Infact some Western vessels had to claim Chinese origin yesterday, but their cover was later exposed. The Iranians should request that the crew members must be Chinese, specifically Mainlanders, and ALL must speak Chinese, Mandarin of course. Life is beautiful! |

Heck! In the past generation, not too long ago, women even chose and married wives for their husbands, and those wives knew and respected the first wives that married them in. [Particularly in Igbo culture] What women hate is deception and betrayal.

Onegai: I agree with this, but sadly in reality: they did not take advantage of DEI for themselves and let immigrants and 2nd gen immigrants and white women benefit from it.
Because those guys sadly were the first "school na scam" believers. They pushed sports and arts so much on them, it was crazy. And white society told them that was all they were good at. I'll give some examples:
My sibling went someehere and some kids were playing basketball. They looked at his car and started asking if he waa a music producer or what sport he played. So he told them his job and every single one looked confused, because nobody, NOT one person in their entire community would study a course every Nigerian parent dreams of their kid doing. So they didn't take advantage of scholarships for that course, Naija kids would take it.
Same with my nephew: he moved from Loyola to an expensive private school internationally and the school started telling him to focus on sports. Then I realized that the same thing was happening in Canada and UK. One UK lady made a reel about it and warned parents, because her mum had to push back at the school "my daughter's grades are good, why do you keep suggesting she leaves that and focus on athletics?" (Trust Naija parents).
Chris Rock summed it up: "I'm a top earning comedian yet my neighbor in my nice neighborhood is a white dentist".
Sports and Entertainment are hard to break even in yet they keep pushing it onto Black Americans, meanwhile Africans are sharp enough to know it can be a trap. No. 70 on the ITF list isn't richer than the 200th best Surgeon in America.
And yeah, just because a university is high ranked doesn't mean a particular program they run is high-ranked: some schools with good pedigree don't quite have good STEM programs or maybe their high ranking is for their Business school or some other. Employers usually are the ones who know these things. Thank you for mentioning those cases. I am glad our people are being actively involved because this was how the same White folks wanted to implement affirmative action policies in selected schools where East Asians dominated, and their parents, especially the moms, revolted. Interestingly, these policies are ALWAYS from the Democrats, whom most immigrants fervently support. Regarding whether our people take on these scholarships, my experience is different from yours, as I see many Nigerian-Americans who take on these scholarships and as my linked article showed, Black Africans take up significantly more spots at top universities on the basis of affirmative action than African Americans do. Also, I remember a conversation I had with a Taiwanese American who worked at Microsoft, and if I am correct, NASA as well, detailing how she mostly came across Nigerians in top positions. According to her, Microsoft would offer specific scholarships for Black students, but the majority who take up these slots are not African Americans but Black Africans, of whom Nigerians are the majority. More on affirmative action: An example is the Sturversyant school, where in the early 20th century, it had more Black students than East Asians. However, their numbers have nosedived over the years as Asian American students have leapfrogged both White and Black students to be the dominant group in the school. In fact, these standardised tests were introduced to ensure Jewish students got admitted on merit, as they were excluded from many elite institutions. Over time, East Asian students have performed so well that sometimes I think most advocates of the "remove affirmative action/cancel SAT" are behind it, so they reduce Asian enrollment and have more White students. The removal/waiver of SAT was done, and it did not reach a year before MIT and Co., reinstated it. The solution is improving math pedagogy at the secondary school level, especially for students from poorer backgrounds. In my books, the surest way out of poverty is studying a math-based course and being so good at it.
That said, are dentists really paid so well across the West? I don't see such here as dentist clinics are a dime and a dozen. Dentists na water. |

The wealthy, especially African nationals, who relocated to Dubai, would be thinking twice now. It reminds me of the article in the FT where one-off wealthy/nouveau riche Mainland Chinese who don't want the CCP to see their wealth moved to Singapore, which has a Chinese majority populace. As Singaporean authorities tightened their investment schemes which these mostly largely wealthy Mainland Chinese folks used to gain residency, they (wealthy Mainland Chinese folks) moved to Dubai.
Upon getting to Dubai and staying for a year or two, they found the city did not fit their cultural tastes, and some relocated to Hong Kong.

