@choice.A
my experience has been that whenever i am asked for proof of something such as purgatory, and i point out bible verses, i often get 'that is not that verse means'.
the emphatic word in the posting you quoted is 'more' valid
if we are both christians, supposedly schooled in the Word, so who is Bleep to come and tell me that that is not what so and so particular verse means. he is not God, so as equal human beings, what makes his own interpretation more valid? that is my question
finally, in no place did i say my own interpretation was more valid than Bleep, because i have never said to so and so, you are wrong and i am right, after all i dont run around defending purgatory, it was Bleep who came to me
i hope you see what i am trying to get at now, in summary i was not challenging the interpretations of others, i was challenging their right to assert that their interpretation is more valid than mine

@choice.A

do not make the mistake of projecting either yourself or chrisd on me, wetin consain me with you and him wahalahuh?? if the man has had bad experiences with prostestant church, that is him and from ive seen of his postings, i feel for him too, how will a church be treating another church like leper, those ppl are also exhibiting hatre. if you have question for him, he is here, ask him!

as per the quote on peter being the pope, pope simply means father, or something along those lines, so in essence peter was the first father of the church,

i will not quote, but the relevant passages
when jesus asked peter such and such times 'do you love me' and asked if he would take care of his flock and peter agreed
when jesus said to peter, you are my rock and on you i will build my church or something like that sha, i dont have my bibeli with me right now

in return also quote for me where they said women should not wear trousizz to church lol.
also quote for me where they said gay marriage should not be sanctioned by law, not by the church oh, by law
also quote for me where they said wearing earrings and such is wrong
you see all these things are extrapolations and interpretations too.

all this your 'no tradition, no intepretation' does not hold water with me, i simply tried to let you see that the church draws evidence from both the bible and how it interpretes it as well church tradition. i did not say you must to agree, after all for you to argue with someone, you must understand the other persons arguments and the premise of that argument

i NEVER said in any of my postings that only the catholic church's interpretations are valid, i asked 'what makes your interpretation more valid' i am just saying that no one can say my intepretation is wrong just like that, b/c as far as i am concerned, they are not God.

lastly, there were many books written about the life and times of JC, some were heresy many were not, the essence of choosing the books that make the bible is thru discernment, which ones help us with our spiritual journey in life, if it doesnt help, it dont need to be in the bible, but that does not mean it is not relevant for other things, this is why sola scriptura is such a dangerous concept, ppl make it seem as tho nothing else survived from the time of christ, not true

@chrisd, ash wednesday is here oh! what are you doing for lenthuh

@slim nike, haba now did you take geography or social studies in primary school?
nigeria, the whole of it is blessed with natural resources, evn if it is groundnut, or sesame seed, or cattle it is still a natural resource, evn though the groundnut trade is now dead thanks to oil, it was a HUGE thing back in the day, with ppl coming from places like scotland sef to chop their own, hence some white nigerians in kano. havent you seen those groundnut pyramids on a naira note, i suggest we all look at a primary school atlas, ahn ahn on those maps of natural resources the legends were even fighting for space on the map, nigeria is blessed in all quarters, let us not say that so and so has nothing it is not true, even now those cows you eat a lot of them are thanks to fulani bororoje

@otokx i feel you but err in the case of univeristy admission, this thing is called affrimative action the whole merit, catchment and state thing, i agree it is very bad and should be gotten rid of, it was designed to help northerners (though it backfired) not discriminate against southwesterners so dont vex

again, oil companies are not your friends, they are very ammoral (note, the agip story) , kick em' out! but with intelligence oh, because these are not small boys, you think they care about your land (note oil spills and gas flaring), are they nigerians? is royal dutch shell royal naija shell lol? to make matters worse they are in cohorts with some dodo ppl in this country

intelligence and foresight is the way forward! remember in the bible, when the smaller army was fighting the big one, they did not rush headlong into war, they strategized!

