Travel / Re: What Buiness Can Run In Ghana by gentlebullet(m): 2:56pm On Mar 10, 2019
Good afternoon OP, i am very sorry my response is gonna be harsh but that is the honest truth. You have decided to go into business choosing Ghana as your market and you are here on Nairaland looking for someone who didn't help you raise capital and who don't have any idea of how enterprising you are to help you decide on the type or kind of business or commodity to trade in. i doubt if you really hustled to gather the capital you have at hand to venture into the yet to start business or trade.
Ghana is a visa-free country for you as a Nigerian to travel to, you can reduce cost of travel by going by road, there are lots of bed space hostels in Accra you can lodge for as low as 10Ghc per night(if you don't have someone to accommodate you). why don't you pick up your passport and health vaccination card(yellow card), buy a bus ticket and head down to Accra on a 4/5days fact finding mission(won't cost you more than 60k if you are prudent).

Since you are strictly interested in the business opportunities in Accra and not vacation, you can locate one of the numerous bed space hostels in tudu, adabraka, new town, High street, etc. during the day you move around the markets from mokola, CMB, katamanto, high street to kwame nkruma circle, kokolemle, abosey okkai, kaneshie to odorkor, sakaman, awoshie, fadama, medina, agbogloshie market ( pls make use of trotro(public bus) for commuting within the city. taxis are expensive), You eat in local restaurants and retire to the hostel at the end of each day's findings. You will meet lots of Nigerian residents doing businesses and you can interact with them and also citizens too. You can do window shopping to know the cost of items you know are also very common in Nigeria or probably manufactured in Nigeria. i can assure you after 4 - 5 days of intensive fact finding on the street of Accra you will have ideas of what trade or business is gonna be okay with you.

Mind you, your visit will help you understand the currency, exchange rate, get to feel the environment, meet people, make acquaintances/friends, experience transportation within Accra, have idea of the cost of living and also help you have a cue on how to negotiate cost of transporting your intended wares/goods from Nigeria to Ghana. Remember everybody's story is gonna be different just as our destinies are different. i left Nigeria to Accra some 10+years ago on fact finding mission on how to start a business, i thank God i did cos i end up using my then capital to put up a commercial building in Cape Coast instead. CHEERS AND GOOD LUCK!

P.S: PLEASE I BEG YOU IN THE NAME OF GOD, STAY AWAY FROM KASOA & BUDUBURAM!!! That area is the hub of naija Yahoo boys and Oloshos!!!

how much bta od required to cross from Dakar airport to Praia tho?

just curious to know
I was told minimum of 500US dollars and it also depends on the duration of your stay. But it's strictly NO BTA, NO ENTRY STAMP.

May be it was because you were on official duties that was why you didn't go through some protocols,I heard there are some formalities at the airport especially for africans visiting. I just hope someone on unofficial duties in cabo Verde Come online to clearify the entry procedures and living in general.
Sir I would like to give comparison of both Nigeria and Cabo Verde.
Like I said earlier, CV is a small islands country so it's business potentials can't be compared to that of naija. The population is small so it means buying power is very little. They have very good social amenities for the size of the country ie electricity is 24/7, portable water available, good roads, good and almost free health care, the layout of housing is nice for the views, clean beaches, lots of nice and not too expensive resorts, I never encountered traffic during my times there, the citizens are calm and easy going, good security, very very clean environment.
The country is developing into a mini Europe kind of environment. The only downside is the high cost of living and language

does Nigerians actually live in this island?
The Nigerians I have met in CV were those on vacations and only one Nigerian woman who is a resident is a colleague( I just learnt she was transferred to Guinea Bissau in January)

Thanks for the write up,if you don't mind on arrival both cruise and flight was there any token you paid to the immigration, also what did you do this trip. And what is the cost of flight ticket from Dakar, also the cost of the cruise, thanks.
My trips were for official duties. You won't have to pay any money to immigration upon arrival. The last time I flew into Praia from Dakar was June 2018 and the airfare was CFA220,000 roundtrip and it's a 45mins - 60mins flight(Dakar - Praia - Dakar) I paid cash at transair office at the airport in Dakar.
The two boat cruise experiences were official group trips so I don't know about the cost implications and I don't get to pass through immigration formalities in the course of my official trips within the ECOWAS sub-region.

