True,Pathcare is an international company.Nigeria is still upcoming in terms of diagnosis.These guys came into our country to invest. It is the same way we hv most prestigious hospitals in Lag being owned by foreign doctors,with their board of directors being foreigners.That doesn't make our doctors incompetent.
The setting of the teaching hsptl is prouldy ''Nigerian'',hence it's use as an example.Hence when we speak,we use the teaching hsptl setting as our guide because that was where we recieved our training,and not foreign countries.We can NEVER be like the Americans....i hope u'll be a lil bit realistic and accept that!

His answer was that the job isn't stressful.They hv much time on their hands and it pays..pathologists have no shame.They expect the scientist to do the brunt of the work and they take the credit.Terrible!

Their lagos office it at Ikeja,directly opposite Shoprite.They share the same compond wif Nigerian Civil Defence.
Requirements are
1) yourself
2) flawless fingers prints i.e if u hv a cut or injury on ur fingers ,therefore altering ur prints,u will be disqualified.(abeg no go cut vegetable oooo)
3) go with a valid ID card eg student,workplace etc. If u do not hv any,go with birth certificate or any other means of identification.

If you trained in UNTH, UCH, Calaber, or Vom, you'll know your dear MLT or MLS jobs are winding down, so fast and so rapid that there is no need sitting around, making noises, and pretending to be what you were never trained for one day!

When doctor device these tests, perfect, and win Noble prizes then they teach technicians how to perform it, and in many cases help you interpret it. What don't you understand about it From Louis Pastuer in bacteriology, to Erlich in Chemistry, to Charles Drew in Blood bank, and now to Watson in DNA analysis---->all were doctors. And you going to sit there and claim that doctors are not well trained ---to run the tests they designed and perfected--only in Nigeria!

In Nigeria, nobody is asking about automating the the system better, everybody wants more money, respect, larger offices. I once told a friend of mine at UCH that the hematology analyzer(coulter counter) was an older version, he stated that they(scientists) fought so hard to prevent a faster, more reliable, and larger capacity unit from being installed. Another class mate at UNTH labs even said they had purposely destroyed similar machines in the past.

You guys can sit at your NAMLSS conferences and misdirect yourselves about how doctors are killing you, but it's the wrong fight.
Here in the US, the technologist as they proudly like to be called is perfecting his skills with computer and other machines that they are making themselves indispensible. You guys forget that at the end of the day, everything will be based on market forces, not how loud you are, or what an uninformed judge said.
I wish I can teach one or two of you loud mouth a few lessons in reality.

marylandcakes: The measurements should be 250g for each peel and yes you can use ground cinnamon. The Orange liqueur is a spirit and acts as a preservative like any other alcohol. so it can only be substituted for a different spirit like rum, sherry, brandy. But then you will loose the concentrated citrus flavour you are trying to acheive.

thepathologist: i think u have difficult in interpreting the judgement. the issue is about department of med lab science. note that pathologists have been heading pathology departments viz haematology, chemical pathology,microbiology,immunology and morbid anatomy many years before advent of med lab science in nigeria. what court is saying now is for creation of dept of med lab science so that you guys will have sense of belonging. my take is that u cannot arrogate lab to urself. if arrogance of med lab sc continue what will happen is duplication of lab services. and who will pay? govt. because pathologists are licenced to run full laboratories while clinicians including nurses are licenced run side labs. that is fact. get it to ur head.
