fellis: Mr. ghostofsparta, why are you taking Qur'anic verses out of context to prove your point?First of all, I don't support the Bible and don't need you to bring forth barrage of violent verses from the bible since you'll only be attacking yourself simply because they are both the same abrahamic religions bent on violent, deception, fear and control. I haven't taken that particular verse out of context. See your defence is shallow because if it was directed to Muslims that were going to engage in war BACK THEN, then what relevance does it presence bear been in the Qu'ran? If it's not an instruction for all Muslims to follow till today then don't you think it could motivate Islamic extremism as perpetrated in modern times? Such verse is liable for deliberate mis-interpretation by some ulterior-motivist to instigate jihad and other political agenda.

fellis: and also shown by certain atheists :xWrong again, no atheist have been insulting. Sauer and LogicMind present logical point deduced from facts and reasoning. Anyway thanks for admitting yours...and em... chew on this picture Mr. Islamist while I bring forth more for your delight and awe

Kay 17: If the lake of fire is an afterlife experience, how come living people are aware of it?Dear atheist, ignore these confuse lots, leave them to me....their blatant dogmas and doctrines always give me the laugh |
Purist: So much maturity on display, I see. You have an "African" mind indeed: completely reflective of the pathetic state of the continent. It's a norm among Nigerians that the best form of defence is INSULTS as shown here on Nairaland by certain religionists. |

ayobase: I live by faith and not by sight....and still, u can still see Him via His wondrous works! Are your ancestors from Judah? You better Stop eating Amala and Iyan again because FYI those foods bears strong oriki associated with certain Yoruba deities. What most of you Nigerian Christians don't realise is that you are all worshipping God of the Jews (Yaweh). You all need to leave Yorubaland that you have destroyed. What has Christianity benefited us since the missionaries shoved it down the throats of our fore-fathers. No electricty, bad roads, corruption and poverty. Let those at the government starts swearing upon Shango, Ayilala and Ogun whether there won't be 500% transparency. One corruption-loving commenter said something about me believing in 'an absolute reality' I don't blame him sha for misconstruing my simple points.
|
fellis:You are wrong. Anyone brave enough to call himself/herself an atheist is one who have chosen reason and intellectual logic over dogmatic indoctrination. Most atheists bear several intelligent reason for their renunciation...while a Muslim-turned-Christian might say 'I dislike the killings in the name of Allah'

