CultureRe: Stop Oro Festival, Ikorodu Residents Cry by ghostofsparta(m): 2:01am On Sep 28, 2011
Why should they stop Oro or other similar type of festivals, oro is not even a festivity, its actually an age-old custom that is observed to ward off evil presence in the locality/community. What I think the Lagos state government should do is to try as much as possible to modernize it, I don't mean removing all its core element but in terms of publicizing it prior to the days of conducting, just like they did the Eyo Festival which even has an almost similar purpose. Any Yoruba traditions or festivals shouldn't be subject to a debate of interdiction at the senate/house of assembly because it has long been existing even before the Romans civilized the Angles/Saxons i.e. the English who in turn purportedly civilized us. Lastly, anyone who disagrees saying things like "It is so sad that in spite of the level of civilization globally, we, in Nigeria, still condone some archaic and barbaric tradition that ought to be extinct” should remember that the whites still somehow celebrates their head hunting past, and the Americans observe Halloween Day.

@bellante
Must Jensinmi know why the pump price is high in UK and US? Even if he gave an answer to such silly question, you will still ask why do they experience fuel scarcity in UAE? Jensimi gave us an intel by analyzing how the Nigerian oil sector is been manipulated by some goons. In order to mask your daftness because you couldn't grasp jensimi's analyses you decided to write some unintelligible reply when you wrote:

''Since we are willing to pay high prices and get regular supply of electricity and didnt mind paying high tariff charges for telecommunication before
competition which is also
needed in d downstream sector crashed d prices and is now being enjoyed by all. . .I think we should deregulated'

you wrote all that pointless words just to let Jensimi know that his argument is

''out of fashion!!!!''

@ekt_bear
How is jensimi wrong? I'm sure you must have a better explanation regarding the issue, let's hear.

@jensimi
Your analyses makes perfect sense. Can you please provide some elaborate analyses explaining why Nigerian roads and streets are horribly bad, is it the fault of foreign contractors such as Julius Berger, Arab contractor, etc? or is it the local govenment chairmans, FG or state government? Also why are things ridiculously expensive in Nigeria? Is it because the number of importation far exceed that of exportation? Why is the Naira weak and valueless, i.e. low purchasing power? And lastly why can't they be a stable and steady electricity supply in this British amalgamation called Nigeria? Thanks.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Will Not Divide - David Mark by ghostofsparta(m): 2:03am On Sep 26, 2011
Like I said before - any one who doesn't desire Nigeria to be peacefully dis-amalgamated is one of the extremely few who to an opulent extent somehow benefits from the present status-quo. Even the Iya alakaras, barbers, tailors, hairdressers, etc can't bear the hardship of Nigeria no more, they are just enduring in silence, but for how long? while the govt. people are busy increasing their salaries the common man thinks of how he's going to manage N1000 for 4days. The akaras and pofpofs are getting smaller and smaller in size while the price of ordinary garri and onions are slowly rising. D thing wey dey vex me pass na dem bad roads wey de cause accidents every where, dem go dey torture us with unstable electricity and everything from education to electronics just dey ridiculously expensive. Suddenly sardine just jumped from N130 to N250, and because some poor class can afford it @ ridiculous N250 twice in 4 months, one  go say Nigerians are okay. I can't forget OBJ making slow statement such as "Education is expensive" and also foolishly affirming that if a every Nigerians can afford bottled water, therefore everyone is okay. Apart from some dat can afford to reside in flats that have access to bore-hole how many poor commoners fit even afford to dey continuously sustain themselves wit bags of pure water, no be so so water dem dey fetch up and down onto say water corporation no run pipes enter dem area.  I am sure if there had existed Biafraland and or Oodua Republic the standard of living of its common citizens would be far better than what an average or middle class Nigerian is striving to maintain because the genuinely elected rulers of the respective nations would definitely care not to see his/her own tribe and others in its country SUFFER for nothing.
CrimeRe: Youtube Burning Video In Lagos/ ABSU Gang Ra pe. No Investigation No Arrest? by ghostofsparta(m): 7:18am On Sep 25, 2011
After watching the video clip for the first time yesterday, I realized that since it was reported that after the ordeal the perpetrators distributed the video via phone to phone in school, hence one could deduce that these rapists premeditated the whole thing from the on-start because care was taken not to reveal any of their faces, the question is - what could be the motive behind it, because they might as well kept the video for their viewing pleasure if that was the reason for shooting it on phone, but they didn't, they sent it to out to others, so I think debasing the poor girl wasn't enough for those sick bastards, they wanted to damage her public image/persona psychologically, and of which the cause of this heinous deed might stem from a long standing feud/beef with those perps. I am just wondering aloud.
Im*becile, who said I wanted to argue? Are you Ok? I made a statement, a neutral one, and you commented on it. I did not initiate discussion. So, whats the "lets argue" bit about?!

