It is typical Western hubris! I found his post to be very somehow, and I mean this respectfully. In a military conquest, today's China would defeat Japan comfortably, provided the US isn't involved. If we exclude weaponry, China has a lot of men head-to-head. The talk about China's demographics is meaningless, again, I say this respectfully. All developed countries suffer from demographic crises, most especially East Asian nations. It is not a China thing. It affects the entire region. Even North Korea has a lower fertility rate compared to Japan. In fact, low fertility rate is a global issue. Just that East Asian nations are in the acute stage. Chile has even joined them, so it is culturally neutral. Saudi Arabia, Iran and India have experienced declining fertility rates. Ditto for Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

China is the world's biggest trading partner and is the biggest trading partner of almost, or at least, the major countries. The Japanese had to plead for the resumption of visa-free access to China after it was removed because of Corona.

As for the Taiwan issue, I strongly believe the Chinese are biding their time and will go for it when they believe it is the right time. It will be a divisive issue across the region and indeed the world. What I foresee is Taiwanese becoming refugees in Japan. Any opposition to China's takeover would result in WW3, and no one wins in such a war. My suggestion to China is to wait it out for a decade or so, as the fertility in Taiwan is even way worse than in South Korea. Literally, Taiwan would have few able-bodied men. Mainland Chinese men need women. grin
Nonetheless, I believe Mainland Chinese elites will prefer a peaceful unification because of the precarious demographics of the Han Chinese group. The White man wouldn't mind having their population dwindle drastically as a result of any conflict.

I always laugh when I hear about buying a house in Lekki because there is an airport, a free trade zo
Followino longer the case with Eko Atlantic.

The only places I can live on the island are Ikoyi and Eko Atlantic, but as I previously stated, I can rent apartments anywhere on the island. If you have been following my thread, you will know that Suruleru is my favorite area in Lagos. Gbagada is not bad either, but I still prefer Surulere (not the attached fake Surulere called Ijesha and further down....even the extreme Aguda near those dirty places is not Surulere on my map). I have written about this several times.

I actually have a plan. Honestly, I am putting it out there as a seed of faith. I plan to build a new town along the Lagos-Calabar and Lagos-Sokoto highways, which are close to Lagos. Clear a minimum of 500 to 1,000 ha and convert it into a new town. VI is not up to 600 ha, while Eko Atlantic is 1,000 ha. I will not go into detail, but it will house extremely wealthy Nigerians while also creating opportunities for high-income earners. Poverty will not exist near it. And maybe we can have two of these towns, or maybe the government will appreciate my work and ask me to build more. Who knows?
Alaro and Isimi exist. Or don't they fit your dreams? Please, what is your opinion on Lakowe Estate?

On a serious note, if I were governor, my priority would be to demolish many buildings on the Lagos Mainland (Ebute Metta, Alagomeji, and Yaba) and replace them with high-rises, expanded road networks, and a good drainage system similar to the one along Herbert Marcaulay. In addition, all flyovers will be removed so that underground crossroads can be built throughout the district, complete with mini business centers and shops.
Lagos does not need expanded road networks when those lands could be used for commercial purposes. What Lagos needs to ameliorate its housing issue are:
- A metro system criss-crossing the state down to Ogun and Oyo states.
- High rises like the ones in Hong Kong and Singapore ( Half of those high rises should be public housing.
- The Nigerian economy should be diversified: https://www.nairaland.com/7971370/house-rent-country-nothing-write/8#127995947

The metro is the most important aspect as not everyone can work and live in Lagos as a state. Some people should live in Ogun and Oyo states, but be able to move to work in Lagos on a daily basis.

I do not think Lagos will sink as predicted because we have super brains who will not let it happen. When the treat becomes a reality, the entire world will come to the aid of cities facing similar problems. Rather, we will reclaim more land from the Atlantic Ocean for Lagos. A beg talk another thing. This is why I avoid buying overpriced properties in Lekki and Ajah. Ajah near the Dangote refinery should be well planned; otherwise, it will be a dumping ground in thirty years. If properly planned, that area will become the next Ikeja. It will be even better because it will combine Apapa and Ikeja (sea and air ports).
Yes, the world would not sit by and allow Lagos to sink, but high rise buildings are the way forward. Lagos needs to build up, upper and uppest. Low level buildings in Nigeria's smallest state with the biggest economy yet, is the most populous is very unsustainable. Reclaiming land won't solve the issue.

