After the death late president Hage Geingob... No development.. Oil discovery is same as Nigeria.. Namibians are not benefiting from it... I just returned from Namibia this September... Botswana future is bright
If you want to see the real nambia.. Check out
To be fair though, the oil discovery is a recent finding. Drilling platforms are being installed, but no gushing of oil till 2030. So, as it is, no oil revenue. That said, the previous president was there and other resources such as uranium, diamonds, copper plus agro-commodities (livestock especially) were available as sources of revenue. What did he use them for?

How is Botswana's future brighter when it depends disproportionately on diamonds amidst the rise in lab-created diamonds? Also, Botswana is landlocked, and this limits economic progress especially if surrounding nations are equally poorer.

God will NOT fix Nigeria. Nigerians love their country EXACTLY the way it is, that's why they've made that way. Yes, that's true.

Good Luck to Nigeria

Take them out of those places and the result in 25 years will be Nigeria. Look at Zimbabwe.. Or maybe they're learning a new culture. Who knows... Good Luck to Nigeria
Mugabe and Zimbabwe in general got sanctioned. And we know why. It is not a complete 100% fault. Thankfully, Zimbabwe has attracted real sector investments from the Chinese these days. What about the destruction of the Black Wall Street in the US?

I followed you here. Nice discussion. This your comment is problematic. Your generation can be the solution.

The more important thing is that Black Africans simply lack or have lost the intellect or ability to create livable nation spaces. That is why the USA should be careful about the KINDS of people they allow into our country. It's not about race, it's culture. Good Luck to Nigeria.
It is on the race entirely regardless of nationality or location. But then, Botswana and Namibia are seemingly well-run.

Large numbers of people with poor culture is detrimental.
Agreed.

And you wonder why some societies prosper: merit. It reminds me of the Bini man who graduated with a PhD from a Japanese university. He was supposed to get the academic position as stated in the requirements, but a Japanese, who was his junior then, was employed. Later on, he was emailed that he had been appointed to the same position and got an apology because the requirement wasn't initially fulfilled as stated.

P.S. He supported Buhari in 2015, 2019 and Tinubu in 2023. He describes himself as an intellectwat!

Except for those with a first class, graduated before a certain year and have a scholarship, the rest of the student applications to Germany from Nigeria takes at least 18 months to get an interview date, not the visa itself. (this is me being conservative).

Lol. Placing Nigeria and Great Britain on the same table for choice of apex political leadership is like placing darkness and light on the same table.Nigeria has a huge Muslim population majority of whom are extremely preoccupied with efforts at making Nigeria an Islamic Republic.
Such population will not vote a Peter for president. They would rather vote their fellow Muslim even if starvation shall be the result of their choice. Martyrdom.

Great Britain does not have a huge population of Muslims whose majority strive for an Islamic Republic of Great Britain.
This means in the near future, Nigeria will become a full fledged Islamic Republic. Abi no be so? wink

I have similar sentiment despite being an immigrant myself. There is a reason why we left the third world in the first place. We don't want a semblance of that here in the west. Africa (Nigeria esp) has a huge uneducated misbehaving underclass who, if allowed to flood the west will fuvxk it up. Look at the Italian experience with African migrants for reference. Canada had the right approach with the whole express entry to sieve out riff raffs to remain in their third world. unfortunately they got greedy and messed it up using sub par schools as a window to rip off ppl and the result is what u are seeing. I'm not against migration. But for God's sakes. let the riff raffs remain in Africa, don't bring your riff raffles here. I was in Bradford June last year. God forbid bad thing. If you go there, you will know why some of us are apprehensive of open door policy. We are all human beings o

then it is what it is
All cultures are not equal. The greater the presence of certain group of people, the greater the lovey-dovey policies enacted by the politicians. The entire West (bar Denmark, Switzerland and a few) are in that stage. They call people like myself Uncle Toms, but how come certain cultures make a place for better or for worse across every region across the globe?

At the bold, for a first generation Nigerian migrant to complain about Bradford, then it must be so terrible. I fit go there for some analysis. Let me see lovey-dovey policies live and direct. grin grin

All the factors you wrote above result from Anglo-Saxon culture, dominated by the Anglo tribe. While they conquered and settled the USA, the Spanish and Portuguese took over Mexico, Brazil and many other countries in Latin America. The factors you enumerated are more part of the culture in the USA than in Mexico, Cuba and many other places. In fact Argentina used to be the richest country in the world but now has one of the worst economies.

