princemaths: who told you it's only South Africa. There are far many African countries better off than Nigeria in entrepreneurship. Do your research Ghana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Mauritius, Angola... The only advantage Nigeria had was population and now that advantage is gone because the hardship is now too much. Benin republic now has a greater GDP per capita than Nigeria. Ewww! Yet those places have a higher unemployment rate than Nigeria. Please don't compare Ethiopia or Angola to Nigeria. The thing with entrepreneurship is that anyone can make it anywhere, but in Africa, the chances are higher in Nigeria than those places you mentioned except maybe Egypt, which I do not see as "Africa". |

princemaths: yes GDP per capital is a way to measure the standards of living of people in a country.
The lower the GDP per capita the poorer the people. If you have any better metric you can state to measure an economy. If you don't then keep quiet.
even the tech you mentioned doesn't give any employment except you're a content creator and that isn't a job. GDP is a lopsided way to assess living standards. You do that with HDI. GDP simply tells how much the citizens are worth based on the wealth it generates. However, for some places, it doesn't translate to a high purchasing power or even tells us how many jobs are available for new graduates. GDP by PPP actually shows the purchasing power of the citizens/residents in a country regardless of the population. China with its slightly lower population has a higher GDP by PPP than India. Nigerians, in fact, I would say some state residents spend more than many African countries' citizens. Tech provides jobs, stable, learning opportunities and permanent than content creation. Content creation isn't tech. By tech, I mean actual jobs in companies within the technology division - software engineering, developers etc. So the posts by @MT are accurate - Nigerian banks pay their tech bros and sis very very well. Those people earn a lot of money. That's not content creation. |

On a purchasing power parity level, naira is useless and can no longer purchase things of value. Put call across to your people in Nigeria and find out what's up Regardless, Nigerians have a higher purchasing power than Somalians. Nigerians have a higher living standards than Gabonese or Equatorial Guineans. |

He had a good rapport with Igbos as Governor of Akwa Ibom. In Nigeria's political sphere, any candidate who Igbos support would lose as other Nigerians would rather for a goat to be the president. Thus, Akpabio cannot be Nigeria's president. Maybe vice, but not the president. |

Congratulations to OP. I am really for you as I know it must have been a huge struggle to pull through.
As for the back-biting, I am not surprised as I have stated here that the older generation in the UK seems to be annoyed or envious (how easy the immigrant routes are these days) of recent migrants. Also, they have this classist mentality that "I have been here before you. So know your place". This is largely mired in poverty as it applies to other migrants from the developing world. Although, a way to counter such is to tighten the immigration system so that only the best and brightest have access to the country. Such as legal immigration to the US and Singapore. Indians in the US are highly respected than their counterparts in Canada.
As for people making it in Nigeria, that is very true. There are people who have very high-paying jobs in Nigeria and live very well (legal money). However, their conditions cannot be used to describe the entire Nigeria. I recall my ex-boss lamenting about Nigeria's politicians, people he praised regularly when he used the roads to his state or somewhere in Kogi. He was shocked at how dangerous the roads were. This is someone who rarely leaves Lagos without flying. This is the same mistake this new set of elites make every day - siddon for Lagos and Abuja then christen everyone in Nigeria as "doing well". To be fair though, I don't expect any less from APC supporters. The reason I don't debate the state of Nigeria with them. Although, I still believe Nigeria holds more entrepreneurial economic opportunities than most countries in Africa aside from South Africa. However, it is important to state that Nigeria goes beyond Lagos and Abuja at least for economic reasons.
The last two years must have been tough for Nigerian students in the UK (especially older ones who are married and with children). As I have stated countless times, should the economy get to pre-2015 levels, MANY Nigerians would gladly return. Many would still return anyway but at a later date. Reading their stories further makes me to be grateful towards the Japanese. I was so pampered and afforded ample financial and economic opportunities here. To be fair though, I had the requisite experience from Nigeria, attended a top university here, worked on the language and I am unmarried with no children. Nevertheless, the Japanese have been so good to me, and I deeply appreciate it. |

