The election petition tribunal in Kano on Friday sacked Shamsuddeen Dambazau, the son of former minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazau, as member representing Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency.

The tribunal ordered Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to issue certificate of return to Surajo Kanawa, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Mr Dambazau, who did not contest the election but came second in the APC primaries, got the mandate when a Federal High Court in Kano disqualified a former presidential aide, Kawu Sumaila, in a pre-election suit.

The genesis of the crisis

Mr Dambazau had sued INEC, APC and Mr Sumaila challenging the nomination of the latter as the candidate of APC.

He told the court through his counsel, Nuraini Jimoh, that Mr Sumaila contested for the Kano South senatorial seat and lost to Kabiru Gaya.

Mr Sumaila had indeed contested the Kano South senatorial ticket of the APC. He lost to a serving senator, Kabiru Gaya.

Later, the state chapter of APC compensated him with House of Representatives ticket of the Sumaila/Takai federal constituency which is also within the Kano South senatorial district.

The US government says effective October 29, children of citizens born outside the country will no longer automatically become citizens of the country.

The directive is contained in a new policy issued on Wednesday by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

US citizenship can be acquired by being born in the country or children born abroad can acquire citizenship through their US citizen parents either at birth or before the age of 18.

But with the new policy, which the US says it does not exempt “children of U.S military and U.S. government employees stationed outside of the United States”, the children will now have to apply to become citizens.

USCIS said children affected by the policy change have the option of completing the naturalisation process abroad before the age of 18.

It explained that the policy change does not deny these children citizenship but narrows and affects the process through which they can become citizens.

USCIS says the policy could affect children of lawful permanent residents who naturalized after a child’s birth.

“Effective October 29, 2019, children residing abroad with their U.S. citizen parents who are U.S. government employees or members of the U.S. armed forces stationed abroad are not considered to be residing in the United States for acquisition of citizenship,” the policy read.

“Similarly, leave taken in the United States while stationed abroad is not considered residing in the United States even if the person is staying in property he or she owns.

“Therefore, U.S. citizen parents who are residing outside the United States with children who are not U.S. citizens should apply for U.S. citizenship on behalf of their children under INA 322 8, and must complete the process before the child’s 18th birthday.

“The child of a member of the U.S. armed forces accompanying his or her parent abroad on official orders may be eligible to complete all aspects of the naturalization proceedings abroad. This includes interviews, filings, oaths, ceremonies, or other proceedings relating to naturalization.

“Applications filed on or after October 29, 2019 are subject to this policy. The policy in place before October 29, 2019 applies to applications filed before that date. Children who have already been recognized through the issuance of a Certificate of Citizenship as having acquired U.S. citizenship under INA 320 are not affected by this policy change.”

godlyguy:
Joshua Beckford, globally acclaimed as one of the most brilliant boys in the world and one of Britain’s best brain, has now been listed in the top 30 most remarkable people in the world with Autism who have impacted on society. Beckford is the youngest ever to attend Oxford University at age 6 and to perform complex surgeries on a Surgery Simulator.

Joshua Beckford has never been the typical child. At two years old, he quickly mastered reading fluently using phonics and was speaking Japanese by the age of three. At the age of six he became the youngest person in the world to study Philosophy and History at the prestigious University of Oxford in England, gaining a distinction in both subjects.

In 2011, his father wanted to challenge his son, so he wrote to the university to see if he could participate in a philosophy course for bright children between the age of eight and thirteen. They agreed, and Joshua was the youngest student ever accepted. He even passed with distinction.

So, what does a super scholar study? Joshua excels at science, math, history, foreign languages and history. He dreams of being a neurosurgeon and is well on his way by practicing gall bladder removals and appendectomy procedures.

“Since the age of four, I was on my dad’s laptop and it had a body simulator where I would pull out organs. I want to save the earth. I want to change the world and change people’s ideas to doing the right things about earth.”

Beckford was too advanced for a standard curriculum, so he was forced to be home-schooled. Throughout his studies, he has taken an interest in Egypt and is working on a children’s book about the historic nation.

When he isn’t studying and achieving more than many adults, Joshua also serves as the face of the National Autistic Society’s Black and Minority (BME) campaign. Diagnosed with high functioning autism, Joshua helps to spread the campaign’s mission of highlighting obstacles Blacks face when trying to obtain access to necessary autism support and services.