CV is a country consisting of islands( the islands I have visited are Fogo, Santiago, Brava and the capital Praia), a Portuguese speaking nation though they mainly speak a native language called Kriolu, lots of its citizens speaks French too. The islands have lots of forts and castles, very beautiful women and friendly too.
Getting to Praia is either by air from Dakar airport or through cruise vessels ( I have done both). There are flights everyday( CV is a member of the ECOWAS so it's visa free for Nigeria passport holders) but be very careful of our naija brothers at Dakar airport who are ready to rent you fake dollar notes as BTA as it will be requested at the airport in Praia on arrival.
CV is not a business hub so hustling there isn't gonna be easy. The islands are more of tourists destination and few fishing and port or harbour jobs.
Cost of living is quiet high there too. Lots of naija Yahoo boys based in Dakar always go into CV to flex during weekends when they confirm cash from their clients.

Please let us be objective with our submission or take on this issue. Lots of Nigerians have been living in Ghana before 2015 especially students whose parents were paying tuition in US dollars. Just about a year into the Buhari Administration, the influx of young Nigerians into Ghana began to rise with majority of them not having any tangible means of income apart from cyber fraud and Prostitution.

The truth of the matter is that the crime rate in Ghana in the last 2+ years has been terrible. Armed robbery, Kidnapping, etc which has never been norms in the country is now almost daily occurrence and the few perpetrators of this criminal acts the security operatives have been able to apprehend are all Nigerians.
From Accra to Kasoa to Tarkoradi to Kumasi to Tarkwa to Koforidua the bad eggs among the naija guys are messing up. Lots of them are in Ankaful and Nsawam prisons already serving different jail terms for crimes they were convicted of but the Ghanaian authority thinks its better they deport all the undocumented or illegal foreigners than to wait for them to commit crimes and then jail them. mind you, its not only Nigerians that are been deported. other nationals that are undocumented immigrants are also affected.
So this is not a deliberate hatred against Nigerians. lots of us that are documented and law abiding are still here and going about our various hustle and work without any form of harassment or arrest.

Hmmmm! I don't even know what to believe anymore. Ifyalways are you leaving in Ghana? How easy is it to get a government job job in Ghana as a Nigerian? I won't even try that.
The poster telling you that all you need to sell food in Accra is a kiosk and you only pay municipal levy and tax, etc is not telling you the reality on ground.
Am not gonna go back and forth with anyone here, my advice is; visit Accra 1st to understand how things work here.
Then you can decide if you wanna give it a shot.

The thing is; they just want to be rude to Nigerians. Our green passport really doesn't help anywhere.
Well from my working experience, I will say some gullible Nigerians sold out others to ECOWAS states border officials.

Are these monies they were demanding to stamp passports statutory fees?
NO! The immigration officials at both Hilla- Codji and Aflao exploited OP cos he is a Nigerian (they believe Nigerians are loaded cash-wise) and he was with his wife (he will always be a gentleman).

Its by air.
Monrovia-Lagos straight.
I really appreciate.
You can still appeal to the LIS official at Roberts Intl Airport to consider a reduction. it depends on your manner of approach. make sure you check-in early so you can have time to persuade the officials. The few LIS officials i have worked with are always reasonable especially the females. Good luck

its 2 month sir.
You are most welcome Bro. If you will be disembarking through the Monrovia-Zwedru-Harper route border (or Monrovia-Greenville-Zwedru-Harper route), you should be able to convince the immigration official that will attend to you to accept $50 and you will be stamped out. wish you all the best.

Liberia.
Thank you.
official overstay fine in Liberia is $50 per month. But you can always negotiate you way out if your overstay exceeds 3months(its advisable you do that at the border or airport at the point of disembarking from the country)If you go to the LIS office at airfield new road, you will definitely be made to pay full.

Please I need information on this.
is there any big fine or penalty if you overstay your visa in another ECOWAS country as a Nigerian.
your prompt response will be appreciated,
thanks.
Yes there is a fine for overstaying. Which of the ECOWAS state do you want to know about? The fine differs in each member state.