Once you say anything bad about the economy, they run coming out to defend their master. Trust me, it is futile debating Nigerian economy or the state of the country with APC supporters, especially those at the top of the value chain. They are blindfolded to the true state of Nigeria. In his defence, @MT made good points by assessing on an individual basis, but on a general note, the APC has destroyed the country's economy ever since 2015. That is a fact. That they don't accept this should not be surprising. It is part of the requirements to be a supporter and member. |

lastkingsman: Nigeria is finished. Your gdp per capita is now 850 USD per capita, Somalia is 643 USD in comparison and it will only get worse once all these loans Tulumbu is getting start maturing. To be fair, GDP per capita isn't a comprehensive way to assess a country's economy. It's so sad you are here yapping about outliers in Nigeria economy. How many people work in the sector you mentioned? Agreed. The tech sector should never be used as a basis to assess employment opportunities in any country. It is why many countries still focus on the manufacturing industry to be stable, growing and being able to create jobs for many people. Tech cannot offer the employment opportunities millions of Nigerians need. So Nigeria starts and ends in Lagos island? What sort of foolishness is this? A major problem I have with this new set of "elites" in Nigeria - the country starts in Lagos (Lagos Island, Lekki, VI, Ikeja GRA) and ends at Abuja (Guzape, Maitama etc). There is more to Nigeria beyond both places. |

OboOlora: There is tribalism amongst Nigerians living in UK and there is racism towards Nigerians from other Africans and Jamaicans than even the Whites. I am not surprised. The natives are not usually discriminatory than immigrants from developing world. I can imagine the same in Canada. Also, no matter what you do, please do NOT get care COS. Your wife can get it but never you! Also only allow your wife to get it if you are sure she has sense and she wont change it for you later, most men are now in dilemma cos the wives are using that power of COS against them. When it's time for mortgage too, make sure U buy alone and not joint with your partner except you are VERY VERY sure she is not like 98% of the Nigerian women in the UK. A word is enough for the wise o. Interesting. I have always been of the notion that a man should do certain things for himself or attain them by his accord/merit rather than depend on a woman. That way, his dignity and pride remain intact. Also, it is prideful to have attained them by merit in a far-away land. |

Gerrard59: Good day everyone,
A review on Seplat's GT recuritment.
I decided to write this review not because I applied for Seplat’s graduate trainee program, but because I believe it is important for future applicants and anything relating to Seplat’s recruitment. First, there is a test by Dragnet (only verbal), then another by HCP (abstract, logical and quantitative – no calculator is allowed). Then the assessment centre where you get to present any project of yours (work or school based) in MS PowerPoint format to the panellists (made up of both HCP & Seplat staff). It is important to keep to time as much as possible. The assessment centre also had group discussion where you are given a case study to analyse and report. Just like the PP presentation, groups should adhere to time.
This is where people fail the most – assessment centre (other than tests’ stage). Candidates were competing with one another when it ought not to be so. You don’t compete in an assessment centre! No matter what. To an extent they were behaving like market women trying to lure customers. My Ibibio people will say “idoho ntoro” (it is not so). It is necessary everyone practices a mock assessment centre (an assessment centre is not an interview oh). Everyone at this stage is brilliant, I met lads with first class from good institutions; University of Aberdeen, University of Ghana, Imperial College London, FUTO, Covenant, UofBristol etc. So you see? At an assessment centre stage, everyone is brilliant. The least CGPA I saw was 4.1/5!
Additionally, due to Buhari’s visit to Lagos on Thursday (following day was Good Friday), persons had to wake up very early to get to the venue somewhere deep in Lekki. One even trekked along Eko Bridge! Another had a long but certainly unforgettable journey back to Ibadan. Lesson: Come at least a day to Lagos and the venue before your interview. Like a lad did from Kaduna and another from Ibadan. Furthermore, after the assessment center, successful candidates were called for yet another interview slated for 40 minutes. Where they will be asked questions regarding competence, leadership, their preferred department and course (technical questions, more like). The interview had water gulpers. Lads and lasses drank lots of water, apparently, because the questions were tough. So tough that someone had headache after the interview and another slept for over 12 hours! For the company, the most I know about them is that they are relatively new (’09), and pay blood money salaries (c.500 - 700K gross monthly). Arguably the highest paying indigenous O&G firm. For an indigenous firm to pay close to Shell (the least paying notable IOC), it means they pay really well.
Finally, I don’t like the idea of WhatsApp groups in the job/vacancies section because they defeat the aim of having a thread like this, as future applicants won’t have any idea about the process - which is not good. However, if person create group and people dey join, I go join even though I no like am. But then, na why I take time blow this grammar. I’ve benefited from Nairaland, and this is one of my ways of paying back.
P.S. More than 42, 000+ applied for the GT program and they took less than 40, do the math. Also, Seplat was the oil and gas firm that was reported to have instructed her candidates invited for the test not to come with charms aka juju.
Ciao! Someone liked this post. Thanks for that as I couldn't find it even with the keywords. Seplat dey recruit these days? Those good 'ol days of recruiting in Nigeria. |

