It's even BVAS that curtailed him a bit now otherwise, you would have seen like 1.8m for his candidate. PDP has always always won Rivers elections this way. What he did here is also similar to the Yoruba christians vs Yoruba Muslim that Ibos try to use to divide Yorubas on Nairaland.

Ibos and Gbadebo do not know that we are Yoruba first before being Christian or Muslim. Hence, you find many Yoruba household with inter-religious beliefs. Father fit be Muslim, wife Christian, some kids Muslim and some kids Christians. An average ibo can't fathom how this works since people of same faith fight in their region let alone family members of different faith.

Dear Igbo People,

I sincerely apologize for allowing a toxic political banner advert which said, "Lagos can never be run from Anambra; go and vote" to run on Nairaland for several hours on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

The mischievously worded banner advert appears to have been part of an ethnically divisive political campaign aimed at securing Lagos State for the ruling party by instilling fear in Yoruba people, making them believe that Igbo people intended to "take over" Lagos State.

Such ethnically divisive political campaigns have no place in a forward-thinking democracy, and for this reason, the ad should have been taken down instantly. No harm was intended, but my lack of forethought about the ethics of that type of advert led to a disappointing outcome.

We should have had a clear policy against accepting negative and ethnically divisive ads on Nairaland, we should have communicated it to all advertisers, and we should have taken down any advert that violated that policy instantly. This will all be in place before the next election.

We made almost N16,000 from the ad. We will double it and donate it to victims of political violence in Lagos.

Please, do NOT give up on Nigeria. The times are challenging, but TOGETHER, we will overcome.

By Law, more seats are allocated to states like Lagos in the house of Reps due to their large population...this population is made up of those of us who have been violently prevented from voting...we were told we are not Lagosians, we were told to go back to where we come from.

....And we have accepted.

Come May 2023, there will be another national Census and we won't allow ourselves to be counted as Lagosians.

We must "respect our hosts" and return to our states of origin to be counted. Or refuse to be counted as Lagosians.

If you look at the voting data from the south west, the votes were divided amongst the 3 front runners, same for the North East, North Central, North West. It is pertinent to also note that all the numbers Tinubu was able to garner in the north, even in states where he was not the winner is what guaranteed his victory.

In the south west Atiku won in Osun, Labour won in Lagos and in the south west states of Ondo, Ekiti and Ogun where both PDP and Labour party did not win they had significant number of votes, same can not be said of the south east.


That's how it played out and any sane person who wants to be honest and analyse with data rather than emotions and sentiments can not conclude that the Yorubas were tribalistic with how they voted.

When it comes to tribalism in this election, I think anyone who looks closely at the data would know where to point accusing fingers and would also know that the failure of this block in this election and in many others in the past is their failure to understand that alliance and networks with the voting blocks with huge numbers is what guarantees electoral victory in Nigeria's presidential election.

Rather than tow this line they are always in the habit of denigrating the Yorubas with despicable words, just because the Yorubas always align with the North in General Elections. Politics and electioneering is a game of numbers. In the gubernatorial election in Kano, close to 2million votes were recorded. What was the total votes of the South East in the presidential election.


I think more than ever before, this election has shown that whoever wants to become the president of Nigeria does not really need to bother too much about the south east, especially with the way they voted in this election. If such a person can win significant number of states in the South South, south west and an appreciable number in the North.
