Even her username should be an indicator of where she's based. In the UK, traveling to countries like Morocco is nothing. Even university students do that on a regular basis. Majority of people on this forum lack exposure. It's no wonder politicians take you lots for granted. Shaking my damn head.

Very true. I salute your courage. I have given up trying to educate these people as they have what they call "coconut head". The educational system in this country needs to be overhauled for the country to progress. Too many educated illiterates roaming around.

The OP is a real JJC! The U.S. Embassy has always been like this lol. Getting an American visa is a like playing the lottery.The US no send anybody. I remember in 2000, the US Embassy told big men who were sitting in their cars to queue otherwise they would not be allowed inside the Embassy. There was so many visa rejections even then.

2 of my friends back in the early 2000s got the visas with the embassy staff not even checking any doc they brought with them. One landed in the US with $5 and the other $10. Of course they never returned to Nigeria and are both citizens now. Meanwhile during that period, several Nigerian senators where denied visiting visas.

OP, my advice to you is to work towards becoming an English Translator in Asia or Latin America. Don't waste your money on a Master's program that may not guarantee you a job overseas. In today's world, skills matter more than degrees. Degrees are a mere formality to show that you are "educated". Turn your degree into a skill. Look for international organizations that are in need of English translators. Hell, you can use part of that money to learn another language that will give you an edge in the international job market. Think outside the box.

When I say that Nigerian men are the biggest SIMPS in Africa, people think that I am exaggerating and hating my own gender and countrymen. No matter how matter times we try to lecture guys to sort themselves out first before considering women, it all falls on deaf ears. Nigerian men have a savior like complex. As far as I am concerned, if you don't have at least two different streams of income, you shouldn't bother getting married. Let no deceive you with this bogus crap that "he who finds a wife finds a good thing". It is a scam. I don't comment on political issues online but if workers in multinational companies like Shell can be complaining about declining standards of living, then we have a serious problem. They are among the highest paid workers in Nigeria. Only NNPC and a few other organizations pay higher wages than Shell as far as Nigeria is concerned.

Let me tell you all the blunt reality of things: The policies of this administration and its predecessor has not only decimated the middle class but now many Nigerians have now been humbled economically. Many top shots have realized that they are not as rich as they thought they are. The supposed "middle class" have been living a middle class lifestyle on a working class salary. The only people who have managed to prosper in the past couple of years are forex traders, politicians, SANS with political affiliations, those who are doing business internationally and government contractors. Everybody else is feeling the heat. Social media has deceived people that many Nigerians are balling. Many are living a lie.

I don't see anything wrong with this apartment. In the UK, they call this a studio apartment which is meant for bachelors/spinsters. OP, let me give you free expo. Women, especially Nigerian women, are not stupid. Before they decide to go on a date with you, they have already sized you up. They know who they can use as a MAGA and those who are too sophisticated for them. Nigerian women from poor homes see men of their class as easy preys who lack options like them. So it's easier for them to take them for a ride. Whereas, when they see guys from rich backgrounds, self-made men or repatriates with foreign accents, they are intimidated. They are particularly intimidated by men with foreign accents (my experience anyways) as they don't regard them as being "Nigerian enough" to simp for them. There you have it.

Many of those who advice people to "invest" or "set up a business" are ignorant and not true entrepreneurs. Not everybody has a business mind. Two, the business climate in Nigeria is one of the worst in the world despite it's massive population. Your employees will frustrate you, Government policies will make things difficult for you, your customers/clients will be owing you money and the difficulty in obtaining loans from Banks will frustrate you. As someone rightly mentioned, only large scale businesses like Dangote Cement, Ibru business empire or small scale businesses like recharge cards, food vending or small chemist shops thrive in Nigeria.

If your business backfires and you have no back-up plan, you are finished.

Gerrard, you need to stop giving these people attention. The more you talk about them, the more popular they become and the more embolded they are to air out their views on this platform. I once mentioned that Nigerians suffer from what is called "Crabs in a bucket" syndrome. That is, they want to be the gatekeepers to success. They don't want their fellow countrymen to have the same opportunities as them.

I also have a second passport courtesy of me having lived in Europe for almost 13 years. I'm currently based in Nigeria and do travel back and forth while I can. Despite this, you will never see me discourage people from traveling out. I only tell people to have a full-proof plan before they JAPA so that they will not end up having any regrets. Nigeria is a necessary evil but at the same time, it is very tough. If you can't help people to cope with this messed up administration, don't discourage them for seeking alternative options outside Nigeria.

This is what I said in one of my posts a few months ago and I was lambasted as drunkard. Immigration is not for the faint-hearted. It's best to do it in your prime. It's best to do it when you have no responsibilities and no established career. There's a reason why student visas are the most common visas for those who want to JAPA LEGALLY. As a student, especially undergraduate, you have the advantage of learning how the system works at uni. It is also easier to form friendships and relationships while in uni than as a graduate in a company.

