RomanceShameless! Mother Marries Her Own Son After Getting Pregnant For Him by gbolakpine(op): 1:19pm On Feb 16, 2016
Strange things don't just seize to happen everyday. A mother and son have decided to tie the knot in matrimony causing uproar in the community. The mother, Betty Mbereko is set to marry her son saying no other woman is entitled to sleep with him. Mrs Mbereko, who is now six months pregnant and expecting her son’s child, and her grandchild had been a widow for the past 12 years and has been living with her 23-years-old son Farai Mbereko.

She confirms that she is six month pregnant and that she has decided it is better to “marry” her son
because she does not want to marry her late husband’s young brothers, whom she says are coveting her.

Betty stunned a village court in Zimbabwe last week when she said the affair with her son had begun three years earlier, according to Zimbabwe Today.
She said after spending a lot of money sending Farai to school following the death of her husband, she felt she had a right to his money and no other woman is entitled to it.

“Look, I strove alone to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong. Let me enjoy the products of my sweat,” she told the village court council.

Her son, Farai Mbereko, said he was more than prepared to marry his mother and would pay off the ilobola balance (assumably bride price) his father had left unpaid to his grandparents.

In a swift reaction, an elder Nathan Muputirwa says: “We cannot allow this to happen in our village, mashura chaiwo aya, (this is a bad omen indeed)”.

CrimeWoman Allegedly Vomits, Excretes 80 Wraps Of Cocaine At Abuja Airport by gbolakpine(op): 6:11pm On Feb 12, 2016
A 48 year-old woman caused a mild drama at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after she allegedly vomitted 15 wraps of white, powdery substances that tested positive for cocaine.
Saidat Hassan, a mother of three,‎ was arrested at the central screening section of the departure hall during the screening of passengers on an Egypt Airline flight to Jedda, Saudi Arabia, en-route Cairo.
She was immediately apprehended by officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) who discovered that she had ingested 80 wraps of cocaine weighing 904 grammes, the agency said in a statement on Friday.

Hamisu Lawan, the NDLEA Abuja airport commander said efforts were made to protect her from any harm resulting from drug ingestion.
“As soon as we discovered that the suspected wraps she vomited tested positive for cocaine, we took measures to ensure her safety by preventing any harm that may result from drug ingestion,” said Mr. Lawan.
“While under observation, she excreted sixty-five similar wraps. In all, she ingested 80 wraps of cocaine weighing 904 grammes; her case is under investigation.”
Mohammad Abdallah, the‎ NDLEA Chairman, who expressed satisfaction with her arrest said her action negates every principle of good parenting.

“This is gross ineptitude on the part of a mother saddled with the responsibility of nurturing her children into future leaders,” said Mr. Abdallah, a retired colonel.
“I am glad that she did not die from drug ingestion and she is alive to face trial. Besides escaping the risk of swallowing cocaine, this arrest also saved her because drug trafficking in Saudi Arabia is punishable by death.
“She will soon be charged to court because the law must run its full course. I expect the general public to learn lessons from this case that drug trafficking leads to pain, ignominy and untimely death.”
The NDLEA boss said his approach to drug control is both pragmatic and scientific.
“Every action taken must be based on best global principles while lessons learnt will influence our implementation strategies in our day to day operations,” he said.
“The Agency will continue to sensitize members of the public by presenting facts and figures of drug trafficking as well as the larger picture of its ruin and devastation.”
Mrs. Hassan, a native of Idiroko, Ogun State who resides in Lagos Island claimed to be a business woman dealing in clothing materials.
“I am a business woman and I sell women clothes at Balogun market,” she said in her statement to the NDLEA.
“I used to buy my goods from Ghana. I was introduced into the drug business by a friend and business partner. The drug was brought from Abidjan, Ivory Coast and we were to share the proceeds equally.
“Until my arrest, I never knew that the cocaine I ingested would have led to my death in Saudi Arabia. I thank God for keeping me alive.”
A female drug trafficker, Ifeoma Daniel Joy, a native of Ukwa in Ukwa Local Government Area of Abia State, who vomited wraps of cocaine at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Ikeja, Lagos later died as a result of cocaine bust in 2007.
Ms. Joy, 29, was said to have died after one of the wraps of drugs she ingested burst while preparing to board an Ethiopian airline heading for Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
She had ingested 79 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine with a weight of 1.32 kilogrammes.

