dederocs:If that is followed to the end, the EFCC will have to arrest a whole lot of people and shut down many organisations in the country. Starting point will be elite secondary schools in Lagos, Abuja and Port-harcourt. |
jojo1415:Everyone cannot be rich. Also, consider people's backgrounds. Some people will always do better than you. That is life. Your concern should be how to improve yourself, judging from your background and upbringing, not envying people who don't and will never know you. |
QuinQ:Yes, I see them winning, but not without scars here and there. You did not see that part? I used the case of Huawei. It was attacked and almost grounded, but has risen back better, more diversified and stronger. I just don't see them capitulating to the West, whether easily or otherwise. |
LordAdam16:Thank you for the video. It was very revealing and interesting. As we have agreed, the Chinese do need to spend and consume other countries' goods and services. To an extent, I can understand their fears for not opening the stock market to foreign investors who could take advantage to ruin ordinary Chinese investments and/or attack Chinese companies' finances. But then, even when China wants to buy finished goods from other countries, the US puts up limitations such as semiconductor machines and chemicals. That is not the fault of China. The way out as I have written elsewhere would be to share the technologies they (the Chinese) have developed to the rest of the Global South, set up factories in those countries to sell to their citizens and export to neighbouring nations and buy finished goods from those countries. To an extent, this is done in Brazil. On the other hand, I watched this video a week ago and came to fully understand the US' motive by the Trump administration and general US elites. I could have posted it earlier on, but the anti-spam bot has been a mess on my moniker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSWMEc8J88Y |
dominique:Could you please reinstate the last post I made in my diary thread? Thank you. |
The sin aspect is not my major issue, as I am not religious enough to have a say on religious matters. However, I will say it will be unfair to tell Nigerians not to have children. The best many can do is to have one and lock up. As I do say, life is hard, don't make it harder. |
Achor1111:Why have you not condemned the men who patronise these rather than an innocent Seun? |
nybol:Without Nairaland, these girls earned over a billion naira. Wetin concern Seun? Why do you people hate the truth? It is annoying and disgusting at this point. You people really hate the truth. |
Nigerians are too hypocritical and dishonest to engage with on certain topics. Nigerian men are the patrons of these girls. Until these men stop the patronage, the girls will generate a whole of money - tax free - from selling their bodies. BTW, it is not only a Nigerian thing as the industry leader - OnlyFans - does not cover the Nigerian market but the developed world. When I keep stating that testosterone is the driving force, many disagree. They want to fight basic biology ![]() |
Imka:story story story. tell the men to stop the patronage and thy daughter will cease the trade. |
Kenneth, just like Pat Utomi, supported Buhari in 2015. Why did Peter Obi carry him (them) along in 2023? I'm believing those who said Tinubu sponsored Peter Obi so he could reduce Atiku's chances. |
ednut1:He would say you are a wicked person. ![]() I don talk am, anybody wey wan japa, make him or her japa. Tinubu hasn't blocked the airports or shut down runways. A recent BusinessDay article made mockery of those who want to japa, but cannot afford it. Wicked editors! ![]() |
emmaodet:Men will get jobs and marry women. But in an anaemic economy with fewer jobs but a growing number of educated women, many women will remain single for a long time. Men need to hold more jobs - whether high paying or lowly paid - than women in any society. The opposite or even equality will lead to a societal mishap. To think that more than a decade ago on Nairaland, I argued for equal employment for both genders 😔 |
OChimex:Some people are never-do-wells no matter how "educated" or "exposed" they might be. Lots of such people on Nairaland thanks to Obasanjo who liberalised the telecoms industry. |
Andre Pirlo has always come across to me as a rich man. |
QuinQ:I never stated that. I stated there would be scars here and there. So far, from what I have read, the Chinese might have to come to an agreement sooner or later. But I no dey CCP neither am I an ethnic Chinese. So, I am sure they have thought this over. For instance, the quiet removal of tariffs as seen from your shots say a lot about they are coping with the blockade. So, it is not all rosy as one would have expected. The thing is: I just believe the CCP elites will handle things much better than any country that faces a similar bullying from the US. When Lord stated that China has to buy as much as she sells, I agreed and saw reasons why that should be done and even wrote two suggestions. So, I am a fan of the Chinese and what they have achieved, but I am not a fanatic. |
