OP, as two posters have rightly pointed out, if you desire to relocate to Nigeria please ensure that you have acquired citizenship of the country that you currently residing. I cannot emphasize on this issue. Many Nigerians who moved back to Nigeria without acquiring a second passport ended up regretting it in the long run. I have been back in Nigeria for over a decade after 13 years abroad but I ensured that I secured my papers before moving back.

Secondly, in this present economy, if you aren't earning in forex don't try it. Nigeria is not for the faint-hearted. The cost of living has quadrupled due to the devaluation of the naira. Even 600k salary is not much in today's Nigeria. Think well. Nigeria isn't going to get better.

Most Nigerians are bitter and frustrated. Nairalanders are just the worst. Poverty, frustration and lack of exposure has made them bitter towards others who are doing well for themselves. Nothing triggers a Nigerian more than a dual citizen. They are trapped in Nigeria and are pissed at those who have options. They are seen as being "unpatriotic".

It is what it is.In most cases, their parents are able to visit them abroad so they don't see the reason to visit.

That is a lie. I was 31 when I served. I was told that because I graduated before the age of 30, i couldn't get an exemption. The same with many of us who were above 30 at the time. That exemption only works if you graduated from uni from 30 and above.

No one above 30 can serve by law. Unless the person criminally change their age.
If you're above 30, you will be excluded or exempted and be given exemption or exclusion letter, instead of discharge letter

OP, I will be honest with you. In this present economy, N7 million is not enough to migrate anywhere outside of Africa. It's just enough to travel abroad for a vacation. I would have suggested that you use the Canadian express entry program which is a quick pathway to Canadian citizenship but you don't have the required work experience, skills or qualifications to be eligible for that program. Sociology is a useless course. Let no one tell you otherwise. I am an Immigration lawyer so i know what i'm saying. If your skills/ degree isn't STEM related, it would be difficult for you to Japa abroad. Your best bet is to look for tuition free universities in Europe, improve your skills then move there with the long-term goal of migrating to a "better" country. Otherwise, use that money to improve yourself in Nigeria. JAPA is not for the faint-hearted. My two cents.

Have you ever thought that it's possible that he just got his papers (naturalized/green card)? There are many reasons why people spend so many years abroad without visiting home. A mate of mine in the UK hasn't been to Nigeria since 2010. In his own words "I already know what's on ground so there's no need for me to visit home". A classmate of mine just briefly visited Lagos after more than two decades away. The last time he was in Nigeria was in 2016. Everyone has his or her reasons for being away from home.

I have said it on numerous occasions that most people on this forum are bitter, frustrated, sad and ignorant. If most of the posters had taken their time to listen to what Tayo said on his blog, they would noted his key reasons for relocating abroad such as zero power, spending half his day in traffic and not many connecting flights.Nigeria was affecting his creativity due to the fact that he spends most of his time doing everything for himself. Tayo is a travel blogger. It is not easy traveling to many parts of the world from Nigeria due to the need for connecting flights. This is where Lisbon, Portugal comes in. Lisbon is strategically located at the southern western end of Europe. He can travel to many European countries at an affordable rate. Portugal is close to Africa thereby giving him easy access to the African market. There are many direct flights to the Americas from Lisbon. The weather in Portugal is better than the UK, Canada and most European countries.

You lots are just too emotional when it comes to the way people talk about Nigeria.

It's not a gender thing dearie. The crux of the matter is that most of the commenters on this forum are jealous and frustrated. Many of them have never entered a plane in their lives. Most of them have not even crossed the seme-border. Even on this poster's thread, he is being insulted by a few people. There was a girl who posted her trip to Morocco on the travel thread. You should see the level of insults she got. This is despite the fact that she POSTED that she was based in England. Too many bitter people on this site.

