My main question is wat is there wrong for a Christian guy/girl to marry a Muslim guy/girl...

Cos I bliv we all was created by one God (Allah)..? Y d religious sentiment cos uptil dis moment it still pains me I can't marry dat Lady..

I just wished this can b settled christian n Muslim..

A former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has called on rich and wealthy Nigerians to come to the aid of the hopeless and the less-privileged members of the society.

Obasanjo made this call at the carol service organised by him in the Chapel of Christ The Glorious King, located inside the premises of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State, on Tuesday night.

He said there were many poor people in the society.

He said, “I want to appeal to the rich in the society to always remember the less-privileged in the society. There are many children without hope out there. We should come to their aid. There are boys and girls in our communities with such problem.”

Obasanjo cited an example of a gospel musical group from Ibadan, made up of orphans, who entertained guests at the event.

He said, “They have been part of us here and I want to thank the governor for promising to assist them after I had told him about their plight. For us with hope, we should help them.”

The former President also called on private investors to come to Ogun State and invest, given the infrastructural development and relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

He appealed to the former Head of Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, and other industrialists who were indigenes of the state to use their connections in the private sector to attract more industries to the state.

“The challenge is for you to bring your colleagues in the private sector and give us more companies,” Obasanjo told Shonekan.

The occasion witnessed prayers for the state, the country, and Obasanjo’s family and had in attendance traditional rulers, politicians, and choristers from different churches.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu on Monday picked the All Progressives Congress ticket for the Lagos Central Senatorial District at the party’s primary election.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Tinubu is presently representing the senatorial district at the Senate.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr Kehinde Akinola, who declared the winner, said a total of 2,428 votes were cast during the election, out of which 2,379 were valid.

Akinola said Tinubu had 2,354 votes while her opponent, Mr Odutola Adetokunbo, had 25 votes.

He said there were 49 invalid votes.

Addressing journalists, Tinubu commended the delegates and the people of the constituency for the confidence they had in her.

She described the victory as a “debt” that would be paid back through quality representation at the Senate.

NAN reports that Adetokunbo and his agents were not at the venue when the result was announced.

The election started at about 1pm and ended at about 5.40pm at the Landmark Centre, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island.

Local government councillors from Ife/Ijesa district have warned the All Progressives Congress in Osun State against upturning the victory of Alhaji Sola Lawal, who was reported to have won the party’s Senatorial ticket in Osun East Senatorial District.

The councilors, who took a protest letter to the APC secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, threatened not to recognise any candidate imposed on the party in the zone.

The letter was signed by about 80 councilors from the local government areas across the senatorial district including the Chairman, Councillors Forum in Ife/Ijesa Senatorial District, Rawlings Oyebayo.

The letter read, ” We, members of the body of councillors in Ife/Ijesa have watched with dismay recent development in our party particularly with regards to the nomination of flag bearer for the senatorial seat in our district. It is noted that the process of indirect primaries is welcome, it is a marked improvement on the old order of imposition.

“We are, however, dismayed that the popular candidate for the Senate in our senatorial district, Alhaji Sola Lawal, who won the acclaimed primaries with 17 votes to beat the incumbent’s paltry three votes, is about to be robbed of his victory.

“It is our wish to state unequivocally that anybody presented outside the rightful owner of the mandate, Sola Lawal, will not be acceptable to us. We are resolute in our firm belief that only a credible candidate can win the next election for us.”

Sources close to the party had told our correspondent that Lawal, who is the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ogun State, scored 17 votes against three votes polled by serving Senator Babajide Omoworare in the modified primary conducted at the Government House. But Omoworare’s media aide, Mr. Tunde Dairo, told our correspondent that no election was conducted while describing the modified primary as a kangaroo one.

He alleged that the chairman of the screening committee, who screened the aspirants, Isa Azeez, surprisingly turned the screening into the “so called primaries.”

He said, “After the sham, the governor called party leaders and they organised a proper primaries, which Senator Babajide Omoworare won convincingly.”

However, the Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy of APC in Osun State, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, said in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday that the party had not conducted primaries to pick its flag bearers for the National Assembly elections.

He said the result of the APC’s primaries would be made available either on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The Peoples Democratic Party has filed a fresh suit seeking an order compelling the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, to declare himself no longer fit to represent the Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency.

