I had to post more on this issue. How do you fight for a country that is divided along ethnic, religious, class and political lines? Nigerians are not united. Let's stop deceiving ourselves. Your votes do not matter as they will be cancelled by INEC. If people decide to protest, they will be beaten, maimed and possibly killed by the army. So how do you fight for a country that doesn't give a damn about you? These are the issues.

I respect uncle Femi Kuti a lot but he messed up. Such statements should not come from him. He himself is a dual national as he was born in the UK and his kids are dual nationals as well. He and his kids can leave Nigeria whenever they want. You cannot say the same for 99% of Nigerians. Made, his son, has better options than most kids in this country. He can travel to most countries without applying for a visa. Something that 99.9% of Nigerian citizens cannot do. Most people actually Japa in order to acquire what he and Made have. Uncle Femi should sit this one out. He's in no position to tell Nigerians not to give themselves options when he and most of the country's elites have dual citizenship. It's always those who have options that will tell people without options to stay put and not further themselves. Nonsense.

I would recommend Grenadian citizenship by investment. The reasons are as follows:

1. It is cheaper than most Caribbean citizenship by investment schemes. With the current high exchange rate, that is a very important factor to consider.

2. It grants you visa-free access to China which most of the other Island countries bar Dominica can't.

3. It has the E visa which enables you to migrate to the U.S. and establish a business there. You can't beat that.

4. Grenada is one of the least affected countries in the Caribbean in regards to natural disasters.

These are my reasons for choosing the Grenadian passport over other Caribbean passports. St. Kitts has more visa-free access countries but it does have access to the Chinese market nor does it give you the option of migrating to the U.S.

Why do we Nigerians like to exaggerate everything?? Nigeria is not even among the top 20 countries as far as emigration goes but we act like Nigerians are the only ones affecting by mass emigration. What about countries like Lebanon, Syria, Armenia, Guatemala, Niger and Albania where half of their population are based abroad? There are over 200 million people living in Nigeria, of which 90% live in poverty. How many Nigerians have the opportunity to migrate abroad? Nigerians can exaggerate sha.

Any rich block in Nigeria that is below the age of 32 is either an entertainer, has rich parents or started business at an early age. Even at that, they form less than 0.5% of the male population of this country. Nigerian women aren't ready for that conversation. Men who worked hard for their money marry women of a certain class e.g. Bank W, M.I. and Captain Demureen (Toolz's husband). Even Moses Bliss of recent is married to a British-Ghanian lady who is comfortable.

Yours is a different ball gamez when I use the word having documents I meant a legal right to work not necessarily a PR. Having a work permits gives you a document to work in that land unlike what illegal aliens go through.

The US is special because of their peculiar immigration laws that makes it a quota based system unlike Canada that make it a point based system or point based system. You can seamlessly have a work visa post studies even if it takes you a decade to have a PR you already have a document to continue to work wherever you find yourself.

My point was that illegal migrants who usually pass through hell should never be in the position to advice legal migrants who are in tandem with the laws of the host and have every approvals to function legally.

Errm, it took me ten years before I become a permanent resident and I came through the study route. Was never at one point illegal and was staying with my relatives. It takes a while to naturalize in Europe. It took my family friend ten years to naturalize in Cyprus (South) and he was studying and working there. I know some people who have been in the States for almost two decades and they haven't gotten their papers yet. They came as students, graduated and have been working ever since with top firms in the States. The Canadian PR route you mentioned is an exception and not the norm.

This is 100% true. I'm into immigration practice and Nigerian visas are very difficult to get. Many foreigners complain about the difficulty of obtaining a Nigerian visa. As for Nigerian citizenship, not only is it very long and strenuous, foreign men married to Nigerian women aren't entitled to Nigerian citizenship. This is why it is so difficult for Nigeria to attract foreign investors. Our immigration rules are very stringent.

Do you know that most countries in the Middle East bar UAE and Israel need visas to travel to most parts of the world despite their wealth?

Dual nationality is a global phenomenon that is here to stay. We are in a globalized world where freedom of movement is seen as an essential right. Many countries are gradually amending their nationality laws to enable dual nationality. Open your mind to what's happening globally. You talk about being proud to be a Nigerian but most don't even like each other simply because of tribal differences. Let's be honest with ourselves.

For those who are dead set on migrating out of the country, you may have to think outside the box in order to accomplish your goal of reaching your ideal destination. The ideal destinations for most Nigerians are the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and to some extent Ireland. This is understandable as those countries have the largest number of Nigerians outside Africa. However, migrating to those countries is a VERY expensive venture. Not only that, bar Canada, citizenship in those countries is a very long process.

The goal for any Nigerian who intends to Japa should be to attain citizenship which will give them freedom of movement and certain rights. No point spending so much money on student and work visas only for you to end up back in Nigeria.

There are many ways to go about this. For example, I know someone from my time in NYSC who acquired Finnish citizenship. He obtained his first degree in Nigeria before moving to Finland to further his education. At the time, tuition fees were free for international students. He also obtained his citizenship within 6-7 years. He then moved to the UK after his NYSC before Brexit. He did all this without paying N20 million on tuition fees and he has freedom of movement within the EU.

