor. Fashola will undoubtedly deliver sterling performance wherever he is is deployed but I want him to be placed in charge of a critical sector. Amaechi and Fayemi will do well too. Amaechi is tough and resolute. He will always lead well and without compromise against vested interest. Fayemi is a solutions provider and not a politician even as Tinubu tried to make him one. I think Fayemi's talent will now be visible for all to see in a ministerial role and with a supportive President behind him. |
I think sensible folks appreciate the prejudice that motivated this thread. Personally I don't approve of the choice of Oyinlola as a minister and I don't think he will become one but Fayemi and Fashola will be Ministers and I can bet they will be exemplary ministers who will deliver and be solid 'anchors' of the Buhari Presidency. I would love fashola to get power or works/infrastructure. Anyone who does not like that some Yoruba politicians will become ministers , for whatever reason, will have to live with their own personal frustration. This is what politics is about. I.e deploy the right strategy, win elections and select your own team. Losers, especially those who backed GEJ clannishly, have no say here. This is the sad reality of politics and people would get this if they don't view every single thing sentimentally. |
emmatok:Nonsense. Soludo dabbled in politics but that does not invalidate the fact he remains a brilliant and accomplished technocrat by every definition of the word. I don't agree with everything he does but I will never deny others due credit because of sentiments or bias. You do know Soludo is an economics professor who has extensive experience of service delivery to his name? If such a man is not a technocrat, simply because he got involved in politics, then who is? Sentiments, driven by innate bias, is the bane of productive discussion on Nairaland. |
Dhugal:Why don't you back your opinion with verifiable links and statistics? Whether true or false, at least I have supplied a verifiable link to my opinion whereas all you can do is dispute what I have said without any attempt whatsoever to corroborate your own utterances/position. Whatever you are saying, prove it and convince us you are right. |
tonychristopher:Bruv, I am not sentimental and never come here to peddle emotional argument I cannot defend. Let us put the pedantism aside. Lagos, according to the best analysts and "technocrats" in the world, is the most financially independent state in Nigeria. Anambra is not financially independent and could not self-finance itself, as Lagos can, without FG allocation. This is the truth and, as educated men, we don't have to let pride or ego blind us to this statistical truth. Yet I agree Anambra is one of the most economically viable State in Nigeria. You made some good point especially related to how you identified that "our people are in government" has not done anything for Nigerians. It is time we start looking at the competence of public servants/leaders and not their ethnicity. Yet if you deal with facts you will accept that Lagos is by far the most financially independent State in Nigeria and Fashola contributed the technocratic expertise towards this achievement. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babatunde_Fowler With this re-engineering, the new Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue (As it is now referred to) has achieved the following within 8 years between 2006 and 2013 :A sharp increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from an average of N 3.6 Billion per month in January 2006 to an average of over N20.5 Billion per month in 2014,[7] improved quality of service delivery to taxpayers, improvement in the use of IT and other modern methods of tax administration, an unprecedented enlightenment campaign on tax administration and education in Africa. These reforms have made Lagos State the only State in the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is financially independent of the monthly financial allocation of revenue from the Federation Account and also the only State that generates internally more revenue than the monthly allocation from the Federation Account.[8] The State is presently able to meet to a considerable degree, the enormous demands for infrastructure and services from the exploding population presently put at over 20 million |
dammytosh:They just come here to spew thrash daily without even thinking of how ludicrous and stupid they sound. They don't deal with facts either and prefer schizophrenic idiocy to back their parochial and prejudiced mindset. The Op ignorantly announces that "the south west - the only zone that survives on government money" yet how many times must these ignorant bigots be reminded that the SW is factually the most independent and economically viable region in Nigeria? This is a fact supported by official figures and statistics. In fact this is what makes me appreciate the level of hate some have for others that is very unhealthy for Nigeria. Why are some prone to denying the truth because of primordial hatred of others? they will say the SW is "parasitic" and "dependent on Government" while "contributing nothing to Nigeria" but