The suit was filed while the one instituted by Tambuwal seeking to stop his removal and declaration of his seat vacant on the account of his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress was pending.

Both suits are filed before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of a Federal High Court in Abuja, had earlier fixed the one instituted by Tambuwal for hearing on December 3.

Justice Mohammed on Monday granted an ex parte application seeking leave by the PDP to commence its suit against Tambuwal.

The office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives; Tambuwal himself; and the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, are the respondents in the suit.

The court after granting the leave also ordered the plaintiff to put all the respondents on notice.

The court also directed that the court order and the motion on notice to be filed by the plaintiff should be served on the three respondents.

The PDP in its fresh suit, maintained that by virtue of section 68(1)(g) of the Constitution, Tambuwal’s defection from the party, which sponsored his election to the House of Representatives, amounted to losing his seat.

The plaintiff contended that under section 68(2) of the Constitution, it was mandatory for Tambuwal, as Speaker of the House of Representatives, to declare as vacant the Kebbe/Tambuwal seat, whose occupant had defected from the party which sponsored him to the House.

They are also seeking an alternative order compelling the Deputy Speaker to declare the seat vacant in the event that Tambuwal fails to do so.

The prayers being sought by the PDP in its suit filed on November 24 and marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/901/2014, read, “An order of mandamus compelling the 1st respondent (office of the Speaker) to give effect to the provisions of section 68(1)(g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) by declaring the Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency seat vacant.

“An order of injunction restraining the 2nd respondent (Tambuwal) from performing or continuing to perform the function of the 1st respondent in the House of Representatives, or sitting or continuing to sit in the House of Representatives as a member.

“In the alternative, an order of court compelling the 3rd respondent (Deputy Speaker, Ihedioha) to declare the Kebbe/Tambuwal seat vacant by an order of mandamus in terms of relief (a) supra.”

While moving the ex parte application seeking the court’s leave to commence the suit on Monday, PDP’s lawyer, Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN), said section 68(1)(g) of the Constitution was not “self-implementing.”

But he added that the provisions must be given its effect by virtue of provision of section 62(2) of the Constitution by compelling Tambuwal to declare the Kebbe/Tambuwal seat vacant.

The matter was adjourned till December 12.

Some Peoples Democratic Party’s senators on Monday started impeachment moves against President Goodluck Jonathan over what they described as the high level of impunity and corruption allegedly being condoned by his administration.

Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the PDP senators had started compiling impeachable offences against the President.

An All Progressives Congress member of the Senate, who confided the development in our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, explained that his aggrieved PDP colleagues in the upper chamber had started reaching out to the opposition senators.

He said, “I was personally consulted this evening over the issue and I also cross-checked from my colleagues who also told me that they had been contacted.

“The grouse of the lawmakers, according to the person that contacted me, was that Jonathan’s handling of the last week Thursday’s invasion of the National Assembly by the police was carelessly handled by the Jonathan administration.

“From the look of things, the proceedings will start on Tuesday because some signatures had been collected already.”

Another senator from the PDP, who also craved anonymity, also confirmed the development to our correspondent stating that it was certain that the President was not capable of superintending over a free and fair election in 2015.

He said, “Our President is not in charge. We have seen that he had allowed the governors to hijack powers from him. He is just like a puppet and the earlier we act fast, the better for us.”

Meanwhile, opposition members in the Senate have threatened to raise the issue of the last Thursday’s invasion of the National Assembly by the security operatives, when the Senate resumes plenary today (Tuesday).

The spokesperson for the group, who is also the member representing Ekiti Central on the platform of the APC, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, gave the hint in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja.

Ojudu said his colleagues were very annoyed with the ways they were maltreated and molested by the policemen, who were deployed in the National Assembly on the orders of the Inspector – General of Police.

He said majority of his members were of the opinion that the IGP should not be allowed to enter into the chambers, but should be asked to resign for allegedly ridiculing the federal lawmakers who had done nothing wrong other than going to carry out their lawful legislative activities.

He said, “We (APC Senators) are holding a crucial meeting this (Monday) night to take a final decision on the matter because majority of us are really angry. Some are even of the opinion that we should demand the resignation or sacking of the IGP.

