One person must stay home. Great.

By any chance are you thinking the person who must stay home has to be the wife? In that case hope we are not going to hear about how women of nowadays are entitled and want to reap where they did not sow. How they’re liabilities depending on men.
The global economy has distorted the family system. Chai! No wonder birth rates are plummeting here and there. embarassed

This is a very stupid & insensitive statement to make. With how hard the economy is ,both parents have no choice but to work hard to provide for their child. You think a parent is happy dropping his/her child off to go hustle?
While that is true, there has to be a concession/compromise on either or both side(s) of the parents. It is hard, I know, but that is the result of having children - it is a hell of a sacrifice.
EducationRe: Father Demands Justice After His Baby Was Attacked On The First Day At Daycare by Gerrard59(m): 3:22am On Sep 09, 2024
There needs to be a regulatory body that guides the monitoring and approval of daycare centres. This centre ought to be shut. Other parents should withdraw their children from the place. The name of the daycare centre (which wasn't stated) should be publicised so unsuspecting parents know what it is meant for.

It is not every school that should have a daycare.

And I was like how would small scale business owners survive?

Even top MDs and CEOs are complaining...na wa o.
Even when there was subsidy, fuel has always been high in the East. I saw the new NNPC list and fuel was higher in Port-Harcourt than in Ogun. Yet Rivers is an oil-producing state.

I hear you. It’s not about shaming men, everyone starts somewhere. But if I’m building my life towards a certain vision, I need a partner with that same energy. You don’t expect me to settle for less especially considering the fact that I worked so hard to get to where I am today. Strong, independent women set their standards, and yes, that includes choosing who they build with.
It is this dishonesty that annoys me. Women ALL OVER THE WORLD are hypergamous, aka, they gravitate towards men who are higher than them. So which one is settling for less? It is men who actually settle for less in marriage. It is a universal phenomenon.

Sometimes, I wished Nigeria was rich so that everybody go make their choice without poverty beclouding their thoughts. I want a Nigeria where the marriage and birth rates have plunged as in the US, Japan, South Korea and elsewhere. Make everybody answer their papa name.

This is my response to all the threats and curses on this thread

Maybe it’s low self-esteem, or maybe they just can’t handle the fact that women aren’t here to play second fiddle anymore. Either way, it’s not our job to shrink ourselves to make them comfortable. If a man can’t handle a strong woman, that’s his problem not ours. The world has moved on, and so should they. Women are building empires, making their own money, and setting the terms for their lives. We’re not going back to the days of being seen as sex slaves or kitchen workers. So, to all the men out there feeling threatened step up or step aside. To my fellow women, keep standing strong in your truth. Don’t let anyone guilt you into settling for less just because it makes them feel better about themselves. Keep pushing, keep thriving, and let them catch up if they can.
Interestingly, even so-called opinionated women wish/desire to marry masculine men who can lead the home front. As I do opine on topics like this, let the strong and independent women marry fellow women. Make everybody rest.

Marry. A. Woman.

But if you are one/multiple of all I listed, then it's unfair to label them liars. Op in his heart of heart should know the category he belongs to.
We agree on one thing then. But for real, how Nairalanders behave is how the average Nigerian behaves. It also happens on Twitter notwithstanding the intellectshualism. For those seeking refuge in foreign lands, it's essential to remember that you, your children, and grandchildren may still encounter challenges. In situations like these, you might even be asked to return to Nigeria—the shithole you once japa from. Leaving Nigeria, or "Japa," might not be beneficial for you and future generations, as you may face rejection and racism in other countries. It's crucial to understand that escaping Nigeria doesn't necessarily mean you've left it behind entirely. Nigeria is a part of your identity; it is your shadow and will follow you wherever you go. The condition of your country often determines how you'll be treated in your host countries. No one would treat Americans, the English, or other nationalities the way Nigerians are often treated. Therefore, it's in our best interest to collaborate and contribute to Nigeria's development during our lifetimes. By doing so, we can help ensure that Nigerians living abroad won't have to experience such embarrassing situations.

Not everyone in Lagos hates Igbos or wants Igbos to leave . Just a small minority who are mainly paid for politics
That is not true, please. The elites backed the narrative wholeheartedly. You cannot blame OP when we have the likes of Bayo Onanuga and the SA on Media to the LASG dishing out tribal bigotry. It is good the world sees Nigerians for who they are. As for the commentators, they are Irish. Modern day Irish don't want foreigners to govern them, and that is very fine.

Give people alternatives like I had in Santorini. Divert away from excessive consumption of fuel and use the money saved to further enhance the public transportation system. When it is well developed, restrict the number of cars in all the CBDs using plate number codes. That way, people will be forced to leave the cars behind at home and use the public transportation system
Yes, as it's done in Singapore. Also make parking along the streets illegal unless at designated spots or spots owned by the building owners as it's done in Japan. I'm glad the Lagos train system is being developed as nothing beats a safe, affordable, clean, efficient and fast train network system in a densely populated area. Lagos, being Nigeria's richest and smallest state, is best positioned to implement these policies and infrastructure.

These are five Lies the Lagos/Ibadan expressway media and their Northern cohorts have been telling gainst Igbos since the 60's, which they still tell to this day.

