The US is special because of their peculiar immigration laws that makes it a quota based system unlike Canada that make it a point based system or point based system. You can seamlessly have a work visa post studies even if it takes you a decade to have a PR you already have a document to continue to work wherever you find yourself.

Errm, it took me ten years before I become a permanent resident and I came through the study route. Was never at one point illegal and was staying with my relatives. It takes a while to naturalize in Europe. It took my family friend ten years to naturalize in Cyprus (South) and he was studying and working there. I know some people who have been in the States for almost two decades and they haven't gotten their papers yet. They came as students, graduated and have been working ever since with top firms in the States. The Canadian PR route you mentioned is an exception and not the norm.

For those who are dead set on migrating out of the country, you may have to think outside the box in order to accomplish your goal of reaching your ideal destination. The ideal destinations for most Nigerians are the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and to some extent Ireland. This is understandable as those countries have the largest number of Nigerians outside Africa. However, migrating to those countries is a VERY expensive venture. Not only that, bar Canada, citizenship in those countries is a very long process.

The goal for any Nigerian who intends to Japa should be to attain citizenship which will give them freedom of movement and certain rights. No point spending so much money on student and work visas only for you to end up back in Nigeria.

There are many ways to go about this. For example, I know someone from my time in NYSC who acquired Finnish citizenship. He obtained his first degree in Nigeria before moving to Finland to further his education. At the time, tuition fees were free for international students. He also obtained his citizenship within 6-7 years. He then moved to the UK after his NYSC before Brexit. He did all this without paying N20 million on tuition fees and he has freedom of movement within the EU.

Now, you might say that Europe is now very difficult to migrate to which is true. That's why you need to look at EU countries that guarantee easy visas and use them as a step up to the big boys like Germany or France. South America is another option. Citizenship in Brazil is guaranteed within 3 years or so. With a Brazilian passport, you can travel to 173 countries visa free. Also Brazilian passport holders have freedom of movement live in Portugal. That's your entry to the EU right there. In Chile, citizenship is guaranteed in less than 5 years I believe and Chilean passport holders can work (for a certain time) in the States under a trade agreement.

Remember, the goal is to acquire citizenship and not spend more than your budget. Don't spend so much to JAPA only to cry that abroad is tough and you don't have their passport to show for it.

You can always spot women from poor backgrounds. They are extremely entitled, proud and cannot hide their poverty. If you investigate her family background now, her father may not even own a house and is earning less than N200k per month.Anyways, women like her know who they can chat rubbish to. You have said all there is to be said. Education is the best form of birth-control. The more educated a population is, the more self-aware they become. Societies with high literacy rates tend to have lower birth rates. If you observe countries with literacy rates above 70R%, they tend to have issues with marriage and child bearing. It's the same way people who are rich and educated tend to have fewer children than people who are poor and illiterate. Nevertheless, education is crucial for the prosperity of any country.

OP, if you are below the age of 30, Japa now while you can. You have age on your side. Don't wait until you are 30 plus before you do it. Also, emigration now is a very expensive procedure. Can you afford it? It is harder to emigrate now than it was 10/15 years ago. Also note that many countries are blocking the study route for JAPA. The UK and Canada have cancelled post- study work visa. Australia is considering limiting the number of students coming to their country, South Korea also doing the same. Think very carefully about where you want to migrate to. What ever you do, please migrate legally and as soon as possible. Once dollar hits N3000, it would be extremely difficult for you to even afford a flight ticket abroad.

That's the reality of being a Nigerian passport holder. Nigerians need visas to travel to most countries outside Nigeria. What other countries take for granted is a priviledge in Nigeria. If you need to be well-off in order to be issued a visa, it says a lot about your country and it's standing across the globe. We just aren't ready for that conversation.

Most of the commenters haven't seen money. That's why N200K is big to them. A lot of them don't understand economics. N200k is not what it was ten years ago during Jonathan's regime. In this Tinubunomics era, that amount is the equivalent of N100k or less. A lot of these guys aren't exposed and come from very humble homes. If not, they would understand that the cost of living crisis is affecting even high income earners. Your car alone will gulp a quarter of your salary. Where you live also determines your cost of living and lifestyle. If you live on the Island, that amount isn't much. A lot of these people here talking about providing for their families with a lesser amount have not asked themselves what kind of food /lifestyle are they living with that kind of salary. Everybody's reality is different.

