PoliticsCSP Akerele Vows Crackdown On Environmental Offences by Godspowerpro(op): 4:40am On Mar 19
Lagos Taskforce Chairman, CSP Akerele Vows Crackdown on Environmental Offences, Rejects Social Media Blackmail

Psalm 150:6 KJV
[6] Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce), CSP Adetayo Akerele, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and maintaining order across Lagos, while strongly rejecting allegations of misconduct leveled against its operatives, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

Speaking at a quarterly media parley held at the Multi-Agency Safety Arena in Bolade-Oshodi, CSP Akerele outlined the Taskforce’s broad mandate to ensure a “safe and convenient metro-city” through sustained enforcement and public engagement.

“The primary duty of the Lagos State Taskforce is to make Lagos, your Lagos, our Lagos, environmentally safe and convenient for all residents,” he said, highlighting routine advocacy, raids on criminal hideouts, removal of shanties, and enforcement against street trading, open defecation, and traffic violations as key strategies.

CSP Akerele disclosed that the Lagos State Government would resume its monthly voluntary environmental sanitation exercise from April 2026, noting that the Taskforce would play a central role in its implementation to boost public health outcomes.

Addressing recent controversies surrounding enforcement activities on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, the Chairman emphasized that regulations guiding their use are in the public interest. “The rules governing the operation or use of the BRT were put in place in the interest of the public, which is what the corridor serves and not Akerele, not members of the Taskforce, not any single agency of the government, but the larger Lagos,” he stated.

He also recounted an incident involving a social media personality and owner of Objectv who allegedly misrepresented the actions of the Taskforce. According to Akerele, the individual falsely accused operatives of wrongdoing after a vehicle was lawfully impounded for traffic violations.

“The driver in question actually contravened state traffic laws. He was lawfully arrested for the offences,” he clarified, adding that attempts to pressure the agency through “subtle blackmail” would not succeed.

Reaffirming the agency’s stance, Akerele declared: “No single individual is greater than an entire state, no individual’s interest should outweigh the interests of Lagosians.”

"We will continue to refuse to cow or let the selfish interests or demands of individuals to distract or derail us from our fundamental duties and roles as the custodian of an environmentally friendly Lagos, thus, to do otherwise is to denounce the confidence that the Governor of Lagos Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on behalf of Lagosians reposed in us."

He assured residents of the Taskforce’s openness to constructive feedback, while maintaining that it would not be deterred from its mission to restore order and environmental sanity across the state.

According to the statement, "In a goodwill message marking the occasion, Bakare-Oki commended the Muslim Ummah for their spiritual devotion, resilience and moral uprightness throughout the fasting period."

"While conveying his goodwill, the LASTMA General Manager reaffirmed the Authority’s firm commitment to enforcing traffic laws, stressing that there will be zero tolerance for all forms of traffic violations before, during, and after the festive period."

"He advised motorists, commercial drivers and other road users to avoid reckless driving, illegal parking, route violations, unauthorised off-loading, driving against traffic (one-way) and other unsafe practices that could endanger lives and disrupt traffic flow."

“While we celebrate this important occasion, all road users must exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic rules. LASTMA will not tolerate any action that puts lives at risk or hinders the free flow of traffic,” he stated.

Bakare-Oki further assured residents and visitors that the Authority has put in place a comprehensive and well-coordinated traffic management plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement across major roads and busy areas within the State.

He disclosed that personnel have been strategically deployed to key locations, including highways, major junctions and areas expected to witness increased socio-religious activities in order to prevent congestion and respond swiftly to any traffic-related issues.

The General Manager added that LASTMA officials will maintain round-the-clock monitoring and traffic control operations, working closely with other security and emergency agencies to ensure safety, maintain order and minimise traffic disruptions during the celebrations.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority remains committed to delivering effective traffic management services, especially during peak and festive periods, in line with its vision of ensuring a safer and more efficient transportation system in Lagos.

Maiduguri, Borno State - The 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc(+), NPM, on Tuesday paid a working visit to Borno State following the recent bomb explosion that left several persons injured.

During the visit, the IGP met with victims of the blast currently receiving treatment and expressed deep sympathy over the incident.

He was received by the Deputy Governor of Borno State, His Excellency, Usman Umar Kadafur, who congratulated the IGP on his appointment and commended his prompt response to the incident.