TravelNot Less Than Eight Die In Jigawa Boat Accident by gbolakpine(op): 3:00pm On Feb 11, 2016
At least eight people drowned in northern Nigeria when a canoe ferrying traders capsized and panicked passengers in another boat jumped into the river, a government official said Thursday. The first canoe was carrying traders to a local market in Jahun district of Jigawa state when it tipped over after hitting an obstacle in the water, said the local government chairman, Ibrahim Mu’azu.

He said the accident frightened passengers in another canoe trailing behind who jumped into the river to escape possible capsize. “So far eight dead bodies were pulled out of the river while another eight were rescued by local divers,” Mu’azu told AFP of the accident which happened on Wednesday.

“(The) search for more bodies is on because we don’t have an exact number of people in the two canoes and the general feeling is that more bodies are still in the river,” he added.

Boat accidents are common in waterfront communities in Nigeria due largely to lack of safety standards and poor maintenance of boats. Last month, seven people died when a passenger boat capsized after hitting an object in the port city of Lagos in the southwest.

CrimeMumbai Police Force-feed Thief Dozens Of Bananas To Retrieve A Stolen Gold Chain by gbolakpine(op): 9:54am On Jan 11, 2016
Indian police successfully deployed an unusual technique to retrieve a gold chain that a thief had swallowed while officers were in hot pursuit, they force-fed him more than 40 bananas.
The man denied snatching the chain from a woman in the street in Mumbai and swallowed it in a desperate bid to conceal his crime last week, but hospital X-rays suggested otherwise.
Police in the western Indian city administered an enema which failed to yield the desired result.
Doctors said an operation would be the best way forward, but police officers decided it would be too expensive and opted instead for the bananas.

“He was fed more than 40 bananas throughout the day,” Mumbai police Senior Inspector Shankar Dhanavade told AFP.

“Eventually the chain was found. We made him wash and disinfect it,” the policeman added.
The 25-year-old man appeared in court on Friday and is in police custody, said Dhanavade.
According to reports, it was not the first time Mumbai police had turned to the fruit in order to recover a stolen item.

In July last year a chain was retrieved after a thief was made to eat two dozen bananas and drink several litres of milk laced with laxatives, the Hindustan Times reported.
Months earlier in April, a thief was fed five dozen bananas after swallowing a gold chain with a large pendant.
The thief successfully excreted the loot. But the disgusted victim refused to touch it and instead took it to a jeweller in a plastic bag, the newspaper said.

SportsYaya Toure Explains His Disappointment For Not Winning The African Player Award by gbolakpine(op): 1:01pm On Jan 08, 2016
Ivory Coast captain and Manchester City star, Yaya Toure has expressed his disappointment after narrowly missing out on a record fifth straight CAF African Player of the Year Award.
The 32-year-old midfielder has previously won the prestigious individual accolade in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Given his form at Manchester City and that he also led Ivory Coast to victory in the African Cup of Nations in 2015 he could easily have won the award for a record fifth time.
But free-scoring Gabon and Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tallied 143 points to upset Yaya in a vote done by coaches or technical directors of CAF member-nations.
In his words he said. “I am disappointed but that won’t take anything from anybody. I am sure Andre (Ayew) is also disappointed after what he did last year,”
“This is not the time to complain. We will all go back and continue to work hard.”