If i was born ten years later, my folks wouldn't have been able to send me to the best schools abroad. I went to a private boarding school in the early 2000s. It's impossible to do that now. I thank God that I'm a millennial.Many of us who migrated in the early 2000s were very lucky. Especially before the 2008 recession. I have indirectly guided 3 of my relatives to migrate out of the country. One is a citizen in Canada, the other is in the process of qualifying for indefinite leave to remain in the UK. I have advised many people to have their children in the States or Canada where citizenship by birth is automatic. The situation of Nigeria makes me sad. A lot of good decent people are denied visas due to the passport they carry. Many young people cannot travel for international conferences due to that Nigerian passport. A lot of people cannot tour the globe like their counterparts in other parts of the world due to the limitation that passport imposes.

Nigerians need a transit visa to travel anywhere. It's messed up. Just look up the visa policies for most countries in the world and you will realize how crap that Nigerian passport is. Most countries require Nigerian passport holders to not only have a visa but also a transit visa.

A few years ago, I was on my way back to Naija from South Korea via Ethihad. My flight arrived very early in the morning (5am) and my connecting flight wasn't until 10pm in the evening. Since I didn't need a transit visa, I just left the airport, lodged at a nearby hotel, and went into town (Abu Dhabi). The other Nigerians from the same flight were stuck in the airport as they didn't have a transit visa . People don't understand how limiting that passport is. They think that everything is about money.

I know! Nigerians don't understand that they are being ripped off big time. My last trip to New York from London (2018), my return ticket was about $400. It cost that much because I bought my ticket at the last minute. I didn't even carry my Nigerian passport as I am part of the visa waiver program . I did my ESTA two days before my trip. Meanwhile, Nigerians in Nigeria would go through hell just to get an interview with the U.S. Embassy and there is a high chance that they may be rejected. Once you succeed in acquiring said visa, you are only given 5 years. It was previously 3 years . Yet, you see the so-called "big boys and girls" bragging about acquiring a 5 year visa while their counterparts in Namibia are issued a 10 year visa. S**t, even Indians, Jordanians and Kazaks are issued 10 year U.S. visas. Nigeria is not rated in the international community.

I had a conversation with pansophist, Tenzagent and Gerrard a few days ago about the ease of traveling within the West/developed world and the poor state of the Nigerian passport. As an Immigration lawyer, I help clients to process their documents and give them immigration advice. What got to me is that as a Nigerian, you need to have a certain amount of money just to get a visa... Take the British High Commission for example. You need to show proof of a decent bank account for the pass 6 months in order for them to process your visa. In most embassies, you need to show proof that you have good "ties" to your country. Just think about it. You need to prove that you are very comfortable in order to obtain a visa.

Meanwhile, Freddy based in Ipswich, England, with no money in his account, can travel to Spain or Morocco with only his passport and the total price for a return ticket is 100 pounds . Even better, Pierre the security guard in Marseille, can decide to travel to Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain with only his ID card and the total cost of the trip, if he books on time, would be nothing more than 300 Euros . Meanwhile, Wale, a chartered accountant based in Lagos, would have to have at least N3million in his bank account in order to get a visa and a decent flight ticket to that same Spain . Just think about it. Nigerians are taking for mugs by both our fellow Nigerians and the international community.

As yourself why a British Airways flight ticket from London to Lagos costs about $2000 for a six hour flight while a flight ticket from London to New York is about $600 if you book in advance. A flight ticket from Lagos to London is the same amount as a flight ticket from London to Johannesburg. This is despite the fact that a flight from London to Jo'berg is 10 hours.

So when I see Nigerians brag that all you need is money to enjoy Nigeria. If you need to be rich just to enjoy the basics of life then you live in a third world country. If you need to be very comfortable in order to travel for holiday, then it says a lot about your country.

Omo, no be my fault. my folks were always intentional of me studying in the UK. All their friends kids studied there. Most of my extended family members live there. I moved there immediately after secondary school in the early 2000s and was there for 13 years. Suffice to say, traveling within Europe is no longer an issue. Although, I envy you lots that studied in the Euro zone. You guys were balling (still balling ). Nigerians living in Nigeria wouldn't understand .
