AgentOfAllah:
Nigerian law school is not, and I repeat it is NOT an association! Stop bringing irrelevant arguments as if they have any bearing on the present issue.
Please read the argument I made to Geist below:
LoL please stop this. This has nothing to do with the Nigerian Law School. The lady attended and and graduated from the Law School without any issue. This is about her call to bar. Get your facts right Agent
CareerRe: Amasa Firdaus: Why I Wore The Hijab Intentionally To Bar Ceremony by Geist(m): 4:58pm On Dec 17, 2017
AgentOfAllah:
Please tell me how wearing the hijab inhibits discipline in the legal profession?

Did you even read the link you provided? The argument in that link has nothing to do with this case at all. That link presents a judgement that argues against adjudicatory roles for courts in disputes regarding the rules of voluntary associations. The Nigerian law school is an institution established by the [urlhttp://www.nigeria-law.org/Legal%20Education.htm]Legal Education Act of Nigeria. It is stated in the link that "The Council of Legal Education runs the Nigeria Law School and all persons who have obtained a University degree in law and want to practice as lawyers in Nigeria, must attend the Nigerian Law School"
To the best of my knowledge, the language conveys anything but voluntarism. Thus, the Nigerian law school is not a voluntary association, thus, is subject to the regulations and oversight of the Nigerian legal system.
Hijab does not inhibit discipline but adhering to a certain agreed dress code does promote discipline(It shows that these set of people are capable of recognising rules and adhering to them) and breaking that dress code is a sign of indiscipline. Please you might want to look to wikipedia for the description of voluntary associationstions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voluntary_association specifically is mentions that "Membership is not necessarily voluntary: in order for particular associations to function correctly they might need to be mandatory or at least strongly encouraged, as is common with many teachers unions in the US.". Please let's also note that the lady in question was not prevented from attending Law School, She was prevented from answering her call to bar by the Body of Benchers which is still under the Nigerian Bar Association. Please read the link well and see how the judgement passed was about the appellant claiming a law in the NBA infringes his fundamental human rights. The court definitely considers the NBA a voluntary association.

The dress code is silly.

Why the wig? What does it signify? Why the robe inside heat? Black robe again that does not do well in heated places.

Mynd44:
I hope the law school changes. There are a lot of laws there that are crazy and need to be reviewed the dresscode is one and the dresscode needs to go. But people are not assking for it to go, they want a pass for hijab which is just silly
Why then does it need to change? Just because the dress code was inherited?

AgentOfAllah:
What is the reason for uniforms? And how does the link you provided show that hijab interferes with her carrying out her duties?
The bolded is Perhaps the question that should be asked first. As far I am aware, it's to promote discipline within its members. With certain professions, certain level of discipline is required and as such there are cultures put in place to promote that level of discipline. A soldier would not stand on a parade with beret bent sideways and claim bending his beret does not interfere with him performing his duties. The link might not explain how wearing an hijab stops her from performing her duties but it states clearly that her actions are wrong. If she wishes to change the status quo then she has to get in first. Now my reasons might be inadequate that is why personally I am waiting to hear from the NBA themselves.

Please, if you have an argument that shows my position to be erroneous, I'm very curious to see it. Share it here, there are too many topics on front page to know what you're on about.
Perhaps try to understand the reasons for the uniforms in the first place. https://www.nairaland.com/4238522/legal-precedence-firdaus-hijab-nigerian

You mistake my position! Let me be clear, I support the right of anybody to wear their hijab in or outside the courthouse because I don't believe her hijab interferes with her ability to practice her profession. This is not a sentimental position either, unless there is something sentimental about secularism.
Are you in the best position to claim the bolded? I think there is a topic on FP addressing this issue already

A newbie in bitcoin especially you must know your onions a lot. That is why dotcomnamename was advocating for tbills earlier. I got his point and was a valid one: the volatility.

You know why I might not advise crypto general for a newbie: In tbills your interest is sure..infact you know you know interest/ paid ur interest upfront except you choose not to yourself. I think same thing works for MMF but in crypto you can predict the picture.

You don't know maybe eventually you will get burnt in crypto and it requires you following their updates up to date to know decision that will crash or increase its value. Last time a crash was mention here the value was 16,3plus and presently 18,3plus.

If you aren't risk thickened and hearted stick to those government security program
LoL thanks for your response but I don't intend to go into bitcoins immediately not until I am sure I understand the market and the kind of risk I'm making with each investment and same goes for Tbills. I am told Tbills is risk free but one can loose money if they don't wait till maturity while some can still make gain. I would like to know how to predict these times to I can move investments.

Hi friends, I have close to 340k I was willing to invest in Tbills. But I hear now is not a good time for Tbills and that I should wait for the new year. That aside I plan to move my investments between Tbills, MMF funds and maybe bitcoins if I am able to understand how to navigate these funds and make decisions based on the current market trends. Unfortunately I am a newbie to investment and these things just seem like tongues to me. Anybody willing to coach me here?

