TheBizGenius:Commodities trading, aka export of highly demanded products, in the international markets. Consistent sales bring about the 10% interest rate (in USD). These products are internationally priced in USD. Kunle's business, unfortunately, doesn't qualify unless he gets more than 50% of his consumers in the diaspora. 2. The foreign banks are possible but the Nigerian banks would so block you sotay you sef go fear. But then, you are a guru in the field. I doff my hat to you.Foreign banks wouldn't touch it either because the market is largely Nigerian and it's not a "hot cake product/service". |
With the incessant insecurity across the country and displacement of residents, I wager that it's actually higher. Blame those who vigorously campaigned and voted for Buhari in 2015 and 2019. |
TheBizGenius:With your second paragraph, I now understand your point. However, there are industries where 10% interest rates are possible, even from Nigerian banks, let alone foreign banks. |
Shedrack777:The OP is actually an APC supporter who lives in the US. You think he doesn't know what he is doing? |
TheBizGenius:To add, the diesel he uses is purchased on credit. Yes to your suggestion; get an investor, most likely private equity, or get a loan with a very low interest rate. |
You mean the same guy who lied that he needed assistance, and mostly illiterate Igbo people assisted him only to realise that he lied. That same guy? |

To be honest, she's largely correct that casual sex doesn't incentivise men to marry. On average, most men prefer sex, especially easily accessible, to commitment. Commitment is pretty hard and expensive for most men. However, she lives in a society that promoted: "equality" in women, criticised the institution of marriage, demonisation of men over the last decade and a legal system that hasn't been fair to them (men). You cannot have causal sex, make mockery of marriage yet demonise men and expect an abundance of marriages. It just wouldn't work. Also, women now compete for the best jobs with men. At the same time, women are hypergamous. So, where would the average man get the financial resources to cater for the family? It's also bad for the White demographic, but just way worse for her demographic. Kpele. |
meobizy:To be honest, the marriage stats of African Americans, especially the women are appalling. I really do sympathise with them. Donald Trump should ease visa regulations for Black African men, bikonu |
She doesn't look Nigerian. Does she? But why e be say when e reach my turn, they wan change the rules? ![]() Which kind life be this? |
@Topic: As I grow, I have learnt not to believe or take seriously what most ladies say. I only observe their actions, not their words. The koko is for young men to focus on their financial stability and advancement because a young man could still hit 35 and isn't doing well financially. At that point, he cannot still get the 23 year old lass he envisioned. So focus on your economic wellbeing not what women say. Women would always have something to say. |
eepeepook:Some prominent folks in Nigeria's Internet space built their following and writing skills on Nairaland. So, it's not out of place for OP to do the same. |
WriteerNg:If this true, what was the end game for this assault on Iran? How does Iran recover? And if/when it does, would the US/Israel come back? |
But seriously, I don't expect southern pastors, especially Pentecostal ones, to criticise serving politicians vehemently. The politicians can just revoke the land licenses of their churches and fight them head-on. It's futile and dangerous, as a pastor of a thriving ministry, to criticise Tinubu and Wike, given the real estate holdings these megachurches have in both states. ...and that's the reason Northern Christians are morally better off than their southern counterparts. |
MasterTeeUSA:While ensuring a mass transit/metro system is connecting many parts of the city to the hinterlands/suburbs. Let's include that aspect when we reference "saner climes". Abuja does not have a proper public transport system within the metropolis, which ordinarily should connect residents and workers to Suleja, Mararaba, parts of Nasarrawa, Kogi and Kaduna. That way, living costs are better managed, and people live dignified lives. Private car culture in a poor country like ours, without a solid credit finance system, does not augur well. |
CorperKola:Na man I be o. But yes, East Asian societies are in for a huge demographic awakening this century. |
I know the face of Okiki, but na today I know say hin name na Okiki. Nevertheless, I respect these lads for making an industry out of their talents and becoming financially stable. Sometimes, I think it's this financial stability that pains some children of wealthy parents who couldn't replicate their parents' feats, hence they lampoon these skit makers/streamers unnecessarily. |
From some of the responses, I can decipher that the economic conditions of the country have made many of our men despise marriage. To be honest, though, marriage is an expensive decision for a man. It means commitment, and with this commitment comes responsibilities. Responsibilities you never encountered or had a lot to do with as a bachelor. The economy has to really get better, so men become eager and happy to marry. |
CorperKola:Yes, the concept exists, but Chinese women are not in dire need of marriage. Many are opting to remain single. It is the gov't who cajoles them to get married and have children. Left to Chinese women, many will remain single. Their cousins in South Korea already practice such. |
LilMissFavvy:This is the truth. So why do we have a significant number of Nigerian women doing the same? Chinese ladies are even accused of being very picky these days in their choice of would-be husbands. I really wonder if this online narrative of desire for marriage by our women is actually a reality off cameras. |
bukatyne:The thing must have really annoyed you! ![]() |
So many Nigerians caused this, or should I dare say worsened this, by campaigning and supporting Buhari in 2015. The same Buhari who stated that "a fight against Boko Haram is a fight against the north" and he was even named as a negotiator by the same Boko Haram. When Jonathan and Azubuike Ihejirika were hitting Boko Haram really hard, many northern elites complained and accused Jonathan and Ihejirika of "killing northerners". Together with Tinubu, they ran to the US to solicit Obama's help in ousting GEJ. Well well well. Tribal and religious bigotry got us to where we are today. |