One can immigrate at a mature age. It's just that you have to start over from scratch except you are lucky to secure a job or already have something on ground before you arrive.

I agree but what choice does he have? Citizenship via investment in Portugal, Cyprus, Spain or Malta starts at $500,000. Its $1million in Malta, 1million GB in the UK and at least $1 million in the U.S. You still have to live in those countries for at least 3 years before you qualify and acquire it. Otherwise, he may have to Japa to get it.

I'm well aware that the UK and some European countries are canceling visa-free access for some of those caribbean countries as many people have used those countries passports as a backdoor to the UK and Europe. Nevertheless, it's still the OP's best bet as many European countries are canceling their own citizenship via investment routes (Malta,Cyprus and now Portugal). Otherwise, he may have to go through Canada PR express entry or go to Brazil and marry a citizen there. The caribbean citizenship via investment is his best bet as it's cheaper (minimum of $100K) and he doesn't have to live there in order to get it. That's what a lot of Nigerian politicians and captains of industry are doing right now.

OP, you are earning close to N1million. 95% of Nigerians are not earning that amount. If you JAPA in haste, you may not earn the same amount or be able to replicate the lifestyle you have in Nigeria. My advise to you is to invest your money, make a profit and buy a second passport. Yes, go through the citizenship by investment route. When you have enough capital, you can acquire a caribbean passport (St. Kitts, Dominica, Grenada) which will give you visa free access to most countries in the West. Don't put all your eggs in Nigeria. With a second passport, you have an exit strategy in case Nigeria gets too hot for you. With a second passport, your children's future is secure. With a second passport, you can be shuttling back and forth between Europe and Nigeria. With a second passport, you can work anywhere in world. Please, focus on what I just said and don't allow anyone to distract you (including women) until you have achieved this. Shalom.

This topic highlights the level of ignorance amongst Nigerians who studied in Nigeria. Foreign-trained doctors failing the medical exam does not mean that they are olodos or that their home-trained counterparts are more intelligent than them. Any one who has gone through the Nigerian education system would know that the system makes it difficult for people to pass. In Nigeria, lecturers focus on theory rather than practicals. They want you to regurgitate everything they teach you in your examination papers.

The reason why Nigerian student do so well abroad is because they studied in a very stressful environment. Once they migrate abroad for further studies, they do well because the environment is stress free. That does not mean that they are better than their foreign-trained counterparts. It just means that they can afford to focus more as they are not dealing with sadistic lecturers who intentionally want them to fail. Foreign-trained Nigerian doctors on the other hand, struggle to pass the exams here as they are used to studying in a stress-free environment where the questions are straight forward, they actually practice what they teach and are not subjected to oppressive lecturers and examiners who want to fail as many people as possible.

If the educational system in Nigeria is so good, why aren't Nigerian medical schools ranked in the top 400 in the world? They aren't even in the top 15 medical schools in Africa.

Finally, I hope you lots know that "foreign" trained could be those studying in Ghana and other African countries?

Nigerians, unfortunately, don't think that way. They believe that everyone must be an entrepreneur.. They don't understand that not everybody is business-minded. No society has ever thrived on the idea that everyone should be an entrepreneur. Not even the big daddy of capitalism (the USA). You must have your doctors, lawyers, engineers, pharmacists, nurses, accountants, teachers, cleaners, garbage truck men,electricians, plumbers, painters, mechanics, soldiers and even road sweepers for any thriving society to succeed.

It's like the only thing Nigerians talk about is marriage and relationships. Nothing innovative/creative. Anyways, there are several reasons why many young Nigerians are not in a relationship.

1. Economic hardship: The economy is not favoring young Nigerians (especially the men) at all. Many are unemployed, earning low salary, on contract or their businesses aren't doing well. Relationships cost money.

2. Entitlement mentality of Nigerian women: A lot of Nigerian women are entitled. Most see their boyfriends as their second father. They believe that they are entitled to monthly maintenance salary. In a country where the national minimum wage is N30,000, how can such men (who are the majority) afford to keep up?

3. Technology. Technology has diminished relationships amongst young people. Young people are more hooked to their laptops or phones than socializing with others.

4. Social media. Social media, which is a by-product of technology, has destroyed so many relationships. It has made women around the world more materialistic than ever before. This is not specific to Nigerians alone but a global problem. Social media promotes fake materialistic lifestyles that most people cannot sustain. Social media has led to the rise of hook up culture.

5. Too much responsibilities placed on Nigerian men due to culture. Nigerian men are told from a young age that they have to take care of their women. They are told that they are 100R% responsible for taking care of all the finances at home. With that level of responsibility, why won't men stay single? It's better to be seen as lazy, irresponsible than to die as a SIMP. So many men have died before their time due to numerous responsibilities.

