Only one candidate/party actively campaigned in the build-up to the election. The result was obvious from day one. How can you win the primary election of your party and refuse to campaign afterwards for the main election? The same question should also be asked of the party that 'refused' to actively campaign for it's flagbearer's candidature.
There's no real opposition on the streets. The so-called opposition parties in Lagos only exist in the media, if what played out over the past weeks is anything to go buy. Getting those who wouldn't normally bother to vote to go to the polls and vote for you or your candidate alone is enough to turn the tide, going by the number of registered voters and voters turnout on election day. |

Akin3891: First bank staff could be this shady, sometimes ago i got an unexplained debit of 21k from my saving account, then later received a call from a lady who claimed to be my account officer and she said we had to debit your saving account because you moved some funds from your current account and left no money in it to cover cot, I was like why didn't you seek my consent before you do that, I'm sorry she said.
From that day onwards, she will call me just to ask how I'm doing and if I needed some loans, plus keeping records of my transactions even to 100 naira ,making assumptions of knowing me for many years now, someone I've never met before.
I suspected monitoring spirit, I simply move all funds out at least till the time she will keep her eyes away, Next day she called to know why, I just shrugged. What the bank did, by debiting your savings account to cover for unpaid Account Maintenance Fee in your current account, is perfectly legal though. It was one of the terms you agreed to when you signed your account opening form. |

What do you mean by reducing balance? Nigerian Fintechs are into predatory lending. By the time you annualise the monthly interest rate they are offering, it may exceed 100%. Let your friend try NIRSAL MFB. |

DexterousOne: Why did I dig up this old post?
The economy is in a tailspin and is not investment friendly. We have a cow boy in Aso Rock, and cowboys in state houses nationwide; who can enact draconian policies at a whim, then your business is in hot water
People who said they will do rice importation business, the policy came out of nowhere, and they were in hot water, the ones that said they will do GoKada with capital money o, the govt came out of the blues with silly policies, those ones went underwater too.
Stories like these abound nationwide.
It's very easy to say "invest In the real economy " Easy to say But with the climate and govt in power.... It's a tall order. The ban on the importation of rice didn't come out of nowhere. The evidence was there that the government was heading in that direction. Rice and maize are not the last food items whose importation the FG would ban. Some would still come out to lament when those policies are pronounced and implemented. The importation of "mutilated rags" also fall in this category. Businesses and financiers should pay more attention to governments policies; oftentimes, the pointers are always there. As frustrating as the ban on okadas and marwa in some parts of Lagos is, the policy has been in place to ban motocycles and tricycles on some of those roads and bridges since the Fashola years... Long before the bike-hailing firms were established. Yes the business environment in Nigeria is harsh, but sometimes we need to question the due diligence done by some entrepreneurs before taking other people's money to venture into a business. NIPOST recently imposed hefty licensing fees on logistics companies - a space occupied by many SMEs - but the Communications Minister came out earlier today to say that he didn't approve such. Why a player in an industry will be regulating the same industry in this age puzzles me. |

In case you don't want to enter public transport within Lagos, download the Uber or Bolt app onto your mobile phone and book a ride to the Ikeja address you are heading to from either of Ojota or Berger once you drop; you'll get much cheaper rates and better cars than you would with the regular 'drop'. ultron12345: ... If you take all Nigerians to Dubai and bring everyone from Dubai to Nigeria, in less than 4 years, Nigeria will turn to Dubai and in a few months, Dubai will turn to Nigeria. Before you know it, the Nigerians in Dubai will be begging for visa back to Nigeria. That should tell you something about the kind of people we are. Apt. 1. Nigeria has a pervasive culture of individual irresponsibility. The average Nigerian spends his or her pastime blaming the government and everyone else, but himself or herself, for everything that's wrong with the country. The same ones who drop styrofoam inside drainages would be the loudest critics of government when there's flooding in the rainy season. The same ones who wouldn't do their jobs unless they are generously tipped would turn around to blame senior public office holders for embezzling our common wealth. The most saddening part is that the majority of us are somehow able to justify the atrocities we commit in our own little corners without seeing the link between what we do and the rot in the society. 2. I've read accounts of Nigerians who spend two weeks in Kigali and return to curse Nigeria. I've also read accounts by Nigerians who travelled beyond Kigali in Rwanda and tell stories of how Ikorodu is more developed than the other parts of Rwanda. In addition, I've read the lamentations of a Ghanaian who was berating his country's leaders after visiting Abuja. So whenever anyone who claims to have visited Rwanda starts comparing Rwanda to Nigeria, I know s/he never went beyond Kigali. 3. Many Nigerians have a way of exhibiting the same (mis)behaviour many of our leaders are guilty of. I'm currently participating in a programme for West Africans and most of, if not the only, participants who are fond of breaking the rules there, despite repeated pleas and admonitions, are my compatriots. Yet when you visit the online fora, the pages are littered with tales of woes about how bad Nigeria is and how unfortunate Nigerian leaders are. Agreed, the country is bad and could use some turnaround but things will not get better if we aren't even ready to acknowledge our respective roles in bringing Nigeria to its current state, not to talk of remedying our individual missteps. |

Theconglomerate: I said all Nigeria banks will most likely not pay you your dollars now from dorm account. They'll offer naira or ask you to wait and claim CBN is not selling dollars. They rather sell the money to aboki themselves than pay you dollar unless it's a very negligible sum. I did not select,I say all Nigeria commercial banks. I simply say save whatever you are trying to prove to me and use the same skillset you used to withdraw dollars today that even manufacturers aren't getting from their Nigeria banks stash and help these humble people out and you are telling me to put numbers to what's change to me? Change could be $100k to me as well as $10. Better left imagined than said. There's no logic behind Nigerian banks not paying customers their USD. None whatsoever. Unless you have a situation where someone with say $10000 in his/her account visits a branch to make a withdrawal of an amount that the branch does not have, physically, at that moment. This is addressed by directing the account holder to a different branch or to check back on a specified day, but no bank would not pay customers their USD. |

PresidentBuhari: Can you support your arguments with facts, the CBN governor didnot issue any directive under my command to restrict DOM acc holders from withdrawing funds from their DOM aacounts.
Are you banking with lower Tier banks like EcoBank? Those are the banks that will find it difficult to pay you but then when you go to their head offices, there is very little chance you will not be paid.
It is an illegal act for a bank to restrict a customer access to their available genuine funds, restriction policies start from the top like restriction for $1m transfers etc, then could go lower to $100k but we are not there yet. Those with knowledge of the industry will tell you that Ecobank does not belong in the category you are trying to lump them into, especially when it comes to FX transactions. |
