Nnamdipapa: My submission is still valid. I have no business with the experience of the vast majority. But it surprises me why Nigerians who once lived abroad have this sort of mentality - so far e no affect me directly, nothing concern me. How then do we get a country where things work for the vast majority of people? Honestly, such a mentality is terrible and doesn't argur well for a group of people anywhere in the world. ceejayluv: That there is the difference in attitude between our leaders and Western/ developed nations' leaders. Apparently, one doesn't have to be a leader to develop such an attitude. No wonder there is a big cultural gap between native citizens of developed countries and developing countries. This development of a thing seems to be cultural than economic. Thus, some places would never become "truly developed". |

Angelfrost: That choice would be down to wealth and influence...!
Many people leaving the country and those living comfortably abroad would rather live in Nigeria if the country were even the way pdp left it in 2015.
Yet, there are poor people abroad, even poorer than Nigerians living in Nigeria, who won't want to live anywhere else other than their home nations even for more money. I have said it time and again, that if insecurity wasn't as bad as it became under Buhari, up to half of those that have migrated, would still be here. Also, should the economy be like that 2012/pre-2015, many Nigerians in the abroad would gladly return immediately. I said this to my friend in Canada who told me the weather in his region has been - 30 degree Celsius. Terrible! 5 degrees here and I'm not happy. Then na - 30 Heck, in the years leading to 2015, many Nigerians in the diaspora were returning en-mass - getting employed by thriving companies and setting up their businesses. Buhari and his crude supporters wrecked the country's economy and destroyed the social fabric. |

RodgersAkpafu: We like this one leg in the west one leg in Africa thing that does not work and doesn't make sense I agree that this is not feasible especially for older migrants as building any enterprise or career takes time. So dividing attention here and there with the aim to achieve greatness is very unrealistic. However, if home presents economic opportunities, I can understand why many want to partake in such. Also, we seem to love home very well and understand that being in the abroad is a means to an end, not the end. Maybe this could change for the present generation. My own is the weather. I no like winter environment. We also like I better pass my neighbours mentality That's why we are still struggling
as repugnant and terrible as Indians behave, and their yama yama cultural proclivities and lack of emotional intelligence in dealing with other groups, one thing I do give them credit for is their ability to pool resources together and practice delayed gratification
But that has come in part, at a cost of "slummifying" and "ghettorising" certain places Also another major factor, but this can be mitigated within ethnic circles. It is unrealistic for every Nigerian to collaborate, but it is possible for those within ethnic groups to do the same. Humans are tribal. So members within an ethnic group should look out for the other. A reason behind the non-collaboration could because of the presence of blacks in the UK/general West. In regions with fewer black people, nobody go tell person to collaborate with the closest black person you see (provided cultural similarities are ironed out smoothly). Is Peckham not the same as Brampton or Bradford? |

If you earn 1,000,000 per month in UK, I can assure you are spending 800k on bills. Rent (pro-rated), electricity bills, fueling, transport costs and health wouldn't gulp up to 200K for the typical ~1M naira earner in Lagos (where such salaries are possible)? P.S. As Ednut stated, getting sex isn't hard for a Nigerian woman regardless of where she resides. In fact, this applies to ALL women. In the Nigerian case for those in the abroad, the men are even in dire need of sex than the women. The preek of the average Nigerian man, regardless of location, is the cheapest commodity to get.
There's a reason why compared to men, women are demisexual. It's men that need sex more than women due to excess testosterone and more so for black men as prostate cancer would be prevented. |

So because white people - owners of the land - do it, immigrants should do it as well? E don become something to emulate? BTW, the biggest perpetrators of child molestation are white men and they are always paraded by the police. The question is: why are the authorities lenient on this specific issue? |