Mcslize:Agreed. As much as there are those who regretted upon returning to Nigeria, there are equally those who are elated they returned. We have to be balanced in how we view things. There are many Nigerians who returned and built organisations for themselves. They got into top positions as well. Something they couldn't have achieved while in the abroad. Such is life. But by that time, it will be too late for you. Except you have a second passport. We don see people wey don quickly run back after coming to Nigeria. They couldn't cope. Thank God they already acquired citizenship. For those that will return home blindly without having a second passport to fall back to, 7 out of 10 persons will forever regret that decision.Agreed as well. But nothing beats being in an environment where the majority look like you, especially as you grow older. Maybe I am different because I reside in a place with very few Black people. If I were to be in the US or Canada, I am sure I would have felt differently. At the end of the day, there are many ex-diasporans who prefer to live in Nigeria. Yes, the majority do have second passports, but hey, they like to live in Nigeria. We cannot take away people's reasons for the things they do. |
Tempulated:We should stop judging scenarios from our individual experiences, as they are quite limited in the general state of affairs. One, this question is likely formed from a southern Nigerian perspective. So, what about Northern Nigeria? Are they not marrying as well? Two, look around you, not necessarily social media, are there no more weddings ongoing? Are the people you know directly or through someone not getting married? I see this topic every time on social media, but the people I schooled with are getting married and/or do plan to get married. Would I come to ask, "Why are Nigerians marrying a lot these days?" |
emmaodet:Agreed. Most ladies who were born and brought up in Lekki won't dare marry a guy from egbeda all in the name of Love.Even Ikeja GRA does not look feasible considering the continuous Mainland vs Island rivalry. The least they can settle for is a guy in Lekki too or abroad while a guy staying in VI will be wifing a lady in iyana ipaja all in the name of yeye Love.Sorry, but does this really happen in real life? I really doubt o as Cave explained it. If you are going to come down, not too low. Lekki, VI and environment should be the lowest too. I can have a son who I sponsored to convenant university come home with a lady from Polytechnic honestly. I and his mother would reject her. I will threaten her not to come near my house again. To an extent, I can understand not marrying from a polytechnic for a man who studied at Covenant. See why I said the VI to Iyana Ipaja does not look feasible? But what about Covenant (man) and UNILAG (woman)? CU (woman) and first generation federal university (man)? Let's also put in mind that those from public universities outnumber their private universities' counterparts. But what I see happening will be arranged or marriages by recommendations. Many parents, especially of their privately educated daughters, will want to be involved in choosing men for them. To solve most of these problems, the Nigerian economy has to grow at above 5 - 7% GDP rate. |
CaveAdullam:The rest of your post is true, but the bold got my attention because there seems to be this existing belief that is peddled on our social media that everyone can be wealthy. Every time, I read the words "wealthy", "rich people", "billionaires" etc., and wonder if people don't know that such people aren't plentiful in any part of the world. Everyone can not be wealthy because there are serious inflationary consequences. But our people go dey use the words "the rich people, the rich people" in their posts, especially in describing or talking about marriage or general living. "Financially comfortable", "well-to-do", "financially stable" are better terms than "rich and wealthy". Wealthy people no plenty for any part of the world. The majority of humans are at best average. Men date lower because they easily flex their authority - leading, providing, and protecting. Women date higher because they are the weaker sex and search for the aforementioned men to safeguard them. Going back to the majority of the population - middle class and lower class, there will always be a higher possibility and probability in dating and marriage within their strata. Even if men date lower, in many wedding ceremonies we've have been opportuned to witness on social media - high profile men in their numbers got married to high profile women. And vice-versa. Men aiming for high profile women must be occupying high profile zones. This is not a work of letters and imagination. It must be so. Women are not visiting clubs and high-end places with their expensive make-up and wears for nothing. They are simply targeting fat preys - rich and successful men. If men are advised to marry high-value women, they also must raise their standard by becoming high value men. The crux of the matter: men and women as we've continuously witnessed every weekend always get married at approximately same level as their potential mates. This is apt. Nature solves the whole problem. But the growing problem is that modern day women have become so educated and earn their own money to the extent that this has made them (rightfully so) believe they deserve men who out-earn them and are more educated (the men still have to provide). With women's inclusion into the labour force, jobs have been divided thus, many men cannot compete in order to provide. Additionally, the kind of men these women want is very few, which is why there is a growing number of single but highly educated and financially stable women in the society. So, women would have to choose a struggle in the coming years. An example is this article, which shows a growing number of educated women marrying men with less educational qualifications because, truthfully, the men they naturally desire no plenty and have far greater options. See here: https: //www. theatlantic. com/family/archive/2025/03/marrying-down-wife-education-hypogamy/682223/ Of course, in last few decades, there has been a social and cultural change which affects the way we see dating, romance, love, and marriage. However, regardless of socio-cultural changes, humans will still rotate around their biological and evolutionary axis.Nature will always win, which is why the belief by every young lady that she will marry a rich man or every young man's belief that he would be rich is misplaced. With the education, exposure and social media content, I don kuku see say an increasing number of people will remain single till they kpeme. |
