zicoraads:100, 000 is six figures 1, 000, 000 is seven figures. |
An attractive benefit for workers by companies is to offer paid transport to the nearest landmark to the closest station to the company's premises. The problem would be the inconsistencies in prices. Lagos needs a mass train network. Nothing else. |
Some Nigerians are terribly shameless! Tomorrow, you find them defending their lots even when there is a stark evidence of their atrocities. No wonder Nigerians don't have a good reputation in Tokyo. If I say behave accordingly, I'm accused of having low self-esteem. |
Ouchbabe:These are the issues. We cannot complain about the lack of virgin, then close eyes to sexual molestation of teenage girls. The tale was a terrible one. The man is a disgraceful person! No wonder many young ladies don't mind being single. I cannot blame them. Three infections within the last eight months? |
kettykings:Largely true, but our people should learn to focus on these things rather than state that Nigeria's most populous state with the biggest economy is suddenly quiet because Igbos travelled out. |
The videos I saw on Twitter refute that claim. There has been an influx of many tourists into Lagos within the past month. Notable celebrities and social media influencers. These people attract a lot of others to attend any event they grace. Traffic has been hellish in Lagos. Enjoy your festivities in the East and allow others to enjoy theirs. Learn to mind your business for crying out loud! |
Wotowotoman:Typical Nigerian toilet elite mentality. Again, my mom made her wealth in Nigeria. I reply to posts to the best of my ability. If you know better, follow narrate instead of using here to catch so-called cruise. Na so people like you dey do for Reddit. |
temmybaba:If the company or the project is a notable or reputable one, I would say choose it. Work and save almost 75% of your earnings, write internationally relevant/recognised certifications that would enable you to apply to bigger roles in global firms and/or bigger positions/projects/companies while in Nigeria. If you desire further abroad experience, you can apply to jobs in Dubai or elsewhere. This depends on the scope of the project or the reputation/clout of the company in Saudi Arabia. Many people work there to attain some years of international experience which they use to pivot to much more desirable places. It all depends on what you want at the end of the day. The laws in Saudi are even good as they enable you to cut costs and live a much more disciplined lifestyle. |
Wotowotoman:Whether you know Bayo is none of my business. Honestly, it is none of it. Bayo has done well for himself, so I am not fazed whether you know him or not. If you really do know him, then narrate your experiences. Humble myself for a social media miscreant?! The gods forbid! The same narrative una use to run down the country. This is my issue with so-called intellectwats we've. They claim to know it all, but Nigeria is not displaying the result of that "profound knowledge". Oh yes! My mom is rich. I chose Japan and was given the freewill to follow the process while she would pay. So far, I am proud of the choice I made. Lastly, I don't hate Nigeria. I hate how the elites have mismanaged it. |
Wotowotoman:One thing I have noticed about Nairalanders like you is that you never give informed, balanced and honest responses to others' enquiries. You claim to have studied abroad, but the same you become angry when I and others provide informed responses to those who want to study abroad. You claim to have worked in the Big4, but I have never seen where you provided career advice or nuggets gleaned from your experiences at those firms. So, why become angry when others with similar experiences share theirs? Isn't that witchcraft? The other day, you defended Nigerians who break laws in foreign countries. The same you have over a thousand monikers on this Nairaland causing a nuisance in the Food, Romance, Politics and many other sections. If you could cause so much nuisance in the Food section, that shows how terrible of a person you are in real life. You claim to know all and have been to all places, kuku share your experiences make others, especially younger ones, learn. |
Wotowotoman:This is your second moniker you've used to mention me. Unfortunately, I cannot get the article where I read he was "loaned" (that wa the stated word). No dey shout for my mention! As for wealthy Nigerians living in Nigeria, that's obtainable anywhere in the world. I have never stated that people don't make it in Nigeria. My mom made her wealth in Nigeria and so did my ex-boss. In fact, I have defended the belief that Nigeria will generate more wealthy Nigerians than elsewhere. It's basic mathematics. So I don't get your animosity because I stated that Tonye Cole shares his time between Switzerland and Nigeria. Sure, he has real money, which doesn't belong to both of us. No dey put eye for another person wealth. |