Logic Mind: sorry mate. can't meet up. there are lots of info out there if you search. good luck with your thesis. If we can't meet up, Can we at least chat sometimes?. Ofcourse I know there are lot of infos out there but wouldn't mind your critique given your level of reasoning and in-depth analysis. Have you read any of these: God Is Not Great, In God We Trust, Atheist Manifesto, The God Delusion, The End of Faith, The Mind Made Flesh, Religion Explained. What do you think about 'supernaturality' regarding Yoruba Ontology and deities? |
Logic Mind: you are suffering from withdrawal symptoms. we all went through it. it is very tough to let go of a belief you have held since childhood. the body reacts against it. the mind goes into a turmoil and the brain becomes confused.I see you are very intelligent Nigerian and would love to meet up? I am writing a thesis titled: Why I Am Not Yet An Atheist and would really love to discuss certain logical point with you. Just for critique. |
Kay 17: Painting a pagan god with the Abrahamic brush. How so? |
The thing about religion is that we often need a book to guide our daily actions, to prepare us for whatever is to come. I like to not be a "sheep", I like to take my own steps and to act based on the situation. Yet how am I to know what to do to insure my place in wherever afterlife is? Even good morals may not be enough.
Ifa to start with isn't a religion nor isn't an organised faith tethered to a revealed book or what have you. Ifa decipher the binary readings of your psychic essence to obtain which particular orisha/irunmole your were 'horoscopically' born with and the exact 'odu' your temperament, nature, emotions, character is asynchronous with. For instance my Aunty's 'odu' is a type that includes she mustn't owe people anything and must avoid people owing her. And so she's been successful because she heeds her Odu warnings. No book is needed for a guide interpreted by a Pastor. The basis of Ifa is binary which is the computer basic language. |
Okay, How do I categorize myself. I seek religion only when I need it. I still question God's existence, or even if there's a super being. I feel like I should believe and often fears the repercussions of my doubt. On a typical day, I have to be reminded of "God" because I often forget or I choose not to care. I prefer to see things in a more realistic and a less religious perspective. I mean, the bible is heavily leaded with contradictions and was written by man for man of that particular period. However, I still acknowledge that there may be a God.
Belive in what is evidential/provable. There is only one true God, not Yaweh, not Allah, those are for the semites whom millions have died on. Believe in OLODUMARE aka AWAMARIDI. It gave us the knowledge of ewe and egbo, it gave us various deities to address each department of life and specific ori. I assume you are Yoruba so do more research about Ifa. |
Sweetlemon: I can see people here avoided the question I asked earlier. And I ask again. For those of us who call God our father, Can you marry someone who does not recognize, respect, or value someone you call your father?? Can you marry someone who disrespects your father so much that he spells his name with small letter "g", calls him a hoax or a nonentity. Will you marry someone who puts your father down in public? Would you?No religuonist would do that? |
I believe you took what I said out of context. My indifference isn't fixed or based on the subjective experience of these presented gods (their existence); faith to me is sacrosanct so I would not intentionally mock or disqualify another person’s faith because it doesn't register with my experience or reality (but out of curiosity I will generally ask questions). My indifference to the presented gods of the various brands is due to my lack of faith in them and my non-inclination towards them – I have no loyalty or affection to any of them - so if the capabilities of certain gods was proven to me in order to validate their existence to me...well it would be futile as I have already underlined where my apathy really comes from. This mostly arises from my bewilderment as to why god should be partial to particular groups/individuals based on heritage(involuntary) or allegiance(ingratiating) whilst at the same time being credited for creating the whole universe and all its inhabitants. Thus I’m left wondering that the presented god(s) is either biased and/or many have claimed ownership over god(s). And just for the record I would never encourage anyone to prove their god to me because it’s largely personal. And I reiterate...I am not an atheist - I only used such language within a context to explain my position towards religion and its governing deities.
Seriously I can't grasp your constructions. |
Everyone that has ever commented on this otherwise derailed thread knows nothing of what they think they know of. Shymmex talking about Ifa totally got it wrong. Even i who was brought up in it still find it difficult to define in English. Its too wide and extensive. Shymmex narrowing it down to spirituality is just a tip of it. IFA is beyond that...wana tok about spirituality u r bera off wit astral or yoga BS. Kobojunkie: What has Nigeria's amalgamation to do with this? These are the crop of leaders you folks continue to blindly elect. What did you expect? magic?Nigeria's amalgamation has everything to do with this. If the various incompatible tribes hadn't been forcefully made to marry eachother under duress (British gun) would this failed nation ever exist? And FYI I haven't seen considered myself a Nigerian, I am an Oduan, Yorubas have been existing for thousands of years even long before Lugard's greatest of the great grand father started weaning. Also I have never voted because of 1. Wasn't of age 2. Will never unless they begin to swear under the presence of Amadioha, Ayilala, Shango, Ogun and Shokpona The 5 OSASA |
shymmex: And will you believe whatever assertion the scientists put forward as the origin of creation? Why shouldn't I? Is it not through science the internet you are using is possible? is it not through science the loudspeaker and LCDs the church uses is possible? Shymmex scientists adjust their view based on new scientific revelation and unlike religionists who are dogmatic and rigid. The only place where I fall out with white man's science is that they have a mindset that is observes and study ONLY within the boundaries of physical.

Shollypopz: ^^i hope u are not inferring that Christians are not intelligent, open-minded, and intriguing.Christians and Muslims aren't intelligent in my opinion for believing and adhering to things that aren't provable. Jesus turning water to wine is acceptable but a Babalawo that gives me power to do just that is considered demonic from the PoV of a Nigeria Christian or Muslim. Muslims pelting shaitan, a the highly ranked villain in the world whom no human has seen or videoed. But anyone can videoshoot an egungun disappearing and reappearing during the peak of a traditional festival is tagged 'devilish things' because of the longterm brainwasheing from Bible and Pastors some of whom who secretly acquire these powers to convince mugus they are indeed in contact with God.

Goldieluks:Is it the same omniscient God of the Jews aka Jeovah/Yaweh who couldn't reveal visions (Final Destination style) to those reverend and pastors who died at Dana air plane crash? or is he different from the same God that peeps where praying to in a church at Adamawa before Boko Haram sent 25 of them to Heaven in a drive-by. According to IFA, a particular Yoruba deity called Osanyin (deity of ishegun) brought the knowledge supernatural science to Ile-aye and taught Orunmilla (deity and custodian of IFA) wherein is a particular YAS (Yoruba Adavanced Science) called 'ifura' ( that which triggers the body when danger is coming). If Bimbo Odukoya or any of those in Dana and Sosoliso plane crash had put aside their religious indoctrinations, and used it they would have been alive today. But I doubt even offered they wouldn't use it because it so un-Christian....and yet they....just check the pics below:
Well I am only an “atheist” as far as the known and presented god(s) are concerned and it’s not so much because I do not believe they exist (at least metaphorically) it’s because I have no faith in them or inclination towards them. Beyond the perimeter of religion I am not an atheist; I am irreligious.
If the capabilities of Eshu or Ogun was proven to you, would you still think they don't exist ? ofcourse not in our dimension or realm of existence. |
shymmex: Atheism will always be a religion to me, since you guys believe in the big b.ang theory - but not the supernatural being..You are seriously confused about trying to differentiate between religion and Atheism. Atheism is simply non believe in anything supernatural except proven such as the Jeovah God, Satan the Devil, Angel, Al-jin, Ghosts, Buddha, Fairies, etc....you logic becomes self-flawes because it assumes that anyone agreeing to the existence of electrons or gamma rays is into religion. Atheist believe in the Big Bang theory because it suggest credible explanation to the origin of the universe and life form...which I for one agree with only to a certain extent though. |
Goldieluks: If praying does not solve your problems, what does?