Jshua has been appointed Boys Mentoring Advocacy Network (BMAN) Low Income Families Education (L.I.F.E) Support Ambassador for Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya and the United Kingdom [UK]. BMAN Low Income Families Education (LIFE) Support was established to create educational opportunities for children from low income families so that they have hope of positively contributing to a thriving society.

“I am pleased to be given the opportunity to work in partnership with BMAN LIFE to help inspire and provide educational opportunities for children in Africa to prepare for a bright future for the continent in the 21st Century,” says Joshua.

Joshua will hold a live mentoring session with teenagers and his father, Knox Daniel, will facilitate a mentoring session with parents at the Father And Son Together [FAST] initiative event in Nigeria in August 2019.

In 2017 Joshua won the Positive Role model award for his age at the National Diversity Awards, which celebrates the excellent achievements of grass- root communities that tackle the issues in today’s society, giving them recognition for their dedication and hard work across the UK.

godlyguy:
Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, has said the parliament would soon come up with a law that would peg secondary school leaving age at 18.

A statement signed by the lawmaker, copy of which was obtained by our Correspondent on Thursday, said Owoeye disclosed this in his goodwill message to the Osun Youth Agenda High - Level Stakeholder’s Policy Dialogue , held in Osogbo.

It was organised by the Kimpact Development Initiative , with the support of the United Agency for International Development, National Democratic Institute, and the United Kingdom’ s Department of International Development .

Owoeye accused many parents of “ rushing” their wards through secondary school education , adding that entering higher institution below 18 years of age could make even children from the best home to be vulnerable to negative peer influences.

He further stressed that the current trend of underage high school leavers without any vocational skill had , in part, contributed to high rate of unemployment in the country.

When passed, Owoeye said, the law would checkmate the growing trend of underage secondary school leavers in Osun State.

He explained that in some other countries where such practice is common , there are legal measures in place to ensure that early high school leavers are productively engaged over a period of time before they are permitted to further their studies.

He added that in such countries, young school leavers are also denied the right to drive and some other social rights basically because they have not attained age of 18.

The lawmaker said , “ When we eventually make the law , Osun will not only be the first state to enact such law in the country, we will also collaborate with other Houses of Assembly to ensure that the law is also passed in their respective states.

“We will work with the National Assembly to ensure that the law is nationally adopted. ”

PoliticsEl-zakzaky Wants To Turn Nigeria Into Islamic State Says Nigerian Government by godlyguy(op): 11:28pm On Aug 28, 2019
The Nigerian Government has accused leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, of planning to turn Nigeria into an Islamic country. The government made the claim in a counter-affidavit deposed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Enyinnaya Adiogu, in Abuja. The court document also stated that the IMN members do not recognise the authority of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The affidavit reads, “That from history and facts available, the Islamic Movement IN Nigeria founded by El-Zakzaky has its sole aim of creating an Islamic state. “That Sheik El-Zakzaky was heavily influenced by the Iranian revolution, which saw Ayatollah Khomeini take power in 1979 after the overthrow of the Shah in a popular uprising. “Khomeini remains the Islamic Movement in Nigeria’s main inspiration. “That members of IMN first pledge allegiance to Khomeini at their gatherings, and then to their local leader, Sheikh Zakzaky.

“The IMN views itself as a government, and Sheikh Zakzaky as the only legitimate source of authority in Nigeria and it does not recognise the authority of the Nigerian Government, and views its leaders both Muslims and Christians as corrupt and ungodly. “That till date, Sheikh El-Zakzaky enjoys the support of Iran in all the activities of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, including the agenda to make Nigeria an Islamic state.” IMN is challenging its proscription by a court in July – a development that led to massive protests and clash between members and security agencies.

godlyguy:
Brazil's administration has rejected a $20 million emergency fund from the G7 to fight fires in the Amazon , calling it "colonialist and imperialist." The move comes amid a fracas between Emmanuel Macron, President of G7 host France, and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro over how to address the fires, which climaxed on Monday with Bolsonaro mocking Macron's wife.

