A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the ongoing trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. DAILY POST reliably gathered from a source that the court adjourned the ongoing trial of the IPOB leader to October 17 because it’s on “recess.” Kanu alongside three others: David Nwawuisi, Benjamin Madubugwu and Chidiebere Onwudiwe are facing treasonable charges before the Justice Binta Nyako-led court. Recall that the Justice Nyako, who had in April granted Kanu bail on health grounds with 12 conditions, and had fixed today for continuation of the trial. Justice Nyako in her ruling had listed the bail conditions to include, “Produce three sureties and two of whom must be; (a) highly respected and recognized Jewish leader and (b) highly placed Igbo person such as a Senator. The third surety must be resident in Abuja with a landed property in the same Abuja. Above all, the three sureties must deposit one hundred million naira (N100million) each. “Barred from attending any rally and granting any form of interview. “Must not be in a crowd exceeding 10 persons. “Must surrender his British and Nigerian passports even when these passports are still in the custody of the DSS. “Must sign an undertaking to avail himself for trial at all times.” However, the IPOB leader is seen to have flouted some of the bail conditions, as has since been addressing the press and seen in company of more than 10 people. IPOB has, however, dismissed reports of Kanu flouting his bail conditions. Source: BiafraSay Forum http://biafrasay.com/p/327460/biafra-why-court-adjourned-nnamdi-kanu-s-trial-to-october

The Arewa youths president, Yerima Shettima has warned the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu over his agitation for a sovereign Biafra nation. Shettima reportedly berated Kanu saying he is a British citizen and as such should stop disturbing Nigeria’s unity. In an interview with the Punch, the Arewa youths president was quoted to have said “We will not leave this issue to go like that; so, we are not going to do anything that will contradict the laws of the land, we do not intend to go violent. “This is because we do not intend to make people suffer because of his antecedent. “We will take the fight to him, to his domain by following all constitutional means. He claims he is a British citizen also, we will tell him a British can not come to Nigeria and run our country the way he is running it. “We can’t accept that, we will tell him this is our home and we have no better place than here. I believe after this discussion, we will build a country we will all call our own” he concluded. An elder statesman and Muslim leader in Rivers State, Alhaji Abubakar Orlu, has said that country was over ripe for restructuring, stressing that Nigerians should not deceive themselves of being a united nation. Alhaji Orlu made the remark yesterday, in Port Harcourt, while speaking on the state of the nation, emphasizing that without restructuring the country in six geo-political zones, regional agitations would not end. He faulted the condemnation of restructuring by some state governors, stating that no part of the country is not viable and should be allowed to use its resources for development. The elder statesman chided the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government for its lopsided in the federal appointments, pointing out that the marginalisation demonstrated by the government was the bane of the agitations across the country. He stated: “Those, who are not supporting restructuring, are ignorant of what is happening in the country. They are enemies of the country. If they know what restructuring stands for, they will not opposed to it. I want you to know that, Nigeria of today, is not united and we should not deceive ourselves. “Is it not clear that in the South-South and South East, this Federal government has nothing to show? That is not what government is all about. Previous government spent time developing the North. The issue of being voted for or not, should not determine development of an area. Speaking on the Biafra agitation, the Muslim leader cautioned Federal Government that Biafra struggle would not die in the minds of South East people, saying that restructuring could pacify them. “What we need is to appeal to them (Biafra people) to accept restructuring for us to live together in peace as one Nigeria. I want to state that the Biafra struggle is in the minds and blood of South East people and, therefore, cannot die. So, Federal Government should appeal to them to accept restructuring. “Without restructuring this country, Nigeria will find it difficult to live together in peace because there is no unity. Let us restructure this country before the 2019 general elections, so that we can live as one country”, the elder statesman advised. The Indigenous People of Biafra, on Friday, said its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, had not flouted his bail conditions, hence, security agents have no justification to re-arrest him. It added that Kanu had neither held any rally nor protested as instructed by the court, thus, he had not gone beyond the limit set by the court. Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, had, while granting Kanu bail on April 25, 2017, ordered him not to grant press interviews, he should not participate in any rally and should stay away from any gathering of more than 10 persons. But the IPOB leader had in recent days met and addressed large gatherings, and reportedly granted interviews to some foreign news organisations. The development had led to calls, from some quarters, for security agencies to re-arrest Kanu on the grounds of violation of bail conditions. In addition, Saturday PUNCH had exclusively reported on June 3, 2017 that the Federal Government might ask the court to revoke his bail on grounds of alleged breach of the bail conditions granted him in April. Top sources in the Federal Ministry of Justice had said that alleged breaches of the bail conditions by Kanu were being noted and might be used to ask the court to revoke his bail. But IPOB, in response to enquiries by Saturday PUNCH on Friday, said Kanu had not violated the bail conditions given to him by the court. IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, told our correspondent that those who had been converging in thousands on Kanu’s father’s house in Umuahia, Abia State, came to see the IPOB leader on their own volition and that he could not send his visitors away, neither would he decide not to receive them. Powerful said, “Nnamdi Kanu never flouted his bail conditions because the court said he should not go for rallies or protests and he has never done that since his release. But citizens of Biafra and other parts of Nigeria want to see him, that is why you see him with people and these people come to his father’s house. He cannot chase those who want to see him away. Since his release he never called for any rally or protest or press conference. “Don’t you know that if he wants to call the press he will call both local and international media? The court did not bar people from visiting him in his father’s compound. The court did not say he should not visit anyone in the society. Therefore, the security operatives have no justification to re-arrest him because he has never gone beyond their limit or held any rally or protest.” “We are aware that anywhere he visited, people just gather to see who he is in person and he did not put himself in the position he is today – it is by the making of the Most High in Heaven. We wonder why people who fear his electrifying popularity are calling for his arrest – we know that the Nigerian government and her security agencies always like to intimidate people.” The IPOB spokesman said the secessionists were not calling for war but it would only advance its demand for Biafra through civil disobedience and peaceful rallies and protests. The United Eastern Congress Youths have stated that the recent quit notice issued to Igbos residing in the northern region by a coalition of Arewa youths has a political undertone. The group said that for the Arewa youth leaders that tried to incite ethnic violence to still be working free in the country is enough reason that there is more to the quit notice. The organisation also admonished Igbos and other South Easterners living in any part of the country to return back to their ancestral land, insisting that there was no guarantee that their lives and property would be protected in the event that Arewa youths eventually carry out their threat to forcefully evict the Igbos at the expiration of the ultimatum in October, 2017. National Secretary of the Organisation, Omon Ekpenyong, stated this on Friday, in Owerri, the Imo State capital, where he noted that the statement of the northern youths was not only treasonable, but capable of igniting ethnic war in the country. He said, “My people I am greatly worried that up till this moment, nobody has been apprehended over the issue in the north with the Arewa youths, while if it were to be the Christian youths that gave the Hausa’s quit notice, which we are the right people to do so, because of the marginalisation and the killing of Christians in the north. “Our leaders will go as far as ordering the killing and mass arrest of all the youths for prosecution. It is time for us to stand up and also ask them to vacate our terrain for peace to reign. C R K has been removed from their curriculum to study Arabic in the northern schools. I believe it is time for God to do his will, as it happened to the children of Israel in Exodus 12:40-41. “Yes, Governor el-Rufai directed for the arrest of those Arewa youths, but I see it as a mere statement because up till now no meaningful arrest has been made and at the same time, they are gaining the support of a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria. The co-convener of the coalition of Northern groups Yerima Shettima even made it open that he has the support of his Elders. What are we not talking of. Is our perception not coming to reality.” “When did Shettima Yerima and his collaborators become the Nigerian law enforcement agency? This is to show how marginalised the south is. This issue is related to beating a child and asking him not to cry which is the highest level