VanuatuWycombe:
China only recently started sanctioning the US from December 2024 and it is on American Defense System.
China only ADVISED its citizens not to ‘consume’ certain US software services, in the past.

US started the trade war through sanctioning. It took the fight to China’s doorsteps which led China to banning some American software because America too cannot say it’s not collecting Chinese people’s data.

There is nothing the US does that China doesn’t have its own version. China also has the population to consume what it does - wether software, app, hardware, products or services.

China has other markets which the US has lost or doesn’t have due to the US’s arrogance.

So, it the US that drew the first blood.

There’s a Netherlands company (ASML) that has the tech to manufacture nano chips in the whole world. It’s the only company that has proprietary knowledge (till date) and the US mandated the company not to sell chips to China. Don’t forget that China needs chips in all electronic productions. There are lots of sanctions like that because China was manufacturing as scale and was making the US products at cheaper rate than America can do. Why do you think Donald Trump is trying to sanction Canada with 25% more on tariffs? It’s because of China because China has been establishing in Canada, which is closer to the US, under new company registrations. Such companies are no longer seeing as Chinese companies but Canadian companies. The same thing is happening in Mexico. China is a master strategist, in world trades and manufacturing. As at 2020, China ALONE manufactured over 36% of US products. It could have gone down a little now though. There are some other percentages being manufactured elsewhere like Latin America, Canada and Europe, India, Israel or other Far East Asian countries like Vietnam, Malaysia etc. That’s when the US discovered its life is in the hands of China. After the travel ban was lifted, American ports witnessed surge in shipments arrivals and in a day more than 200 largest ships in the world could be waiting to berth at JUST ONE US’s Western port.

It’s Covid 19 that exposed the US that it’s no longer global leader beside(s) China. The whole global supply chain came to a halt because China could not manufacture or ship. It’s the Americans that would pay for the sanctions and high tariffs because it’s not easy to quickly start setting up gigantic factories like those in China now, in the US. It will take years and more public debts for the US. What China (and probably, Russia) is/are trying to crack up is the SWIFT banking technology being used in sending and authorizing payments worldwide. It’s part of what led to the birth of BRICS. America knows it’s using its Dollars to hold the world economy down and it knows once China is able to develop its own world payment and banking system, the game is over because America has great influence on the Cooperative ownership of SWIFT system. China has more countries under its belt than the US. China ’owes’ all Arabian-Asian countries. It owes Africa, greater parts of Eastern Europe, some parts of Western Europe ( because it manufactures a lot for European companies), and a chunk of American companies. It’s growing at least 10% every year. Forget about what the western economists and their media houses report at 5-7% every year. That % is never a bad one though but China’s growth percentage is more than that. So, if China is able to develop its own world payment systems, it would pull the plug off the US. I hope you travel to the US and China then compare the two countries from economic and production angles.
I had to quote all. Thank you very much. Our people are so cooked by US propaganda, which is not surprising as we're an Anglophone nation and historical reasons such as slavery and the likes. You have summarised everything. The West led by the US wouldn't be able to win this Cold War this time around. The Chinese are too business pragmatic and have the Global South locked in.

I am not surprised many Chinese businesses have used Canada as a loophole to ship to the US - Hongcuver Vancouver - has a lot of ethnic Chinese through which businesses can latch on to have their bases in Canada and export to the US.

As for factories and manufacturing, Western countries cannot defeat China. It is not just possible. The alternative would have been to shift factories to Africa but for some inexplicable reasons, the West has refused to do this, rather they shift factories to South East Asia - countries that are culturally aligned to China. Even if factories are shifted to Africa, Chinese businesses would set up factories in Africa as they have done in Vietnam and Malaysia in a bid to ship to the US.

Anyone who says the TikTok ban isn't geopolitical is simply a liar, no ifs or buts. Huawei faced worse than this. Yet today, Huawei has bounced back.

Let's be real and drop talk @Ger.rard59

The real issue here is the economic decline and standards of living dropping across Europe which is a fallout of the neoliberalism that had arrested the west for the last 4 decades

Historical precedence show that right wing parties gain traction when the economy is hard
Agreed.

