MERCHANDISER:To be honest with you, I don't think your aforementioned plan is good enough. 1. 30k isn't gonna get you to Abidjan from Lagos ATM. 2. With the recent way the naira is slipping off, 200k isn't alot of cash when you eventually start spending in CFA. 3. Without a good command of the french language, surviving what you stated above in Abidjan is a suicide mission. My advice is simple: If you insist Abidjan is your only option, budget at least 1million CFA(at least that will take care of accommodation, transport, feeding, biz startup, etc till you get used to the system). Never expect getting free accommodation in Abidjan except from relatives or a very close ally if not, there are consequences CHEERS 5 Likes |

Funny how random persons demand I paste my contact number here as if I am an agent in Benin Republic. My experience with helping persons from nairaland to get settled in other west African countries almost cost me my career. Once bitten is twice shy..... I will keep dropping tips at my disposal for easy passage and settling down here for anyone that ask. 1 Like |

Novartis:Do as it pleases you sir, the problem with we Nigerians is that when one person gets lucky under running the system, lots follow suit and then end up bringing the consequences on the large citizenry. FYI, you can always cross the border without any ID. but as a graduate student, what if you are to make a trip outside Benin, excursion or even need to go get data and info for academic purpose...... Mind you, countries are getting more hostile against Nigerians everyday since your qovt refuse to have sense. What played out in Benin 2years ago isn't same as we speak cos your govt is dumb regarding diplomacy. All the best sir 6 Likes 1 Share |

Novartis:You do need your passport as an international student in Rep of Benin cos the school will have to get you documented with the authorities. The ECOWAS treaty only permits you to visit and stay for only 90 days at a time so a temporary resident permit will be processed for you by the school admin and that can only be done with your duly stamped passport. 1 Like |

pretts:At the first address/session of the new ECOWAS chair ( Ghanaian president) last week to the commission(i was in attendance), there was wide deliberations on when and how member states should open land borders and no conclusion was made cos member's reps on the commission will have to present the commission's suggestions to their home govt. As it stands now, the promise by pharmaceuticals to likely make the availability of rapid test kits at a low cost is what the region is awaiting so that any documented traveler can be tested at the point of entry for as low as $5 at every land border entry point. We await updates this new week from govts of member states. According to my plugs in Port Novo, I learnt you can get a vehicle from mile2 to Cotonou codedly and get your passport stamped at idiroko but the fare is in the range of 25k-30k. For present exchange rates, I don't know at the moment but pm me so I can give you the contact of the vendor who always bring us forex whenever we are in Benin Rep for work. When you call him, he will tell you the current rate so you know how to bargain with them changers at idiroko. I hope these helps. CHEERS |

Travel / Re: Relocating To Lome Togo by gentlebullet(m): 12:28am On Sep 18, 2020 |
OP let me just drop my honest 2cent here. Lome isn't a bad city to stay and do legit biz but our very own brothers and sisters have messed up the three countries that borders naija on the west(Benin,Togo and Ghana). No right thinking citizen will be happy to see undocumented foreigners breaking traffic rules, robbing, kidnapping, car jacking, introducing drugs to teenagers and championing cultism in their country and be happy with them. The worst of it all is that our present govt is so clueless about diplomacy that the consular reps in those countries are just figure heads so the host govt have no option than to go rogue on offending Nigerians. Legit and law abiding Nigerians are respected and celebrated in these countries. Pls, if you must migrate to any of these countries, avoid these set of Nigerians: 1.Pastors 2 footballer Agents 3.Yahoo boys 4.Girls who claim to be make up artist( na wash, dem be olosho). The cost of living is high in those countries compare to Nigeria....rent,utilities,transportation, etc so be prepared and make sure you regularise your stay by getting documented to avoid harassment. If you don't mind, look into Sierra Leone, Freetown to be precise... That country has prospects and language is not a barrier..... The citizens love Nigerians and see them as big brothers but make sure you are legit o! If you are caught doing illegal stuffs there, na silent execution o them no dey go media with their things. NEROSKY:I don't think I am even in the position to throw more light cos my few visits to cape Verde were all official duties and I didn't make time to look out for Nigerians residents, the few I saw at the airport, bars, on boat and beaches were yahoo boys on visit (cos by their appearance and loud mouthing you don't need a seer to tell you who they are). you have mentioned the best option yourself. Visit the island first, then you can have a real life experience about the country then you decide on your next move 1 Like |

