They didn't know. They have to do the necessary cleansing rituals although one of the students MUST die that is if the traditional rites of forgiveness of ignorance are carried out. Worse if not carried out, It's also like this in my delta central. When it happened in my town, it was a big python patrolling the communities during festive season and after he finished, the python came to pay homage to the king only for workers to see it in the kings forest and ignorantly killed it, enclosed it in a sack and still foolishly brought it to show the king that they killed a snake that wanted to attack one of his fish ponds. The king was so disappointed because he was expecting the visitor as it usually is during festive season, the guys 3, 2 of them died that week and 1 was hospitalized I think he later died. If you find your self in a community ask about the dos and donts. Don't always be a stupid fanatic of foreign religion killing any animal you see.

You make sense. Well said But the community cannot take a life in exchange. They should find other ways. This shouldn't be a death penalty issue. Human life is sacred too.
Culture / Re: Students Who Killed Our Sacred Python Are In Grave Danger – Owerri Chief Priest by GermanMelania: 11:37am On Aug 03, 2021
You guys are so ridiculous. If a people tell you to respect a personal animal in thier community you respect the sanctity of life preservation. If it was some foreign govt telling you not to kill bald eagles you will be here praising thier progressiveness. Here you are mocking a people regardless of WHY they tell you not to kill an animal. Err on the side of caution and respect. Animals want to live too. If this python was killing people left and right the community eouldnt tolerate them so ask them how to properly deal with the snakes or leave thier community.

Maybe discredit the president??

Some people have reason to. So the entire corona and medical examiner (who are licensed doctors) office in each county and each state banded together to lie and count each death as Corona? Think about what you are saying

Each local council area and each LGA decided to band together and then got eavh state governor to go along with it that no nigerian is hungry. Everyone has gotten food package.

Think about it. The amount of compliance needed.

If anything the. U.s is underreporting corona deaths not over.

Not true. In fact people that die at home or on the streets are not tested or counted as covid. The u.s may have stumbled on this covid issue but they are not making up deathsl numbers. They have no reason to.

I get you now what you mean by clustering. In that context, if you wait for people to die before you KNOW, then i'm afraid the disease will be long gone by then. Don't forget a good number will fall sick and not require hospitalization. If you can't keep ur ears on the ground to identify those when it occurs and wait for deaths, then the situation will end up worse than other countries I assure you. The case in Niger state FMC I referenced earlier is good example. The woman came into the hospital coughing. The medical staff were afraid to go near her due to the coughing. By the time they were prepared to go near, she had died. I hope you realize the disease has gone really far in her system before the family decided to take her to the hospital maybe after trying some homemade medications for some days and seeing no improvements. That's what i'm talking about.

Isolation cant work for us. But cordoning off entire neighborhoods can. We need to take a look at local solutions. We can't use skin tanning lotions because it is fashionable in the west.

I hear you but we do not have the hospital capabilities for what you are suggesting.
If covid takes a hold people will die.
This is why i do not believe it is as rampant just yet. Ebola is more deadly but less virulent but it was tackled. Corona can be tackled as well.
We just cannot do the social isolation thing based on our cultural structure. There is no electricity to store food for 2 weeks. There is no money to buy food for 2 weeks.
If you want people to stay put you have to provide food.
My fear is same as how everyone was diagnosed with hiv and we expected mass deaths that never happened. So they decided there was another less deadly strain. The western blot was giving false positives and in order to get funding people were diagnosed with an illness they did not have. Recently some Caribbean university looked at blood samples and said 81% ( i honestly forget) or so did not have the malaria antibody in nigeria. Yet every illness people treat for malaria with no tests.

First we don't have nursing homes in Nigeria in the sense that they have it over there. Next, a lot of middle and lower class people won't report to an hospital for "common" fever, cough and sneezing. They'll simply go OTC or even herbal in the case of most elderly people.
So, it's hard to really hear what you're expecting because there's no cluster in the real sense in Nigeria save for maybe the markets.
This lockdown is our most effective weapon but our govt is bungling it just like they did for border closure. Imagine the index cases for Katsina and Niger came from Lagos. That of Kano from FCT. Two places on total lockdown!! If buhari was a serious president, both buratai and adamu should be out of office by now.

Goodness. Yes i know we do not have nursing homes. However we have groups who hang out together. We are very interconnected. I do not agree that we can achieve a lockdown.
Like i stated earlier. There are markets. There are many densly packed living conditions. You keep saying cough and sneezing. I am talking about people dying
There are no clusters in nigeria? Lol. Okay. Im done here. We are nothing but clusters! Even folk loitering the streets.
Motorparks.
Face me i face you. /shared common area housing
Markets
Multi family housing apartment units
Churches
Mosques
Family compounds
Underbridge/ people of no fixed address.

We even have badly managed health and underlyinh conditions.
Just like ebola is identified through death. We will KNOW when clusters of folk die. I can't explain this any further.

Our capacity for this thing is very limited. The testing we're talking about, at first we were using reagents which means it can only be done in a lab. Now we're using those donated by the Chinese who have been a culprit in this mess.

