safarigirl: lol....well, let's hope the move doesn't materialise
Uzoho is sha playing well where he is, and we really can't say if the coach would have played him in the first team with or without Romero's move.
Time will tell sha Not that I rate Romeo, I think he is just an average gk ( I like his beards by the way). But going by his pedigree as Argentine first choice for almost 10 years and ex Man Utd keeper, he will have the first spot at Deportivo for himself for the next 2-3 years at least. Uzoho automatically goes from 3rd to 4th choice till a native Spanish keeper burst through the scene. |

Apparently Sergio Romeo is angling for a transfer to Deportivo la carona from Man utd due to lack of game time leading up to the world cup. If the move materialized, the Argentine will kill 2 birds with one stone, if you know what I mean. |

terzurum5: A valid question for our candid considerations Sir. I think this is another area we need to deliberate on seriously and make recommendations to the appropriate quarters.
What can we do to improve on poor spectators in our stands during matches? cc: Komekn, Forgiveness, Safarigirl, TheGoodJoe, TheSuperNerd, Bascovanveli, Kog45, Dannycrusoe, Kennysville, LakeSidePapa, Orkpekyandega, tbaba1234, Joebie, joseph1013, Goldfish80, AIG07, Isahalbash, Joebie, Kog45, Goldfish80, daveP, kennysville, realpoacher, certitude, humility017, enomakos, Mikael2, petrobros, chrisoblog, loogan, do4luv14, icon79, maidaboi, Icon4s, lakesidepapa, goldfish80, Xzbit91, lexyman, ChrisKels, bigblangston, goke7, Chrismario, Daninya11, shawwal1, ganiyat2adeyeri, yemyke001, edi287, krattoss, eseose9, oasis007, jihday, tglobal, jars, Cheapgoals, mikron, elyte89, MilitaryCommander, kratoss, e.t.c This is a a very critical question that may take something akin to writing a monogragh to answer. I will try keep it as brief as possible. To bring fans to the stadium and encourage league patronage, the right structures must be put in place, from bottom up. Club structure Looking at the organogram of our league clubs, its quite sad what you have is an elaborate civil service and political structure. Yiu basically have the potus like CEO who is in charge of virtually everything about the club (transfers, players/coaches recruitment, salaries, scouting, marketing etc). I will be hard pressed if any Nigerian club have a director of football, media consultant, head of operations, chief scout, brand manager etc. Club CEOs are like sole administrators in Nigeria. If I wasthe CEO of an Npfl clubside, my first appointment will be a director of football and brand manager. Without structures like these anchored by an active board, our clubsides won't have the human resources to drive home any clear cut vision. quality of the football This is a broad topic. Many things c8me into play to have an improved level of football. Facilities, technology, coaches, agents, players, renumeration .... I will pick on Nigerian players and their agents. The lack of professionalism by Npfl players and their agents stinks to high heavens. Npfl players sign contracts wuth the caveat that they can leave anytime an offer for trial abroad comes up. The clubs themselves are handicapped , they cannot plan for a season depending on any player because he can leave for trial any minute. How can you have decent football standard if you can loose a key player on your way to a crucial game? Stephen Obey nearly snookered Mfm last season when he disappeared suddenly. Branding Npfl clubs must get their branding sorted. People should start thinking outside the box. Mushroom companies buy slots on radio to advertise their agbo and jedi jedi bitters. But big Npfl clubs are not heard of in their states. No radio/tv programs to engage the fans . I was passing through a particular stadium the other day and I noticed they wrote their fixture list in the up coming season on a chalk board. No brand appeal whatsoever. A freaking chalk board? How much is an electronic display board? Oh my goodness. Let me stop before I totally loose it. |

TheGoodJoe: Mikel Obi did not earn raving reviews because he did not play a flamboyant role but he was influential in Chelsea playing a vital role for the club. During that period, Chelsea was one of the most successful clubs in World football.
Due to his sacrifice for football, people may not be screaming his name but sure, Mikel Obi is one of the biggest icons of African football.
Tell them I said that. Whatever you say stands bro. You're the authority.