Heavy or, in most cases, unnecessary burial expenses are some of the lifestyle/cultural expenses that plunge or further push (in this case) many Nigerians into penury. If an older person dies of natural causes, pray, cry and bury the person within a week. It makes no economic sense to rack up debts to bury someone. Let alone sell a child to raise money to bury the dead. The person has died and haff go. Yes, it hurts, but just cry, pray and dig ground to bury the person. Appleyard:The audacity and arrogance atimes shocks me sometimes. I wonder how China and India, to an extent, see it. On one hand, you are actively scuttling a major supplier of oil to China and have even stopped another one from supplying the same China. Now, all of a sudden, you want the same China to stop buying Russian crude and buy yours. Honestly, if not for the economic rise of China, many naive people, including myself, would not have noticed the ugly hypocrisy of the US-led West. It is nauseating to see. |
Tareq1105:As minister? Yes. But as governor? He is highly praised. |
Interesting post here... emmaodet:In Panso.phist's thread about geopolitical realignment, I posted the link to a YouTube video where a Chinese academic stated (his opinion) that one of the reasons the West is against China is because the latter is deeply involved in developing the infrastructure across the continent and bringing in new technologies to ordinary Africans. I have written countless times that without cheap Chinese Android phones, many Africans would not have had access to the Internet. Tecno, Infinix, Itel etc. Chinese phones with the Android software made it possible for a mass number of Africans to access the Internet on their palms. Then a Nairalander by moniker Bluetooth2 boasted he was happy Instagram was only accessible by IPhone users. Having quick and affordable access to the Internet has so many benefits, both economic and personal. Cheap Chinese phones enabled it. The same with cheap Chinese solar panels, which have enabled many African households to become energy independent. These are better off than dashing visas here and there, as it is a favourite question: If dem give you American visa or Chinese visa, which one you go collect? In my whatsapp group, they have posted that there is now increase in ships coming to drill more oil in africa meaning more jobs. More drilling, more ships.Yes. We would be the ones to benefit. This includes Namibia, Mozambique and almost every West African country. Then there is rare earth mining. I think (my thinking o) that one of the reasons Middle Eastern countries turned focus on Africa for food security was after seeing the effects the Ukrainian-Russian crisis had on their food supply. The Saudis quickly bought off Olam, and the UAE/Qatar have been signing deals here and there. So, we have another benefit as a result of the war elsewhere. It is our time to garner all the benefits as they don't have a choice, and here is the good thing: there is an alternative in China as a major buyer/player. So countries don't have to be tied to one bloc for investments. Two good examples are Guinea Conkary and Zimbabwe. If not for Chinese investments, both countries' mining sectors would have been severely starved of investments. Also, when russian war started, many western companies silently laid-off many russians and started employing us africans, it is the reason i got this current job.I am not surprised by this. One thing I have noticed is how the demographics of companies' employees are linked to their founders. In a distant land, you will find lots of Americans and Brits because American and British companies operate there. The holding company of the firm I work for is owned by a Southeast Asian, and as a result, you have many people from his country and even neighbouring countries working here. We have had a large number of interns from his home country come here to work. Even within your industry, I have noticed that there are very few Blacks who work for commodity trading companies (Trafigura, Vitol and Glencore, Guvnor etc.,) and most of the time, their industry leaders (all White men) have South African citizenships/heritages. Again, human tribalism at work. The onus is on our people to set up their ventures in the industry and play the long game. And this is where cheap capital and government backing come in. Another important aspect is proper corporate governance. A company cannot grow when staff salaries are delayed, and there is poor welfare. This reminds me of the popular Delta "big boy" who married many women, and a Nairalander commented how he worked at one of his shipping companies, yet salaries are owed. Such a company cannot grow beyond Deltan borders to attract the right people and compete for contracts. Most african countries with oil are open directly to the Atlantic, so there is no way 1 country can blockade the production and shipping of others yet, they invested massively in the middle east.Political instability. I believe they are scared that the politics is too unstable for them and would prefer a predictable monarchy in the Middle Eastern countries. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but it is cheaper to drill in the desert and pipe the oil to the coast than drill inland and conduct the same piping? Vandalism wouldn't be commonplace because a monarchy ensures stability rather than tumbo-tumbo democracy. Wetin shock me was how Mozambique suddenly had Islamic terrorism the moment Total announced the discovery of oil there, but everything died off when Trump 2.0 entered office. Two other factors are quantity and propinquity to buyers. The Middle East has a large and close network of oil producers (scale makes it cheaper to drill), and Asia has been the economic powerhouse of the world. |
FutureFocus:I agree with you, but specifically APC data boys have hacked the mass liking to allocate an innumerable number of likes within short period to their posts. Sometimes, these posts are one line sentences and boom, 100+ likes. So it defeats the suggestion of other Nairalanders that the more likes a post generates, the higher it should be in a thread. Implement that and all the first page posts would be that of APC's. |
She bringing up ethnic differences even when she initially knew both of you come from different ethnic groups is enough headache for me. This is why it's preferable to always marry within your ethnicity, religion and down to church denominations. In cases where the woman aligns seamlessly with the man even though she comes from a different denomination or ethnic group, it means she regard him highly and vice versa. Humans are tribal and would always discriminate. So, find ways to lessen the differences. |
dvkot:I agree to this. In reality, the US-led West sponsors more of these Islamic groups than actual Islamic countries, and the US protects the actual Islamic countries that sponsor these groups. |