Earlier that day Onyx Lorenzoni, Bolsonaro's chief of staff, also said Brazil is rejecting the G7's money, and accused France of reviving colonialist tendencies. "Brazil is a democratic, free nation that never had colonialist and imperialist practices, as perhaps is the objective of the Frenchman Macron," Lorenzoni told Brazilian news site G1.

Bolsonaro echoed the sentiment in a tweet on Monday , saying the G7's intervention to "save" the Amazon makes Brazil seem "as if we were a colony or no man's land."

Scientists have recorded more than 76,000 fires in Brazil so far this year. Since August 15, more than 9,500 new forest fires have started an 83% increase year-on-year. The fires were predominantly caused by Brazilian farmers during deforestation, a move that Bolsonaro has supported in the past.

Fernando Azevedo e Silva, Brazil's defense minister, claimed on Monday that the country had the fires "under control," without giving further details. "It has been exaggerated a little that the situation was out of control it wasn't," he said, according to France 24 . "The situation isn't simple but it is under control." As of Tuesday, some of the fires have been extinguished, but many remain. The Brazilian military have been dispatched to deal with the fires.

The G7's $20 million donation was intended to finance fire-fighting aircraft, France 24 reported, citing a source close to the French presidency.

Macron has lambasted Bolsonaro for his indifference over the fires. "The Amazon forest is a subject for the whole planet. We can help you reforest. We can find the means for your economic development that respects the natural balance," he said on Monday. "But we cannot allow you to destroy everything. "The leaders' feud started last Thursday after Macron tweeted a photo of the Amazon fires on Thursday with the caption: "Our house is burning. Literally."

On Sunday, Brazilian education minister Abraham Weintraub, called Macron an "opportunistic cretin seeking the support of the French farm lobby. "The fires are so severe that the

The United States of America and Japan have signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) to expand US-Japan energy cooperation in sub-Saharan Africa and renew each country’s commitment to reducing energy poverty and increasing access to sustainable energy in Africa.

A statement by the US Department of State made available to SaharaReporters said the signing took place at the Seventh International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) and was signed by Power Africa Coordinator Andrew Herscowitz and Ambassador Masahiko Kiya, Deputy Director-General of African Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

"The MOC builds on over three years of successful cooperation between GOJ and USG through a previous MOC signed in August 2016 to support Power Africa, a U.S. Government-led effort to double access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa, which the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) coordinates.

"The MOC will leverage collective energy investments in clean energy solutions, geothermal, energy efficiency, and support cross-border energy trade and regional power pools. The renewed partnership will advance efforts under the Power Africa 2.0 strategy, that USAID Administrator Mark Green announced in 2018, to make gains in the areas of distribution and transmission. GOJ, USAID and the broader Power Africa network will coordinate efforts to increase electrical transmission infrastructure in sub-Saharan Africa," it said.

Power Africa, the US government-led partnership coordinated by USAID to double electricity access in sub-Saharan Africa, has two distinct goals to increase new generation capacity by 30,000 megawatts and to help create 60 million new electricity connections by 2030.

News24 has confirmed that Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson parked his metallic blue BMW X5 at the company's Krugersdorp office before he signed out a company Toyota Corolla for the weekend, in which he died on this morning.

The controversial businessman also called a prayer meeting of directors at the company's office on Sunday morning.

Former colleagues of Watson are puzzled why he would have left his own luxury vehicle at the office in exchange for a vehicle similar to those used by the company's drivers for trips to OR Tambo Airport

Former Bosasa fleet manager Frans Vorster confirmed to News24 that the Corolla in which Watson was killed had a manual gearbox, whereas Watson could only drive automatic cars.

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote says he has no time for luxury stuff because they tend to be a distraction.

According to him, he is fixated at his goals of growing his business empire and has little time on his hand and therefore does not need any distractions that such luxury stuff comes with.

Mr. Dangote who was speaking at the 2019 edition of the Mo Ibrahim Forum averred that he has no personal house outside his native Nigeria and that some of his workers own houses in London and other locations abroad.

He said: “I don’t have any holiday home anywhere. I don’t have a house anywhere but I know people who are working for me…they have houses in London.”

Mr. Dangote admonished the youth and entrepreneurs who are into business, not to spend based on projected incomes, since the constant flow of profit is not guaranteed.

“Once you start doing business [and] it starts doing well, but rather than for you to invest more in the business, you start spending thinking that profit will continue to come’’ he averred.
