Travel / Re: My Experience Living In Germany And Trying To Learn German On My Own by gistme24(m): 7:38am On Apr 10, 2020
This thread just reminded me of something that happened to me last year.

On the day I was to be introduced to my new colleagues at work, I got lost in a remote Village on my way. I then approached two ladies outside a cafe nearby, explained myself and asked for direction.

You know what these German ladies did ? They gave me a ride and dropped me off in front of my office building. It was out of their way too.

I heard several horror stories about the people at the Ausländerbehörde in particular and the City Hall in general, that made me not look forward to going there. The scariest one being how they will not attend to you if you do not speak German.

It all turned out to be false as they were nothing but helpful and accommodating. Maybe it is unique to Mannheim, but I doubt that.

If you have a valid driver’s license from Nigeria, found out it is valid here for the first 6 months after which you have to start the process of transferring or acquiring a new one. Again, maybe this varies by city.

Hi,

Sorry for my late response. The only platform I know are the usuals : XING and LinkedIn.

Functional roles are client facing, so it may be a bit difficult to come across English speaking roles, but I am sure you’ll find them on those platforms. Also, as you may be aware, In SAP, networking is key, so seek out the key people you can find on social media platforms.

It would also be preferable that questions be asked right here so that we could benefit.

comprende:
Hi @gistme

I am also an SAP consultant although functional. I would appreciate if I could get some information from you especially on searching for English speaking opportunities in Germany.
Please how can I reach you privately?

Hello Guys,

Decided to share this so as to encourage others.

Had my Visa interview on December 17th, 2018. Questions asked were the same as posted earlier by others.

5 weeks later, I received the mail requesting that I provide insurance details and confirmed travel date.
My employer had already informed me in week 3 that approval had been granted by the foreign office .

Visa was delivered earlier this week, week 7.

Special thanks to Sam, who took time to help out in the early days. I went with so many copies that Mr. Paulinus was confused, I was confused too at some point cheesy

My profile, I am currently an SAP ABAP developer with over 5 years experience. Preceding that, i have 5 years experience in other fields like Java and Oracle ERP.

Leaving in some weeks. Wish me luck guys. smiley

Travel / Re: General German Student Visa Enquiries Part 5 by gistme24(m): 10:36am On Dec 03, 2018
Sam8850:

Hi,

It's best to have more than enough copies of all your documents (Original + 2 copies of each set of a document).
On the checklist only a few requested documents were identified as more than one copy but it is advisable to make as many copies as you can.

Here's the checklist:

 Passport
 2 completely filled application forms
2 completely filled declarations in accordance with Section 54 of the Residence Act
2 biometric passport pictures (Your Int'l passport page)
Curriculum vitae of professional career, including all certificates, diplomas, etc.
German university degree or recognised foreign degree comparable to a German degree
Working contract or binding job offer with details of gross annual salary.
Pre-paid courier envelope from a major courier service

Note the above is for Blue Card entry visa, additional documents like Primary school testimonials, WAEC Certificate, Secondary School Certificate, Old Documents from birth etc are required for Work Permit visa.

Hello Sam,

Thanks for the feedback. I am also looking the Blue Card option. Can you please also share your interview experience? Key questions, what to expect and general views?

Kind Regards.

Being a follower of this thread for almost 6months I have gotten some and quite vital info that has helped me.

However, this thread is quite one-sided (from Part 4) considering it started as "General German Visa Enquiries" but now more "...Student visa enquiries". While some of us are looking for either Work permit, entry visa (blue card) or family reunion, it's quite hard to get answers to questions like the process of verifying documents for the family reunion, general support, general information, when you get to Germany what you need to do before you begin work etc.

I almost fumbled during my appointment about a week ago as the guy at the gate was asking for documents not listed on my checklist for entry visa (blue card) but as God had my back, the guy at the gate gave me time to go print the documents because I told him I have them scanned in my drive.

Been searching through Nairaland but couldn't find any thread that is focused on German Work Permit or Blue Card holders or family reunion to follow and get more information, I'm sure there are work permit/blue card holders in here already living in Germany that can help with some information and answers to our few questions. I've seen some questions on this thread related to it but it gets lost amongst the student info.

Please, if anyone got a link to a thread that covers the category of long-term German visa on Nairaland kindly share with us. The German website is very informative and helpful but also getting feedback and the first-hand experience from people who had gone through this before will also prove to be very effective.