Centrix: You say you can simply train a student for the Ivys. NOT TRUE. SATs are a test of IQ. As with every IQ test, you can train the child to attain their maximum attainable score (essentially the max score their intelligence can help them attain). College Board (the makers of the SAT) state that the test has been designed to ensure students scores correlate with their actual abilities regardless of the number of times they take the test. Ivy leagues accept only the best (if you're not a wealthy legacy donor) and their average acceptance scores are always VERY high. Extracurriculars don't carry nearly as much weight with international admissions.
Coincidentally, speaking of Ivy league entry (for wealthy often white applicants), this Guardian US article was authored by a Loyola Jesuit Alum: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/nov/17/harvard-university-students-smart-iq
If you know about Loyola, and if you read the wiki, you'd know Loyola is not your typical catholic school (because you seem to be generalizing a lot). This school was built and run largely by American Jesuit priests up until 2010 when they handed over. At the time, you had professors from Jesuit universities in their teaching staff. The President, Fr Pat Ryan, was the one time Vice President (Chancellor) of one of the biggest universities in New York, Fordham University (where Donald Trump and Denzel Washington went to univ) and a former lecturer at Harvard. I know that I have no leverage or stake in this, but it does not sit well with me that well-off Nigerians have strong opinions about racial issues in the West, especially the US and to an extent Canada. I find it somehow and especially laughable. Like, what do you know about racial issues in a society you are not culturally and historically part of? Then, you go on to write or have strong opinions on the topic, forgetting you come from a racially homogenous country that is the most populous Black nation. Well, she studied typical arts and humanities courses, so it's not surprising she has become a social justice warrior. Ndi Black Lives Matter, but not the ones in the most populous Black country. If you appoint her type to work in nation building, the country's life don spoil.
I read the Guardian article and exactly what I thought of (see below): Black Africans being angry that affirmative action is removed because they are the biggest beneficiaries, rather than Black Africans, for whom it was meant. Now, Black Africans have to compete with East Asians for spots on merit rather than get an undue advantage because of their similar skin colour to that of African Americans. If affirmative action must be in place, African Americans, not Black Africans, should be the sole beneficiaries. That said, there are other elite/top rated universities aside from Harvard. For specific high-earning industries (see below), there are even courses at specific universities you can study to break into them. It must not be Harvard. Also, Caltech is a thoroughly good school. A one-time WASSCE highest scorer during the early 2000s did either her undergraduate or graduate degree there. Unfortunately, I cannot recall her name nor the article I read it. https://www.nairaland.com/8184851/top-waec-scorers-2009-where#131568209https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2022-12-15/school-of-quant-at-29-000-an-nyc-college-outclasses-princeton?embedded-checkout=true |