“I can assure you that the issue of the National Assembly invasion by the police would be raised when we resume sitting tomorrow (Tuesday ), but we are going to take a single position on the matter at our meeting tonight,” he added.

However, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Media and Public Affairs, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, had in an interview with our correspondent, on Saturday, maintained that the Senate would not be thrown into any chaotic situation over the Thursday’s invasion of the National Assembly complex by security operatives.

He had admitted that the IGP would appear before the Senate but assured the public that the matter would be handled with maturity.

He had said, “The Senate will discuss the invasion of the National Assembly by security operatives when it reconvenes on Tuesday. Already we have invited the Inspector – General of Police to find out who gave the order for the harassment of federal lawmakers last Thursday.

“So, I do not anticipate any form of stormy session during our sitting next Tuesday. I can assure you that the Senate is made up of gentlemen and women who are very senior citizens of the Nigerian society.

“Therefore, you cannot expect the Senate to act, except in a decorous manner.”

Abaribe also said that the Senate would still go ahead with deliberations on the emergency rule in the three north-eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe contrary to insinuations that the matter had ended since the period of emergency had lapsed.

He said, “We had invited the service chiefs and we will find out from them, the update on the insurgency situation in the north-eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe so that we can address the issue of the state of emergency requested by President Goodluck Jonathan.”

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has said President Goodluck Jonathan “is supervising a highly corrupt government.”

He also claimed that “there is no democracy yet in Nigeria.”

The governor, who spoke in Abuja on Saturday, insisted that he had no personal quarrel with President Jonathan, adding that if governance could be separated from the President, he (Jonathan) “remains a good man.”

He, however, regretted that the President “is supervising a highly corrupt government.”

He described the form of government being practised in Nigeria today as diarchy.

While reacting to the invasion of the National Assembly by the police on Thursday, Amaechi described the action as uncivilised.

He said the actions of the police in recent times had shown that they had been pocketed by the Presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

He said, “We don’t have democracy in Nigeria yet. What we have is diarchy. We don’t have a democracy. Diarchy is dictatorship. The Federal Government has appropriated the police as its personal property. The FG has taken over the police. See the way the police took over the National Assembly. By law, the police have no power to invade the National Assembly and they have no power to stop the Speaker from going in or out of the National Assembly complex. But they don’t obey law.”

He insisted that his party, the All Progressives Congress, would not go to court if the PDP decided to rig the 2015 presidential elections.

Instead of going to court, he said the APC would form a parallel government.

He said, “What is the essence of going to court when the Federal Government don’t obey the law. That’s why the APC say we won’t go to the court any longer. If you rig us out, we would rig ourselves in; which means if you think you can rig us out in 2015, we will form our own government. We have met on that and we have agreed on that. We will instal our own government and there would be two governments.

“The only way to avoid a parallel government is to have a free and fair election. You can’t continue to use the police as if it is a private agency or company of the government.”

While saying that the Police in South Africa is currently investigating President Jacob Zuma, he wondered if the police in Nigeria would be allowed to play such a role in the country.

“Are you aware that the President of the South Africa is being probed by the police? Can that happen here? In this country, they slap judges. Seven members of a state (Ekiti) House of Assembly claimed they have sacked a Speaker,” he added.

On Boko Haram, the governor said it would be difficult to convince Nigerians that the Federal Government was not deliberately allowing the crisis to continue in order for it to decimate the votes that would come from the North-East in 2015.

The zone is considered to be a stronghold of the APC.

Amaechi said Nigerians knew the capability of their soldiers, who he said went to Liberia and liberated the country from the hands of the rebels only for them to be having problems dislodging a rag-tag army of insurgents in the country.

He said, “The Federal Government deliberately allowed the Boko Haram to overrun many villages in the North-East. If it is not a political agenda, why would the military not be able to chase away the rag-tag army of Boko Haram?

“They don’t want elections to hold in the zone so that there wouldn’t be election in the zone. If there is no election in the North-East, they believe that the APC would lose.

“If they are not afraid of the APC, let them restore law and order. The zone is in the hands of the APC. Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Yobe states are all APC states. The only state where it could be 50:50 is maybe Taraba State. Apart from this, other states in the zone have always voted for Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, one of our presidential hopefuls.”