@ono,
a lot does not mean all
just because they are at the top of the range does not mean they are qualified to be there, or are competent to be there
furthermore, they are the top, but not the forefront of things, i hope this is not confusing, they are not at the helm of management, evn shell where the MD is nigerian, the man is edo

besides i am asking owo his honest to God opinion, b/c as for me i have not seen evidence of this

Music/RadioRe: Pussycat Dollz: Hot or Not? by gigitte(f): 5:59am On Mar 01, 2006
“Inside every woman is a Pussycat Doll,” says Robin Antin, the innovator behind the singing-and-dancing ensemble that has risen from underground cool to major label hot.  “It’s about female empowerment, about being confident with who you are.  It’s about singing and dancing in front of a mirror by yourself and having fun.”

With their debut album, PCD, set for release by A&M Records on September 13, 2005 (led by the #1 smash “Don’t Cha,” a duet with Busta Rhymes and produced by Cee-Lo), The Pussycat Dolls go beyond being extraordinarily beautiful.  With tremendous voices, and after working with today’s top songwriters and producers (including Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas, Timbaland, Rich Harrison, Sean Garrett and Ron Fair), The Pussycat Dolls are ready to stamp their mark on music and on attitudes.

“To me, a Pussycat Doll is fearless but also vulnerable,” says lead singer Nicole Scherzinger.  “We’re strong but we like to play too.  The line in ‘Don’t Cha’--‘don’t cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me’--is meant to be empowering.  The Pussycat Dolls are not about just being hot but also about saying something with real feeling.”

From triple-threat Scherzinger, to Jessica Sutta, the one-time captain of the Miami Heat dance troupe; from Carmit Bachar, the “La Vida Loca” girl on Ricky Martin’s world tour, to Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt, two of the most talented young dancers in Hollywood, and Melody Thornton, a young powerhouse singer, these Pussycat Dolls represent the next step for the group whose Sunset Strip performances became the hippest ticket in Hollywood.

The Pussycat Dolls were born in a tiny dance studio in the L.A. garage of actress Christina Applegate, with whom Antin was rooming in the early ‘90s.  Antin had appeared in commercials, and did choreography for music videos for the likes of Smash Mouth, The Offspring and No Doubt.  “But I wanted to do something creative and different,” she says.

So Antin invited over a few girlfriends who were also tour/music video dancers and they began to play around with her own choreography, a style endowed with the spirit of famed choreographer Bob Fosse (“Sweet Charity,” “Cabaret”) but also music from Led Zeppelin to punk rock, Siouxsie and The Banshees to Bjork, and fashion as well.  Meanwhile Applegate suggested they perform at the Sunset Strip’s renowned Viper Room.  Owner Johnny Depp saw them rehearse and reportedly said, “This is why I opened a club.”  The Pussycat Dolls, which have seen many members in its evolving lineup since debuting in 1995, became the Thursday night opening act for the next six years.

A turning point came in 2000 when No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani came to a show and said she’d love to do a guest spot, not just to dance but to sing.  So did Christina Aguilera.  In 2002 it was time to take the show to a bigger venue and so The Pussycat Dolls moved to The Roxy.  For two shows a week, for seven weeks, the place was sold out.  Other guest performers included Brittany Murphy, Charlize Theron, Nikka Costa, Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson.  All of them appeared without pay, just for the fun of it, including emcee Applegate.

That same year, Antin joined forces with Jimmy Iovine, Chairman, Interscope Geffen A&M, who in turn brought in A&M President Ron Fair to executive produce the project and help take the concept to a higher level.

Their “We Went As Far As We Felt Like Going” was heard in 2004’s Shark Tale, their cover of the standard “Sway” (helmed by Fair, also producer for Aguilera and the Black Eyed Peas, among others) was heard in 2004’s Shall We Dance?  The Pussycat Dolls were also seen in 2003’s Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Pink’s “Trouble” video as well as 2005’s Be Cool.  Scherzinger was featured with Will Smith on “If U Can’t Dance (Slide)” on his 2005 Lost And Found album.