My response is: "SHOW ME".
I'm also in Education too.
The AMERICAN EMBASSY IN NIGERIA literally acknowledged Loyola as producing the first perfect ACT score in West Africa in 2020 in this post: https://web.facebook.com/watch/?v=595873024494921%2F You say other schools are doing this, I'm speaking about recognized standardized tests WAEC, JAMB, SAT, ACT not small competitions here and there that showcase one or two students
I have attached a screen shot of their JAMB performance. For someone in Education, show me a school where 89 students write JAMB and only 4 students score below 300. If a student was 85th position of 89 in class, they still had a score above 300. That record is unmatched anywhere!
You say you can simply train a student for the Ivys. NOT TRUE. SATs are a test of IQ. If you are told that Loyola has produced the best JAMB and WAEC more times than any other school and you still claim there are schools that have better records. Drop them here. LET'S SEE THEM
You claim your Nephew went to Loyola, yet you did not know that Loyola fees were well over 1 million since 2010! Miss me with that
If you know about Loyola, and if you read the wiki, you'd know Loyola is not your typical catholic school (because you seem to be generalizing a lot). Loyola has pedigree. I'm not speaking about other Jesuit schools in Nigeria. This is specifically about Loyola Jesuit College.
I call the drug thing BS. First off, if a child was abusing drugs at home for whatever reason and other parents knew about it, the school would have heard, and that child is not stepping Campus.
A school that expelled the daughter of a sitting northern Governor in 2012 for simply having a cell phone on campus in 2012, you don't know the half of it.
Finally, there's a reason why every year over 2500 kids from across Nigeria and outside sit for their entrance exam to have only 100 students accepted (That's less than a 5 percent acceptance rate). Parents know what they are looking for, Entry is only in JS 1. There are no day students and they don't accept transfers into any other classes. Thank for this well-detailed post. I have always known that Loyola Jesuit is good, but I did not know it is this brilliant. I have not bothered to dig into the numbers, but across the world, Catholic run schools tend to outperform other secular or even other denomination church-managed schools. It is not just the math pedagogy but the discipline that comes along. Even Catholic-run schools in Lagos, Kaduna and Anambra tend to do better than their competition in those various states. Loyola Jesuit wins based on consistency. I do hope they continue with the strict discipline. I have also attached a screenshot of the last full WAEC ranking ever produced. WAEC was courted by private schools to stop producing rankings because it was affecting their businesses apparently. lol Please, is this really true? I remember posting the same picture in my thread (see below). So WAEC has stopped releasing the list of schools which produced the highest scorers? Chai! JAMB has done the same for UTME and I bet for tribal reasons. Nigeria thing too dey get one issue or the other. https://www.nairaland.com/8184851/top-waec-scorers-2009-whereAgain, the list shows the dominance of schools managed by churches and specifically the Catholic Church. |

For a state city like Lagos, building up is literally the major solution it has. Lagos is Nigeria's smallest state with the biggest economy, yet it is also the most poplous. Linking metro lines to Ogun/Oyo is another one.

The boy just need to calm down and wait for his time. The older a man grows, the more appealing he is to women, especially if he is financially successful as he ages. This is not same with women whose sex appeal reduces as they grow older. These things are natural phenomenon that we all must learn to understand and respect to have a fulfilled life here on earth. lawani: He is just joking. How has the US stopped other allies like South Korea from becoming at par with them? Since the second world war the most successful emergent nation is South Korea which is a country with a US base followed by Israel then maybe Singapore. All are at par with the US. Those countries cannot compete with the US because they don't have the land mass and population figures to compete favourably. Brazil, China, India, Nigeria, Pakistan to an extent, Iran, too if/when sanctions are removed, and Indonesia, to an extent are countries that can compete with the US because their internal population can consume homemade products and develop new technologies. There is a limit to superpower status for a mid-sized populated country. India too could have become like that. China too has transformed but it is not an immigrant worker destination and not a high income country. Neither is South Korea an immigrant worker destination. In fact, the Chinese have proved that a highly populated country does not need immigration to thrive. In fact, it is the opposite - you prevent brain drain or attract your intellectuals outside of the country to return home. That is what the Chinese have done. India exports its talents and very few return permanently compared to China. Nothing concerns development with being pro-immigration. It is pro-foreign investment that matters, not pro-immigration. India is a low income country and if nothing changes globally it will take over from China easily because of a lower cost of living. Things can be manufactured in India cheaper than China presently and all India needs now is to build capacity. India's defence budget is also over 40 billion dollars and for a country with per Capita income less than 3k dollars, that budget is worth more than 500 billion dollars in the USA Well, this very thread is telling us how a senior US official has stated clearly that the US won't watch India develop as how China did. Manufacturing cheaply is possible in India, but you need the brain mass. Where and how would that happen when the best leave India en masse? Most new technologies in the world are controlled by either the US or China, and the latter has restricted some of them, while the former has simply stated that it won't allow India to develop into the next China. There is also the issue of cultural values towards development. But that is a topic for another day. |