Taking away these uninhabitable parts, Australia is still sparsely populated. The Brits were not worried about the amount of habitable land when they came over and the Australians media didn't have so many issues when it was Brits coming in. Most Brits I see have relatives resident in Australia or Canada- its normal for them and the Canadian or Australian media hardly complained about this. Part of the human tribalism you mentioned earlier. @Your picture, South Asia, especially India, and China no be here o. Remove Nigeria and Ethiopia, Africa isn't that densely populated. jedisco: A common narrative is how migration is the reason for the housing crises.
Nobody choruses that U.S is overpopulated yet they have about 330 million people. Australia with a landmass just slightly to the U.S only has 26 million inhabitants. Yet, it's immigrants that are to blame for house prices Over 60% of Australians own their home. How many of them would not vote out a government that causes house prices to crash. Locals would block every house building initiative and turn around to blame migrants. Estate developers buy up and hoard land around cities and refuse to build. They'd call in land banking. They only build at the rate at which they can sell at their set prices. Same story in Canada and the UK.
The mortgage industry forms a bedrock of the economy of these nations. Imagine the economic output if quality houses could be built at scale. Jobs would be created, house prices and rents would become more affordable, gdp would rise and people would invest in other parts of the economy rather than buying up land. But no, everybody wants to secure their retirement and inheritance on the value of their home To be fair to Australia, most of it is deemed unhabitable or economically dead. The same applies to Canada. And yes, I agree with the narrative that citizens, especially older ones, form NIMBY movements which restricts construction of newer houses. Suddenly everyone runs with the narrative that immigrants caused rents to increase. Good to see that another Nairalander has agreed that humans are tribal in nature. |

Another thing is many blacks are still poor or at par with the average whites. But many of the Indians and Pakistani are rich and own real estate. They have used their community might to systematically buy houses, gas stations , hotels, supermarkets etc. Na there the wahala dey. 😂

But as someone who lived in the UK for a while where there are more Nigerians than elsewhere in Europe, why haven't we replicated the same? Once they target an area they would buy out all the white people there and make it a mini india or Pakistan. Can see the far right people coming for them in recent times It seems a "little India or Pakistan" is worse than a "little Nigeria". If not, why are they not picking on on our people in the UK and other parts of the West? Could it be the smaller numbers compared to South Asians or the grave effect of being accused as racists owing to the global influence of African Americans? |

Shameless men, you mean. If woman no like me, I no dey force myself. I cannot force a lady to a date. The annoying thing in OP's and many Nigerian men's own is wooing a lady privately, then insulting her publicly. Migration by study isn't cheap unfortunately. It used to be for the rich and upper middle class then but now every dick and Harry is now studying. I'm active in a Nigerian church in Ontario and I have seen a lot. The other day in church someone came to me with accommodation problem, I initially thought he hasn't seen anyplace to rent since he is just 1 month in the country. They manipulate the men with title-calling (odogwu) and Igbo man being proud and loud, the hailing of Odogwu swells his head and he empties his pocket for the woman. The Igbo woman's arrogance and over- petting is why theu have highest ratio of feminism movements and house-help beating in Nigeria. South South women and South West and Middle Belt Christians may want money, but they don't know how to skill-fully and craft-ly understand you to extract money from you.
Igbo women are too witty and crafty. You have to up your street-sense mode to better them in their game sense. If she leaves you for being "stingy", at least she left you with your money with you. Interesting thread.
I have two female friends who are teachers. One in Abuja and the other in Port-harcourt. Although, both don't teach mathematics, but I could sense from our conversations that they admit/know that math teachers earn the highest in the industry. My friend who got a fully funded master's scholarship to a Canadian university was an entry-level math teacher at one of the top secondary schools in the state where he earned the highest salary and got free accommodation. I once contracted a math tutor who taught at the same school and he attested that math teachers are offered preferential treatment and earn very well. Plus, they have side-gigs to earn more. Additionally, I recall a conversation I had with a lass who worked at a secondary school in Ikeja and told me that teachers with MSc earned 150K. But they weren't math teachers.
In summary, no good and qualified (relevant certifications) math teacher in Abuja should earn less than 150K per month as an entry-level staff. |