Today, there is a Pussycat Dolls line of makeup from Stila and The Pussycat Dolls Lounge opened in April 2005 inside Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, featuring a different roster of performers.  The future may hold a line of clothing, lingerie, perfume,
videogames, TV and movie projects, and other lounges.

at least it is recognized that some are dancers adn some are singers, unlike DC where ms. knowles was shafting everybody

lol, who complied this bible, was it not the catholic church?

when the vatican make this announcement that they would stop promoting purgatory, even if they did? ehen? they didnt say they were removing it as doctrine, perhaps some ppl were looking at purgatory and doing their minimum best to get there instead of aiming for heaven

finally, all this 'it is not in the bible' does not hold water, because the catholic church does not believe in sola scriptura, it also believes in tradition. it maintains that the peter was the first pope and thus the church has existed since peter. also when the church provides evidence from the bible and interprets it in a certain way, who are you to come and say 'that is not what it means' lol, are you Godhuh what makes your own interpretation more validhuh
Christianity EtcRe: Should Catholic Priests be Allowed to Get Married? by gigitte(f): 4:17am On Mar 01, 2006
hey all
1. the catholic church's ruling that priest should not marry is not biblical, nor is it dogma, they've never said God said they should not marry, after all was aaron not married? was simon not married? not allowing priests to marry is canon, church law, meaning that it is very hard to change but can still be changed.
2. i feel it is indeed hard to combine both. some people can do it, many cannot. just as some homosexual priests can control the urge while others cannot. not all catholic priests are parish priests, so a comparison with modern day protestant churches and especially pentencostal churches are poor at best.
3. there are married catholic priests, in the east orthodox churches also considered catholic, marriage is allowed. a very small number of ppl already married are allowed to become priests (i didnt tell you oh, this is not for you to tell your brother to write to rome and ask for his hidden wife and kids to be approved lol), priests who convert from other faiths keep their wifes. admittedly many catholic priests who do want to marry are pissed off by this.
4. at mosiate, how do you know that in your orthodox churches this kind of thing has never happened? this is a very dangerous assumption to make. sexual harassment occurs in a lot places. i am happy that the ashiru of the catholic church was blown wide open so we can better deal with it. what about numerous other churches both protestant, and orthodox and pentecostal where such happens, but wide media coverage is not given. please google for more info
5. @exu, pls do not put words into the mouth of the church, have you read official church documents? or are you speaking from hearsay? the catholic church accepts homosexuals as full humans beings. it accepts that homosexuality and homosexual tendencies are many times innate. what is does not support is homosexual acts, or the support of the homosexual lifestyle. it maintains that homosexuality is intrinsically disordered, namely Bleep did not ask for it (im sure this one will cause wahala) and that all those with homosexual tendencies are called to a life of celibacy, however hard and evil to some ppl that may sound, basically dont act on your homosexual desires. the church stresses that homosexuals should not be discriminated against in anyway (this does not include the sacrament of holy matrimony oh, note i did not say marriage)
6. finally, in my OWN opinion, i feel gay ppl should be allowed to have same rights as domestic partners, lol after all both are wrong, it is either all or nothing

finally, i noticed that an overwhelming majority of the ppl who complain are not priests themselves. this is very much like the west showing women who put on hijab and abaya as being subjugated by men, as opposed to showing them as simply religious women

my own two cents
PoliticsRe: Niger Delta: What Is The Problem? by gigitte(f): 7:54pm On Feb 28, 2006
owo:
Lady gigitte, may it be that you have not bitten more than you can chew. Please read many other similar threads on this forum where most of your concerns have been addressed and placed where they belong.

Your assertions and reference to where your father and his brother works betrays so many things. Be assured that some of the people that post here do not only work in these companies, but are also Niger Deltans, who are top of the range in their chosen profession.

Your declaration that there are no N. Deltans with the requisite skills to work in these organisations is laughable.
If so how come Akwa Ibom, Delta etc are classified as educationally advantaged and their wards consequently denied admission into universities across the country?