The Saudi Arabian investment is highly welcome considering Olam Inc was founded in Kaduna state. After a while, the headquarters was moved to London and then Singapore where Temasek - an investment company owned by the Singaporean government - invested in it. That's one company I applaud Indian-Nigerians of founding - sheer grit and determination to compete against the ABCDs of ago-commodities trading. Tinubu till 2031. Though, I despise the tribal bigotry, he's the best hand available. |
Look for a better country, not Russia. Look for countries where scholarships are bountiful and the tuition fees are lower. I am conversant with Japan as I studied here on generous scholarships and as I stated in this post: https://www.nairaland.com/8275359/burkina-faso-journey-no-return/6#133026287 I don't know any African student who paid FULL tuition fees. The recent one I was told is a Nigerian who got into my erstwhile university as a postdoc earning 6 million yen per annum. Postdoc is hard o, especially after a PhD (he was also fully sponsored), but this is why you should forsake Russia for better options. It must not be Japan, Taiwan, China, South Korea etc,, are there with munificent scholarships. It is your task to find them. |
Jerchance:You have to suspend childbearing for the next four years until your financial situation improves for the better. Presumably, you have only one child now. At the end of the four-year period, you can go for another. But with all prayers and determination, don't go above two children. Raising children is expensive. However, If your wife is close to menopause as it is, you could aim for another. But going forward, do all you can to prevent having plenty of children. I am saying this because having more children than one can ADEQUATELY take care is one of the major causes of poverty in Nigeria. Don't allow Nairalanders to deceive you with lovey-dovey talks. I have been attacked by many for promoting fewer children as if I am responsible for them having lots of children. This life wey we dey so is brutal to a poor married man. Don't worsen things for yourself and old age. Do all you can to have only two children regardless of gender. Could you offer some guidance on how to improve my financial situation? What skills can I learn or what steps can I take to increase my earnings, considering I don't have any savings to rely on?Let's start with this: what can you do effortlessly with little or no training at all? Something you know you can do so well even if you wake up at night. Another: in your line of work, what tasks and skills are necessary to rise the career ladder (promotions) and earn higher salaries? Alternatively, you could do job hopping. Every two to three years, you move to another firm with a much higher salary. All in all, take heed to the aspect of having children. As a married man, that would be your greatest expense before rent, clothing, transport, self-development, in-laws etc. If you noticed, I didn't include entertainment as that is because you won't be able to entertain yourself at all. |
blackbriar:Nigerians are not ready to learn a new language, especially one as hard as Japanese. Two, Indians have been working in Japan as far back as the late 90s and early 2000s. Nigerians don't have a good reputation in Tokyo, This might have changed, I don't know. Moving to Japan is smart of them as they can easily obtain PR in Japan and seek a L1 visa transfer to the US. Also, they can become naturalised, obtain Overseas Indian Certificate and move to Singapore for higher salaries. Yes, if our IT gurus broaden their choices and look at Japan in the short term, they stand to benefit a lot as there are jobs available and the process of moving to Japan on a work visa is as easy as ABC. |
blackbriar:You did not quote my post quite properly. Anyway, I will explain better. Yes, there is a lack of information amongst Japanese firms about the IT talent in Nigeria largely due to cultural differences, the Nigerian community here isn't as cohesive and targeted as the Indian one to position their people at Japanese firms, Indians have greater clout in the global tech industry compared to Nigerians. Japanese fervently follow trends and events in the US and have seen how Indians, not Nigerians, head American companies. Even the Indians who get work visas to work here, check very well, they don't have the profile to enter the US directly from India. So, they target "easier" countries. The best of IT talent go to the US by fire by force. Others get refined in the UK, Germany, Dubai, Singapore, Canada before doing pivoting to the US. Post a japa thread to Japan at Nigerians and check the profiles: the majority of people interested aren't those with IT backgrounds. That is the core issue: the Nigerians who have IT backgrounds would rather target Canada, UK, USA, Germany and even Dubai before Japan. Already, the perception is that obtaining a visa to Japan is hard. Additionally, many Nigerians who japa wish to obtain another citizenship/nationality. The prevailing belief is that Asian nations don't issue naturalisation statuses to foreigners. I have argued with Nairalanders who state that a black person can't be a naturalised Japanese citizen without marrying