That Ironsi abolished Regionalism and introduced unitary rule with Decree 34

Of course they know you will never Google Decree 34 to find out it was a civil service Decree. What Ironsi introduced was military rule. He neither abolished the 4 Region's Nigeria had at the time, nor denied them resource control. It was Gowon that came after Ironsi, used Decree 14 to abolish all 4 Region's, created 12 states to replace them, and introduced full blown unity rule with Decree 15 which abolished resource control

That Zik prevented secession clause from entering the constitution

There was Awolowo, there was ZIk, there was Ahmadu Bello, Aminu Kano, Enahoro etc. But they want you to believe that Zik alone arm-twisted all these heavy weights, to decide what should, or should not be in the constitution? Is that really practical? One man decided what will be in the constitution of Nigeria while the British were in control? Get real

When you leave her and start dating a new lady, remember to come back here and give us update/complaint of what your new woman does, because you sound very stingy and follow up tiny things which shouldn't matter.

Simply because a woman lied? The question is: why did she lie? OP was not against her cooking and eating, but why lie? Yes, it is ordinary indomie, but why the lie? We have even set aside the being messy in the kitchen.

The thing is, people should know their partners very well before entering a relationship. It is the reason I am an advocate of being friends before lovers. I don't like people who lie and do so brazenly.

All I see is cope.

You should tell Palestinians, Libyans, and many other victims of America's brutal foreign policy that they are "the least of the evil on the planet". The US unilaterally instituted sanctions against a country outside the bounds of international law. Seized the national property of the victimized country and you have the chutzpah to whine about like-for-like comparison. Come back with your gotchas when China seizes Nepal's presidential plane because Nepal did not embrace communism. It is an indictment of America that China and Russia enjoy broad support within the Global South because of how horribly they've abused their primacy.
-Lord
I am always wary of Africans who lampoon China every time and over flimsy issues. Fine, there are issues here and there. One of which has to do with over-fishing or illegal mining. But that is where laws have to be implemented and the Chinese will follow suit. Ghana complains of illegal mining by the Chinese, but Zimbabweans don't because they enacted laws to prevent such. Today, a Chinese company has opened a large processing facility in Zimbabwe whereas the US geoscience company Kubold Metals in Zambia has not and does not intend to do the same. Kubold Metals is just interested in transporting raw minerals over the railway line backed by US funds. The US grudgingly invested there with the assistance of an Indian or Emirati company just to counter Chinese investments in the Eastern axis (Tanzania and Rwanda). If the US is so interested, why did it not commence railway investments across the continent? Tomorrow, dem go talk about loan traps whereas the major lenders to Africa are multilateral institutions dominated by the West.

Look at the massive railway investments in Lagos and Ogun by Chinese companies. Over sixty years of being associated with the West, how many French, German, Swiss and British companies have sought to invest in railway in one of Africa's most populous cities? I omit the US because those ones no sabi construct railway lines.

It's not like the U.S. is going about sanctioning random countries. Even you wouldn't want anything to do with 95% of the countries on that list. My point, anyway, is, do we want to cripple democracy for the good-ole dictatorship? Wouldn't you want to live in a society where you can call out the government and not fear for your life? China's government is a "if you talk you collect" system.
Only within China, and frankly is not the business of outsiders. Most citizens don't like outsiders to have a say in their countries' politics, and rightfully so. But the Chinese are all about business. Just don't harm its interests or nose-poke into its internal affairs. Talking about so-called freedom, here is a word or two from a prominent Chinese politician, Lee Kuan Yew:

"You’re talking about Rwanda or Bangladesh, or Cambodia, or the Philippines. They’ve got democracy … But have you got a civilized life to lead? People want economic development first and foremost. The leaders may talk something else. You take a poll of any people. What is it they want? The right to write an editorial as you like? They want homes, medicine, jobs, schools.”

I am not saying China is perfect, but as long as trade opportunities exist for Africans (who have to improve at negotiations) to become wealthy, I am okay with it. Nothing consine me with another person's politics.

No professional HR practitioner worth his onions will discuss salary with you on the very first discussion on the phone.

It is only desperate candidates that seek to know salary range and that's why they get short-changed.

Your best bet is to have an in-depth discussion with the potential employee with a view to understanding what value he can actually bring to the organisation before the negotiation starts.
Depends on the profile of the candidate, the scope of the position and the size of the company. For experienced positions, some applicants will demand to know how much they will be paid, and that is okay. For a secretarial position, I don't see the possibility.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Asking An Employer The Salary Range Before Interview. by Gerrard59(m): 8:59am On Sep 06, 2024
To be fair, not all roles or companies state the salary. Salaries are dependent on the profile of the applicant, scope of the position, size of the company, negotiating power of both parties etc. The best the interviewer could have done is to give a range that is dependent on the profile of the applicant.

That said, I suggest more companies in Nigeria should offer to pay the transport fare of invited applicants subject to terms and conditions.

Lol. Subsidies don't work in populous corrupt countries you mean
US and China have subsidies. Nigeria is fiscally messed up by the leaders not any stroke of fate. Every evil that has befallen this country is courtesy of its leaders.
Even when you remove subsidies, the country is the worst for it
China and the US are way wealthier than Nigeria. So they can afford to pay subsidies. I forgot to mention that aspect. Nigeria is too poor and unproductive to engage in subsidies. Also, Nigerian leaders aren't imported into the country, but come from the same population. So please don't lay the blame on only the leaders. Corruption is everywhere but the US government doesn't own or operate refineries. Petrol prices aren't fixed in China or the US. Chinese state owned enterprises are better managed than their Nigerian counterparts. So we cannot compare ourselves to the Chinese in that aspect.