of suppression. If I may ask, the northerners who come to the south and make little or no investment, don’t even pay house rent and have nothing to add to the region’s resource and well-being and the southerners who invest without any rethink. Who amongst them have the unity of the nation in mind? Asking Igbo to leave any region of Nigeria is baseless. “The Igbo have over N44 trillion investments in the north, that we know, but their lives are more important than those things “As we are beckoning on the Federal Government and security operatives to protect our people, the Igbo should get ready to defend themselves in case there arise any attack from the Arewa youths.” Source: BiafraSay Forum http://biafrasay.com/p/326567/had-it-been-igbos-issued-the-quit-on-north-buhari-would-have |

Ohanaeze youths said they would rather prefer a restructuring exercise to be overseen by an Igbo leader or a leader from the South but not from the North. According to them, any restructuring conducted by the Buhari administration would definitely favour the North, thereby leading to continuation of the agitations. Secretary General of the Council, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, who said this, explained that restructuring of Nigeria overseen by a leader from the South would definitely ensure equity and fairness to all parts of the country. Meanwhile, the council has alleged plan by unnamed Igbo leaders to plan the arrest and detention of its leader, Maxi Okechukwu Isiguzoro over statements the group has been issuing in support of Biafra agitation. Youth leaders to hold confab on Biafra, restructuring In another development, plans have been concluded by youth leaders in the Niger Delta region to hold a conference on the current agitations for the realisation of Biafran state and calls for restructuring with a view to coming up with a position. A statement by the chairman of the Nigerian Young Professionals Forum and former governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Mr. Moses Siasia, said the gathering, which would hold in Port Harcourt, was informed by the current debate on restructuring. The statement read: “60 carefully selected young leaders across the Niger Delta will be meeting in Port Harcourt next week over calls for the immediate restructuring of the country by prominent Nigerians and geopolitical groups on the basis of a growing national consensus to redefine the connections that bind the country and the disturbing hate comments from many groups.” “The roundtable meeting was born out the current national discourse on the need to restructure the country and redefine our existence as a people. “The meeting will also address internal issues in the region, such as the need for political leaders who are occupying public trust to be more accountable to the people. It will fashion out economic solutions that will aid the much need growth and development in the Niger Delta so that those who are into productive ventures in the society would be encouraged with the aim of moving out of the old order, where miscreants are celebrated.” Source:BiafraSay Forum http://biafrasay.com/p/326500/we-ll-reject-restructuring-done-by-buhari-govt-ohanaeze-yout |
The directive by the leader of Indigenous the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to shun the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State by Biafrans is now a source of worry for Stakeholders of Willie Obiano second Tenure organization. This was disclosed by the National Coordinator of the group Chief Ekene Enefe who warned against the dangers of shunning the election and urged IPOB to retract its statement. Chief Enefe, who spoke at Akwu Ukwu town in Idemili South Local Government Area, of the state during a town hall meeting of the support group in the area day, said that such directive is not good for development in Igbo land. About 1,500 members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and people from other political parties gathered to give their support for Governor Willie Obiano’s second term bid during the town hall meeting. According to Chief Enefe, IPOB members plan to stop the governorship election in Anambra State because, because of no conduct a referendum, first to determine the emergence of Biafra nation should know that their action would amount to a disservice to Anambra State and disruption of peace. They should allow the conduct of peaceful, free and fair election election in the State and not to draw the State backwards, politically, the issue of referendum would be handled according to the law and should not be used as a mechanism to cause crisis in a peaceful State like Anambra. “Disruption of the election would be confronting government of the day under Governor Obiano who had been doing everything humanly possible to ensure that democracy dividends got to every nook and cranny of the State. “Security, agricultural revolution, prompt payment of workers’ salaries including pensioners are among the major achievements of the Obiano administration, they should consider that they should consider and allow the election to be conducted for the Governor return for second tenure to