Most likely no because you believe your parents can take care of anything and I'm sure if you're adult you would have wish to go back to childhood at a point. Taking care of oneself is not easy let alone a family. Hats off to family men. No wonder most of them resort to stealing their employers in order to meet up financially with the family needs. To answer your question, women need marriage majorly because the husbamd now have to take care of all her responsibilities or at least part of it and still share in his fortune if he's a famous person. So basically they need marriage because they have to own a man-slave that will cater to them and their offspring. Rich ladies on the other hand marry their fellow rich as a form of alliance between two powerful people. So there you have it. Thanks for the explanation. So, in such a scenario, what does the man benefit aside from having children within a two-parent household? That is, a man who can provide for himself and all the amenities needed to make life comfortable for humans. P.S. A man who steals from his employer for whatever reason is a thief! It is not the employer's fault that he got married or amassed lots of responsibilities. |

0neal: I used a pretty female dp for my Twitter, now X account for a while. within that period I got lots of followers and DMs from men. Some guys are thirsty...Testosterone on steroid. Most modern women activist are so preoccupied with retribution and supremacist ideology, they would rather focus on having more freedom, push strong and independent womanhood narrative than be bothered about promoting laws and values that keep the family unit bonded together. We are better together than apart. Thanks for the info, I will research more on prostate cancer Testosterone is both the bane and power of every man. It makes us who we are while also being a potential downfall when we succumb to its demands at every point. Men across the world crave sex. It is not a lie when red pillers say "Women are the gatekeepers of sex". My annoyance is how married women will withhold sex from their men (a basic need of his) while expecting the same men to keep to their agreements of being providers and security. We would be told that many women also earn money these days. That is true. However, as seen in the developed world especially the US and Korea, a gender divide has occurred where most men don't get sex let alone enough while women live separate lives. The result? Low marriage and birth rates. As for prostate cancer, yes, it affects most black men for yet-to-be-identified reasons. And I tell you for free, many married men don't get enough sex from their wives, especially after childbirth. Women can be h0rny as well, but a man is always H0RNY. The hormone no dey rest. It is that reason men patronise sex workers - the very reason they exist. Apart from poverty which leads to an increase of sex workers in any country, the demand for sex by men is the major determinant for their existence. It is why I am appalled when young men criticise sex workers or have this belief that sex is free. It is not free. Every man pays for sex at a point. The other day, on Facebook, a man narrated how recently Nigerian ladies in the UK have had so much money that they travel endlessly across the country. E sure me die say most young Nigerian men in the UK never embark on similar trips. Furthermore, he stated how upon the money these ladies have, they bill the men as well as one billed him for whisky if not "no show for am". In summary, the focus of every young man should be to build financial sustainability for himself, keep fit and be healthy. No dey fight for women's love. A man's commitment should be HARD to get, just as women have commodified sexual intercourse. |

Women have had admirers since they turned 15, and this continued all the way to their mid-30s. The small admiration men dey get, they become apprehensive. Another issue is having lots of children. Raising children is expensive. Black men are the most susceptible to prostrate cancer and constant sex reduces the occurrence. YET we have grown men declined that feature in their marriages.