People are struggling
energy prices have gone through the roof
wage stagnation since 2008
austerity of the tories since 2010 which has decimated public services
The West cannot compete with an emerging China and other Asian nations. They want such countries to remain subservient, which is not possible. Also, the energy prices is self-inflicted where elites forgo a cheap energy source such as coal then oil and gas in favour of intermittent wind and solar. At the same time, they oppose nuclear. Imagine praising a miscreant such as Greta?! shocked I am glad Japanese politicians realised their folly and have vowed to restart all the reactors. A major country (as defined by landmass and population) needs cheap and consistent energy sources to power the economy. The West says no to this. See Canada restricting oil drilling and installations. Wage stagnation is caused by an economy that is not diversified, as in the case of the UK. I have no idea about other European nations. As for housing crises, again, the fault of the elites who support pensioners who view housing as an investment rather than for living. Okay, that is appropriate but why support NIMBY ideologies and movements that oppose the construction of taller and more buildings? They do this so that the values of current properties keep rising, but this makes the younger generation not being able to climb the property ladder.

I believe in pragmatism, if a policy does not work, change it immediately and focus on economic prosperity, nothing else. Lovey-dovey does not pay house rents or pay salaries. Anything to drive the economy at full speed is acceptable to me. And oh! Poor UK cancelled China because her master US said so even when the Chinese were investing in the country. Today, they are running back to the Chinese. Na body go tell them. Should India get their acts together, they must be ready to share the world's power and agree say day don break.

Sorry to say but Prodigy finance haven’t extend their services to Japan. I’ve had a lot of things about Japan and I think I like the city. In my case, traveling out of Nigeria is not just an option but an opportunity to build myself and become a better person.

Marketing is a wide niche which encompasses a lot of subdomains that can be practiced either employed or not but the big question remains “how do I plan to pay back?”

From my view, while I study i will still work remotely by pushing my current digital marketing agency. Hopefully, I could have funding to achieve things that are limiting here in Nigeria because of the cost. As a Nigerian, having to budget $20-$30 a week to run a viable business is not an easy task. Committing to a business model without sufficient capital can be frustrating not to mention the high costs of living.
Are the majority of your clients Nigerian/African? Do you have foreign clients who pay in USD? Since your expenses are in USD, it makes business sense to have USD clients. If the degree is for learning purposes or personal gratification (there is nothing wrong with this—it was one of mine), then go for it. But I strongly recommend you try to enrol in a specific and targeted marketing program, especially the one with strong ties to major employers.

Getting a job depends on the host country's economy and visa policies for international students. As for recent graduates, focus on international/foreigners, not citizens. Ask as many as possible. I believe the calibre of schools (sorry, I am too ranking obsessed sha) by Prodigy Finance would do justice to attract employers, but the overall state of the economy and visa policies supercede it.

or at least a residence permit or something more tangible than just a perper certificate that hundreds of thousands of others roaming the street also have? How long will it take you to repay the loan even even if you get an entry level job abroad after? Wouldn't it be more practical to use that loan (most likely a much smaller amount ) to relocate through reputable agencies (I'm sure you may know 1 or 2) either for job or strictly emmigration rather than study route?
Just my thoughts though, pardon me for derailing the topic.
This is the Dubai and South Africa aspect I mentioned. Check Morgan Mckinley, Michael Page, Robert Walters and numerous specialist recruitment agencies with offices in both places. Submit your CV and have them call you. They will call you if it matches the jobs they have to offer. You don't have to pay, and should not pay any recruitment agency. The agency gets paid by the employing organisation. It is in their interest to match you to jobs since they get paid for it. You don't have to pay. However, there is no guarantee though as the employing organisation has the final right to employ or not, not the agency.

"recruitment agencies for marketing jobs in dubai" - Google Search.
TravelRe: Does Prodigy Finance Loan Worth It? by Gerrard59(m): 4:54am On Jan 17, 2025
I once sent an email to Prodigy Finance when I planned to study abroad. I did my search on the website and saw no Japanese university, not even the revered University of Tokyo. Anyway, I asked if it covers universities in Japan, and the response was they are still covering more schools. The model of Prodigy Finance is heavily reliant on immigration policies that enable foreign postgraduate students to find jobs (good jobs) in the host universities' countries.

To its model credit, PF (for short) only enlists the top universities in the countries it covers, and rightfully so. What you as the applicant have to is to study the job/career opportunities for graduates of your intended course and most importantly, the post-school work policies of your intended country. All countries are not the same. So, it is not just the loan, but the ability to repay the loans. Remember, the loans are in pounds (since it is the UK) and run for a decade or so. The question is: if you cannot find a good job in the UK (your target), what alternatives do you have to be able to repay the loans? Would your current business/job be able to finance the loan in the future even if you return to Nigeria (I presume you reside there)?