When I tell people that it's best to Japa when you are in your prime (18-27), I was insulted and called a drunkard. This is despite the fact that I mentioned that i lived in that same UK for over 12 years. I moved there immediately after secondary school, did A'levels (pre-uni) and had family members who helped me adjust to the system.Who better to explain what living abroad is like? It;s not easy when you moved to a country where you don't know anyone.

The best time to establish everlasting relationships with people is secondary school and university (1st Degree). You will interact with people from the same age group as you. People who moved abroad at a younger age find it easier to make friends and have a relationship with someone than someone who moved in their late twenties and above. People in their late twenties and above have spent all their formative years in Nigeria (primary, secondary, university). As a result, their all their closest friends are those they went to school with in Nigeria. All their dating experience is with a Nigerian under a Nigerian setting.

Abroad is a different kettle of fish. It is a very introverted society. An extroverted person will find it difficult to comprehend the introverted nature of the natives the same way people from the mainland struggle to understand why Islanders are introverted. For Nigerian women it's worst as black women are not high in the dating pool. A lot of black men go for white women. Even within the black community, Nigerian women aren't a big attraction. It's either Caribbean women or women from the Horn of Africa. Men don't have patience for Nigerian women and their sense of entitlement.

For Nigerian women who want to Japa, try and establish a relationship in Nigeria before you go. It's much better that way. If i am lying, ask Pansophist and other foreign experts. They will let you know what dating life is like in the west.

On what basis is this statistics? Is it based on assets, monthly earnings or yearly earnings? If it is based on yearly earnings, then 99% of Nigerians aren't earning what you just stated. You are saying that people who earn 500k per month (6 million per annum) are at the bottom of the middle class in Nigeria? That's mad. God help us.

Somebody posted a topic about whether there's any middle class in Nigeria. There's still a middle class in Nigeria but it is on the verge of extinction thanks to the policies of you know who. It is interesting to note that in the 50s, post-war 60s and oil boom 70s, Nigeria had one of the largest, if not the largest, middle class in Africa. The decline started in the late 80s when IBB introduced his Structural Adjustment Policy (SAP). The strength of the naira declined and so did the purchasing power of the middle class. The steady decline of the middle class continued throughout the 90s with two different military regimes. The return of democracy brought a sign of relief to the middle class. It actually grew during Obj and Yara'dua's tenures.It started to decline again under Jonathan but the emergence of APC literally decimated what's left of the middle class.

Nowadays, you are either rich or poor. Before, the middle class could to fly both domestically and internationally but now? Only the rich can afford air travel. Pre-APC, the middle class could afford to send their children overseas to countries like the UK, US, Ireland or Canada. Now, with the exchange rate hovering at N1,000, many middle income parents are withdrawing their wards from foreign universities or sending them to countries where tuition fees are cheaper such as Cyprus, France, Romania and until recently, Ukraine.

Presently, to qualify as a middle class Nigerian, you need to be earning nothing less than N3 million naira per annum. That's even for singles. For a married person, you need an average of N5 million per annum to comfortably take care of your family. Remember I said per annum not per month. This is why the middle class are leaving in huge drones. It's only going to get worse.

OP, normally I would not advice people to japa like that but you are a young man who's in his prime. You have age on your side. Don't waste it investing in a business that is not guaranteed due to the insecurity in the country. People who are into farming are struggling due to attacks from herdsmen and unknown gunmen. You are of the perfect age to migrate to Canada. You can always come back to Nigeria once you have sorted yourself out there. Don't make the same mistake the previous generations made by not migrating when they had the opportunity. This is coming from an OG who's seen it all and has options. Go to Canada, earn some money and invest it in the poultry farm in Nigeria.

I just had to comment on this. Doctor come to your house lol. Yet, your President, previous President, Governors, Senators and other elites frequently travel abroad for medical treatment. Bubu 65% of his 8 year tenure as President in a UK hospital. I just love how people talk so much rubbish on social media due to lack of exposure and ignorance. True. Most African businessmen are egotistic. They believe that they would always be around and wouldn't give others a chance. It's the same reason why most of them don't have a will. They are in denial of their mortality and end up leaving their families in a mess once they depart. Hence, like the topic says, family wealth is not multi-generational like in other continents.

Elumelu does not have any huge business he is controlling with majority stake while using bank loans and not having any expert knowledge about the business but that is what Dangote, BUA do but they are still better than Globacom. You are right. The issue is that majority of founders in this country like to have 100% control of their businesses. They don't even give their own children autonomy to run the business as they see fit or give their own input on how the business should be run. Only Dangote, Elumelu and a few others are enlightened enough to allow shareholders to purchase shares in their companies.