Now, you might say that Europe is now very difficult to migrate to which is true. That's why you need to look at EU countries that guarantee easy visas and use them as a step up to the big boys like Germany or France. South America is another option. Citizenship in Brazil is guaranteed within 3 years or so. With a Brazilian passport, you can travel to 173 countries visa free. Also Brazilian passport holders have freedom of movement live in Portugal. That's your entry to the EU right there. In Chile, citizenship is guaranteed in less than 5 years I believe and Chilean passport holders can work (for a certain time) in the States under a trade agreement.

Remember, the goal is to acquire citizenship and not spend more than your budget. Don't spend so much to JAPA only to cry that abroad is tough and you don't have their passport to show for it.

You can always spot women from poor backgrounds. They are extremely entitled, proud and cannot hide their poverty. If you investigate her family background now, her father may not even own a house and is earning less than N200k per month.Anyways, women like her know who they can chat rubbish to. This is the crux of the matter. Other African countries aren't facing the same restrictions like Nigerians because they know how to behave themselves. Other nationalities are involved in criminal activities but Nigerians are the loudest. They don't even hide it. UAE visa was one of the easiest visas to get but Nigerians have messed it up. All sorts of characters flooded UAE and brought their bad character along with them. That's why I don't blame Embassies for doing financial background checks on Nigerians before issuing them a visa. They can't afford to allow any miscreant to mess up their country. No reasonable country would remove visa requirements for Nigerians because we tend to abuse the priviledges given to us.

You have said all there is to be said. Education is the best form of birth-control. The more educated a population is, the more self-aware they become. Societies with high literacy rates tend to have lower birth rates. If you observe countries with literacy rates above 70R%, they tend to have issues with marriage and child bearing. It's the same way people who are rich and educated tend to have fewer children than people who are poor and illiterate. Nevertheless, education is crucial for the prosperity of any country.

OP, if you are below the age of 30, Japa now while you can. You have age on your side. Don't wait until you are 30 plus before you do it. Also, emigration now is a very expensive procedure. Can you afford it? It is harder to emigrate now than it was 10/15 years ago. Also note that many countries are blocking the study route for JAPA. The UK and Canada have cancelled post- study work visa. Australia is considering limiting the number of students coming to their country, South Korea also doing the same. Think very carefully about where you want to migrate to. What ever you do, please migrate legally and as soon as possible. Once dollar hits N3000, it would be extremely difficult for you to even afford a flight ticket abroad.

That's the reality of being a Nigerian passport holder. Nigerians need visas to travel to most countries outside Nigeria. What other countries take for granted is a priviledge in Nigeria. If you need to be well-off in order to be issued a visa, it says a lot about your country and it's standing across the globe. We just aren't ready for that conversation.

Freedom of movement is a blessing. Right now most Nigerians may not be in prison but are in prison just for being a NIGERIAN.

Most of the commenters haven't seen money. That's why N200K is big to them. A lot of them don't understand economics. N200k is not what it was ten years ago during Jonathan's regime. In this Tinubunomics era, that amount is the equivalent of N100k or less. A lot of these guys aren't exposed and come from very humble homes. If not, they would understand that the cost of living crisis is affecting even high income earners. Your car alone will gulp a quarter of your salary. Where you live also determines your cost of living and lifestyle. If you live on the Island, that amount isn't much. A lot of these people here talking about providing for their families with a lesser amount have not asked themselves what kind of food /lifestyle are they living with that kind of salary. Everybody's reality is different.

If i was born ten years later, my folks wouldn't have been able to send me to the best schools abroad. I went to a private boarding school in the early 2000s. It's impossible to do that now. I thank God that I'm a millennial.Many of us who migrated in the early 2000s were very lucky. Especially before the 2008 recession. I have indirectly guided 3 of my relatives to migrate out of the country. One is a citizen in Canada, the other is in the process of qualifying for indefinite leave to remain in the UK. I have advised many people to have their children in the States or Canada where citizenship by birth is automatic. The situation of Nigeria makes me sad. A lot of good decent people are denied visas due to the passport they carry. Many young people cannot travel for international conferences due to that Nigerian passport. A lot of people cannot tour the globe like their counterparts in other parts of the world due to the limitation that passport imposes.

Yes, that's true. Flights from Ghana, Togo and Benin Republic are much cheaper than flights from Nigeria. This country is anti-business. Nigerians need a transit visa to travel anywhere. It's messed up. Just look up the visa policies for most countries in the world and you will realize how crap that Nigerian passport is. Most countries require Nigerian passport holders to not only have a visa but also a transit visa.

A few years ago, I was on my way back to Naija from South Korea via Ethihad. My flight arrived very early in the morning (5am) and my connecting flight wasn't until 10pm in the evening. Since I didn't need a transit visa, I just left the airport, lodged at a nearby hotel, and went into town (Abu Dhabi). The other Nigerians from the same flight were stuck in the airport as they didn't have a transit visa . People don't understand how limiting that passport is. They think that everything is about money.
