To God be the glory.

I’ve got a job in the civil service. I can’t disclose the details because of the nature of the role and the job.

“Why are you sharing if you can’t tell us where it is”

I waded in and ask they stop the comparison. When it wasn't looking like they'd drop the discussion, booked an uber and left. The best i could do at that moment. But someone who wasn't there, called me daft for bring such here when this could be something that's mostly common among people (comparison) and we could all learn from not pressuring ourselves with such. Is it not this thread someone ran to for help about him not earning much in his job and we all encouraged him ? There might be people who silently go through this. Nuff said sha. But e pain me say them call me daft, i have the perfect reply for that, but i won't derail the purpose of this thread by going down that low.

Has anyone recently done the PCC certificate?

Any links or hints on how to get it, would be appreciated. The website returns an error code when I try to access the pcc function

You don't have to post all this to the world sir. I have been in the UK since a long time and the world doesn't know. Be prepared for the roughness. Warehouse jobs and stupid care jobs. Be prepared for 3 months of regret sir. You will wish u hadn't come.
Ekpele Sir. It hasn’t been rosy but I’m here to tell you that

I got working, not in care, not in warehouse (with all due respect to them) in 2 weeks of arrival.

I sold my 12 pro max to ad to flight ticket, me and my wife now use 14 pros, paid in cash.

I have also being able to pay off debt of over 4m and also have a few savings.

I also have bought equipment and setup a portable home music studio ( this happened in my first 2 months ) . And I have released about 4 songs (check d minimalist) on all social media platforms.

I also wear Zara and what would have been termed luxury in Nigeria. These are a few of them. I won’t talk about the standard of living and type of living because you fit just choke.

It’s not a smooth ride, but I have no regrets and have a better standard of life, I eat better and breath better than you whole community, including your state governor.

In less than 8 months, I have achieved so much more that I can’t start typing.
Even my family and friends don receive alerts too.

My first 3 months was sweet.

It’s not a soft ride, but my brother, it’s incomparable and I can’t even list it all, in just 7 months.

Na you know the abroad wey you go

Cheers 🥂 you

My advice to you is to japa to Canada if possible. Several years ago in Nigeria precisely 2015, I was earning about 750k per month and I still left. People told me it was a bad decision then but now I thank God I made the decision as most friends that criticized me then have come to their senses and are surprised I had the foresight then. The exchange rate then, was I CAD to 150 ngn. Today it is 1 CAD to 920 NGN. First, building you assets in Naira is risky as one insane CBN governor can easily print so much local currency and devalue the currency making your hard working years and saving completely worthless. I invested heavily in Nigerian stocks, houses, bonds and they are worthless today if I convert it. My house in Nigeria can barely fetch me 15000 dollars if I put it up for sale. If I had taken the same action in a proper working economy I would have become a millionaire in dollars. People ruined Nigerian banks and mismanaged shareholders fund and they are not in jail. People will eat your pension funds and nothing will.happen. Nigeria is a no go for any smart young man with vision. I have a foreign passport, access to a world class healthcare. I know how much assets I have built abroad since I left Nigeria. I look at my years in Nigeria as the locust years of my life. There is no accountability in Nigeria. 200k is less than 200 dollars
Well said. 200k is around 135 pounds.

Japa to the UK to do what exactly? What skills do you have to offer UK employers as a federal government worker with the Nigerian government at the age of 34?

You people are making the UK seem it is Dubai or South Africa where every bloke walks in and starts earning money.
Well, I walked into the uk a few months ago and started “making money” in your language, in less than 30 days. Money enough to pay my bills. Not the type of bills paid in Nigeria with zero value.

The uk is not a bed of roses, but compared to Nigeria, it is beds full of roses.

200k*4 salary should not even be enough to make one think twice of leaving town hall.

Dem don cast us finish for this place, that since our home country is no better we should not complain much. I once told my British pastor and his wife in church how much we pay for ihs, their face just turn red and almost passed out. They were shocked at the amount we immigrants pay into their system. I don’t blame our people much we are all coming from a system with almost no protected rights
Yes. When also told one local, the amount paid for IHS for my family, man was stunned. He said they never say this on the media. That it’s the fist time he’s hearing it and was shocked at how much we paid to the government.

Let information be passed through Nairaland and other such text based forums, at least all those Olosho and yahoo boys who Japa anyhow won't be able to bring up senseless video contents littered with poor grammar! Typing and constructing simple English sentences would chase them off Nairaland I'm sure! Information would be kept sane and controlled that way

A topic was opened for debate for everyone owing to new rules and you just had to let this snide remark jump out. I have noticed this is also common among Nigerians in the UK Twitter (NIUK) community.