Live wire striker Aubameyang had been strongly tipped to clinch this year’s prize after scoring 18 goals in 17 Bundesliga games and 27 in all competitions this season.
The 26-year-old Gabon skipper said he was delighted to win the award for the first time while praising the abundant talent in his native country.
“We have good players and a good national team in Gabon,” declared Aubameyang after he was named the best African player for the past year and dedicated it to his country.

Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o Fils has also won the award four times, while Nigeria’s Nwankwo Kanu, El Hadj Diouf of Senegal and Yaya’s compatriot Didier Drogba have scooped it twice each.

Winning the award four times in a row was a hit, 2011 to 2014, but sorry Aubameyang had to take it this time... Leave trash for LAWMA bro. lol

PoliticsNo Boko Haram Sponsor, Arms Funds Looters Will Go Unpunished – FG Says by gbolakpine(op): 7:58am On Dec 09, 2015
The Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has reassured Nigerians that neither Boko Haram sponsors nor looters of the funds meant for arms procurement, will be allowed to go scot free.

Minister of Informational and National Orientation, Lai Mohammed, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday, said everyone found complicit will be charged and tried, but added that due process would be followed in bringing those behind the terrorists to book.

“The dilemma of government is how to redress the past wrong. What I want to assure you is that nobody, who is responsible for this situation either by sponsoring Boko Haram or stealing our resources, will go unpunished. That I can assure you. But we will follow due process.”
Although several Boko Haram suspects in Chad were recently executed, Mohammed said Nigeria’s legal system was different and that the authorities would not want any innocent person killed in that process.

“Our legal regime is different. I can assure you that it is not in the interest of the military to protect Boko Haram because they are the first victims of the activities of the insurgents.”

Mohammed also said that nobody in the present government is sponsoring or supporting Boko Haram terrorists in any way, stressing that “nobody in this government will hide a Boko Haram suspect.”

Speaking of the continued captivity of the abducted Chibok girls, the Minister said the military was still searching for them.

“The military is leaving no stone un-turned up till now. Right now, the military is undertaking major onslaughts,” he added.

PoliticsLagos High Court Arraigns TB Joshua, Others Today by gbolakpine(op): 9:33am On Nov 30, 2015
The trustees of Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, will today be arraigned before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over the collapse of a six-storey building in the church on September 12, 2014, which led to the death of 116 persons.

Senior Pastor of the church, Prophet T. B. Joshua is one of the trustees.
The trustees will be arraigned before Justice Lawal Akapo alongside the engineers that constructed the collapsed building.
A statement by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Bola Akingbade, confirmed the scheduled arraignment.

Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court in Lagos had dismissed the fundamental human rights enforcement suits filed by the engineers who constructed the collapsed six-storey building to stop their planned trial.
The engineers— Mr. Oladele Ogundeji and Mr. Akinbela Fatiregun—had filed two separate suits before Justice Buba seeking an order restraining the police from inviting, arresting or prosecuting them over the victims’ death.

The Lagos State Government had set up a Coroner Inquest to unravel what went wrong, and via a verdict delivered on August 7, 2015 by Magistrate Oyetade Komolafe, the Coroner had indicted the engineers and recommended them for investigation and prosecution for criminal negligence.
The engineers had filed the suits following the Coroner’s verdict, which attributed the building collapse to structural defect.
The engineers had specifically rejected the Coroner’s verdict, describing it as “unreasonable, one-sided and biased.”
But Justice Buba, in his ruling on the defendants’ preliminary objection, held that the engineers “had not made out a case of infringement on their fundamental rights even on the merit of the application,” and dismissed their applications.

RomanceHow Lover Boy Killed Girl Friend In Acid Attack by gbolakpine(op): 8:07am On Nov 17, 2015
It was a love story that turned awry, leading to the death of 27 -year old Ladi Moses. Ladi was allegedly bathed with acid by her supposed angry boy friend who was overwhelmed by jealousy and envy.
An ex-student of Government Secondary School, Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, Ladi met her untimely death after the deadly attack a few days ago.