“For an incident that happened last night and for you to be on ground this morning is a sign of seriousness,” the deputy governor said, describing the visit as a morale booster for the people of the state.

According to him, the presence of the IGP at this critical time underscores the Federal Government’s concern for the safety and well-being of Borno residents. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continued collaboration with security agencies to achieve desired peace.

A Federal Donor secured by LSSTF commence constructions of brand new Police Stations in Lagos

Psalm 150:6 KJV
[6] Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Lagos State’s security architecture is set for a major boost as the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has successfully secured a federal donor to fully fund the construction of new and modern Police stations strategically located across the state. The construction works have begun immediately, and will run in phases to capture many other Police stations, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

The new facilities currently ongoing are sited at Morogbo Police Division in Badagry; Elere Police Division in Agege; Hogan Bassey Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Yaba; Oko Awo Police Station in Jankara, Lagos Island; MAN Centre Police Station in Ikeja; and a Police Division in Ilasamaja. This spread reflects a deliberate geographic balance designed to enhance operational efficiency and response time across key urban and semi-urban corridors in Lagos.

The landmark intervention, facilitated under the leadership of the LSSTF Executive Secretary/CEO, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, underscores a growing synergy between public institutions and donor-backed initiatives aimed at strengthening internal security in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre. With an estimated population exceeding 20 million people and a steady daily influx of thousands, many existing Police facilities, some decades old, have struggled with capacity constraints, outdated equipment, and inadequate working environments.

The new stations are expected to address these gaps by providing purpose-built structures equipped for contemporary policing demands. For example, the Hogan Bassey Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Yaba is anticipated to significantly enhance intelligence-led operations against kidnapping and organized crime, while the Morogbo Division in Badagry will strengthen border and coastal security operations along Lagos’ western flank. Similarly, the Elere Division in Agege and the Ilasamaja Division are positioned to improve community policing and crime prevention in densely populated neighborhoods. The two (2) in commercial hubs such as Ikeja and Lagos Island will support more efficient law enforcement coverage for financial institutions, markets, and corporate establishments.

This infrastructure lift is also expected to have broader socio-economic implications with many Police officers working under conducive environments, enhanced quality of life for residents, and increased investor confidence.

As the construction is progressing, expectations are high that the new facilities will set a benchmark for Police infrastructure development across Nigeria. The phased development across Lagos will also ensure that many other Police stations will feel the impact of infrastructure upgrades.

Since his appointment in October 2025, the LSSTF under the leadership of Dr. Ogunsan has intensified efforts to bring together government, private sector actors, and development partners to support law enforcement agencies. These partnerships are ensuring that security agencies are better equipped to tackle evolving threats. This latest achievement of securing a single federal donor to underwrite the full cost of six stations has been described as a testament to the Fund’s credibility, transparency, and strategic vision.

Yeah, I am a professional graphics designer and I have a ministerial work (Pastor). I've been a graphics designer before going into the ministry so I felt I should continue my business which will actually fund me to sustain and get other things done. I am a teacher and a psychological therapist, I do a lot of things for fun, mostly gaming and designing and other things that allow me to socialize with people is the orphanage.
Christianity is not only about going to church, offering your service, paying your tithes and offering, for me I pray to be in a position where I'm able to do an empowerment for the community in general.
It brings me joy to see others survive, make it and achieve their set goals.

What I think human beings have in common most is survival
No matter the situation we are in, for example let's take Nigeria, no matter how terrible the Year might have been people will still come together during the Christmas and the festive periods to celebrate with loved ones. So that's it for me, the common thing we humans have is survival

I will definitely like to be remembered for my philanthropy, because for me givers never lack.
I'm a kind of person that loves to give so definitely I would love to be remembered for the positive changes I have made in my community and my family in general

More than a million I believe
Yes more than a million
I said more than a million because apart from the fact that from about 1 year to about 8 or so, I really can't remember all that happened but I know that I was a church boy, not exactly a pastor's child but I was always in the church and interacted with people in church.
From that age, I delved into music which is a highly social path.
So, from people joining the choir and me moving to other choirs, playing at different concerts and churches in Lagos and outside, different places I have lived, schooled, courses I've done, I believe I have Interacted with over a million people, and I say this because I'm a musician and music moves me around a lot.
I would want to be remembered as a musician who made positive music that healed and impacted lives

I would say yes I have met a million people. I was born into an extended family, that's a large number on its own,
I went to school, met a lot of people in my school, from primary school through secondary to university, and I go to a church where there is a lot of people there, Winners Chapel, so yes, and I'm a hair vendor for crying out loud.
I'm on the internet, and across social media, interacting with customers on a daily basis. I believe I've met more than that from birth till now

I have learnt a lot, both good and bad, both what they taught me verbally and by their behavior, and what experience taught me itself.
But the greatest thing I learnt from people is to always be myself; always be yourself around people, because if you're trying to be someone else to please people, they'll still have something negative to say about that someone else you're trying to be to please them. So just be yourself.
I keep an open mind when I meet someone for the first time, to receive and know the category to place the person; among the intelligent or dumb ones.