Corporate tax is different from personal income tax. Personal income tax is where the bulk of tax revenue resides. If you employ you must pay minimum wage to yourself and employee and if you can't you will be shut down. It is corporate tax that can be dodged not tax on wages and if you are caught dodging corporate tax too ..
What if the employer does not pay a salary to himself or pays just the minimum wage?

That is tax avoidance rather than evasion.

there is NO knowledge transfer of any kind. we are working with CCECC on some projects. it is LABOUR only
they are providing all the equipment, materials and technical expertise. that is the pattern with most chinese run projects and their so called loans which are executed by CCECC. like if i give you a loan to build a house and then gbola construction builds the house

infrastructure loans are supposed to be like foreign investment - boosting the local economy.nigerians are supposed to do the design, procurement construction and the money is supposed to go into our economy. all we are doing is growing their economy and paying for semi skilled artisan labour
Thank you for your perspective. From your narration, it seems to be the terms of the loan. The solution will be to include Nigerians in every process from start to finish. I know for one that the train technology know-how was announced alongside people who work in the newly constructed factories to process minerals. Also, in other countries, notably Zimbabwe, Indonesia and Malaysia, technology transfer has been mandated, especially in mining and refining.
Christianity EtcRe: As A Young Man, Help More Males Than Females — Apostle Johnson Suleiman by Gerrard59(m): 2:20pm On Sep 22, 2025
The thing with this advice is that our men spend more on women than on other men. So helping a man doesn't stop the man from assisting women or spending on them. Men are inclined to spend on women because they desire sex, which isn't free. It's because of this sex that most men spend money on non-related women even if they ordinarily wouldn't want to.

Men cannot do without sex, that's the truth. Testosterone is a hormone, not a mo ron.

Inserting the fact that you've fairly travelled, you shouldn't be advocating for plenty Chinese investments in Nigeria.
You talked about technological transfer, can you point 5 areas where Nigeria have gained through technological transfer from China.
- Train technology
- Manufacturing technology. Almost every major to small factory owner in Nigeria sources their equipment from China. The Chinese train Nigerians on how to operate these machines. If some Nigerians don't know how to operate them or innovate based on what they have learnt, that is their fault, not the Chinese.
- Mining technology. This is a new area, especially as factories to process raw mines are newly built or being built. Again, our people have to
learn. The Chinese are teaching. It is on us to learn. Say no to feeding bottle mentality.

China have a bad human right record.
"Human rights" is a subjective phrase and largely cultural. The rights a human has in the UAE differ from those in China. Does it mean the Emiratis don't respect "human rights"? I will rather focus on the rule of law than human rights. This claim that China has a bad human right record, whereas it has NEVER INVADED any country, is laughable.

China is applying the constrictor tactics, pincer movement, supply chain control.
Big big grammar. No one stops you from doing the same.

China encourage bad leadership in Africa. As a matter of fact, if you criticism China too much, you are made to apologize whenever you step foot in China.
The bold is a lie! A bare-faced lie! The Chinese have never compelled any African country to do as they (Chinese) want. It is an agreement-based relationship. I scratch your back, you scratch mine. Our problem is not scratching as hard as the Chinese do. In Indonesia, they mandated Chinese investors to open factories to process the mined materials; they obeyed. In Zimbabwe, they did the same, the Chinese agreed. To date, neither the British nor the Americans have invested in a mine or factory there. China has never Libyaed any African country for refusing its investment. Every African country has the right to decline or reject Chinese investments, and nothing will happen to its president.

The United States is monitoring social media posts during visa applications. And yes, if you criticise China too much, why do you insist on entering the same country? Why not stay back in your lovey-dovey country since China is bad bad bad, eh? Stay in your country and stop disturbing the people you criticise.

I feel Nigeria should imbibe the spirit of the meji era in Japan.
Nigerians are not Japanese. Nigeria is not as homogeneous as Japan or China. Not going to happen.