Mujtahida: Okay, let's wait till Mikel retires from football then cos Diouf and Amunike weren't contemporaries. Meanwhile this Amunike/Mikel issue proves my point(I know they they don't play the same wing) Amunike has more individual quality but club wise Mikel achieved more. What's my business with what Mikel achieved with Chelsea? Aveerage player like Ricardo Feriera and Salomon Kalou also achieved with Chelsea .A very poor player like Djimi Traore won the champions league with Liverpool . This is a team sport after all. Pound for pound, player for player Mikel has nothing on Amuneke. Let's be pragmatic please, Mikel is not influential across the continent. He was never a big name or stood out for Chelsea like Drogba. |

Mujtahida: They were not relegation candidates. They played only one season in the primera division throughout the time Rashidi was there. Basically he was playing for a division two club in Portugal. Point is that those who look at the quality of a club before giving a player chance in the team would have used the fact that Rashidi was playing for a division two club to criticize his inclusion in the team not to talk of being our top nine. They will not see the fact that his scoring such goals in a wretched team shows his class, they will just close their minds and start reeling names of other players. Rashidi came to the team when they were in division 2, his goals helped them gain promotion (top scorer in div 2) In the Premiere, he emerged top scorer and claimed the Apoty. (He achieved all these while being the least paid player in the club) One again, I don't know what youre trying to prove. I have never judged a player by the league they played. I look at performance. I honestly cannot figure out the corner stone of your argument. |

Mujtahida: He! Comments here generally have been measured especially from the regulars. Hopeful, expectant but not boastful. This is why I often intervene to correct wrong perceptions and once a person does that it's taken that the person is supporting the status quo. Let me give an example. A moniker was opposed to Martins. Said is no good for the team because he plays in China. I had to intervene to point out that Ighalo plays in China. I did so not necessarily because I support Martins but because his reasons for opposing Martins were not valid.
Take the current debate: I am well aware of the defencies of this team and I did say you are well within your place to question the performance of the players in their rights as players. But I will burst the myth that seeks to elevate the golden generation's club placements and performance over these current guys because the facts simply do not support such a view even if it's the romantic view held by most dreamy eyed Nigerians. Just yesterday I discovered setubal which Rashidi was playing for was a relegation team except one season throughout the four years he was there. Do I hate Rashidi? No but facts are facts.
So what you just said is hardly true about forumites being boastful is simply not true. Rashidi played for relegation candidates Setubal , he was the least paid player in the team, yet he emerged top scorer in the league 2 seasons in a row. This record screams quality and outstanding performance. I really can't figure what you're trying to prove |

tbaba1234: Iwobi had a bad first half, that was clear. Wilshere is playing a deeper role and is not in competition with Iwobi.
Iwobi has not been bad this season. I have seen games where Iwobi is one of the few Arsenal players doing anything of note. But i go online and see ridiculous comments. Sanchez has been far more atrocious but does not get as much stick.
Iwobi needs to convert his game play into goals and assists. Fans do not read stats on whoscored.com, all they see are goals and assists. Will disagree with you vehemently. I regard Arsenal fans as the most intelligent set of fans in the world. Iwobi doesnt get as much stick Ramsey, Xhaka, Giroud,Sanchez, Wenger,Kronke or Oezil receives. Some of the criticism that came Oezil and Wenger's way is borderline hate speech which should see some people arrested. Iwobi would have been suicidal if he got half of what is thrown at these guys I listed. |

tbaba1234: For Nigeria, it has not worked badly thus far.
You recognised here that there are other factors to success not just player club form. The incredible club form of Henry and Trezeguet could not be translated into success at the WC.
The costa rica team in Brazil was not much to write home about but they shocked bigger teams. A good coach works to the strengths of his available players. We see Nigeria has been more organised defensively in recent times and very willing to launch effective counters. of course the story of the underdog like Costa Rica inspires, but it will be tomfoolery to use Costa Rica's achievement as a case in point to overrate our team. |