I want to be remembered at the end of my journey, at my very old age (it has to be at very old age) as the person that came into my life and my life changed. People should remember me as the light that I didn't know I needed, because I'm gifted with waking people up, confused people that don't know the next step to take, people that have the resources, I come into their life, wake them up, and all of a sudden they start working, start doing something because I spoke into their darkness and they received light.
So I would want to be remembered as someone that brought life into someone's life

LSSTF excited as 'Lagos Pride' Tunji Disu appointed as Acting IGP; Ogunsan says 'RRS products are now leading the Force'

Psalm 150:6 KJV
[6] Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has sent hearty congratulations to the acting Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ag. IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu on his appointment to the no. 1 Policing role in Nigeria. The appointment which happened yesterday followed the resignation of the immediate past IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

It would be recalled that the LSSTF boss, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan had received AIG Tunji Disu in the LSSTF Headquarters only a few days ago upon his assumption as AIG in charge of the Force CID Annex Alagbon, Lagos. However, as things would shape up, in quick succession, AIG Disu has left Lagos to take up the pinnacle role in the Nigeria Police Force, Abuja. The ag. IGP Disu was earlier decorated today with the new rank by President Bola Tinubu and has since moved to the Force Headquarters where he was welcomed by the immediate past IGP Egbetokun. He awaits confirmation of the Police Council to become the substantive IGP.

The LSSTF boss, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, conveying the message of the public-private funding agency, LSSTF reiterated that ag. IGP Olatunji Disu is not only a Lagos born, he also did excellently well in his role as the Commander of the Lagos-owned special outfit, Rapid Response Squad RRS. This role, he highlighted 'defined ag. IGP Tunji Disu's career, warmed him into the hearts of Lagosians as the Head of 'The Good Guys of Lagos' as the RRS came to be known since his tenure, and emblazoned widespread goodwill on him across Nigeria.'

He added that Disu is a fine, athletic Police officer who has won laurels for Nigeria in sports internationally, and has also abundantly flourished in all roles that he has worked over the years. 'The track record of ag. IGP Disu will continue to shine for him in this new position. I believe that he is going to be exceptional.'

'With the assumption of ag. IGP Disu into this new role, I can clearly say that we are doing something right at the LSSTF. Our brainchild, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), is growing stronger and stronger. It is producing the best of officers across the Nigeria Police. It has produced former IGP Kayode Egbetokun. Now it has produced our acting IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. RRS products are now leading the Force'

'I pray for our acting IGP Disu that he will enjoy the strength of the Lord, the wisdom and guidance required to succeed, and protection as he works on this Herculean job. May you finish well, may you finish strongly in the service of the motherland,' Ogunsan prayed.

Thank You Jesus

Gbajabiamila Warns Against Rising Vices, Pledges Support for Ugokwe's Special Committee

Psalm 150:6 KJV
[6] Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD

The Presidency has affirmed its support for the Special Committee on Campaign Against Social Vices in Secondary and Tertiary Institutions, describing its mandate as critical to Nigeria’s future.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, gave the assurance, on behalf of the presidency on Thursday, during a meeting with members of the committee led by its chairman, Professor Jerry Ugokwe at the State House, Abuja, according to a statement signed by the State House Director of Information & Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

He expressed confidence in the integrity and capacity of the committee, noting that its designation as a “special committee” underscores the importance of its assignment, which centres on the wellbeing and moral development of young Nigerians.

The Chief of Staff warned that rising social vices among youths constitute a growing national concern, stressing that although young people are often described as the future, deliberate and coordinated action is required to secure that future.

According to him, many of the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms are forward-looking and targeted at the younger generation, cautioning that failure to properly guide and support youths could undermine the long-term gains of those reforms.