Mcslize:Yes, he changed after he saw the sufferings many passed through to japa especially to Canada. Na him know wetin him see to come that conclusion. As I don pray and earnestly wish, I want to see you japa to Australia. It is my earnest and honest as a Nairalander to another Nairalander. Please do and japa as well. |
QuinQ:I am not a prophet and haven't come across those articles you posted. Also, if not for the anti-spam bot, I would have posted the links to the articles I read, which made me foresee a reduction of tariffs. |
franchasng:To be fair though, Reddit has the block feature. But yes, most commentators will abuse it to the extent discourse don't flow very well and Nairaland risks turning into an echo chamber. The one week period is great else, it would have been way worse. Your other option of ranking posts is way better. The more likes and less likes, the higher the comment gets in a thread. |
QuinQ:It depends on how you see it, but after reading some articles, I foresee a reduction or waiver off some goods. So those media houses did the prediction before myself. Seeing medical equipment goes to say pharmaceuticals and aviation parts are up next. |
Western countries don suffer no be small. Italy, now France. Sha, they should keep it there sha. Over here, the authorities fit arrest and deport all Black people should such happen. They can be that brutal, and they won't listen to cries of rAcIsM |
QuinQ:I saw that one, but the incoming ones, especially on aviation and pharmaceuticals, are where I presage the next easing. The one you posted was less than three days ago and centred on semiconductor chips. |
With time, I believe China is going to reduce tariffs on some US goods just as Trump did his. The initial strongman behaviour will be mellowed in the coming days/weeks, as there are some US made goods that the Chinese haven't perfected their manufacturing. I could have written a much detailed post on this with links and screenshots, but the anti-spam bot has banned and hidden my posts so many times. Mods no dey help matters. To think there are sections with moderators whose last seen is 2022! Seun no dey try with this website o |
emmaodet:The bold is true, but due to men's ego and territorial behaviour, they find it difficult to manage such a union, especially if the man is someone who built himself up with little favours and here and there. Also, some of those women display crude masculine/"arrogant" behaviours due to the environments, so the belief is rather than marry such, isn't it better to marry a man? It is good for lineage purposes, but except the man plays his part by not rubbing say his cheating exploits on her face (because they can easily walk away), such unions might not last for long. Most importantly, in "most cases", the men who marry those ladies are either men whose families are well-to-do or men who aren't there yet financially. In the latter's case, the man can live with such an arrangement, and it makes sense. A case is Veekee's husband. Lastly, those women still wish to marry men who are higher than them - hypergamy. Ednut described how the Big4 ladies look at the concept of marriage. So, the men, in most cases, must come correct. The post by Acid is apt. |
Acidosis:With this coming from you, the feeling I experienced when I saw the moniker eh. It cannot be described! For you to say this, it means you have seen it all. I might be accused of being immature or rude, but for YOU to say this, that is the end. Make everybody go house. The church session haff end. Sooner or later, there is one last bus stop you will arrive at. I will print that one and stamp it in my room. ![]() |
LordAdam16:I will watch this later and get back. Anti-spam bot don deal with me tire. |
maternal:That is how it is everywhere. If you want to start a business, you have to be there full-time. New businesses cannot be built in the absence of the idea generator. As the company grows, you employ competent managers money can buy. At the nascent stage, money cannot buy such, so you, as the entrepreneur, have to be on the ground. Yes, I wish we could get reliable data with sources of those who returned to Nigeria during and after Obasanjo's tenure (before Buhari entered) to know their trajectories. That way, we could judge better. I am curious, why do they want to be buried back home? Why not in the abroad? |
casualobserver:Three issues here: - Why the belief that anyone who speaks ill of the present administration is an Igbo person? Are you saying it's only Igbos who can call out the ills of the present government? Others aren't doing the same thing? - Why do you believe that no Igbo person believes or thinks that Tinubu would win come 2027? I'm one of such persons. - What has the south south benefitted from being in the centre? It's not like Warri and Calabar ports are functioning or Ibom Port has been approved even after Udom Emmanuel begged Buhari tire. |