the fact, for those who work with facts and not sentimental bigots who enjoy lying to themselves, is that the SW is the best nation-state region that "will be one of the fastest growing economies in the world" if Nigeria split. As they say, the worst lies are the ones you tell to yourself. Let some continue to think the worst for Yoruba land while real figures and statistics continue to show the region is the most financially and socio-economically viable in Nigeria. From the article below, how can any sane mind proclaim that the SW is the "only" zone that depend on government money? This is why I worry deeply for some people. It is obvious the indoctrination that has poisoned their reasoning is so powerful they do not even recognise statistical facts and on-the-ground realities any longer. http://www.gamji.com/article6000/NEWS7879.htm Nigeria: One Country Four Economies Discussion Points |
FreeGlobe:I don't care how you and others view me. Only failures and insecure folks will come here looking for e-relevance, e-love and e-respect that does not pay ones mortgage/rent or fuel ones car. This is what you and others do here daily. I.e once defeated by fact and superior logic you resort to insults and character assassination. The fact is that OP goofed because he is a bigot and you supported him blindly because you are prejudiced also. The Yoruba names he mentioned are names of technocrats. No doubt about that for anyone who knows who a technocrat is. You can append the word "corrupt" to Fashola's name all you want but it is only an anti-Yoruba biogt who will not admit the man is one of the finest technocrats in Nigeria. You think making Lagos virtually the only financially independent state in Nigeria, and one that would be one of the largest economy in Africa if an independent Nation, is not indicative of a very high level of technocratic ability? I really pity you and others because it is obvious prejudice and a parochial mindset will prevent you from achieving much in your daily lives. Fashola and Fayemi will be excellent and deserving Ministers who will serve Nigeria well and help Buhari succeed same as their Igbo Ministerial compatriots. You should try to see Nigeria for once and stop your ethnocentric proclivity that has obviously warped your thinking. |
FreeGlobe:I am not interested in any back and forth with a hardened bigot like you. All I will say is that you should first understand completely what a technocrat is and then look into the educational background and professional training/achievement and wealth of experience of these guys. You people are never ashamed to come here daily and obstinately discuss inanities and nonsensical points merely because primordial prejudice leaves you unable to accept let alone say the truth about others. |
BALLOSKI:Bro, the thread is just the usual tribalistic rants of insecure posters who must wake up, as the start to their day, to proclaim their ethnic group better than others. Silly thread from an OP who understands and loves prejudice yet does not know who/what a technocrat is. Next will be for him to say all Yoruba ministerial nominees are paedophiles while all Igbo nominees are ordained saints. I just don't get how some do not appreciate that the way they think is unproductive and backward. |
As usual, Nigerians and their bigoted/sentimental approach to issues. The point is that OP got it wrong. Fayemi, Fashola and even Oyinlola fully qualify to be called 'technocrats' by virtue of their education and professional achievement/training. OP started this thread to disenfranchise and disparage Yoruba ministerial nominees while positioning the nominees from his ethnic group as meritoriously 'deserving'. Predictably, his kinsmens/women, who should point out his erroneous and prejudiced thinking, have joined to support his sentimental and bigoted approach to issues when it is clear this thread is a non-starter since, factually, all the Yoruba politicians OP mentioned are actually technocrats by any definition of the word. This is just the usual inferiority complex-led rants of insecure and petty malcontents. People do not stop being technocrats because they have become politicians. Otherwise the so-called Igbo technocrats he praises would stop being technocrats after gaining political positions. The OP would appreciate this if he is not another anti-Yoruba bigot Nairaland parades by the thousands. Useless thread. |
BALLOSKI:Indeed. Simple logic. Politicians had substantive professions before political office. Politics actually even deepens the technocratic finesse of effective and competent politicians. |
@OP. You do not appear to know what a technocrat is so it is pointless even responding seriously to your post. Fashola, for example, can be described as one of the finest technocrats in Nigeria today. It is only someone who knows what a technocrat is who would appreciate this. |
I back this move 150%. Reforming comatose institutions that have been decimated by corruption, incompetence, cronyism and decay means that certain positions/tasks cannot be delegate and must be handled by the very person who believes in the need for reform above all else. In short Buhari must handle, reform and reposition this very important make-or-break sector himself if his Presidency is to succeed. |