Gbajabiamila emphasised that tackling the menace requires a whole-of-society approach involving parents, teachers, religious leaders, communities and relevant institutions. He noted that the challenge has assumed near-pandemic proportions globally.

“It takes a community to raise a child, it’s not just about the parents anymore, it’s about the clergy, your neighbour, the teachers, so we all stand in locus parentis for the children.

“We cannot sit-back and do nothing and expect this country to grow or develop if you do not start from the foundation”, he noted.

He also underscored the strong link between law and morality, describing moral re-orientation as fundamental to addressing social vices in schools and campuses.

The Chief of Staff highlighted that government of the day has introduced policies and reforms targeted at youths and encouraged them to take advantage of the windows of opportunities offered.

While urging the committee to think innovatively and adapt to changing realities, Gbajabiamila drew from his experience of engaging students directly through school visits, saying such interactions have produced positive feedback.

He assured the committee of the Federal Government’s readiness to collaborate, adding that efforts would be made to mobilise support from corporate organisations through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and to explore possible budgetary provisions.

As a demonstration of personal commitment, he announced a ₦50 million seed donation to support the committee’s work, to be released in two tranches beginning with ₦25 million. He further assured members that his office would remain open for sustained engagement.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Professor Jerry Ugokwe, expressed appreciation for the audience and for the vision behind the committee’s establishment.

He said the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to confronting social vices among Nigerian students through a structured presidential intervention, describing youth moral wellbeing as a national priority requiring sustained institutional attention.

Professor Ugokwe explained that the committee’s mandate includes identifying and addressing social vices in schools, promoting discipline and responsible leadership, and collaborating with institutional authorities and security agencies to combat cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, cybercrime and related offences.

He added that the committee is also responsible for organising sensitisation campaigns and recommending policies to strengthen student welfare, campus security and academic excellence.

The chairman noted that since its inauguration, the committee has moved from policy to action, successfully holding major engagements in Edo and Kwara States as part of its nationwide drive.

He therefore appealed for the Chief of Staff’s strategic backing and stronger institutional ownership, including approval and logistical support for a proposed grand national launch of the campaign at the State House Conference Hall.

Professor Ugokwe assured the Presidency of the committee’s commitment to transparency, measurable outcomes and sustained stakeholder engagement.

Also speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, Comrade Sunday Asefon, who led members of the committee to the State House, highlighted the urgency of the intervention, citing a tragic case of a university student whose death was linked to drug intoxication.

He said such incidents underscore the need for a coordinated national response to rising social vices among young people.

According to Asefon, the committee was deliberately structured as a multi-stakeholder platform bringing together education authorities, religious leaders and other critical actors to drive holistic value reorientation among students.

He disclosed that following the committee’s inauguration, his office engaged the Federal Ministry of Education, which subsequently made a budgetary provision for the committee in the 2025 fiscal year, describing it as a useful starting point.

Despite limited resources, Asefon noted that the committee has already conducted programmes in Edo and Kwara States and is planning a larger national engagement in Abuja.

He therefore appealed for stronger institutional support, stressing that the committee’s work aligns closely with the administration’s broader youth development and nation-building agenda.

PoliticsNUPENG PTD Ejigbo Has Proper Biometric Ids- Babatunde, Says No To Ganiyu Faction by Godspowerpro(op): 8:07pm On Feb 26
'Our Union NUPENG PTD Ejigbo has proper biometric IDs for all bonafide members' - Authentic Chairman, Najeem Babatunde, says no to Ganiyu Oyebola-led faction, Protests

Psalm 150:6 KJV
[6] Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD
.

The Chairman of the NUPENG PTD Ejigbo depot, Najeem Babatunde has urged all Nigerians, the government, law enforcement agencies, and the Law Court to help the Union weed out fake personalities who are parading themselves as members of the Union. Describing the recent incidents involving maiming of law-abiding citizens, destruction of properties, and unlawful protests as a 'sad development' which is aimed at disrupting the ongoing peaceful electioneering process in the Union, he pleaded with the general public to continue to transact with the organization which is well known across the country.

The authentic Chairman of NUPENG PTD Ejigbo, Mr. Najeem Babatunde made his assertion at a press briefing which he convened yesterday Wednesday, consequent to the Tuesday protests and recent happenings in Ejigbo. The intervention, he considered necessary so that Nigerians will know their side of the story and continue to work with the authentic Union duly recognized by law.