We shouldn't make the same mistake our ancestors made in trusting the west.
I am not saying we should trust blindly. Trust but verify. I am saying we should trade on equal terms. The Chinese, so far, are the only major power to offer that to Africans. Germany or Japan should have been the ones spearheading train developments across Africa, but none is interested. Our factory owners should have been purchasing equipment from Germany, Italy or USA, but they are too expensive and they are not willing to share technology. Malaysia is willing to sell us improved oil palm varieties. Brazil is willing to trade. India is there too. No one is a saint, but we shouldn't do siddon-look and fold our arms waiting for saints.

Anyone who does not like Chinese investments and technology is free to look elsewhere. Nothing will happen to that person. It is a free world.

Do Nigerians imply that every young guy is into yahoo? Last week, BNB hit $1000. Meanwhile, it was worth less than $1 more than five years ago. Over the weekend, Tensazange.tsu20 notified me of a memecoin that has risen over 500%and and still rising. If one puts in $1000, the chances of getting to $5000 within a short time are very high. Does one have to perform odd jobs simply because he's very young?

This is the problem with living in a poor country where envious people are in great abundance.

Common sense will tell anyone that the southwest sends the most because even within Africa, Europe and elsewhere, migrants are from neighbouring cities/states and regions.

I stand to be corrected.
I think the igbos have the highest middle class in nigeria because they are mostly into business.
We under-estimate the large chunk of people business/market has elevated out of poverty - Kano markets, Jos, Lagos, Aba, Onitsha and co
The jury is still out, but The Economist rated the south west to be the most prosperous region outside Abuja. From a recent data from Statisense, the majority of influx into Lagos comes from other southwestern states. Then, if we add the recent gains in cocoa and cashew, many families in the region will have either entered or solidified their middle class status. But then again, the southeast has one of the lowest, if not the lowest, poverty rates in the country and because Igbos are more ubiquitous across the country, as a group, it will have few poor people.

Sha, a proper study needs to be conducted.

Compared to GDP, how much the company makes and the development of what the home country they are, they are excessively paid!
You should have stated that initially, rather than saying "no CEO in the developed world earns this high". In the US, CEOs earn a lot of money. In Japan and most European countries, they don't. Also, at least 40% of the companies are in the oil and gas industry where salaries are benchmarked to global rates. So, the CEOs have to be paid in line with global standards. Also, some of them are expatriates who ordinarily earn more than homegrown employees.

shoodboi2:
Everything goes back to self confidence. It is common for UK dudes to convert their “wealth” into naira and then turn around to claim they are billionaires. Our people in the US, Australia, and Canada rarely do it, but those in the UK are pros at it.

Even a 2000 pounds salary in the UK is around 4 million here. That makes you a millionaire in naira, but is barely enough for you over there. By the time you remove taxes, rent, and utility, there is barely anything left. So what is the point of the conversion if you are not spending it here?

This issue has been addressed here on NL several times. Wealth is based on where you live, and wealthy people do not need to convert wealth into a weaker currency to prove they are wealthy.

Leave it in your currency, subtract your debts and bills, and then compare what is left with the middle class of the country you are based. Then you will understand where you stand.
Aka Purchasing Power Parity (PPP). That is the most accurate metric to assess people's wealth and income. There are still many of our people, and as you rightly stated, mostly those in the UK, who bring up the aspect of earning lowly in pounds vs highly in naira using insecurity as a reason to avoid Nigeria. However, Nigeria is not the only Black majority country in the world. So, a Nigerian in Nigeria can relocate to Ghana or Barbados and live a much enriching life and do so safely rather than being stuck with £2K per month all in the name of "I am in the abroad where it is safer and things work".

Hotel and clubbing business yes may sound lucrative from the outside ,but start it and you realize that if you don't have deep pockets and connections, it's another heart breaker
Hotel business is more profitable than clubbing business, and it is easier to operate depending on your targeted market.

The OP's description is way brutal as it requires the owner to be very strong, very aggressive, well connected, intimidating and sometimes diabolical. Clubbing business is just an advanced version of OP's business. It requires a certain type of personality to own and operate it.