an ethnic Japanese. Even a MEXT scholar argued the same in the "Nigerians in Japan" Facebook group. However, the law permits naturalisation, but the applicant has to renounce the previous nationality. Indians can renounce and claim the Overseas India certificate/classification. For a Nigerian, that is the end. Many Nigerians aren't prepared to do this, especially those with IT backgrounds. It is a perception issue. This perception can be changed by letting Japanese companies, especially their HR departments, know that there is IT talent in Nigeria. To Nigerian IT gurus, they should take Japan as a means to an end and late pivot to the US/Canada/UK. They should know that obtaining permanent residency is not as hard as peddled online, and this can be done without knowing Japanese. Many don't know this because of the perception issue due to lack of information, misinformation and lack of interest. |
blackbriar:Nigerian IT guys aren't interested in Japan largely because it is too far, of cultural and language differences. The profiles of Nigerian IT gurus who want to japa aren't interested in Japan as a country. Conversely, the profiles of the majority of Nigerians who want to move to Japan don't have the IT profiles needed by Japanese companies. This I can understand, but Japan could be a perfect stepping stone to the US, Canada, UK and Australia where greater interest lies. Secondly, there are many Japanese companies (of various sectors) in India than in Nigeria. Also, many Japanese human resource companies are actively recruiting Indians to work as software engineers in Japan. There is none of such in Nigeria. |
All these government activists na cashvisits. All na hustle. |
OP, I know I am late, but I advise going into cocoa. If you don't make 4X your investment, ask Seun to ban my account. From the look of things, the Ghanaians and Ivoriens are not serious about tackling the problems with their yield, production, prices and exports. As a result, Nigerian and Cameroonian farmers are making a killing out of it. I repeat, go into cocoa. If you don't become a millionaire before 2030, call me a bastard and demand for my account to be banned for eternity. |
Trustyourself:lol His cost of living would be higher and the money he would make can only be in high earning industries such as tech, finance and medicine. Also sales related roles. |
olabrad:🤣🤣🤣🤣 Nairalanders dey give me joy ![]() The bold is true tho. Until young men marry and have children, they would know what it's to be married. |
Acidosis:THANK YOU VERY MUCH SIR! Let people understand economics for once. |
Infotubia9ja:Good you stated for you as there are many Nigerians working outside with their Nigerian degrees. Relevant certifications and valid work experiences from reputable companies in Nigeria contribute. But it is a lie to say Nigerian degrees aren't useful outside the country. As for medical doctors and even lawyers, that is standard across the world because those are country-specific professions. So interested persons must write the qualifying examinations. Even a Harvard Medical School grad must write MDCN qualifying examinations before practicing in Nigeria. The major reason many study abroad is because the study route is the easiest way to leave Nigeria, not entirely because Nigerian degrees aren't useful or accepted. |

holysaint1:Agreed. This narrative that "everyone with cash should open a business" is lopsided. People need to understand how businesses work and companies are structured before starting theirs. With the experience and network, they will grow faster than a tyro who does the same business as them. |
Deeegbee:Spend a minimum of four years on the visa while working and you become eligible. Further details on USICS via Google. P.S. No company will apply for an L1 visa for a junior/entry level employee. |
ednut1:Fair deal, but a US visit visa has no benefit other than the term "visit". |
I read to the end and found the prices shocking. If chicken can cost 28K, then how much for an actual meal? This means the belief that one's $ or £ would go a long way is defeating because prices have shot up by more than 500% most or 1000% in some cases. This means for an extroverted IJGB to really "enjoy" Nigeria, hold like $10K. Jokes aside, if chicken is that costly, how do people survive? Have salaries ballooned alongside prices of goods and services? |
Treadway: ![]() rock86:You cannot connect to the UK because you are not Scottish, English or Welsh and that is okay. You were not born in the UK to culturally assimilate into the country. If you want Naija vibes with Western sanity: - Develop Nigeria to Western standards and retain your cultural vibes. - Go to Brazil. |
ednut1:But why do our people believe a US visit visa can easily be obtained on a UK student permit? Delusions everywhere. ![]() |
Drxxzy:Apply for NIW or work in a company whose headquarters is in the US and apply for L1 visa after say four years. Drxxzy:Another master's program? Why exactly? You people like book o and have plenty money. |
Matrix13790:Sorry, you asked the wrong person. I don't do giveaway. |
