As at DV 2013,Nigeria had sent more than 50 000 immigrants to the US,but Nigeria still participated in the program and still continues to be eligible.The reason is that that number includes ONLY those who migrated via the family-based categories(ie relatives of US CITIZENS,and employment -based categories).It does not include other categories such as refugees,asylum seekers,NACARA beneficiaries or previous DV immigrants.That is the deciding factor.If that number had included those categories,Nigeria would have been barred even from the DV 2013.that explains it all

Legitimacy is crucial bro.The State Department has an unwritten rule known as the 30/60 day rule.If you wanna legitimise your stay,be sure not to contravene it.What the rule means that if you intend to change your status from tourist to student ,or any other status,you musnt do so within 30/60 days ,because that would serve as an indictment.You dont want the DHS to suspect foul play.So,your best bet might be switching your status to a student,or make efforts to get married(after 30/60 days).That ,I reckon,is the best way to legalise your stay,helping you to stay legitimate.Ruminate on these.

it does appear you have a good job,and also married.Both are good ties,but the only minus is the fact that you have not travelled before.Some cos consider this a priority ,while others do not.However,the positives appear to outweigh the negative in your case,meaning you ve got a fighting chance.Just attend the interview with an open mind,exhibit supreme confidence,and hope for some luck,as it does play a part.You may also wanna take any property and financial docs you ve got along.The officer may demand to see them or not.Best wishes

bigfrancis21: My brother take all the advice given here seriously. The US is not a bed of roses if you're an illegal immigrant. You can't WORK legally if you have a tourist visa. Don't be tempted to go to the US only to go there and suffer. Its not worth it at all.

I'm a full supporter of people following their dreams and if you do really want to go to the US and live there legally, now take these legal paths of advice:

1) After you get to the US, start applying to a community college to study a related program to IT/computer science. I say community college because its much cheaper and takes less time (2yrs) to complete. You can apply to a university if you have the money. Community colleges award associate bachelor degrees and universities full bachelor degrees. Before you leave for the US, be sure to leave with your transcripts, academic credentials, and enough money to sustain your living expenses and your academic expenses. If you get admission you then apply to the appropriate US agency to permit you to study. Once it pulls through then you can begin your study. After study, hunt for a job and have your employer file on your behalf a work visa (H1B), and after you start working you can begin your green card application process. This may take you some years, at least 5 years, to achieve. Its not going to be too easy just as it is not easy anywhere but if you PERSEVERE you'll make it. Through this means you're well on your way to live the american dream.

2) You may as well find love there, get married and set your papers straight.

3) If the DV lottery doesn't finally get scrapped, you can play the lottery this year, by october.

Ok,Fill in your total annual income in the DS 160 FORM.Explain if asked.The CO might have riled by a disgruntled interviwee,before you appeared for yours,but they are not normally "unfriendly".They are some of the State Departments finest,So,do not opinionate yourself on that.Next time you appear for an interview,maintain a calm disposition,and dont appear desperate for a visa.Hope for some Luck as well.

At the moment,Nigeria is still eligible for the next program.The only change in the 2015 program is that Guatemala becomes eligible again.Bangladesh ,Brazil,Canada,China(mainland only),Colombia,Dominican Republic,Ecuador,El salvador ,Haiti,India,Jamaica,Mexico,Pakistan,Peru,Phillipines,South Korea,UK(except northern Ireland),Vietnam,are ineligible.The state Department should confirm this when they release the Guidelines.

You can re apply anytime.But you are better off re applying when your circumstances change.,If one re applies,without rectifyin the situation that led to the first denial,he/she might be denied again,even by another CO.In your situation,I reckon the CO was not convinced about your job/financial situation, having checked your documents.You would do well to improve on that before re applying.Ditto for your travel experience.You dont wanna keep frittering away your hard earned 160,you know

Folks like you make it difficult for genuine US tourist visa applicants to secure American tourist visas.Did you tell the CO you intended to work with a visit visa?A US visit visa thread exists on this section,and you cannot claim to be oblivious of the fact that one cannot work with a visit visa.

Op,it does appear that you are confusing the validity of your visa with the duration of stay.I reckon you posess a 2 year Multiple entry visit visa.Thus,you can only be granted a six month stay by the CBP.It could be extended though.Its also illegal to work with a tourist visa.You might just be fiddling with a ban

You may.And you would do well to indicate your bussiness,whether its registered or not.You must take all documents that support your application along.But CO'S dont normally rely on them.Its your actual performance at the interview that counts.So,be sure to wow him/her with a terrific display.X

There are several categories of non-immigrant visas.,H,J,K,F,I,L,M....,and most are sub-divided.egF-1 is for academic and language students.H-1B Is for specialty occupations requiring highly specialized knowledge,K-1 for foreign military personnel etc

For instance, if u win and ur case number falls between AF0000001 to AF0019000, then be expecting an invitation from Kentucky after u must have sent your application forms to them. In most case interviews are not sent to winners wit case numbers above 20,000. For me i won it before wit a case a number above 21,000. I wasn't sent an invitation letter because they din't get to my case before the fiscal year ended. Well this time around, I pray I win wit a case number not above 1,000. Good luck everyone.

Each fiscal year is different.In a particular year,ithe visa bulletin might move at lightening speed,while it moves at snail speed in another .So in the former,an individual with a case number above Af0000020*** could actually appear for an interview.Essentially,in a fiscal year,the Dv program ends when the 3,500 visas for a particular country have been exhausted,in accordance with the DV LAW which states that no country shall be allocated more than 7% of diversity visas.Countries with high entrants Like Nigeria,Egyp,and Ghana may exhaust their own quota before the end of a fiscal year though.