In any case to avoid any contradiction and to help you in your superiority complex
1. N. Deltans are not looking for work now (they did so twenty five years ago). They want to control what is theirs. Then, they will give work to as many as they want
2. N. Deltans are not seeking your sympathy, they want to be in a position to give sympathy and help the less privileged societies of the world.
3. N. Deltans know and believe that their destiny is more secured in their hands than in the hands of any other person.
4. N.Deltans believe that these issues need to be accomplished (addressed) now and not tomorrow
first i must tender apologies to anyone who believes i have shown a superiority complex, this is not true.
what does having relatives who work for oil companies reveal? these are my opinions based on what i have seen heard and observed
owo, what makes you think i am not a person from the niger delta?
please, point me to these appropriate forums where my posted opinions have been rehashed and debated, thanks
if in any way i signified that all niger deltans were lacking in skills forgive me? i do agree with you that a lot of niger deltans are at the top of the range. but do you honestly think that they could manage crude oil production right now, today, if it were left to themhuh
furthermore, assuming they could effectively and efficiently manage crude oil production today, what does that change? after all are these niger deltans in top positions at the forefront of the emancipation fight?
well and good if niger deltans are educationally advantaged. in reference to the quota system, i didnt say these people pusing to be hired were incompetent, rather a lot of times there are people with better skills and expericnce who are more suited to the job, yet they are passed over due to the quota, or even because these oil companies like to have expats.
i don't know if niger deltans are looking for work or not but i must wonder all these people kidnapping and causing unrest, is that their part time job, what indeed is their educational background?
lastly, assuming that the oil is theirs which it is not, is kidnapping people and demanding ransom the way to do ithuh? this not sound to me like the game plan of educated, informed people.

in fact i think am more confused than before, they are not looking for jobs, okay, ba wahala, in fact they occupy top positions in energy companies, sometimes sef they support thieving governors. all in all they want to control what is theirs. how do they want to control ithuh
is it by ensuring all who work in oil companies are from the niger delta?
all the oil money goes to them?

i feel that one must ask the questions  why is the area so underdeveloped?does the FG forget to give them money? is the money not enough? what has been done with the one already given out

longer throat, fighting and myopia is not the way foward.

i may be wrong, but i feel that there are nigerdeltans who operate small scale oil companies, i cannot think of a name now. instead of kidnapping people why not highlight these oil companies as being competent enough to deal with the nigerian oil sector (assuming they are) and then push at various levels for rewriting whatever in such a way that the foreign oil companies are pushed out

CultureRe: Historical Relation Between Edo And Yoruba Culture And Politics by gigitte(f): 4:13am On Feb 28, 2006
hello nferyn,
the relationship between the yorubas and the binis is hotly contested. most yoruba ppl from the seven towns (the ones originally descended from oduduwa) will tell you the binis come from them, while most binis will tell you otherwise. infact, the oba of the bini ppl, i forgot his name, i think it has ereuwa in it or sumn, the name of the book is sha ' i remain your humble servant' or something like that and he is a very highly respected figure, considered divine in some ways sef, and he wrote that the yorubas can from the binis i.e oduduwa was a bini prince. many a university professor disputed this claim and ppl have been arguing back and forth since then.

however, note that while the bini ppl constitute a part of edo state, the people descended from oduduwa, encompass a great part of lagos, ife etc etc , note that these ppl do not include various other yoruba sub groups like the ijebus, the egbas, the ekitis. so i would say that the smaller group broke off from the larger group. again note, bini is quite different from yoruba, in language respects in mean, in fact another group the itsekiri, have a language way similar to that of the yoruba ppl, i think they broke off from them.

this is what i learnt in school, lamurudu, a random man left saudi arabia or some middle eastern place like so because of the advent of islam, he wanted to worship his gods in peace. somehow he died and his son oduduwa got to ile ife and settled down, he had seven sons and they formed seven towns some of which include ketu and iddo, sha the last was oranmiyan who was the dude who founded the bini kingdom. note how my account is vastly different from the above postings

you can read the history of the yorubas by michael crowther i think, not sure if that is the true author