And, what in my post would "betray the fact" that I'm a Nigerian "Southerner"?!?!

P.S:Clearly, the name you posted under is an alias and you definitely been on here before but are just trying to disguise your true self. Insecurity and these fuxcking Ibos. . . . .  smh
Hey Mister, I mostly understand why you're so furious, some infuriating Nairalanders have pissed you off before so you think I am one of them. What I meant by the word 'argue' isn't the senseless/pointless naija style of arguing, I imply for us to discuss that particular issue intelligently, and you don't need to be insulting.

Argue from the dictionary says to give reasons for an opinion in order to support it

And yes I have been on Nairaland before, a long time ago and am not the whoever you presume me to be. Besides no one on NL is using is/her real identity to comment, which also includes you thus you shouldn't have said 'trying to disguise your true self.'

She kept blocking them with her hands. She was ra ped, so you guys should stop making up useless excuse as to why the case should not be investigated.

It's sick. Most Nigerian men are nothing less than the rap ist in Congo. Women gets rap ed and the only thing you incompetent fo ols do is to make excuses AGAINST the victims. sickening.

@ghost

That question is irrelevant to my topic.
You said she kept blocking them with her hands, ofcourse given her reaction, that wasn't a consensual sex, it is definitely an act of violation, or mass violation to be precise, but then again while observing the footage, I asked myself why can't she aggressively get off from there, as in, fight her way out of the situation if she doesn't want it instead of responding with such a soft tone. I don't mean her to fight them off by slapping and kicking her way out of the room because she was obviously outnumbered, but I am sure you know what I mean truly put up REAL resistance but then again, who knows if she has already been intimidated maybe with a gun or knife or even beaten in order to cooperate even before the video shooting started. The fact is she did it under duress. Someone and I had serious debate 3 months ago regarding victims of rapists in Nigeria, and despite agreeing with you and her, I will still tell you what I told her that at times few victims of violation incident kind of like had it coming, are you familiar with the word 'rooster-teaser' ? I am not condoning violation whatsoever, but have heard very few stories of some ladies always getting violated i.e. 'prone'.

Like some good-minded, intelligent and wonderful people have stated on the thread already - Let there be break-up of Nigeria. I've advocated this since my undergraduate days and I would always be one of the top supporters of the division. I'm sick of the Northerners already. They are major setbacks for the possible economic development of the East *i'm Yoruba*

Only the scared, the forever misplaced and beneficiaries of the entity called 'Nigeria' clamour for the continuation of the forcefully welded British art-work.

I see myself as a Yoruba - and only as a Nigerian because situation requires it for now.

What is it with people always talking about nigeria being divided into two states?
Do you really thing that would do any good? Look at what is happening to Sudan today. They are still fighting.
The country has problems, instead if wasting your energy trying to get something that is out of reach, rather
try to change the way things are done.
This country's problems are mostly political. Almost all of west africa has the same problems. The same old
folks are running things. They do not have any ambition except keeping their jobs. So they will
manipulate the mass, encourage youngsters to take weapons and create a mess. These guys are the problem.
Answer this question:
1. Do you know anything about the rush/exploration/partitioning/conquest of Africa? (They even gave it the name 'Africa')
2. What makes you think it is out of reach, does U.S.S.R., U.K., ring any bell?
3. Which of the following twos is the older ?
a. Yoruba race or Nigeria
b. Igbo race or Nigeria
c. Calabar race or Nigeria
d. Ijaw race or Nigeria
4. Yeah you are right, those old guys are the problems, so should we just keep suffering and dying without doing anything AT ALL?