Mr. Najeem Babatunde reacted: 'What we saw yesterday was abnormal, the reason we have to counter that. We have clarification, we don't want a situation whereby the thugs, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), use our office as an identification because we are the real and authentic Petroleum Tanker Drivers in Ejigbo.'

'In the Year 2022, we went into an election in Shangisha, Magodo where we were elected. To resume at the office on the following day became a major issue. When we got to the office, we met different people, thugs, OPC, who occupied the office, chasing us with cutlasses, bottles etc so, we had to run for our lives telling us we should not be seen around.'

'Ever since, that is what they have been doing. They are always in possession of stones, bottles, asking us not to stay in the area. On our way for a break last week, they attacked us, throwing stones and bottles at us. with cutlasses. Some of us were injured with cutlasses. We had to run for our lives.'

Mr. Najeem Babatunde demonstrated their lawful association with the NUPENG at the national level, 'We are appealing to the government to come to our aid in this situation. We are not touts like them, we are original members of PTD, Ejigbo Unit. We are under Lagos Zonal Council, Lagos Zonal Council has about eight units, including Mosimi, NNPC Ejigbo, NNPC Ibadan, NNPC Ilorin. We are under Lagos Zonal Council being led by Comrade Omogbolahan Adigun. We are tired of this type of situation.'

'Our leaders have been trying. They are law abiding leaders. They like to follow the law. They don't want a situation whereby we have a clash with them. They are trying their possible best to resolve the issue but they are not allowing it. Even our leaders came here but were chased away with cutlasses and bottles.'

Babatunde stressed: 'There's no faction among us. We have regular elections which come up every four years. If you like me you would follow me. If you don't like me, you follow another, that's the way elections are. But they are now using cane to chase away our supporters.'

'Meanwhile, the man Ganiyu Oyebola boycotted the elections because he has no members, but OPC and thugs as members. All our bonafide members are here with their biometric cards which is our own identity card issued by the Union. His followers do not have identity cards, it's because they don't have the ID cards that they boycotted the election. Even their leader Comrade Ganiyu Oyebola doesn't have a membership ID card. He has never been to the unit to fill his membership card with just N200 for almost 15 years. He's definitely not part of us.'

Babatunde stressed that due to the impasse, there is little or no economic activity ongoing in the Ejigbo depot. 'Loading is not happening in Ejigbo anymore. This problem is affecting our business. We are appealing to the Federal Government to bring fuel back so that we can commence our work. Even our national leaders have appealed to the Federal Government to back fuel to all NNPC units. Please we need help.'

He appreciated the Nigeria Police for taking necessary actions in the past 10 days. 'They attacked us again on 16th February. Now, some of their members are currently in Kirikiri as we speak. That's what we want, we don't want thugs here anymore. We are saying no to thugs and OPC members in this vicinity.

Lending his voice to the matter, the Secretary of NUPENG PTD Ejigbo depot, Akeem Kelani added: 'The situation here is not okay at all. Mr Ganiyu Oyebola is using thugs and OPC to terrorise us. The man led about 16 years ago but since then, he has never participated in the activities of the Union. We renew our membership registration every year and he has never taken part since 16 years ago. We have had past Chairmen who were elected for a period of four years. We have our Constitution for election, the elected member is to serve a four year term, after that, members could vote for your re-election. When the tenure of the last administration lapsed, there was a way of conducting the election. The election date and venue were posted here but Ganiyu Oyebola denied and boycotted the election stating he wanted to rule by force which is not normal.'

'He's fond of fighting everybody, he would fight NNPC staff, Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), Independent Marketers Branch (IMB), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), NATO, we are all here, he fought all of them, he has no good name at all. We want the government to intervene in this matter not briefly but permanently because we are law abiding citizens.'

What they did 10 days ago, 16th February was bad, so the Police charged them to court, I don't know if they have perfected their bail conditions.'

A member of the NUPENG PTD, Ejigbo Unit who was injured at the fight on 16th February, Adeniran Taiwo said: 'I thank God that I am still alive today. On that fateful day, when I saw the guys, I was wondering who they were, I don't know I was one of their targets, I heard two among them say, Oyebola (10 million) asked us to kill one person, that was when I ran but I can't run very well because of my age. The boy who pursued me injured me with a broken bottle. People carried me to the police station to obtain a statement before being taken to hospital for treatment.'