complete all he started.” Sponsor of the event, Chief Chuma Obiekwe thanked Governor Obiano for what he had done for the community so far, especially in the area of road reconstruction but requested that his community should be considered for government appointments which he said had eluded them over the years. He also called for completion of all abandoned government projects in the area. A member of the All Progressives Congress,APC, Mr Cosmas Eze gave a pass mark for Obiano but lamented that his Umuikuku village in Akwu Ukwu was about to be washed away by a devastating gully erosion and called upon the Governor to come to their rescue. It would be recalled that the leadership of the IPOB issued a threats that it willhence forth not allow any election to take place in the entire South East starting with the November 18, 2017 governorship election in Anambra State until a referendum is conducted for the restoration of Biafra. Amid growing calls for secession, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, says Nigerians who preach unity will overcome those calling for secession. Symington said this in a speech at an event held in commemoration of the 241st anniversary of American independence in Abuja on Thursday. The US envoy said his country and Nigeria shared many similarities, most notably, diversity. He said the first American President, George Washington, had warned that those who seek to weaken a country would always seek to start by causing disunity. Symington said, just like America, Nigeria would remain a united country because of its determined people and leaders. He said, “Every time we have been challenged, we overcame danger because we had visionary leaders committed to union and citizens committed to ensuring justice for all. “Today, Nigeria is fortunate to have such leaders and citizens. Together, they are dedicated to keeping Nigeria united and just and to ensuring every Nigerian is heard and taken into account and treated fairly. “Together, those Nigerians will overpower any call to divide this nation. “Thanks to them, thanks to you, the lamp of unity and justice burns brightly both in our nations tonight. And the sight of a united Nigeria’s light lifts Africa and with it, the world.” The US envoy said Nigeria’s diversity is an inspiration to many countries. He said that, just like the US, Nigeria’s plurality was a source of strength. Symington added, “Wherever I meet a Nigerian, I ask ‘What do you like the most about your country?’ I like our diversity, our resilience, our energy, our warmth, our spirit, our food.’ “Just like the United States, Nigeria is a wonderfully diverse nation whose differences and diversity are sources of strength and reason for pride.” Source: BiafraSay Forum http://biafrasay.com/p/326479/biafra-nigeria-will-defeat-separatist-agitations-says-us |
President Donald Trump’s revised travel ban is set to come into force today after the initial one was widely criticised as a ban on Muslims. The Supreme Court partially restored the president’s executive order earlier this week. It banned people from six mainly Muslim countries from applying for admission to the US. With the ban comes new criteria for visa applicants as follow: Which countries are affected by the ban? • Under the new guidelines, new visa applicants from Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Iran and Yemen must prove a relationship to a ‘close’ relative already in the US to be eligible for a US visa. • The same requirement, with some exceptions, holds for refugees from all nations that are still awaiting approval for admission to the US. Who counts as a ‘close’ relative? • Grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, fiancees or other extended family members are not considered to be close relationships, according to the guidelines sent to all US embassies and consulates late on Wednesday. When does the travel ban start? • The new rules take effect at midnight GMT tonight (8pm EDT in the US). • As far as business or professional links are concerned, the State Department said a legitimate relationship must be ‘formal, documented and formed in the ordinary course rather than for the purpose of evading’ the ban. Who is exempt from the ban? • Journalists, students, workers or lecturers who have valid invitations or employment contracts in the US would be exempt from the ban. • Consular officers may grant other exemptions to applicants from the six nations if: they have ‘previously established significant contacts with the United States’ ‘significant business or professional obligations’ in the US; they are an infant, adopted child or in need of urgent medical care; they are traveling for business with a recognised international organisation or the US government; they are a legal resident of Canada who applies for a visa in Canada. Where does the exemption not apply? • The exemption does not apply to those who seek a relationship with an American business or educational institution purely for the purpose of avoiding the rules. • A hotel reservation or car rental contract, even if it was pre-paid, would also not count, it said. SEVEN pro-Biafra groups Wednesday agreed to