hey chinani thanks for the tips i hope i get the job sha

as per the last post very true
it also however depends on what kinda children you have but a lot of it has to do with you the parent, if you are too strict , you could end up with preacher kids syndrome, if you are too lax you could end up with the same, best is to ask God to direct you to get a good balance. i mean look at the bible, samuel's kids were seven different kinds of messed up, he was probably lax in raising those kids but they too were also bad eggs, sleeping with women in the temple hehe, that is the kind of thing you decide to do on your own, nobody teaches you that, after all how many of their peers were getting it on with the women in the temple
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Job Opportunities For Someone Who Can Write Well? by gigitte(f): 10:32pm On Apr 19, 2006
almost any company! because companies put out a lot of written material these days and need ppl to edit
do you have a scientific background? excellent! you are better equipped then
publishing houses like macmillian, spectrum, evans etc are also goldmines
advertising and public relations companies, why not be a copy writer?
magazines and newspapers
why not put out a cv for yourself very nice one oh
and market yourself to all these companies
point out that a lot of print media in naija today is poorly written, poorly edited, never following rules of grammar etc etc, which is very true. anyone ever read city people? iyama writing
point out your skills, a few articles you've written. also try to write for newspapers for free usually. my friend has done it (the guardian) and she was only 16/17. that way you can include such in your portfolio
better yourself by reading books such as the chicago manual of style and such which will greatly help your writing and editing skills
on the side, write a novel, novella or short stories
you can do it! we need good english in nigeria lol
if you are desperate, try city people, sell yourself well and bullshit the hell out of them, sound educated and suave cos those ppl have wide circulation but damn do they need better writers and editors
you will also meet very important ppl so you can network with and further yourself
holla back!
EducationRe: Why We Love Nigerian Boarding Schools by gigitte(f): 10:21pm On Apr 19, 2006
i disagree with that statement rolly, atlantic hall also has a boarding house, a lot of posh schools are also boarding schools or at least a mixture
exceptions are places like
lekki british
AIS
british international
whitesands
and these schools lack the space to have dorms that is why
lagoon, tho they will probably have boarders at their permanent location
also a-hall will be all boarding at epe, its permanent location
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Working With Chevron Or Nigeria LNG? by gigitte(f): 8:38pm On Apr 19, 2006
ewo see me see wahala, i only offered to help honeyworld because he had a degree in sociology and can find a job in the HIV/AIDS industry, not chevron grin

i will obviously soon remove my addy as soon as he mails me the cv

as for hotstepper, well it depends, are you applying to them in yankerz or naija, do you hope to eventually be working in naija? if you are not directly related to oil production and management eg an engineer or manager or sumthing relating to the business part of it, they will indeed rape u up the ass. honestly there are so many things i mean by that statement and it is from experience, just know that they wont treat you well esp in naija, cos there are many ppl who want your job and can do it as well, so in summary you arent indispensible
CultureRe: Raising Your Children The Nigerian Way When Married To A Foreigner by gigitte(f): 8:30pm On Apr 19, 2006

Hi.
I'm British, My Husband is Nigerian.

Whilst I understand that there are a lot of badly spoken / badly behaved people out there and (I don't mean to sound funny) that a lot of nigerians seem to believe that white women are how shall I say huh Loose and don't fight for their marriage and the children here can be disrepectful.
well i am sure you were not loose and disrespectful when your husband married you, and you are not so now. but many a nigerian has seen many an oyinbo who just seems this way, note the 'nanny' reality shows on tv. also it seems a lot of times that american or british cultures from an outsiders stand point dont really have a culture or at best it is bland (i know this is not true, im just reporting) and what they do see, they dont like e.g drinking culture, certain freedoms.

just pointing out

@bigsis, no one is lording anything over anybody grin , bad rearing practices are bad rearing practices

please do not play chinese whispers on this thread. eniola did not say anything about superior african values and she has repeated that, it was seun that brought it up from thin air seemly, so do not direct the thread on a slant that the original poster did not intend
TV/MoviesRe: Big Brother Nigeria by gigitte(f): 1:39am On Apr 18, 2006

lol@kimba

it did sound a lot like seun our omnipotent admin, but i was like nnah! his name cant be nwoke lol
CultureRe: Raising Your Children The Nigerian Way When Married To A Foreigner by gigitte(f): 9:11pm On Apr 17, 2006
Nwoke:
If Nigerian cultural values are superior, then why is our country lagging behind in all sectors? Count yourself lucky that you have a husband who leaves you to run his family as you wish. I would never allow that.
just the kind of husbands we dont need. didnt you read her posthuhhuh she said her husband does not mind, and they are in agreement on a lot of things. it is the in-laws that are causing wahala. and she never said nigerian cultural values were superior. lol how can you be superior to something that is not there. in yankerz there are no cultural values as we find them here. a man who stands for nothing will be deceived by everything

so my dear eniola, be tactful but big ups to raising responsible nigerian-american kids

@chinani, i hope to be teaching 11th graders chemistry this summer, any tips?

welcome, you are not the only person that feels this way, religion has become the opium of the people, if not they would have stormed lagos island and asokoro, maitama and aso rock and killed all the rich people for naija lol

me i have learnt to stop talking, my own is to look and shake my head and believe i have seen
if people spent more time on bettering themselves instead of spending entire weekends at 24hr prayer cities maybe they will be better off

@ seun, don't know how to pm you back, but i modified my post and im not advocating violence or anything of the sort, i merely stating something that is very close to a fact, because if the impoverished nigerian masses didnt have their pastors to assure them that everything good will come tomorrow, there would have been uprisings and killings of ppl considered to be rich and influential and generally ruining nigeria, something of the sort is happening in the niger delta, such happened in the bolshevik revolution in russia. i am not the only one who holds this opinion, it was infact echoed at a forum i attended on nigeria, i am once again not promoting violence