Recently, the Economist reported on MBA employment figures in the US, and the percentage plunge by many top schools was startling.
For citizens, they can extend their loans' payment duration, the loans are in their currencies, they can always live in the country indefinitely etc. For many immigrants such as Indians and our people, it becomes difficult. So, for this reason, check the universities to know their RECENT foreign alumni job trajectories.

As I stated in the sociology thread, studying abroad is good, but funding is equally important. Sure, everyone doesn't come from the same background, but I believe things should be easier, or a little bit easier, going forward rather than continual suffer-head here and there. It was part of the reasons I stuck with my intention to study in Japan because, from my research, there were more scholarships in the system than outside. The MEXT scholarship by the Japanese government is uber-competitive such that the only folks with 2.1. I have met are those we call "strong 2.1.", from federal universities and have cognate research experience. This applies to almost every African I have met who is sponsored by the MEXT - they finished top of their classes in their respective home universities. So, I did not bother to compete with them. I made a list of scholarships available to graduate students in my then university, applied to them as they were published and got two generous ones. At a point, the reviewing board jokingly told me to stop applying.

Mind you, I am not saying you should choose Japan, please don't as marketing will involve speaking Japanese. But I am saying you should do your hard research on the job market, rate the ease of foreign graduates to find good jobs and the immigration policies in your country of choice. Alternatively, with your years of experience, target jobs in Dubai and maybe South Africa. From there, you get foreign experience (on-site this time) and further build your career. While along, take elective abi short-courses within your field to build on your knowledge base.

Another thing to consider is how to convince the visa official you will return to Nigeria since it is a foreign financial firm that is sponsoring your studies via a dollar/pound denominated loan.

Number 1: Fluctuating market price, you can buy #20 per kilo in the village and the next 30 minutes you get to town to sell and they tell you it has dropped to #18

Number 2: Quality of the cocoa, farmer won't allow you to test but by the time you get to where to sell, you can be hearing of moisture content and all that

Number 3: 90% of both farmers and buying agents are dubious. There is no way you will do cocoa business without giving cash in advance for them to help you source for product and many at times they run with your money
Thanks for the response. Number 3 is what I was discussing with a schoolmate a few days ago. How to circumvent the process because the business would involve cash payments. Number 1 is largely associated with commodities, so no surprise. This business requires a large warehouse and huge initial capital.

Any outlet to know those folks from Cell & Genetics? With this new development, C&G have produced three 5.0 CGPA graduates - more than any other department. If this continues for a decade, then it defeats or questions the belief that quant based courses are easier to attain stellar grades.

I repeat, in quality of life, US does not come close to the two countries you mentioned above..
The majority of Nigerian migrants seek economic prosperity. Quality of life isn't on the list. When migrants move into a place, what they seek are jobs - so they earn an income - and later career opportunities to build on their skill set and increase their income. Quality of life isn't a priority.

I have no business with Austrians having a superior quality of life compared to Americans. I am concerned with Nigerians heading out of Nigeria in search of a better life aka economic prosperity.

Thanks, and agreed. Pandering to certain subgroups out of fear or favour will seriously undermine social cohesion. The West has made a huge mistake allowing mass migration of cultures that are not only unaligned with, but will never assimilate with and hate the native values. And one logical consequence of that is the growth of the far-right.

TV
That is something I hope to write on in the coming days. It is odd to complain about the rise of the far-right when the present elites - politicians and their lovey-dovey media journalists - keep pandering to groups that don't want to and would never assimilate into the host country's culture. On one hand, you (not "you" in reality) subscribe to weak law enforcement, YET call people who complain about it as racists. On the one hand, you increase immigrants yanfu-yanfu which leads to a demand for houses, YET intentionally refuse to build or increase building permits. Honestly, it sounds like cognitive dissonance. This cannot happen in South Korea or Singapore.

OP,

I see you here again. You better put that money into the Nigerian economy. If you are from the South West, look into trading cocoa as a means to raise capital. If you are from Benue and the South East, do the same, this time focusing on the Cross River/Akwa Ibom/Abia axis. You cannot be asking to migrate to countries with limited funds every eke market day.