Hello,
How is the border crossing now that the border has been opened.? I read that they no longer ollect cah at boarder

Considering short vacation but ABC cost is 16,500 and that is just one way trip
Can I take regular cab? I have yellow card and passport ( which I've used a few times before)
I would rather not use passport.
What would you advise and how much to go with regular cabs
Hi,
Opening of the border at seme has not really changed anything concerning crossing of the border with either okada or makeshift tricycle. the border opening is mainly used by transport coys and individual who wanna cross the border on foot and is ready for the numerous harassment and bribe collecting.
if u are considering crossing without passport, just take a bike at the nigeria end of the border, pay the fare (#700 at most) and then take a cab at the Benin side to cotonou (1000cfa)
whoever told u they no longer collect cash at the border was lucky not to be sighted by those corrupt immigration peeps. CHEERS

Thanks once again for ur prompt response.. U know all this okirika traders are a lil bit secretive.. but I will look for one and also make enquiries from this coy if they help out. You have Ben helpful bro
You are most welcome bro. the sellers i meant in the 1st reply are the ones in Lome market not those retailing in Naija. the sellers in Lome wants their wares to be bought so they can make money so they are always helpful so far you are not buying on credit(that is what a lady who used to buy ladies shoes from Lome to sell in Lagos told me when we chatted few mins ago. tho she has since relocated to Belgium) and she recommended ABC and Chisco as your best bet for sending your goods to Lagos.
Try visit their terminus in Amuwo Odofin and Maza maza respectively to make more enquiries.
Hope this helps

thanks for this wonderful analysis.. am planning on doing business of used clothes(okirika) Cotonou or Togo, which of this country is good for purchase of bales and how easy it is bringing it down cos I heard used clothes are ban here in Nigeria. don't know how true that is though. Will appreciate ur urgent response sir[

well, i don't really know much about the Okirika business but from the word of mouth from people i have met on the route, i was told that its cheaper in Togo and the business is mainly controlled by the Igbo traders in the Lome market(things are actually cheaper in Togo than Benin Rep).
As for logistics, you can always make use of the Transport coys(they have a way of making sure goods get into Naija without issues). cos i usually send bags of perfume long grain rice to Naija through Efex transport from Accra.
You can also ask the sellers to hook you up with reliable couriers. All the best

Thanks very much, the reason am going is just to stamp the passport........ If I take any of those coy bus going to Togo, and it get stamp, when coming back do I need to take them again...

Sorry this response is coming late. i have been off radar working in a remote village btw Sierra Lone-Guinea border since on wednesday just got back to Freetown last nite. i will advice you make your return trip with the transport coy for comfort and easy border formalities since you are carrying a virgin Passport. the fact is that, once any Nigerian youth travels along the ECOWAS route on a virgin passport, its assumed that the traveler's intention is to disvirgin the passport to facilitate easy visa procurement to migrate out of Africa so the immigration officers are always ready to either frustrate or milk the passport holder. i hope this changes someday

Thank you for this sweet information.... Please I want to travel to Togo by road. I have yellow card and passport already.... With what you have say, will my passport be stamp at the border in and out of the country, that is what I want to do.... I will be looking for your reply

If you want your passport to be stamped, then i would advice you patronise any of the transport coy that ply the ECOWAS route( ABC, Efex, Chisco, Young shall Grow, GUO, Cross Country, etc) cos stamping of passport especially at the Nigeria-Benin Rep border is war..(cos of the porous nature of the border both at Seme and Idiroko, you wouldn't know which of the immigration check point has the stamp to endorse your passport so you keep paying bribes till you get to the other side and if care is not taken, you might end up not getting your passport stamped even after all the bribes) Hilla-Codji(Benin-Togo border) is till very organised, you will see the immigration post and your passport will be stamped at both side of the border after negotiating btw 500cfa - 1000cfa(depending on your negotiating prowess.
If stamping of the passport is not compulsory for you, pls keep your passport in the house and hit the road with any National ID you got and follow the routine in the write up you quoted.... Bon Voyage cheesy