I just suppose the weather and our exposure to chloroquine as kids is our deal breaker and of course relatively young population. But in terms of management, we're lagging far behind

. Even if we do not test. Take a look at nursing homes in. The u.s. sometimes 30+ people died. That is a cluster. We should see that in nigeria. Without testing. It won't take 10 years. But weeks. Trump touted chloroquine based on his interests. Also they think it only works if taken in the early stages. Maybe we have some kind of immunity. I do not think som i honestly don't know what is going on. Other than we are not seeing cluster deaths.
Lets hear that 30 older meat men/women at 1 market all got sick and died. Then we have reasons to be very afraid. We haven't even had a bunch of old prominent people die. Remember we only have about 500 ventilators. Mostly in lagos abd even 1 in 2 people put on a ventilator will die. But cultures differ. Data out of china is different from italy that has an aging population and both are different from u.s data.

Ppl have died due to this coronavirus and it was not known. One just happened yesterday in Bida, Niger state. If you have anyone there ask them. The woman coughed till she died. It's after her death they took her sample for testing and they're still awaiting the results.

Lets wait and see results? Not only coro de give cough. Before coro we for say na village people.

Like you said this happened in Bida we will hear more of it if and when coro spreads.
Just remember the first ekiti people. The "white American" guy was inconclusive. Yet he died Then his naija educated female was negative. But the uneducated driver was positive. I am just saying. That was fishy. Gov makinde fishy. Only him negative in 7 days.

It is left for employees and their employer to agree on pay.

China with all their production still import food. The amount they spend on importing food yearly should be way bigger than your entire budget.

Nice food is supposed to be a right not a privilege

We have the highest paid politicians in the world here. You should not blame the rest of the world for the way you run your country

I can't argue with you. Nice food is a right but livable wages aren't? Forced labour of children is fine? Kontinue. Maybe read wikileaks. I wish we were allowed to run our country the wey we like. What are you selling except crude oil that they should buy from you?

I know some of you just eat anything to exist but some of us love eating our favorite..,..we are not just eating to exist but to enjoy life

Eat your children's future.

You are not wrong. But we sell raw materials that is used to produce a lot of end products. Without Congo you wouldn't have that phonr in your hand. But they force kids and pay them slave labour. Diamonds de but debeers controls the market. Is there anything wronf paying better wages? They pay slave labour then charge so much for the end product they send bavk to us to buy. Essentially economic rape.

Let me give you an example
Google had a small project they had people around the world do. They would pay $125.
When people in naija finished they only paid $75. When contactef google had the nerve to say thry paid based on purchasing power.
But when we buy their products we pay same as western world and they do not factor in PPP then.

This is the issue with capitalism. And we need to continue to fight hard. And not just keep buying products. Make them build a factory and emply workers. Pay well. Not just allow them to cart away raw materials at slave prices. We produce the cocoa used for most chocolates. Yet we are not paid sustainably. Things need to change. But we still have protected British children in power.

You have food but yet your monthly minimum wage cannot afford two bags of rice?
The reality is that people are not eating or looking for other alternative that is not their favorite because of inflation

But you don't have to eat rice. Or imported rice. ( i hate to even say that as food should be a pleasure)

Rice isn't the most nutritious either.
Everytime you order imported you are sending money abroad to people who already have more than you. Until our leaders learn to negotiate trade agreements where the other country buys back from us instead of just infrastructure loans and we do our part buying as local as possible that 2 bag of rice salary will not change.

Can they find a way of importing them to Africa instead of destroying them?

With the way things will start going this week, NCDC will start getting their confirmed cases mixed up, thinking that the deaths recorded are COVID-19, not knowing that majority of the deaths are from HUNGER-20.
And we know that when one is severely hungry, it can manifest with different symptoms. Too much hunger can show the combination of symptoms of Ebola Corona and HIV in just one manifestation.

You just think "africa" should be a dumping ground. The milk has to be processed within 48 hours. There are no extra trucks to carry the milk. "Africa" produces enough food however most of it is lost because we dont have good preservation and distribution. You keep wondering why things are not gettibg better in "africa' but want to import rubbish. This is how the clothing industry was destroyed. East african countries trief to outlaw used clothing but american and other countries with intesrests in selling used clothing would not free their govts to act accordingly. Kokoro ti ounje efo... finish it.

This has been suggested. But we do not yet have data or science to back it up. Sometimes things are endemic to a certain area. Africa is weird like that.
Why is LASSA not ravaging lagos like it does Edo and other states?
We also know lagos has the most Corona came through lagos due to travel
Bbc did a story on how 99% of prostitutes in Italy were from Edo state. They didnt understand the difference between state of origin as it relates to ancestry versus where someone was born and raised. They couldnt even underetand it could just be a few people started the business of importing girls from Edo and it grew from there. We have to understand the underpinnings of why things are. So i am not going to just say it is a climate thing with no data to back it up.

That's just it. Testing or not it is not a silent disease. Bodies will pile up. 20,000k bodies in a month in the u.s. where will you hide the bodies? We will hear of interconnected prominent people dying or a group of people from the same market. That is how it was identified in Wuhan. We haven't seen that.

We don't have death clusters. If covid was rampant we would see more deaths. We haven't. This thing isn't just affecting poor people. I think we are doing mostly okay. For whatever reason ot is just not spreading. When we start seeing people collapsing on the street or dying alone at home we will know ncdc lied to us. And right now there is nothing to suggest this is happening.
