Also, can this kind of structure be built in a place that is sandy, after a raft foundation is put in place? Where would the laterite or clay used for making the bricks be sourced?

The set bricks gives a super strong structure without mortar. Though the interior of this particular project will be plastered and screeded, mortar plays no part in putting them in place. Unlike sandcrete blocks, the red bricks interlock and fit together like a puzzle.

Yes you can build in a sandy environment, once the appropriate foundation is laid. When there is a project there are two options available to our clients, we can take our mobile equipment to the site once we are sure of local availability of laterite or we can transport cured bricks to site and start setting. One is faster and more expensive, but the choice is totally the client's to make.

However, with the high demand for cement in our building projects as it appears the most used if not the only technology employed in building projects, the prices will continue to soar. This present 'relief' is therefore better viewed as a temporary one.

The Federal Government should as a matter of urgency encourage the use of alternative building technologies that will reduce local demand for cement, especially red bricks, encourage the exportation of the products by giving incentives to local cement manufacturers. This has immense benefits of increasing revenue from non-oil sector, stimulating the economy by encouraging local businessmen who will make this technology available to interested builders or developers. Red bricks technology is a local technology with immense benefits. It has only been modernised.

Did you mix soil from different locations, or this soil color is obtained from a particular region, or the cement mix made it appear this way?

Secondly, how are plumbing pipes installed in these brick buildings? They will be very difficult to break, since they are not hollow. So, how do you solve this challenge? Please upload pics of plumbing in this building to explain better.

You mentioned me from one of my posts, which led me to your thread.
The few bricks I've seen so far, are red colored, the commonest color of laterite soil in Nigeria.

It is not a mixture of different soil types that gave this pastel colour but the particular 'batch' of laterite supplied.

About plumbing works, the bricks can be grinded, plumbing pipes fitted and sealed, this is done.especially for water pipes but it requires serious expertise. Most times surface plumbing works is what is done.

I will definitely upload pictures of plumbing works of this particular project in due time.

1kg in China is the same as 1kg in Aba, Akure and Adamawa. Someone once asked, which one is heavier 10kg of stone and 10kg of feather. The answer is NONE, cos kg is a STANDARD.
3 bedroom flat is not a STANDARD.

Like I said we may need to see your plan, know the total area, know if it's all ensuite, how many living room, cost of building materials in the area (cos the brickwork will be done on German Flooring, concrete pillars, cost of planks e.t.c)

Even if I give an estimate in the number of bricks for a 3 bedroom, it may not be as accurate and even if it is, it can never represent the total costs.

If I see your plan or know the total area and other necessary information, I will then give you an appropriate estimate.