Another injured member, Adeniyi Lukman said: 'Last week Monday, my boss called me to prepare for Apapa for fuel loading but I had to fetch water to put inside the engine. As I was coming with the water on my head, i started seeing some known OPC faces which I know very well, and they started throwing stones and bottles towards me. A broken bottle was smashed on my forehead, that was the last I knew before I was rushed to the hospital. The guys confessed to being sent by their boss, Oyebola (10 million) to kill anyone. We were like three or four that were injured and treated in hospital.'

The NUPENG PTD Ejigbo depot is calling on the Federal Government, the Law Court, the Nigeria Police Force, and all well-meaning Nigerians to help restore stability and harmony so that they can continue their economic activities.

PoliticsNUPENG PTD: Violence Cannot Lead The Struggle For Workers Right by Godspowerpro(op): 1:03pm On Feb 25
Psalm 150:6 KJV
[6] Let every thing that hath breath Praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD

The turmoil that unfolded on the 23rd of February, 2026 within the ranks of the NUPENG PTD Ejigbo depot in Lagos serves as a sobering reminder that the fight for workers’ rights must never be allowed to devolve into chaos. Nigeria’s labour movement has a proud history of courageous advocacy, but when factional or agitational protests become violent, the values that unions stand for are undermined.

What transpired on that day was a dangerous departure from peaceful civic expression that PTD NUPENG is known for. A splinter group who are majorly non members of the union loyal to Alhaji Ganiyu Oyebola, known as “10Million,” a former chairman of NUPENG PTD EJIGBO staged a protest that was aimed at forcing the hands of law enforcement agencies into doing wrong, and also to undermine the Law Court and its processes. This is a travesty of justice which should not be allowed to stand.

A brief background into the Ejigbo depot impasse reveals that there is already an upcoming election to elect new executives for the labour union. However, instead of preparing for the upcoming elections, the Oyebola-led group took to violence. They attacked the real members who showed their willingness and readiness for the elections through printing and posting posters of their preferred candidate. While they were pasting the posters in and around the Ejigbo depot on the 16th of February, 2026, they were gravely attacked.

A straightforward, peaceful electioneering process quickly degenerated into physical attacks on recognized members of the union. Several individuals were brutally injured, some left in pools of blood, and rushed to hospitals.

This violent turn of events caused the Nigeria Police Force to sweep into action and arrested everyone involved in the mayhem. The Police also swiftly charged them to court in line with the laws of the land, and the case has since been before the magistrate.

Rather than allow the law to take its process, Alhaji Ganiyu Oyebola, known as “10Million,” and his splinter group took to the streets in today's protest. They also engaged civil society organizations who would not seek to understand the root of the matter before proceeding to protest. They are seeking to armtwist the magistrate and the Police to release thugs who were involved in the violence that led to the maiming of law-abiding citizens who are going about their civic duty to elect new executives for their labour union.

The conduct of the former chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Oyebola at the protest scene is thus troubling and shocking. Upon seeing journalists, he avoided questions and refused to explain his group’s role in the violent clashes. Leadership demands courage, especially in moments of crisis. His silence in the face of serious allegations is the evasion of true leadership.

Adding to the complexity of the situation was the involvement of a civil society organization, Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURWA) that was engaged. A representative of the CSO stated: “We learned that two factions are clashing and one of them is on ground known and recognized as the one that has the base. Some people claimed that they were attacked, some were injured and admitted into the hospital, and they reported it at the Police station. But they are alleging that the Police appears to have been bought. It is not like the Police went to the scene; it is the people who went to the Police to report and they were reported. This is the information we gathered in our office.”

He went on to call for accountability: “Our demands are very clear. We are calling for immediate, impartial investigation into the role played by officers of the Ejigbo division and Zone D. We are calling on the leadership of Petrol Tanker Drivers to come and intervene on this matter before it degenerates into a fracas.”

If every allegation of intimidation as cited by the HURWA representative is true, will it also qualify violence and permit a staged protest that took place without the consent of the Nigeria Police Force? When actions of a group become unlawful and turn violent, they become morally unacceptable and counterproductive for the development of society.

The protest today and the previous violence have endangered the lives of fellow workers and disrupted public order. Everyone involved in the fracas must be immediately brought to justice no matter whose ox is gored. Those who were injured must get adequate medical attention for which they should not bear the cost. The Ganiyu Oyebola-led group must be made to stop its unlawful acts and wait for the judgement of the Court.

Nigeria cannot afford to let union disputes fuel societal instability.