nnachukz:You are either being revisionist or plain dishonest. Did the APC tell you that no corrupt politician is allowed to join the Party? Did the APC ever tell you it was going to be a Party of saints and angels alone? The leaders of the APC (i.e the likes of Buhari, Tinubu, Oyegun et al) have stated many times that they will not discriminate against anyone who wishes to join the APC. The pertinent proviso is that wherever you are coming from, and whatever your past record, you must reform and do things the APC way. This was the redemption 'second chance' accorded to Saraki and many other PDP decampees. No one told you the APC does not know that the likes of Saraki are corrupt. the slate was wiped clean ala "go and sin no more". The APC, because it has the finest brains in Nigeria in its ranks, simply chose the path of reconciliation because the Party knows that good governance will not be delivered if you are fighting every political wrongdoer. APC put it out there loudly that everybody is forgiven as long as they behave the APC way after May 2015. Saraki disrespected this simple demand, because he thought it was still 'business as usual', and he should suffer the consequence for his misconduct. So please Mr.OP don't come here to be telling lies. I can show you several articles where the APC said they will not discriminate against even those who have harmed and looted Nigeria as long as those folks are ready to change their ways and join the effort to move Nigeria forward. Buhari and the APC granted a moratorium for our corrupt elite. The message was "reform, join us and help us develop Nigeria or face the consequences of refusing to do so". Let Saraki face the consequences of his refusal to appreciate that this is no longer the Nigeria led by the impunity-loving PDP. |
IYANGBALI:Of course not. PDP cannot sniff that seat. APC is ready for them. They simply did not expect or anticipate the treachery of Saraki and this is why he became senate president in the first place. The APC will have covered all eventualities this time around. The APC want a senate President who will be loyal to the Party and will assist Buhari to be effective. That is what they want and that is what they will get. |
mecks15:Another smart dude. Of course the APC has already mapped out their strategy before going down this road. They have planned properly and will move swiftly if rebels, either from the APC or PDP, try anything. I keep telling folks Saraki is not smart. He is only treacherous and conniving. He has shown is hand of treachery too early and is now finished politically in my opinion. The real smart guys will now deal with him and others who want to be disruptive troublemakers. |
@OP. I doubt shameless, unprincipled and desperate Saraki will be stepping down and I personally would prefer he be found guilty and punished to send out a powerful message that the PMB government will not be 'more of the same' or 'business as usual'. |
@OP. Coming from you who wanted GEJ to carry on in power? I will take my chances with Buhari. Thank you for your concern but don't worry for Nigerians as I am sure their lives will get much better under Buhari in comparison to what they had to put up with under your thoroughly discredited messiah i.e GEJ. |
igbsam:He will never do that. The dude sadly has no honour or shame for that matter. He promised to deactivate his moniker if Buhari won in a certain Nigerian state. Buhari went on to win that state comfortably and Pa Chukwudi is still here posting under his original user name. What does that tell you about the guy? Bros, forget ojare. Pa Chukwudi may have his fault but he is actually one of the 'colourful' characters here and I personally enjoy his inputs here even if they are laced with sentiments and 'abobaku' desperation rather than logic and reality. |
PentiumPro:This is what I have pointed out continuously to sentimental folks like Pa chuckwudi and others. They will mention Tambuwal and all other manner of nonsense without realising that the PDP, in 16 years of leading Nigeria, produced the leaders of the upper and lower house always. You are one of the few who appear to have gotten the 'koko' of the matter. Buhari is rightly correct to be mad at how Saraki allowed an aberration that has never been witnessed in Nigerian politics all because of personal selfishness and indiscipline. I.e the emergence of an opposition deputy Senate president when the ruling Party has the clear majority to produce both leaders of the upper house. It is madness that must be punished with the political humbling of Saraki. |
Ramnon2:Go and check their respective CV and report back to me. How does Fayemi losing an election to Fayose detracts from the man's academic brilliance and achievements when we all know the Nigerian electorate is not the sophisticated in the world? is it not the same nation that ignored GEJ's awful leadership record to vote for his legendary 'goodluck' and "boy with no shoes" ruse? I think you need to be a bit more flexible in your thinking. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kayode_Fayemi Academic and political initiatives[edit] |