NEROSKY:Getting a resident permit on the island as a Nigerian is very difficult except you have loads of cash to start a business there so you will apply for work permit and then resident permit. Remember the island's economy is tourism and seafood dependent so the authority is ready to tax you as much as it can. I don't know about the cost of rent cos I stayed in hotels the few times I visited the island but from the little I know, it's not easy to rent an apartment without documention and getting documention means enough cash cos you will be charged in US dollars. If you know you have got enough cash, then you can give it a try but if you really want to learn Portuguese, Cape Verde shouldn't be an option for you cos aside the cost, you wouldn't concentrate on learning the language. There are lots of distractions on the island.... The beautiful and friendly women, the beautiful beach, loads of alcohol, plenty english and french speaking visitors, etc will make you lose focus on the language my brother. If you are really serious able learning Portuguese, your best bet is either Angola or Guninea-Bissau. Angola will require a visa, the cost of living is high and also flight ticket but you will get to learn pure Portuguese. Guninea-Bissau is an ecowas country so you won't need a visa, cost of living is very cheap, the country can be accessed by road, it's an underdeveloped country so luxury is scarce there and under such condition, you will learn the language fast cos you will be eager to pick up fast and leave. My 2cents though The choice is yours Bro CHEERS! 2 Likes |

kachi19:I will still maintain my stand which is "expensive is relative" If you earn in Naira and have not been used to traveling by Air and paying hotel bills in US dollars, then it will look expensive to you when you travel and then yours bills are in dollars given with the current exchange rates as the naira is sick at the moment. That is why i said you should first check out the price for flight on their website, check out for hotel price on booking.com, check out for cost of food, drinks, boat cruise, etc everything is online. You can then make a judgement of if you can afford the trip or not. CHEERS 3 Likes |

kachi19:To my understanding as a travel freak, the cost or amount individual needs for any trip is relative.... The most important and cash consuming aspect of every trip is transportation and accommodation. At the time I made the quoted submit, there was no direct flight from Lagos to Praia but Cabo Verde Air started direct flight in Dec 2019 and only suspended operation when covid show faced.... So you can check out for cost of flight on their website. For accommodation, my choice of hotel or Air BnB might be different from yours so you need to check that online too. For feeding, tourist sites sightseeing, hanging out, boat Cruise, etc I don't know if my choice will be yours too but what I always advice folks is that, when you get the total cost of flight and hotel of your choice, always make sure you have at least same amount of that as your pocket money which will cater for feeding, logistics, sightseeing, etc so you can have max fun. For example if after checking flight and hotel of your choice rounded to the number of days you wanna stay and the total cost is $1000, then having $1000 as pocket money is cool. 2 Likes |

shegzy25:It is people like you that are degrading the Nigerian passport. You think passport control policy is still like in the 90s and early 2000..... You have no idea what PIESICS is all about. It is this system that the Shengen, USA, Canada, etc use to detect the various documents fraud practices Nigerian travel agents are using to deface the passports of unsuspecting potential travelers in the name of non-appearance disvirgin and these countries turns to punish other immigrants from Nigeria by degrading the country's passport. Oga, it will cost you less than 30k to go on a day return trip to Lome for you to disvirgin your passport yourself and be very confident that the stamps on your passport are genuine and not "oluwole" Let's us all try in our little way to still give some value to the Nigerian passport!