Mujtahida: You have not listed any achievements. Just names and clubs. I laughed when someone said that Amokachi was acknowledged in the stadium at Everton. That's nothing because the white man does such things as a courtesy.theres no time Jay Jay goes to Eintracht frankfurt and he's no given standing ovation yet some will see that and think Jay Jay was a beast for frankfurt meanwhile my guy was not even a regular as such.
You are doing something deceptive here and I will point it out to you now: you look at this players across the span of their professional careers and compare them to the present crop and say they are super at club levels. Apart from Amokachi and Rashidi and Finidi, tell me where the 94 team players were in before 94(WC year like majority of this set are) i have pointed out that player for player the 94 set were better. But club wise abeg drop it. They are on the same level.
So you think Onyekuru will not be given legend treatment when twenty years time he goes to Belgium? Wasn't Kayode top scorer in Austria? It's a fiction this narrative you guys are pushing. And ultimately it's pointless because remove this current guys from the picture. Who do you want in the team in place of Vicmo, Mikel? Amunike is an inspiration. Is that it? So have you not read at least three players saying Mikel is their inspiration? This comparisons are a waste of time. It's like comparing Rohr with Westerhof. It would turn out to be ridiculous because Rohr is just starting. All the facts on his performance are not yet in but all the facts on Westerhof are settled. Can you mention a non Nigerian player who listed Mikel as an inspiration? I'm interested in this case. I want to learn something new |

tbaba1234: Nigerian players play different roles at club level and national team level. Mikel and Moses, who are more defensive players at club level, play more adventurous roles in the national team. Iheanacho has not always played the top 9 role for Nigeria even against Argentina. Shehu plays as a right back.etc
It is not always useful comparing club form to national team.
In 2002, Henry and Trezeguet were unstoppable at club level but could not bark in the world cup.
We just need the players in top physical and mental shape. Playing different roles for club and country is not always a good thing. This affected the balance of the English national team for years when they teied to shoehorn lampard and Gerrard in the same team. Capello and the other managers stuck Gerrard on the wings. We know how the storh ended. The partnership of Henry and Trezeguet gave France the the European championship in 2000. The 2002 team failed in Korea and Japan due to off field issues just like witnessed in 2010. |

Many people(non nigerians) would argue that the Egyptian team is better Dan the super eagles .
How do we choose our players iwobi and iheanacho are not really good if u put sentiments apart just check arsenal page after most games iwobi plays and see the awful comments about him there
We have Ahmed musa who hasnt played a game for so longbut still makes our squad
we are busy clamouring for euro born players at their 6ixteens with no assurance that they would be great players and we avoid the home grown players doing well
my people before u start asking for solanke tomori or any oda players with Nigerians parents born in Europe that nobody knows about with no zeal or dream to play for the super eagles
Ask urself have u given the real Nigerians a fare shot??
Here Arabs voted for jnr ajayi against sadio mane and another Arab guy ask urself if it were iwobi if the results would still go in out favour I talked up Stanley Ohuawuchi sometime ago. The guy caused African defenders headache these past few years in the champions league. Junior Ajayi looks a good prospect from what I saw last season but I'm not fully convinced. I really fear for Iwobi, he havent acquainted himself well om the Arsenal team. Just a goal to his name all season is simply not good enough. He had a very torrid performance against Liverpool but people here will prefer to play the ostrich. With Wilshire coming back to form and contract negotiations in view, Iwobi could see less playing time this new year. |