work together under the leaders of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, with the aim of achieving faster the their quest for referendum that will lead to the emancipation of Republic of Biafra. The groups said that they decided to work together so that they would be speaking with one voice seeking for one objective of securing the Republic of Biafra. Well over 5000 people from the various groups converged on Afaraukwu, native home of Nnamdi Kanu to witness his appointment as the over leader of Biafra. The groups were the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Biafran Revolutionary Organization, BRO, Eastern People Congress, EPC, Joint Revolutionary Council of Biafra, JRCB, Biafra Liberation Crusaders, BLC, and Salvation People of Biafra, all of who agreed to work indiscriminately with the Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB to pursue the Republic Biafra. Rising from a closed down with Kanu, Comrade Uchenna Madu addressed journalists on their decision. He said the decision was to work together and speak with one voice under a central leader, saying however that all the groups still exist but would be speaking with one voice more so as the quest for referendum hits up. “Distinguished members and great people of Biafra and supporters of divine mission of emancipation of the land of Biafra from the oppressing Nigeria State, we salute you. Today as we stand in this holy land of Bifra in unique and brotherly gathering to honour our own brother who distinguished himself in the self determination struggle for Biafra actualization and restoration. “Today in honour of our supreme leader, Chukwu Okike Abiama and in remembrance of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, we the people of Biafra under the representation of all the pro-Biafra groups hereby adopt and declare our brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as the new leader of Biafra Nation, whose under his leadership, through the grace of Chukwu Okike Abiama shall the people of Biafra rest. “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s leadership shall bring unity, peace, progress and brotherly love among the esteemed people of Biafra through the instrumentality of mutual and intimate understanding among the pro-Biafra groups”, the declaration read by MASSOB leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu said. Kanu Reacts In his reaction, Nnamdi Kanu said that he was humbled by the decision of the various groups and assured that h would not let them down. “I am humbled by this decision of the groups, we started together and we have all ended up together because we are sincere and purposeful. I am not in the habit of letting my friends down, that thing you said I cannot do is what I will down. “Everybody will be carried along; if I am invited for any meeting I will take some people along. Today is a great day for Biafran all over the world. Today we have shamed our enemies think that we cannot come together, who think that if when we get Biafra we will kill ourselves, we have shamed them”. In answer to a question, Kanu said he did not believe in the restructuring of Nigeria being called by eminent Nigeria, saying that Nigerian Government would not keep any agreement reached in the restructuring exercise. According to him, it is a referendum or nothing. He said that Aburi agreement was reneged by Nigerian Government and that the 2014 National Conference was dumped where it was coated by dust until the Biafra agitation became intense and it was remembered. On whether the IPOB has formerly written to the United Nations demanding referendum, Kanu said that the best letter was the continuous civil disobedience which he said serves as “handwriting on the wall for the Government, they wake up to see it every day”. “We are going to compel the powers that be to recognize the inevitability of the referendum. Man made the law, man will change it. We will continue to deploy civil disobedience. It is not war, it is self-determination”, Kanu said. UN OBSERVER. A United Nations observer, Prof. Nwaimo Emma was around yesterday to see what was going on. According to Nwaimo, who said he is a professor of religion, he was overwhelmed with the crowd he saw and said that he would report back to the United Nations the true position of what he observed. WE HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE IN IGP Meanwhile, the leader of Afenifere Youths, Eric Olawale has said that the Afenifere youths have totally lost confidence in the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris over his failure to arrested the Arewa Youths who gave the Igbo quit notice from the North. Olawale also said that they have lost confidence in the Northern governors over the same issue, saying with their action they have failed to provide leadership. Olawale who said he was in Umuahia in solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu and other pro-Biafra groups, said that they are also keenly interested in having Oduduwa Republic. He said that they came to give support to Kanu because they all part of Southern Nigeria, and will not watch and see their brother being punished.