Vanguard Metro, VM gathered from an eyewitness that the deceased was attacked by a young man popularly called “Baba” at the old Nigeria Prison Service Yard in the Wadata area of Makurdi town where she lived with her parents until her death.
According to the source, the duo had been in secret romance over a period of time until the relationship went sour. The source explained that the love birds had carried on despite accusations and counter accusations of infidelity by both parties.
However, efforts were made by friends to resolve their differences when it became obvious that the said Baba was getting desperate and restive about the crisis, yielded no positive results.
“Actually we thought that they had resolved their differences until the unfortunate incident that led to the death of Ladi which no one envisaged.
“From what we heard, on that fateful day, Baba called her out of the house around 7pm in the guise that he wanted to discuss an important issue not knowing that disaster awaited her. Unfortunately when the lady approached him, he engaged her in a heated argument which led to a struggle between them. We heard that it was in the heat of the quarrel that Baba removed a bottle containing a chemical suspected to be acid, from his pocket and poured the contents on the lady who instantly screamed and fell to the ground,” the source recounted.
Continuing, he said, “He (Baba) immediately fled the scene and left the lady who was screaming and wailing for help. The passers-by who were unaware of what was happening, ran for their lives because we all know that Wadata is an area in Makurdi town that is known for cult activities. It was neighbours who heard her cry, that rushed to the scene to see what was happening. But before their arrival, Baba had fled and disappeared from the area. She was immediately rushed to the nearby Makurdi Federal Medical Centre where she was admitted for treatment. But after a while, went into coma and eventually passed on.”
The source told VM that when the unfortunate incident filtered into town, the vigilante group in the area mounted a search for Baba.
“He was eventually arrested at one of the motor parks in town when he was about boarding a taxi out of Makurdi town. The vigilante group arrested and handed him over to the police at ‘A’ Division, Wadata, where he was detained to enable the Police carry out their investigations and interrogation,” he added.
According to the source, Ladi did not survive the first degree burns as she died two days after her admission in the hospital, inspite of efforts by the medical personnel to save her life. When Vanguard Metro visited the home of the deceased, her heart -broken parents were still in shock and unable to speak on the incident.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Matthew Oku, who confirmed the attack, said the Command was yet to received situation reports from medical doctors who treated the deceased lady.
Oku, however assured that the Police were investigating the unfortunate incident, promising that the law would take its full course in the matter.

PoliticsWe Igbos Must Leave Nigeria & Biafra – MASSOB by gbolakpine(op): 12:54pm On Nov 03, 2015
The Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has vowed openly that its self-determination struggle remains on course.
In a reaction through Mr. Uchenna Madu, the factional National Director of Information, MASSOB, said the Biafran struggle remained a genuine movement despite the activities of few bad eggs.

Madu said contrary to Obasanjo’s claims that the so called Biafran struggle has become an avenue to defraud unsuspecting members of the public., Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Biafra Radio, was totally committed towards realizing Biafra.

The MASSOB faction slammed Chief Raph Uwazurike, accusing him of sabotaging the struggle.

According to Madu, “after our monthly National Officers’ meeting at MASSOB headquarters at Freedom House, Okwe, we have decided as follows: Olusegun Obasanjo’s assertion that Biafran activists are fraudsters and General Gowon’s statement that Biafra is a closed issue, were all made because of their conviction on Ralph Uwazuruike’s betrayal and deviation on the Biafran struggle because of his lust for wealth, compromising nature, open political romance and public association with Nigerian government during the Jonathan administration.
“MASSOB condemns the hypocritical call of Ralph Uwazuruike for Nnamdi Kanu’s release. Uwazuruike hates Nnamdi Kanu and celebrates his detention because he is jittery that Nnamdi Kanu has taken over the mainstream of Biafra actualization, which attracts major international sympathies.