Buenos Tardes (good afternoon) OP. I respect the way you are enjoying life. I was in Mexico in September for a conference. The country is not bad at all despite what the western media would say. Try and visit the INCA pyramids , temples and museums when you have the time. Don't mind the frustrated haters on this blog. Most of them are APC goons who have never passed through the semi-border.

My Experiences so far
Mexicans are so welcoming. You can establish a really good relationship with a Mexican, in just an hour's meeting. They are the most polite and courteous people I've met, in my adventures so far. Oh... one more thing, their ladies are the best.

You don't need to travel to Canada, US or Uk to know this. Visit places like Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, UAE or Turkey and you will understand what I mean. Every country has it's problems, ghettos and poor but most functionals countries have something in common that Nigeria doesn't: decent infrastructure, light, good water system, quality education and financial incentives for the working class. Can Nigeria boast of that? That is the question.

Your "luxury" in Nigeria is actually a ghetto lifestyle. How can you say that you are living a luxurious lifestyle but the road to your house/business is in a mess, there are potholes everywhere, your house/business easily gets flooded when it rains, people openly defecate roads leading to your house/business, the gutters next to your house are open and your house hasn't been painted in ages? That's ghetto living if you ask me. Observe the areas where the rich in organized societies live and the difference is as clear as day and night.Oh, let's not forget that area boys live not too far from where the rich live.

This is true because you have properties going for hundreds of millions of naira in places with no standard drainage systems, no piped water, mosquitoes everywhere and untarred roads. Living in a developed world has made me realise most of what we term "luxuries" aren't luxurious in the real sense of it. OP, the reality of things is that many graduates all over the world are doing jobs that don't corollate with their qualifications. I'm not giving any excuses to the messed up economic situation in Nigeria but the fact of the matter is that COVID and the Russian/Ukrainian war has messed up the global economy. The job market now is ultra competitive compared to our parents time. Too many degree holders and not too many jobs to cater to them. Graduates need to learn a skill that will set them apart from the competition. Gain IT skills, get professional qualifications or specialize in a lucrative field. Think outside the box. Most importantly, know how to sell yourself. No one can do that for you.

This is blunt truth. JAPA is a leveler. Anyone who is able to migrate and live in a functional society will no longer worship "big men" in Nigeria. That's why a lot of bosses despise foreign graduates. The home grads are easier to manipulate and control compared to their foreign counterparts who would question their decisions. I saw it when I moved back to Nigeria to attend Nigerian Law School. The lecturers literally instigated those who studied in Nigeria against those of us who studied abroad. They mocked our accents and told us to stop using "phonetics" even though some of us had lived abroad for many years. Nigerians don't like people who are self-aware and know their worth. The more woke people, the fewer worshippers.

What you have highlighted is the blunt reality of the everyday workplace in Nigeria.

That's how many of them are. Even relatives aren't left out. My uncle is always complaining about people who leave the country. He always says that there's nothing abroad and that Nigeria is where it's at. Meanwhile, this same man migrated to the UK in 80s when he was a young man, got his professional qualifications, worked abroad for a few years before moving back to Nigeria. This same man is a dual national and is presently sorting out American citizenship for his kids. If he's so patriotic, why obtain dual nationality? That's the problem that we are facing in Nigeria. Hypocrisy. Just look at Femi Kuti. He's telling Nigerians not to JAPA but he and his son Made are British citizens. Same with Segun Agbaje of GTB who studied in the UK and US. His kids are all dual nationals. The elites just want to be the gatekeepers to prosperity in this part of the world. They need people to worship them and their kids

Nigerians have been emigrating out of the country for years and no one complained. People have been migrating since the mid-80s. Yet, have you lots noticed that so many Politicians, business men, religious figures, traditional rulers, top bankers, senior lawyers and economist are all complaining about many people JAPAing from the country? That's because their best and brightest who have been oppressed by them for many years have decided to take their talents to where they are appreciated. I will speak for my profession. I am a lawyer and many lawyers who were called to the Bar in the past 13 years have resigned from their law firms and migrated to Canada and the U.S. Many Senior Lawyers are bitter because they no longer have docile lawyers who would serve them for YEARS without being made partner. The same for the banking sector. Many middle staff have left after years of psychological abuse by the Ogas at the top who make serious profits and pay their staff peanuts. It's the same in most industries and professions in the country.

