A former House of Representative member, Hon Independence Ogunewe is dead. 

Nigerians received the news earlier today with shock. Hon. Ogunewe was a politician with exceptional policies rarely seen among “the political gladiators currently dominating our political climate."

“He was upright, cerebral, courageous and loyal to his electorates while he was serving in various public offices."

“His wealth of experience and contributions to the political landscape in Imo State and Nigeria in general will be greatly missed."

As a two-time member of the Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Hon. Ogunewe made several indelible marks at the the green chamber. It’s not surprising, therefore, that the Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara immediately issued a heartfelt eulogy upon hearing of the death of Hon Ogunewe. In a press statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Turaki Hassan, Dogara expressed shock over the sudden passing of the former lawmaker. “Ogunewe was a man of courage who stood for the truth always”, said Dogara.

In truth, During the 5th & 6th Assembly, we can’t forget the huge impacts left behind by the former astute legislator. We remember his heroic roles in bringing about many people-oriented policies in the country under his leadership of various committees in both the 5th and 6th legislatures. We also cannot forget his many acts of philanthropy, which the people of his Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency greatly benefitted from. Some of Ogunewe’s legislative legacies include his co-sponsorship of the motion that stopped a hasty handover of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon until key national issues were sorted out. This motion, no doubts, contributed to the welfare of the indigenous people of bakassi, most of whom were resettled by the government before the eventual handover of their communities to the neighbouring country. 

Again, Ogunewe’s many poverty alleviation schemes, as well as women and youth empowerment schemes, are some of his acts of kindness that will remain indelible now that he’s gone.

Nigerians in general and Imolites in particular commiserate with the people of Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency over this painful loss of their benefactor. No doubts, his roles as a key voice of Democracy in Nigeria will be greatly missed. Information reaching the PoliticsNGR newsdesk this afternoon reveals that Senator Mustapha Bukar(APC Katsina-North) has died in Abuja.

His death was confirmed by his younger brother, Kanta Bukar.  The late Bukar was aged 63.

Bukar was born in Daura on December 31, 1954. He is an indigene of Katsina State. He is married and blessed with children.
He attended Daura 1 Primary School from 1961 to 1968; proceeded to Government College Katsina from 1969 to 1973. For his University Education, he attended the prestigious  Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1974 to 1978  where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He thereafter did his compulsory one year National Youth Service (NYSC) in Imo State.

He later became a Chartered Engineer. He is a member of the Institute of Civil Engineers, Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) American Water Work Association and is also the President, Nigerian Water Supply Association; Chairman African Water Resources and Member, Nigeria Institute of Management.
 
In 1989, Engineer Mustapha was appointed General Manager/Chief Executive of the Katsina State Water Board and was made the commissioner of Agriculture, Water Resources after the rationalization of ministries.
He was appointed director of social duties in the Federal ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Development in 1992, a position that placed him in charge of many large scale water supply projects including the world Bank financed national water rehabilitation project which is aimed at physical rehabilitation of urban water schemes in the 36 states including Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as well as the institutional development of the 37 states with state water Agencies.
 
On April 7, 1999, Engineer Mustapha Bukar became Director, water supply and quality control, a position that absorbs his function as a Director, special duties and other projects under his supervision and co-ordination, such as water quality laboratories projects, UNICEF/FGN joint rural water supply and sanitation programme, UNICEF Assisted National Water Supply and Sanitation monitoring and Evaluation programme. Others are national water supply policy rural water supply (Special Intervention Projects).

Superstar Nigerian born British actor, John Boyega, has finally reacted to Toke Makinwa's rant about getting assaulted by one of his bodyguards.

Recall that Toke Makinwa had claimed to have been assaulted at a restaurant, Crossroads, in Lagos by one of John Boyega's bodyguards.

The media personality who appeared angry over the incident, took to her Instagram page on Thursday, January 4, 2017, where she wrote a really detailed account of what happened at the said restaurant which is situated in the premises of Eko Hotel and Suites.

According to her, even though she had an early flight to catch, she wanted to make clear her experience in the hands of the bodyguard to Hollywood actor, John Boyega. She feels that if she was a guy, she wouldn't have been treated in such manner.

Toke went on to write about how she was not only embarrassed, but also prevented from being served in the restaurant until John Boyega came in and the bodyguard gave the management the go-ahead.

However when interviewed on CoolFM this morning, the incident was brought to John Boyega's notice and after some bouts of laughter, he asked who Toke Makinwa is. Here's the video below;

So, they felt they could toss her some baits, using her strong desire for good grades.

"We would help her get the good grades she wants. We would tell other lecturers to accord her good grades, too. However, she should be ready to be in our good books. She should be ready to do our bids, just like some of her colleagues do".

"That is a bait too big to miss the hit," they assured themselves. "It is what almost every female student who struggles with academics like her wants," they said, with evil grin.

She resisted their advances and ingenuine help altogether. Even though she badly wanted good grades, and that her hardest effort could not get her more than average scores, she was strongly determined not to mess herself up on any lecturer's bed.

They discovered she would not budge an inch, no matter how hard, or what trick, they tried. Then, they resorted to threat. They shouted at her at every opportunity. They orally harassed her. They made her look stupid and dumb in the eyes of other students. They knew she was emotional and could barely form words whenever her emotion ran high. She always stuttered, although mildly, whenever she was worked up or put under stress. Even when she had ostensibly done nothing wrong, they would call her in public and begin to lambaste her.

They were the predators that ruled the jungle. And she was only a little vulnerable mouse, struggling for life in the midst of cruel devourers.

"You cannot be this beautiful and go like that without any of us having a taste of you," they always said, albeit covertly.

All this they did to a point that she started crying out. She had been battling this herself but she seemed not to have the strength to do it alone again. She needed whom she could pour her heart to so the weight would be light on her.

It is not even that she had not been crying before this day. She had but had always fought the tears from escaping her eyes lest people begin to inquire into the tale she was not ready to tell. I am also sure that she had, at one time or two, left herself to shed all the tears her body could produce when she was alone in her room.

I can never forget those words she muttered to us while tears cascaded down her beautiful face one fateful afternoon.

Heavily sobbing, she said, "This my womanhood en! It belongs to my husband and only him will see and touch it! No lecturer will! God will not make their evil wish come to pass on me!"

"Most of my colleagues are doing it but I never will. I will never do it. I never, ever will," she resolved.

Months and years have passed after we graduated. Today, she has a handsome, financially-okay, caring husband who respects and cares very much for her. God has also blessed her with beautiful child and her family has always known good days. Things are okay and peaceful with her today.

You wonder why God is making things sweet for her today? It is because she did not mess up her yesterday! Things are working pretty good for her today because she was not reckless about her yesterday.

She did not disobey her conscience while on campus. She did not mess herself up on the bed of a lecturer. She was determined but wasn't desperate to do any silly thing for grades. She respected her hubby yet unknown and made sure she kept herself clean and sealed for him.

So what can be said about you? Are you allowing your desires to make you desperate? If that is the case with you, please change today. Do not lose your dignity on the altar of desperation.

Always respect and protect your tomorrow!

On Sunday, 1 April 2018. A meeting was organized by the landlord of the house where I live. He mandated us (each tenants) to contribute 2,500 Naira for the repairs of the damaged machine.

I'm hell-bent on not contributing a dime because it's the responsibility of the landlord to fix anything that concerns the house. I stand to be corrected and will change my mind if I am wrong hence, the reason for seeking opinions here.

NOTE: this is not the first time we would be contributing money to fix one thing or the other, pumping machine today, tomorrow it would be transformer issue..