“Uwazuruike will be the happiest man if Nnamdi Kanu is dead. Uwazuruike, who claimed that he expelled Nnamdi Kanu from the struggle is making a caricature of himself and his MASSOB faction.”

He added that “MASSOB also condemns the sudden wake-up of Ralph Uwazuruike to establish another Radio Biafra to counter the current Radio Biafra broadcasting all over the world.

“This Uwazuruike’s Radio, which he levied N250,000 on each local government area of his followers in the South East, Rivers, Delta and some western states, through which he raised about N70million, has been diverted to another personal venture.

“Since June 2015, the money meant for establishment of Uwazuruike’s Radio Biafra has been raised; why is his radio not on air? What is still holding the operation of the radio? On which project has the money been diverted to? Can Uwazurike explain to Ndigbo and his brainwashed members what happened to the N70 million? This is another fraud in the name of Biafra actualization.”

According to Vanguard, while accusing Uwazurike of collecting billions of naira to support ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election, the MASSOB faction threatened to “expose all the fraud and criminalities Ralph Uwazuruike committed in the name of Biafra as well as all the houses, hostels, estates and hotels he built, bought and still constructing in Owerri, Lagos and Abuja.”

They maintained that “Nnamdi Kanu was not suspended or expelled by Ralph Uwazuruike or MASSOB; he left MASSOB in 2009 when Ralph Uwazuruike came to London to buy a personal mansion for his family.”

PoliticsEFCC Declares Former Pension Boss, Maina Wanted by gbolakpine(op): 10:01pm On Nov 02, 2015
The former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform in Nigeria, Mr Abdulrasheed Maina, has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency wants Mr Maina to explain his role in what the commission said was the fraudulent biometric contracts allegedly undertaken through him, a former Head of Service, Steve Oronsaye and two others and alleged theft of over two billion Naira pension funds.

The EFCC said Mr Maina was on July 21, 2015 charged alongside Oronsaye, Osarenkhoe Afe and Fredrick Hamilton B Global Services Limited before a Federal High Court on a 24-count charge bordering on procurement fraud and obtaining by false pretence.

In a statement on Monday by the spokesman for the EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, the anti-graft agency said Mr Maina had been at large and consistently shun court proceedings after he was said to have appeared before the court to answer questions over fraud allegations regarding the use of funds meant for Nigerian pensioners.

The EFCC stated that it was left with no option than to declare Mr Maina wanted, asking anyone with reliable information about Mr Maina to report to the agency’s offices or any nearby police station.

PoliticsOil Barons Pushed Me Out Of EFCC – Waziri by gbolakpine(op): 3:14pm On Nov 02, 2015
Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs. Farida Waziri, yesterday revealed that she came under “fierce attacks, slander, blackmail and threats,” while trying to end oil-money induced corruption.

In a statement by her media aide, Ade Williams, the ex-chairman said she was happy that there is ‘a new sheriff in town’, alluding to the anti-corruption stance of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mrs Waziri spoke at Benue State University, Makurdi during the inauguration of World Bank’s Africa Centre of Excellence Project, Centre for Food Technology and Research.
The university was chosen by the World Bank as one of the centres for its 10 Africa Centre of Excellence Project.

While calling for a drastic diversification of the nation’s economy from oil through policies that would boost agricultural productivity and reduce corruption, the ex-EFCC boss said long years of over-dependence on oil revenue was one of the driving forces of public and private sectors, corruption in the country.

Waziri said diversification of the economy would also boost industrial output for the socio-economic development of Nigeria. She said: “No doubt, our over-dependence on oil revenue has brought us to the point where we are as a nation today. As an anti-corruption czar, I have seen how some of those the nation entrusted with its oil resources in the past helped themselves more than the country.

“With our focus on agriculture, the struggle by political office holders to steal oil fund would diminish while the national wealth will be in the hands of the people instead of a privileged greedy few. We cannot all dig oil wells in our backyard, but we can all farm in our backyards. It is time to end oil-money induced corruption in our land by buying into President Buhari’s vision and take ownership.