swiftycool: @jakumo, bros abeg no vex o. As someone explained I only narrated d story as I was told so u really don't have to set urself on fire for this cause. Perhaps u might need the white man's research into African bullet proff jazz before u believe since u happen to be one so much used to sucking their arse. Good news tho, some guys from Austrailia would soon be releasing their findings on this area of african ocultic vodoo and what they discovered about the contoversial bullet resisting vodoo. When it lands u would get to see and learn from ur white masters as u r used to.Who are the Australian guys? Where can I get the info from? Are they they releasing their findings in a video documentary format? |
I am just tired and sick of this amalgamation called Nigeria. I mean these so called leaders aren't even shameless. What is the way forward....I doubt a revolution, maybe apocalypse |
SNCOQ3: The true God, in His eternal wisdom, has reserved a Day of Judgement for all transgressors. According to the Bible, It is even forbidden to take an oath in His name.So you prefer the transgression of our corrupt and sadistic leaders (whose actions/policies determines the course of our fate) to continue because we should seek solace in the dogma that a day/days have been reserved in the future were they shall be adjudged for their sins..abi? In other words bad leaders and evil people should continue to reign while no one needn't worry about the future of their generation since there's a day of judgment where if found guilty is heading straight to hell..abi? My African brother abeg you too think am na...shey e make sense at all? Statement such as the 'The true God' is the basis of war and slavery in the imperial days. All it takes me to condemn his 'Chineke' or 'Anubis' as demon or a lesser god or as agents of Satan, is to quote a suitable passage from a book I claimed was revealed to me by my God. And what date is the Day of Judgment exactly?, I have been hearing about it since I was 6.

SNCOQ3: ^^^I don't think you're distorting the thread....But I think you've not read the bible. What is it with the Bible? If you were born in China or Japan you would have no reason knowing the Bible or Sanskrit. But because you were brainwashed just like many in Nigeria to accept the Bible has the final authority. |

SimonAndal: @OP, you're unto something. Control them through their fears of the traditional deities. But your argument's got bite-sized holes:Hey SimonsAndal I am not up to anything, if you imply I have an ulterior motive like Lord Blackwood - the fake occultist in the movie Sherlock Holmes who used that line: "control them through their fears"..you are incorrect. My argument doesn't not even factor in the human emotion called 'fear' which is simply an emotional response to percieved threat. My argument does not precludes any to be religious or secular, even if an atheist who doesn't subscribe to anything supernatural in essence does something that incurs a well deserved wrath of Eshu or Ayilala or Shango or Ogun......well, at least Atheists are good at rationalising when it happens... And by 'Hell'...I can tell you that a lot of Nigerians don't understand the Judaeo-Christaeo theological concept called 'Hell'. I personally don't believe in the existence of Hell or Heaven just as I won't accept Nirvana or River Ganghes because I am not an Indian and neither is any African a semite. The concept of Hell shares certain similarity with the Greek's Hades which is also found in the Holy Bible...in all ramifications I can't fathom a more hellish experience than the one I am experiencing in Nigeria. 99% of Nigerians would rather shape up and behave if their environment and society is excellent (not perfect) which is possible ONLY when those who will remain to contest for election are those that won't compromise because of Ayilala, Shango, Ogun and Shopona. |
amery: This thread is senseless pls let's think of D̶̲̥̅̊ way forward and stop thinking backward.......let's be realistic and stop childs play....Amery what's so senseless about the thread? Nigeria buying NSS Thunder warship isn't senseless? Squandering millions of dollars on a satellite that eventually got missing isn't senseless? Paying for electricity bill we don't use isn't senseless? Forcing everyone to wear helmet as if it will protect the head when the tire of a 16-wheeler runs over due to accident cause by the deliberate neglected horrible roads isn't senseless? And so on and so forth. Whst suggestion do you have for a solution. Are you comfortable with the status quo in this country? |
frosbel: These are the kind of nonsense topics dominating Nairaland's religious section these days !!How is it a nonsense topic? |
vanminister: IF OUR LEADERS SWEAR BY TRADITIONAL gOGS OR dOGS, THEY WILL ALL DIE THE NEXT DAY SIMPLY BECAUSE THE TRADITIONAL AFRICAN gODS ARE MERCILESS, EVIL AND SERIALLY MURDEROUS!!! DONT DARE DEM!!!Murderous is out of it o! |
abhosts: Ngige broke the oath he made to a local god and nothing happened to him. Remember Okija? If he actually took a oath as reported, then that particular Okija he took the oath from isn't a genuine one. Like one poster wrote - he should have done it in front of the camera and broadcasted. Its not something can just go and do on his/her own coming out with a video to deceive the world. It is a process that would be properly planned involving tested and confirmed practitioners. |