PR: We all have our pr. We invest so much of our energy and resources into maintaining it. By pr I mean the image that we present to the world. This is a fundamental aspect of our psychological make up, the need to be seen in a certain way by society. The awful truth is that no one is like their pr. There is so much more to the human being than the way he presents himself. In fact I can say with almost total certainty that the the truth about someone involves the diametric opposite of the manner in which they have presented themselves.

But what has all this got to do with Religion? Well I believe that the mask and all the investment and energy that we put into it is a major stumbling block to spiritual growth.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From here: https://www.nairaland.com/320733/back-track-jack#4505079
please can you shed more light on the difference between the intentional misrepresentation of self to others and the self as self construed. Also how does investing in ones persona prove a stumbling block to spiritual growth. Shouldn't everyone have a persona and a good persona at that? Wouldn't that require some level of investment? I sense this might have to do with the level of investment one puts in and if so how does one know the level that would be deemed dangerous to spiritual growth?

Ok. Mary consented so its not r.ape. I got that wrong. Happy now?

Perhaps its then regular consensual fornication between the Holy Ghost and her as they were not married, Abi.

Go and read the passage and tell me if Mary had a choice.

An Omnipotent power spoke a decree to her. That power did not negotiate with her or seek her permission.

At all events remember I am not seriously concerned with this topic. I regard it as a myth. Just fooling around in this thread bro. Bored.
Many of you think yourselves too different from the religious fanatics you criticize but you really aren't. Simple, oh I got that wrong. You're on about how you think the story is a myth. What's the relevance of that in this discussion huh huh

If you read the passage carefully you will note that Mary was not given a choice. It was a command and she answered as a servant.

The same way a servant would answer her master who commands her to have s.ex. Compliance is instant and compulsory and not a matter of choice.

The words of the Angel did not request permission. They laid down a decree of what was going to happen, no questions asked.

Read Luke 1 again.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+1

Now having said that I am actually speaking light heartedly so don't take me too seriously. I personally regard the story as a myth. There are many such virgin birth myths in antiquity. The myth about Jesus is not the only one.
Lol, is this the same way you would argue that a soldier who just answered Yes Sir to the instructions of his superiors minutes before getting killed in a warfare was actually forced and coerced to obey instructions which eventually killed him?

It is said that the Holy Spirit caused Mary to become pregnant.

Accordingly under christian teaching God r.aped Mary as he did not seek her consent.
Is that your definition of rape? The Bible clearly said an Angel of the Lord appeared to Mary to inform her and her reply if I remember correctly was "Let it be done to me according to his(God) will". Not sure how exactly it then qualifies as rape. Please explain

The narrative does not say that Joseph did the deed. It alleges that God r.aped Mary.

I don't believe any part of the s.illy story by the way.

With regard to cross bearers I am referring to adherents of the Grail Message. I have a reason for asking that question. Some of them believe a Roman soldier was responsible.
How exactly did the narrative allege rape? undecided

if you were conversant with Greek you would know that the term until doesn't necessarily imply that the opposite happened after.

firstborn is the legal term the Jews use to refer to a child that opens the womb it doesn't imply that there exist a second or third born.
an only son is also a firstborn.
Even in English it does not mean the opposite happened. It only means the opposite didn't happen within the time frame specified( i.e before the birth of Jesus) . Afterwards ?? The writers were definitely not bothered about that.

AgentOfAllah:
Falsifiability does not mean the theory is false, it just means the theory possesses an inherent quality that makes it disprovable. A falsifiable claim must satisfy two requirements to be seen as such:

(1) It must make definite predictions on the subject in question
(2) Such predictions must be testable.

For example, I may propose that every human alive has a heart. This claim is yet falsifiable because it meets both conditions. (1) It predicts that you will find any human alive with a heart, and (2) This prediction is testable because the heart is a definite organ that occupies a specific location in our bodies, which can be detected by various independent tools such as a stethoscope, ultrasonic sensors, x-ray imaging and so on.

I may also claim that the hearth pumps because there are imperceptible percussionists tirelessly playing musical rhythms on their invisible bass drums located inside the heart. This proposition may be supported by fact. We do hear the rhythm of our hearts, after all! Yet, it is not falsifiable because, how do you test the presence of imperceptible percussionists?
Let me see if I get you correctly. By falsifiable you mean that it is true but could have been false only in this case(a theory) it is true and cannot be false again? Also I would like you to contrast a scientific theory to a law if they are different. I'm sorry if these things seem like what I should understand with all that has been said so far.
Christianity EtcRe: Epic Response To An Astronaut Who Said 'I See No God Up Here' by Geist(m): 10:21pm On Sep 04, 2017
AgentOfAllah:
Scientific theories are propositions with predictive powers that can explain several bodies of independently observed facts and natural phenomena. For a theory to be accepted as scientific, it must therefore, be supported by a large body of testable facts, and it must, itself, be falsifiable. As such, for anything to be called a theory in scientific pedagogy, it must have been subjected to, and withstood rigorous scrutiny. A "theory" in colloquial parlance may be "JUST" something, but a scientific theory isn't "JUST" anything. The "many other theories" you've referenced are, in fact, hypotheses, not theories as far as science is concerned. So when I explain something to you using established scientific theories, be rest assured that it isn't just some conjured speculation from scientists..........
I read this post sometime ago and I always meant to ask if you could explain how something that is supported by a large body of facts be yet falsifiable? That part got me confused.