Thank you

Good morning Sam,

Could you please share the list of documents you had on you and the extra ones they requested at the gate? It would be of great help.

Thanks.

Did the South West Promise Jona their 2015 votes?
What about the 85% votes he got in '11 & the 40% that voted for him in 2015?
Can you also be nice enough to explain if it's fair for one tribe to claim to have a mind of their own & pitch their tents where they are at a better advantage but vilify another tribe for toeing a path that will favour them as well..
Thanks in anticipation of a clear &, concise reaponse..

Great question, hope he answers.

Well, some slowpoke is trying to scam me though! He must be a learner indeed.

I received a mail some minutes ago, the title EFCC got my attention. I reading the mail, I smiled .

1. The email address the mail was sent to is not linked to any of my accounts.

2 EFCC web domain is wrong, not EFCC.Org which was used to send the mail.

3. EFCC.org is a religious like web site.

4. Attempts to view the document attached to the mail requires me to submit my username and password to my email! Lolz

Like I said, the guy must be a learner.

I watched the video and I was touched . Little gestures like these can go a long way in making a huge difference in the kids / mums' life.

The real truth about Nigerian actist is that they do not make as much as they want us to believe, don't be deceived by the pics they are always putting up, majority are actually broke a??. Most just seek for attention .

Third Mainland Bridge
The Third Mainland Bridge is the longest of three bridges connecting Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria to the mainland, the other two being the Eko and Carter bridges. It is the longest bridge in Africa. The bridge starts from Oworonshoki which is linked to the Apapa-Oshodi express way and Lagos-Ibadan express way, and ends at the Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island. There is also a link midway through the bridge that leads to the Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba. The bridge was built by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC and opened by President Ibrahim Babangida in 1990; it measures about 11.8km in length.

Third Mainland Bridge is not the longest bridge in Africa OP

Kudos to Ambode.

To the tribe bashers from East / West, una no dey tire?

I am an Igbo dude, but I don't understand the reason behind the cry for Biafra. Was it because PDP lost the election? Exactly how have we been marginalised ?

Imagine what can be achieved if the crowds marching for Biafra can also match to force their respective state Govt to fulfil campaign promises.

Anyway, I have come to the conclusion that only cowards and kids bash tribes.
One love.

Career / Re: Should I Be Bothered About Leaving? by gistme24(m): 7:55pm On Nov 09, 2015
Perks are never freely given, they are earned. You have earned this 'slap', and they probably feel you will reward them by doubling your efforts. To put it properly, you are an asset!

About you leaving, banish that thought, else you are implying you will always think of walking out whenever you encounter hostility, and I believe you may encounter a few more in the corporate world.

It's not your fault that you are awesome! Just stay humble, just as you sound.

Webmasters / Re: 8 Things I Wish I’d Known When I Started As A Web Developer by gistme24(m): 4:48pm On Jun 03, 2015
Valid points.

I started programming way back in 2006, when there were no frameworks to play with and I fell in love with java, C#, and scripting languages like PHP and Perl.

Although my line of work is no longer in core programming, I have never had any issue with reading up on any framework because of my solid background in programming.

Also, to add to your points, developers should learn how to work in a team early, large projects often means many developers .

The Contacts I made on this thread helped me launch my SAP Career. Some came here to sell, while majority of the Gurus came to impart Knowledge and inspire people. I was one of those imparted .

I Did my Certification in ABAP back in 2012 through self study. And it took me 2 years to a day to have my breakthrough , a breakthrough I am enjoying to the fullest .

Advice to those seeking to have a career in SAP:

1. Networking, its very important .

2. You don't have to clear your bank account to get certified .

3. If you are certified, then it only gets your through the door most times. It rarely counts in the field . So know your module.

4. Don't always expect free materials from gurus, but take the hints and advice they may give seriously. I found out that some actually test
your level of seriousness when they say, for example, go to this URL and search for the material .

5. Above all, don't choose a module for the expected reward, choose it for the love and enthusiasm you have for it. It will make the tough days
and situations enjoyable .

A big thank you to the gurus on these threads. Too numerous to mention. One actually took me under his wings and gave me so many contacts.

Sorry If I sounded like an "OVER SABI", but hey, I am a Consultant wink grin

I hope we keep this thread alive .

You cant say he supports APC, he bashed Buhari. We need to ignore Political leanings and tackle issues, just as the Cardinal just did.
I am a proud Catholic, and the Catholic church in Nigeria will forever be grateful to you Cardinal Okogie!