“I have made my contributions in the fight to discourage that and even recovered some of the looted funds in billions of dollars. For daring to do that, I came under fierce attacks, slander, blackmail and threats, but by God’s grace and long years of experience, I survived all. I am glad today that indeed, there is a new sheriff in town,” Mrs. Waziri noted.

With the news of the arrival of a new born prince, he was specifically named Adeyeye by his grandfather Pa. Joseph Olagbaju Adewole Ogunwusi Jnr. The name Adeyeye in English translates to ‘A Crown Befitting for a King’; Pa Ogunwusi on setting his eyes on the new born prince began to call him Adeyeye Ooni from that very day till he passed away.

Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi was quietly delivered into the humble family of Prince Ropo and late Margaret Wuraola Ogunwusi (Ile Opa family compound, Ile-Ife). Like the proverb, “A golden fish has no hiding place”, young prince Ogunwusi’s excellence and outstanding acumen would soon start to announce it for the world to see.
Prince Adeyeye is best described as an astute entrepreneur driven by turning impossibilities to ‘possibilities’. The Young Prince’s power of imagination has set him aside, hence, revolutionizing his approach to creativity and innovation. He is a distinct achiever with the conscience of youthful excellence.

PoliticsBoko Haram: Britain Trains 150 Soldiers Ahead Of December Deadline by gbolakpine(op): 8:09am On Oct 27, 2015
In order to ensure Nigeria meets the December deadline to flush out Boko Haram in the North-east, Britain is trainning 150 Nigerian soldiers.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, dislcosed this yesterday after opening a week-long British Military Advisory and Training Team facilitated command and leadership seminar for 150 Warrant Officers and senior Non-commissioned Officers of the Nigerian Army, at Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna. Buratai said he and other security chiefs were doing everything possible to send insurgents packing before the December deadline expires.

Represented by Commander, Infantry Corps, Major-General Sanusi Muazu, the COAS noted that there could not be a professionally responsive Nigerian Army without an equally effective Warrant Officers’ and Senior Non-commissioned Officers’ cadre, hence the need for the training which is targeted at the cadre of the force, a link between the officers and soldiers.
Meanwhile, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Tunde Ogunsakin said yesterday that Boko Haram could be more dangerous now because of the military onslaught which has depleted its membership.

Addressing officers and men in Maiduguri, Borno State yesterday during a familiarisation tour of the area, Ogunsakin, who is in charge of Borno, Yobe and Bauchi Police Commands, said the insurgents though “depleted and fleeing,” should be taken more seriously than before, adding that the insurgents were “like wounded lions dangerous to people’s lives and property.”

“Recent happenings have shown that just like wounded lions, the insurgents are deadlier and more dangerous than in the past. This is a battle that our gallant police officers are ready for and definitely are winning,” he stated.

EventsJos Holds Mass Wedding For 52 Couples! (Photos) by gbolakpine(op): 1:24pm On Oct 24, 2015
Jos, the Plateau State capital, witnessed an unusual event last Sunday as a Catholic church joined 52 men with 52 women in a mass wedding ceremony. St. Moses Parish of the Catholic Church located in Tudunwada, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, facilitated the tying of nuptial knots by the love birds who took turns to take marriage oaths before they were formally joined in holy matrimony.

The mass wedding was the first of its kind not only in Jos but the entire Plateau State. There had been mass weddings before that day, but none of them involved more than 20 couples at a time. The church witnessed the biggest crowd in its history.

While the roads leading to the church witnessed the most hectic traffic congestion ever. All the couples had been married in the traditional way and most of them had lived together in marriage for years. Many of them had even raised children and were looking forward to their grandchildren. But they felt that their lives were not complete because they had all along shut Jesus Christ out of their marriage.