All those things like rule of law, less corruption, democracy, free markets, adaptability, hard work and such are CULTURAL, they're byproducts of the habits of a certain kind of people. There's an interview I posted on Nairaland, a discussion between Vivek Ramanswany and Anne Coulter. Nowadays, we have many dishonest people. If not, why is it difficult to admit that development is largely dependent on the culture of the inhabitants? This thread is a mess. It's almost as if nobody played the video and if they did I doubt if they comprehended what was said. She is not mocking anybody. She is only highlighting the limitations of being an immigrant in a system that can offer much more than just certain types of jobs. Many immigrants are highly skilled in many areas so it should be a case of round pegs in round holes for them. How this flew over so many heads is what I'm actually shocked about.
Most first generation immigrants in the abroad don't like political parties opposed to relaxed immigration or open borders. So don't expect any African or Indian to see her in a good light even if she offers her life for it.

It wasn't this bad during OBJ.. Neverrrr. Humans have to look for quality of life. Your quality of life should come first above profession, except the profession gives you the desired quality of life. But that's not the case for a lot of people in Nigeria.

lol true. My friend in shell told me he has over 100m Naira bank balance. Some of my ogas in the course of my career have houses in choice areas in Lagos. Even the popular Jar.us is making it in real estate. But unfortunately these people are few and many are living below the poverty level in Nigeria.
The bold is true, especially outside Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port-harcourt. Ibadan and Enugu/Anambra might be included. However, we have to define what success is before labelling those outside the afore-mentioned areas as "unsuccessful" or "poor". The presence of dead capital is one major reason most people are termed "unsuccessful", else proper land titles and holdings are enough to rate most Nigerians as successful.

As we all know that it’s not possible for any Nigerian to be successful in life And become rich without leaving Nigeria and without relocating to UK, Europe etc. I might be wrong but if you’ve seen anyone successful in naija without moving abroad first, pls quote me on this.
That is entirely wrong. My first case study is my mom who worked in Nigeria and her only sojourn outside Nigeria was being sponsored by her organisation for an external program, and a pilgrimage to Israel (self sponsored). The rest were to Francophone countries (in West Africa o) as she speaks French. I don't know how you define success, but by every material assessment, she is a successful woman.

Two, my first boss who had his academic degrees in Nigeria and only visits abroad for sponsored training and holidays. He too is successful.

Three, I have classmates/friends/acquaintances who work for good companies in Nigeria with just their BSc. One at NNPC, the other at an investment bank and another at a top bank. Another worked at the same top bank and now works in a public regulatory agency. None of them have been to the international wing of any airport in Nigeria. I write this to illustrate how Nigerian-bred they are. These people are successful. I have another classmate who started her baking business from scratch and built it to the point she employs people (permanent and contract-based). She also organises training sponsored by corporate organisations. I doubt she has a passport and I bet nothing concerns her with japa. She probably doesn't even know what the term means. There are others I attended a certification course with who work in top consulting firms in Nigeria. Again, they have never been abroad.

Additionally, I have another who loves her job and even when I mentioned working for multinational organisations (in the same industry) in either Dubai or the UK, she declined saying "G59, I love Nigeria and what I do". She even declined the marriage proposal of a Canadian-based Nigerian. Although, her reason was that he wanted four children, which she disagreed with.

Not everyone is fazed by living abroad. Humans are different and thus, have different aims in life.

So, this afternoon I passed by a new restaurant and club house recently built by one of our guy who has been in Lagos for years (seems like he’s very well made in Lagos) so he came back and build this, I saw lot of young guys packing their cars and patronizing the club house and music flying around.
So, how come you say you haven't met any successful Nigerian who didn't work or study abroad?

What’s painful is that words going around say this guy spent over 100Million naira to invest in this club house. This is well over the amount of money needed to japa to UK with his family. This guy just missed out on what a lot of Nigerians are dying for. Why investing that much when you can use this money to relocate? Is it that some people don’t have anyone advise them? He’s better off selling that place and pack the money and leave for good
In the first place, I don't fancy the UK for any reason. I don't know why. But it is strange to find it odd that someone decided to invest in Nigeria and live where he made his money. Some people are like that. Everyone gets his choice to make. So you want an investor (100 million invested) to leave for the UK? If I may ask, to do what exactly there?

are you aware that those for many of those who japa to uk on study visa in the last 3 years. their 2 years post graduate visa is about to expire and no hope of getting sponsored job? . The care job they were using to get sponsorship UK has revoked many of the licenses because of wild spread fraud. So that guy should japa with that money and get stranded later? What are you saying . Those in health care related fields are getting jobs in NHS sha. But the guy in question which skills does he have to secure a work sponsorship 🥴. I support sensible japa but saying people dont make it in Nigeria is false. Those selling lace/ Ankara in lagos Island made it, those selling plumbing materials/ building materials made it. Wedding planners, make up artists, photographers made it. Abeg rest
Even in the corporate world, people still make it. There are many many of such people, and I am sure you know them. I have advised someone here to apply to jobs in Nigeria with his master's from a top Japanese university rather than do English teaching, he no gree say the salary in Nigeria won't be high. shocked I don't know why Nigerians love converting earnings when they don't spend naira in the abroad. The only time I know the exchange rate is when I send money to my sister. Every expense in my head is recorded in Yen.
