Tunisia has an Afcon ooo. 2004 as hosts. And club football like you said, they have really deep sound pedigree. Also been to 6 WCs. 2026 will be their 7th. Also first African side to win a WC match (1978). They are no small fry.

Cameroun has been to more (. Nigeria, Morocco and Tunisia tied on 6 but now we will be overtaken by both North Africans at the 2026 WC.

National team football is my criteria and one Afcon trophy is not enough to be considered powerhouse in my own view o even DRC has two Afcon titles! Morocco with a semifinal finish (that’s like an Afcon trophy) at a World Cup makes them more of a powerhouse along with their only one Afcon trophy than Tunisia.