PoliticsRe: Niger Delta: What Is The Problem? by gigitte(f): 12:39am On Feb 28, 2006
it is NOT their money, and this is the kind of attitude that causes all this niger delta wahala. it is unfortunate that nigeria is stupidly dependent on oil money but the niger delta cannot come and claim it is their oil. it is nigeria's oil finish! back in the days of groundnut money and agriculture, we did not see anybody claiming that it is OUR money, thus we should get so and so amount of money. now i know that a lot of nice things were done with this groundnut/cocoa money, nice things which have not been done in the niger delta, whose fault is thathuh? they already get more than other states based on their contribution. but who are the governors of the states, is it obasanjo? is it a man called chukuma? is it a man called sanni? no! it is one of their own, so please look into your eye and remove the log there first. when alami came back, people were hailing him, and yet they are kidnapping people and saying what? abeg jare go and siddon, evn if alami had stolen half the money he got from the FG, there was still enough to do something tangible in bayelsa. have we seen the tangiblehuh a'a! not only is the niger delta faced with corruption, it is faced with lack of skills and this itself  is the real tragedy, LACK OF SKILLS. if the niger delta was indeed emancipated today and they formed their nice little country, perhaps yes all of them would be able to live in mansions, and drive fifty cars, but the fact remains is that they would not be able to manage their interests, and would need shell, mobil and chevron and co to rape them and their land while giving them peanuts. maybe after all the fish in the rivers have died, and the land is no longer arable they would move to yankee. when the oil has finished as it soon, what will happen? why are they demanding money from these oil companies? money that will not get to them, money that will be used to do what? eat for the next five years but send no one to school? instead of these people to go to school with the intention of obtaining the skills to manage the oil for themselves, for nigeria, they are busy there kidnapping people. this is a case of longer throat, show me someone who really and truly cares. if they did they would saying emancipation of nigeria from foreign oil companies.

while i sympathise with abject poverty in which these people are living, considering that obj and co, as well as royal dutch shell and co are getting fat, they are going about it the ignorant way. already the oil companies have a quota for ijaw, itsekiri people and the like to fulfil in their companies? but is this helping? no! oftentimes they have to hire a less competent itsekiri/ijaw person just to fulifil quota. this jeopardises the functions of the company esp if we are talking about hospitals and this jeopardises the people themselves, because they say ehn they are employing us we are satisfied, but if you don't have the skills you wil never advance adn the oil companies will sit back and say ehn we have fulfilled the quota, shi ke na!

please educate your people, be patriotic, stop screaming our oil our oil, that is nonsense, respect the environment above all else, because oil will finish one day, and all the fish dead, wetin you go do thenhuh

i've been coming to the nairaland website for a long long time now. i just had to register to put in my fifty kobo
1. i sincerely doubt that this is a christian/moslem thing. please note that no-body in lagos is killing anybody. could it be that a yoruba man would rather play ayo and drink palm wine, or watch the telly rather than carry machete and start killing christians or moslems who happen to be his tribal brothers. please laugh with me at this suggestion. after all it is quite common to find moslems and christians in the same yoruba family. methinks, that this is a case of tribal tension between the ibos and the hausas. why, i honestly cannot say. could it be because ibo ppl are very enterprising and dominate trade in the north. i heard sabon gari (new town, ibo) is the commercial capital of the kano. could it also be because of long simmering resentment due to the civil war. i think not, because the killings usually start from the north and it is ibos who continue to complain about marginalization. if this tribal hatred is true, man im too sad. this is how parents will poison their own children to hate other tribes. can you imagine, my roommate who only goes to nnewi once in some years thinks all ibos in nigeria are being marginilized, why? her parents said so. imagine oh, and she lives in the US. please oh, teach your kids to be nigerian first!
2. it might very well be political and tied to the third term agenda, in which case our ibo brothers are playing into the hands of whoever.
3. whatever the case may be, while it may seem well that our ibo brothers want to show the north what they are made of. remember that whoever dies fighting the cause of islams gets some number of virgins with pointy breasts in heaven. so these innocent hausa ppl in the east are not serving as deterrents, because their hausa brothers in the north know that they are being rewarded, so why not kill more infidel ibos who will defn not be getting any virgins. thus, another solution must be sought

all in all, im happy to have joined the nairaland family