Each of the 3 countries that made up the whole of Britain are approximately 60 million all together and yet as individually separated as they are, each one of them isn't up to the whole of Igbos in terms of population which is approximately 40million or even the Yorubas. The British amalgamated us together doesn't mean we have to remain amalgamated forever. There are several nations that aren't up to a million or two. A large number of population doesn't imply might or 'GIANT' if that's what's deceiving us. Little Japan dominated the eastern front during World War II, and even today Nippon as they like to call themselves have a say in global affairs and decisions, and as one of the manufacture giants of Asia with such social and technological advancement is among those who determines the shape of world economic 'G-8', and yet the population of these nation isn't up to the 2 billion people in China. That's not even the point, the point is why should we keep deluding ourselves with catch phrases such as "united we stand, divided we fall" or cliché such as "giant of Africa" when in fact we can't manufacture needles or matchsticks. The only thing this crippled giantess is good at is, exporting of its crude oil only to be resold back to her because she intentionally misplaced the keys to the doors of its refineries. A giantess with no shame or guilt, where PHCN offices relies on 'chinko' generators to power its billing/receipt machines while payers line up in rows outside in the sun or rain looking irately at the crudely design poster pasted on the wall announcing the and increased bill charges and people ask "na wa o! wen dem go carry digital meter con dis area". A giant whose roads are so horribly undulated with death traps it makes the rugged terrain of Mars look beautiful. A giant with such bastardized education system that it produces more incompetent graduates than employment opportunities, and oh! If they are too much competent graduate, not too worry there are special abattoirs reserved for NYSCs to go serve, after all not everyone need to work, since our so-called leaders are doing the main work - fixed!. Why should our fate be directed by some bunch of inept cabals who don't even know the definition of 'government' or the 'principle of demand and supply' and yet they manage the country affairs as if it's their playground. Why can't there be Biafra Republic or Igboland after-all there is Englishland i.e. England; why can't they be United Creeks of Delta lands, after-all there os Kuwait and Malaysia, Why can't they be Bokoharamistan or The Islamic States of Fulani Emirates after all there was once U.S.S.R. and the Yorubas with their United Tribes of Ile-Odua, after-all there is Deutschland and Netherland, ba wahala!, its only some soul-less people who are benefiting from the present status-quo that wouldn't be happy with the sound of peaceful secession. They are BIG fools because they can make everything in this country better and yet Okadigbo will buy his 32 cars, Tinubu, IBB, Abdulsalam, Abubakar, Tafa Balogun, Bode George, etc may still quietly embezzle without the people minding provided an common citizen is relatively okay since he can afford 3 square meal, but that is not the case. The case is deeper than most what most know, the then successive JIHADIC conquest of West Africa continued downward islamization the Hausa state and of which during the time its aggressive and violent campaign on the places of the south was about to take full course, it was suddenly halted due to the campaigner with bigger guns i.e. British colonialists/missionaries, subsequently the Jihadists resumed with such bequeathed power from the British who were like:

"Hey Russ, please inform uncle Sam that my newly created weapon 'neocolonialism' doesn't only cost less but is also more subtle and civilized, oh jeez! Russ is busy with communism, well let me check on my colonies, Ghana, can't use it, Sierra Leone, no way, Nigeria, ah! ah!, lets see, this educated south think they've gotten independent, let's see how this experimental trick would turn out if I use my weapon like this, and, like that, now let see if they can be free themselves from the north that we've empowered, love this weapon"

And this has been subconsciously aided by some greedy elements in this systemic structure. God, Jesus and Mohammed are not too slow to act on these evil so-called leaders of ours like many been praying and hoping, they just don't take action as we all have seen in the numerous instances of these legislooters, sinators, and gunvernor have always sworn by their holy books before assuming office. If they don't want Nigeria peacefully dis-amalgamated then let them incorporate Ogun and Shango into the present constitution ajd lets see if things would change or not.

"When MEND attacked an oil installation in Lagos, he said, he got in touch with leaders of the Niger Delta and a meeting was held within 24 hours. Consequently, OPC reached an agreement with the leaders of MEND and there was no such attack on any part of Yoruba land again."
Precisely how I intend to reply those 2 adjourn provocateurs. . .OPC would never go into hiding or whatsoever, they just don't react at the slightest impulse. They are calculated, but not as calculated as the Arewas or the Boko Harams, yet it certain the deities of Oduduwalands will protect the Yoruba people and others that dwells in it from the menace of the Boko Harams, I am willing to enlist in OPC, in order to defend Oduduwa land against any external threat rather than die for the sham called Nigeria. In the past whenever they start killing or attacking Yorubas in their land, the Nigerian government turns deaf and blind, when OPC decides to defend their communities that's when the FG begins to shout 'OPC this, OPC that' painting them in such a way it seems OPC started the mayhem as if they desire wanton destruction of lives and property in their home land. To hell with one indivisible Nigeria, after how many years take a glimpse at the state of things in this contraption known as Nigeria. Who knows how much the FG is planning to waste to purchase cakes to celebrate the upcoming Oct. 1st, while PHCN cuts power cables of those who can pay for the electricity that wasn't fully supplied to them, unable to use our 2nd hand electric cookers, we queue at filling stations to buy kerosene at N200/litre and petrol at announced 100% increase in the present amount and when we are upto 150 queued at the gas station, Boko Haram detonates the rigged tanked at gas tank, blowing us all up to Al jana. ODUA REPUBLIC is inevitable and it needs no bloodshed to achieve. Fouck the Abori accord, to hell with a national conference, how can one dialogue with a delegate/leader from a region of that harbors and breed certain inhabitants that are belligerent and hostile to others, lets go to the UN and dissolve the 1914 amalgamation.

