You can count the number of marriages, while I cannot. So, the belief that Nigerian men hardly marry these days is false as it depends on one's surroundings. In the north, people would always marry. So, we cannot say it is a nationwide phenomenon.

Outside Nigeria where there are available statistics from national bureaus, we can categorically state marriages have dwindled. But not so in Nigeria.

I see this with academicians and people who settle for low risk careers alot. They think because they are intelligent the world should bow at their feet. Sadly, intelligence alone is not enough. According to history, Galileo had to name some planets after monarchs before he was given a quarter and placed on life salary. One weakness I see in intelligent people is their intelligence. They make it their whole personality. There's more to this world and I really wish they can open up their mind. About the lady on 55k salary, French is actually a important subject. Infact schools use it to attract students. When the lady is ready, she'll dust her ass and go where she'll be offered more. The problem is a low offer problem, which is very common in Nigeria.

Generally, anyone who wants to earn lots of money should take more risks. In teaching, math teachers earn a lot of money. Those who earn lower live in a low cost areas and are not willing to take the risks to move to well off areas, network intensively or brush up their skills. Graduates from MBA schools outearn their professors. PhD graduates from business schools who go on to become professors outearn their counterparts in biology or chemistry. Professors who start their companies become financially well-off. Everything is a risk. No free lunch. Money is not free. It must be worked for, and very hard at that.

Well, our views differ, but I consider French a useless language for a child to learn in today's world. especially if the child has global ambitions. The majority of Francophone countries are in Africa, and most of them are too poor. The top economies in sub-Saharan Africa are Anglophones. English is the global language for education, career and business. The reason those in Francophone strive to learn English. Maybe when African countries start becoming prosperous.

For instance, computer science grads with a four-year degree outearn most medical doctors. However, even in medicine, certain specialities outearn other areas. It sounds unfair, but life itself is not fair. If you want high salaries, get into an industry that pays that. Math students who get into hedge funds/quant firms out-earn their professors who are into academics. However, math/physics academics who start their own firms become wealthy. (See Renaissance Technologies).

But the notion that because a discipline or course has social benefits to society warrants you to be highly paid is misplaced. We practice capitalism. If you want money, offer value to the society and get paid. It is the free market. It would reward you. The other day, a young lady lamented that a school offered her 55K as a salary. But she did not think of the fact that her speciality, which is French, is too useless as a language to learn in today's world. I bet you that no school would have offered such a salary if she were to teach Chinese.

Another instance: most footballers have a short period of time in amassing wealth from salaries, sign-on bonuses and endorsements but the professors have a lifetime job till they die. Mind you, not every person who kicks a ball becomes well renowned for it (where the money is), but anyone who gets an academic role has a job almost set till retirement.

The reason for the paucity of sponsorships for science/intellectually stimulating programs/competitions by companies is the poor economy. The Nigerian economy has been battered right from 2015, so firms have slashed their philanthropic budgets while focusing on their marketing aspect. Remember that these firms are PROFIT GENERATING enterprises, not NGOs. Even NGOs rely on moneyed individuals/organisations for funding. Bill Gates is a billionaire. He did not venture into munificent programs before he attained wealth. It was before. So, the blame on companies needs to be on the administrations that have orchestrated the destruction of the Nigerian economy. Companies can fund such programs when their bottom lines are well balanced, not the other way round.

Your best bet is to persuade well-off individuals to sponsor such programs. But looking at history, I strongly doubt that there is that culture for well-off individuals in Nigeria to fund such initiatives on a wider scale. Obviously, there are certain prizes for academically brilliant students by wealthy individuals at some universities, but the preponderance isn't there. So, it is largely a cultural problem on the individual side, and an economic one on the companies' side.

Most Nigerians don't integrate. Imagine say you dey Chile still dey find Nigerian women. Even if them dey, your chances of finding love would be way lower than when you were in Nigeria.