The elites, in collaboration with the politicians, have destroyed the middle class. The remaining middle class are leaving the country for them to control. The elites have properties and assets abroad but will tell you to be patriotic to your fatherland. They send their children to the best schools abroad and many of them have second passports but they don't want you to have. Shine your eyes.

I used Air Peace in October for my trip to London and their Aircraft is damn old. No inflight entertainment. Can't charge my phone. Their food was good though. I only used them because it's direct and Gatwick is not far from where I live in London. There's a lot that they need to do if they plan to ply the international route on the long haul.

They are needed but to really industrialize Nigeria, the country needs to invest heavily in Science & Technology. In this modern age, innovation is the new oil & gold. STEMS (Science, IT & Engineering) is crucial for any serious country to be competitive. The issue is that Nigerian politicians know this but would never do it but an innovative workforce is a threat to their corrupt rule.

I get you. If you are intent on setting up a business, please research other African countries that are politically and economically stable. Hell, if you can raise more capital, you can travel to South American countries like Brazil or uruguay and set up a business there. Those countries are more economically stable than those in Africa and the cost of living is lower than the west. Always think outside the box.

All of these are wrong. As of now, the only western country that guarantees you PR in less than 5 years is Canada. The Canadian express entry program ensures that you will get your PR within six months. You will have to apply from your home country though.

The country with the quickest route to citizenship bar the citizenship by investment scheme is Argentina. You can become a naturalized citizen of Argentina in just 2 years. Please bear in mind that Argentina is very racist towards people of black african descent.

Brazil offers permanent residency and citizens within four years of living in the country. PR is granted almost immediately after marrying a Brazilian citizen.

New Zealand. PR can be obtained within 6-12 months through skilled migration or specific investment streams.

Paraguay. PR can be obtained after 3 years of residency.

For most western countries it is 5 years. So think well.

Unfortunately, It does. Even here in Nigeria, many lifelong friendships were destroyed due to the results of the last election. It takes mutual love, respect, maturity and tolerance to overcome political differences.

Nigerians need to understand that most of these embassies are business centers. They make a lot of money from rejected visas. It's not only in Nigeria. Most African countries have a very high rejection rate. Even countries like Algeria that's more organized than Nigeria has a very high rejection rate. I always advise people not to put all their eggs in one basket. The average Nigerian has the mentality that it's either U.S. or bust. That's what happened this man. Always widen your options. Look at non-english speaking countries like Brazil, France, Spain, Poland and Finland. They are much cheaper than the U.S. and it's easier to move to the States from those countries after acquiring your degree and gaining work experience. Lastly, never rely on travel agents who are only interested in your money. Consult an Immigration lawyer who would give you legal advice.

OP, while I get what you are saying about Southerners losing important positions in the civil service due to the JAPA Syndrome, you have to bear in mind that Southerners are ultra-competitive while most Northerners are content with what they have. As one commentator rightly said, Southerners think globally while Northerners think locally. Southerners want to compete with their contemporaries across the globe while Northerners are contented with thriving in a society that runs on quota system and corruption.

You have a lot of time and energy to argue with people who have either suffered numerous visa rejections, deported or have not ever left the shores of Nigeria. Most of them are APC zombies who are bitter at people who have better options than them. If they were truly exposed, they would know that the remittances from the Nigerians in Diaspora is the second largest money maker after oil exports.

go on LinkedIn. 4 of my ex colleagues in Nigeria have become directors in the past 2 years. They continued their careers from where they left off in Nigeria. I got a level higher in my first job in Canada at a big 4 audit firm. Keep believing negativity na u sabi 😉