If people stop sharing their experiences, it's the same Nigerians like you who will say the Indians don't do this or that. The purpose of sharing on this platform is so people can have more information and know that some things are POSSIBLE and can be done, which is why I always preach upskilling and trying to do better (if circumstances allow it as everyone has different responsibilities).

Is it bad if Nigerians occupy top positions like the Indians?? Is it bad if we try to encourage each other to go for top positions? If you go interview and see 2 Nigerians on the panel at a top multinational, is it bad?? The purpose of sharing things is not to engage in a dick measuring contest, it's a way for people to know that things are not out of our reach if we aim higher and put in the work

Believe what you believe or not, people earn really, really well in this same UK we shout they're stingy with salaries. I lost a £44K offer (not a high salary but not bad per UK standards) last month to someone who was able to start immediately. It was a Security Analyst role at RCA and they were ready to offer sponsorship without thinking twice. Funny enough, the IT Manager was a Nigerian lady.
I just got back from a 2nd stage interview 1 hr ago and its a similar position, offering something similar

Spent about 1 hour on the phone with a friend of mine who got a job at one of the largest insurance companies in the world last week, total package, about £100,000 (Attached). Same guy still has an interview with Manchester United this week.

Another one got an offer with Lloyds Register; both of them aren't even 4 months old in the UK. These are not people I have heard of; they are close friends, so IT CAN BE DONE.

Again, It can be done smiley

Stop pushing the narratives of the outliers please. 80k/100k is an outlier and takes lots and years of dedication to a career path. Stop using the outliers as a norm

Resurgent2016:
You can't use your story or even field to make a theory.

Certain fields and industries are more open/exposed to offer sponsorship than others. For instance, many accounting firms (big4 or big10 as called here on the sponsorship list are open to offering sponsorship on contact. Discussion on why that is is a different subject. In the industry, an accountant is less likely going to easily find companies that offer on contact or they may be offering below average pay e.g a role that will fetch £50-69k, one will offer it for £25-30k with sponsorship and even those may not be so common. I also understand some data and IT focused firms/roles also rich sponsorship opportunities.

Mind you, an accountant without big4 or closely matching experience in Nigeria is unlikely to land a big4 job in the Uk and so will likely focus on industry roles.

Bottom line is not all industries and careers offer the same level of sponsorship opportunity. For instance a medical practioner/dentist/pharmacist and similar guys have a very high chance of securing sponsorship on contact. Someone with experience in hr or marketing will probably have much lower odds of getting sponsorship.

For some others in the industry, even when they are on the sponsorship list, it is not a norm to offer sponsorship on contact or make any firm commitment towards sponsorship.

So be thankful your prior experience and positioning has landed you in a rich fishing spot. Trust me many others work as hard and diligent but do not find same opportunity because of they do not have the prior experience in the visa-rich field to leverage on.

I currently worked in industry but also have experience working with a big4 prior, so I speak from some level of experience.

Except for some specialised engineering roles, my current employer will not offer sponsorship, neither will others in the industry. Best bet will be to join and hope you convince them to do so. For people with less than 24months on their visa, that is a challenge.
Btw, 99% of those in big4 in Nigeria, get their work and sponsorship from Nigeria. Dey don’t come here to study. They get employed from Nigeria.

Las las, na hustle for bread Everyman Dey. Factory o, Deliveroo o, care o, bank o, office o, suit and tie o, doctor o, analyst o.

All man is working towards one goal. Meet needs, enjoy life, and provide for offsprings Whether na topay rent (dead money 😁) or sleep under bridge o, or pay mortgage.

It’s all towards one direction, BILLS……..

E no pass like that.
This mindset of Nigerians and Africans, in classifying labour, is based on where they come from and how life is there.

People in advanced countries like in the uk, careless, most times. They just follow what suits them and give them peace and fulfillment.

Nigeria? No, you must wear tie, enter office, and use biro and be analyst or sedan for computer 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Same reason why this country grows and is where it is today.

Anyone who comes here, sees how the system works, then plan accordingly.

Rent money is no dead money. No one comes here and sees there’s possibility of mortgage, then decides to pay rent for 10/20 years.

“Rent money is dead money”

Make them kukuma go sleep for under bridge na?

I’ll always say this, everyone comes in with their own peculiar situation(financially).

In due time, everybody gets and enjoys what every other person gets in this country.

No pressure yourself ✌️, pay your rent, enjoy your house, enjoy your life.