Don't pin this on the whole of Igbo people, that's highly stereotypical, Igbo people are very okay just as the Yorubas and northerners too are, the problem is the anomic condition that has gotten to most in a country that wasn't meant to be in the first place. There was an incident told by an elderly person who was among commuters who witnessed a young lady that was seen been forcefully carried away in broad day light Oshodi, Lagos by three thugs, taken away to be rapped because she dressed provocatively, he said seeing her clothes partly torn, struggling to free her self, shouting,, I shit you not about this story because I was so disturbed about the incident that I asked the elderly person why didn't anyone tried to helped her, and he simply said that no one dared intervene because everyone was simply shocked that such a thing could be happening in front of their eyes and also that because its OSHODI! implying it might be a trap.

more girls are being violated everyday in nigeria and round the world and you people are hear insulting abia state governor, everybody should concentrate on finding out who the victim is and how to stop violation in nigeria and round the world even in the u.s with the highest number of violation cases in the world. insulting the governor will not get us anywhere
You got your fact wrong, USA isn't the country with the highest number of rape cases in the world if that's what you meant by "violation cases", its actually Congo and endemically South Africa, I think Nigeria is trying to join the contest but since we don't keep statistics and record of cases, so I guess that's just an hypothesis, but that doesn't mean that because its happens more in other nations of the world hence Nigeria's case should be considered fair as you response connotes. You say people are here insulting the Abia state governor instead of EVERYBODY to concentrate on finding out whoever the victim is, and then what? Take her to Police station and everyone gets rounded up as the perpetrator, so that the following day the headline news and tabloid could read: "7 Culprits Arrested in connection With Rapped ABSU Girl, others fled". Have you forgotten how the Nigerian police work?

arsenefc:
And Mrs. Ekiti aka Idi-Ileke should know that she is more likely to be r/a/p/e/d in the US, at gun point, than in Nigeria.  As a matter of fact, WRT r/a/p/e , Nigeria is safer than her UF campus. But then, with an "orobo" brain sitting lazily on top an "orobo" body, I am not surprised at her stupidity and brainlessly brainless thread.
arsenefc are you so sure Nigeria is safer a country, because families and relatives of those who lost their lives at that UN headquarter terrorist attack in Abuja would strongly disagree with you, why? because when America and other country affirms no more external attack on their homeland they meant it, they made it so and it was so, BUT here in Nigeria, after the Boko Haram bombing of UN headquarter, they were attacks before and after including threats here and there. You're right Nigeria's national security is infact the best in the world. GEJ and the govt. are always like "We don't condone, " assuring the citizens "Everything is under control". During the last election, the scores of NYSC corpers that lost their lives up north should have been raped instead of killed because you wrote "Nigeria is safer that her UF campus"

Kudos! to them anyway. I pray war doesn't erupt again, because it might be worse than the combination of Sudan, Congo and Somalia crises and of which may affect the whole globe, how? I don't know. I admire Nigeria's resilience up to this extent, however its usually been cemented by the blood of mostly you the southerners, especially the Yorubas.

May I know one president in whole wide world, present and past, whose speeches were not written for them?
You simply didn't get the point. Understand that except in Nigeria, other presidents and past dictators i watch always speak without reading from an already written speech. Very rarely will you see a foreign ruler on TV reading out from a piece of paper, they say whatever they need to convey from their mind. That shows they're truly aware, understand  and are given to that which is been spoken about. For once I haven't watched Tony Blair, or Obama, or McCain, or Clinton, or Angela Merkel, or Bush, or Arnold, etc address the public/media and at the same time looks intermittently at some pieces of papers placed on the pulpit to read whatever he/she has to confer, a deficiency which characterize 95% of our high govt. official. Take for instance, if an incident such as hurricane Katrina or a terrorist attack devastated my county/area/state/nation then what type of president/governor/local govt chairman/councilor am I if I have to read what I intend to say word for word from an already written speech. It indicates that am not genuinely concerned with the situation/issue because its not coming from the heart. I might as well hire 15 standby speech writers to render me a beautifully written, grammatically structured speeches to read out whenever am to speak publicly. This is the style of our so-called leaders here, which in my opinion I think it's bad and long overdone. If you truly mean what you say, then it should come from the heart carefully and eloquently. Only key-points, statistics and lengthy figures should be put down on a paper as reference.