Christianity EtcRe: How To Witness To Loved Ones Who Are Roman Catholics by Geist(m): 10:04pm On Jul 29, 2017
asuustrike2009:
Catholics worship Mary like God.I pity those idolaters that have refuse to change even when the evidence is starring at their faces. Here are facts to prove they worship idol
an Idolater is a devoted admirer of idols but what does the Bible say about images and idols?

1. Exodus 20:4-5
“Thou shalt not MAKE unto thee ANY graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not BOW DOWN thyself to them Nor SERVE them.”

Do Catholics MAKE graven images? Yes.
Do Catholics KNEEL down to statues of Mary or Jesus? Yes.
Do Catholics SERVE Mary? Yes, as in “Legion of Mary.”
Do Catholics BOW DOWN and kiss the foot of the pagan god Jupiter which was renamed St Peter? Yes.

2. Leviticus 26:1
“You shall make you NO IDOLS nor GRAVEN IMAGE. Neither rear you up a STANDING IMAGE. Neither shall ye set up any IMAGE OF STONE in your land to bow down unto it.”

Do Catholics rear up STANDING IMAGES? Yes.
Do Catholics set up any IMAGE OF STONE? Yes.

3. Deuteronomy 4:16
“Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and MAKE you a GRAVEN IMAGE, the similitude of ANY FIGURE, the likeness of MALE or FEMALE.”

Do Catholics make graven images of MALE or FEMALE? Yes. Mary is a female. Jesus and the apostles are males.

4. Deuteronomy 16:22
“Neither shalt thou SET thee UP ANY IMAGE: which the Lord thy God HATES.”

Do Catholics SET UP ANY IMAGES? Yes.
Does God HATE IMAGES? Yes.

5. 1 Thessalonians 1:9
“How ye turned to God FROM IDOLS to serve the living and true God.”

Did the early Christians turn FROM IDOLS? Yes.

6. Deuteronomy 27:15
“CURSED be the man that MAKES ANY GRAVEN or MOLTEN IMAGE, an abomination unto the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place.”

Does God put a curse on any person that makes any image? Yes.
Why does God call an image an ABOMINATION? Because He hates it.

7. The early Christians had NO IMAGES
Early Christian writers such as Irenaeus, Clement, Cyprian, Athanasius and Jerome wrote strongly AGAINST images, statues and any manner of prayer or veneration regarding them. The Council of Constantinople in 381 A.D. voted unanimously to remove all images from the Churches.

8. The Catholic Church removes the second Commandment against MAKING graven images from the list of the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:1-17. This presents them with the problem of only having 9 Commandments. They resolve this problem by splitting Commandment number 10 into 9 and 10. That is: 9. You shall not covet your neighbour's wife. 10. You shall not covet your neighbour's goods. The following is seen in the book “A brief summary of the Ten Commandments” by the Daughters of St. Paul, p.12, 13:

WHAT ARE THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD?
The Commandments of God are these ten:
“I am the Lord your God:
1. You shall not have strange Gods before me.
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
3. Remember to keep holy the Lord's day.
4. Honor your father and your mother.
5. You shall not kill.
6. You shall not commit adultery.
7. You shall not steal.
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.
9. You shall not covet your neighbour's wife.
10. You shall not covet your neighbour's goods.” Exodus 20:1-17

The number Two Commandment should be “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” Exodus 20:4. Check your Catechism to see if they have left it out.
9. Every Catholic institution has images of Mary, Jesus and male and female figures. An example of this are two statues at the French Papal Palace of Avignon, one of Jesus about 20 metres above ground level, and the other is an enormous statue of Mary, much larger, grander and higher up than that of Jesus. This gives the greater honour to Mary than Jesus. It also breaks the second Commandment forbidding making images of things in heaven.

Who do we believe, the Word of God or the Catholic Church? “We ought to obey God, rather than men.” Acts 5:29
SMH for you. Despite the fact everyone here is trying to teach, yet you refuse to learn. What is worship to you. Does mere bowing down or venerating an entity to constitute worship to you? I doubt you can properly worship anything as I doubt you know the true meaning of it.
