We need to stop training men that they have to be some false bullshit B-movie hero in order to be “real men”. Boys should be allowed to be themselves, to seek whatever destiny they want, just like girls should be. This is a classic example of how patriarchal culture harms men as well as women.

And although stoicism is a good practice to transcend neediness and to learn to control emotions better, pretending you don't feel anything harms and damages your psychology.

Toxic Masculinity is Insecure Masculinity

The sayings "Man up!" and "That's not what boys/men do" are the reigning sentiments of Toxic Masculinity. You're not doing it because you want to, but because you want to be a man, be a big boy, etc. The phrase "Man up!" is another way of saying shut up. Shut up and accept whatever bad thing is happening that you care about. That sentiment is why a lot of men see men who care about issues and say they are "soyboys" or too feeling. Men aren't supposed to care. They're supposed to accept it and adapt to a life around it instead of not letting life get this bad in the first place

Despite the fact that Toxic Masculinity is a term constantly misused by women to the point of maliciousness, it IS a real thing.