And tell me which one was could be mentioned in the same breath as Baggio, or Gullit, or van Basten or Hagi or George Weah. HOw many players in the world could measure up to those names you listed? Our guys made the best out of what they had at the time. Finidi was rated as the world best winger at the time. I watched with pride a 30 mins documentary on espn classic years back on Finidi. He is a proper legend of Ajax and indeed European football. Emma Amuneke was something else in his prime. I came across El Hadji Diouf's interview when he was at Liverpool which he named Amuneke as his childhood idol. It dawned on me at the time that this guy indeed inspired young players across Africa not just in Nigeria. Amokachi is a proper legend and a very big name in Belgium. Historically, he scored the first ever champions league goal. I would have continued listing achievements of Yekini, Kanu, Okocha, Keshi, Richard Owobokiri, Oliseh, Rufai, Celestine BabYaro, Victor ikpeba, Taribo, etc , but it will turn into a blog post. Question is ... is it do-able? Answer is a resounding YES!!! Of course, impossible is nothing but you must understand ths realities on ground. We still have uncertainties surrounding our Gk Our best defender cannot get a game in a mid table German club, the rest of our defenders play in the championship, Holland, Cyprus, Belgium and average Turkish clubs. Our best midfielder is based in China, while the support cast play for average Turkish clubs, Isreal and mid table premiership club The attack is spearheaded by a Chinese based striker and Chelsea's right back. Leicester city misfits and a hot and cold Belgium based winger make up the numbers Yes, impossible is nothing but we must not overrate ourselves. |

Spain for all her glory clubs only got herself into football records in 2008-2012, England is to be pitied. The issue for me is not a matter of set. The issue is why do we produce average players? During the time of the golden generation not more than two or three made names. If not for national team football most of them they were unknown. That's how average they were. Fact! Which one was mentioned with George Weah, with shearer, with Owen, with Gullit, with Stoichkov, with Hagi, with Baresi, with Raul? None. How could you have made this statement? komekn: Firstly, in your quest to prove biased undue dislike you muddle the issues moving the goal posts. You make a proposition but with no substance.
Consider your proposition in bold. Firstly, I will reiterate there is a HUGE GULF AND DISPARITY between U17 and U20.
U17 is characterised by players some even 15 who have never played a senior professional game. The dynamics are different they are academy players mostly showing promise. They are not professional players yet mostly.
The U20 set up is intrinsically and entirely different across Europe not just England. We are not looking at prospects but seasoned young professional players at top clubs. For instance consider Demarai Grey he has played 160 professional games with 60 of those games in the EPL. There are other with far less games a reflection of the top clubs they play at and limited opportunities.
When you win an accolade as a young professional player as best U20 world cup playersl, you are really being recognised professionally. It's gone beyond prospect and potential. That's why clubs were queuing up to buy him incredibly cheap as well.
I DO NOT DO DOUBLE STANDARDS that would be deception and unprofessionalism. There is one yardstick in England for all players it doesn't change because you are Nigerian. I will not say treat players with kids gloves. ITS VERY TOUGH the competition is nasty, it's not fair, it's even corrupt. I prepare players for the reality of football not adulation from the terraces. I prepare them for WAR so they can succeed and not fail. I don't give false promises or pain things with rose tinted spectacles so they can feel good.
If I was advising KC he would not be in the quagmire he is in now. He is an excellent player but I've seen many excellent players fail. Because of not taking constructive criticism the right positional strategy and believing the distractive misguided hype from fans like you. It is unfortunate this have been the bane of Nigerian players, from the npfl players straight to the top. Their fans aren't helping matters. They seem to have pigeon holed themselves into seeing things from a particular perspective.
You ABSOLUTELY have no idea about the spirit behind what propels me or the intention behind my words. I face 1000% more racism each day than you can imagine. I overcome because I'm prepared for battle.
In that regard succes comes to those who are diligent in discipline and pursuing excellence. Overcoming multiple obstacles fair and unfair. You simply do not know what you are talking about. |

When I have been screaming about them being agents doing everything to get their players into the team, you all thought I was lying. Smh you know they were not scoring in their respective clubs while playing the qualifiers? They were playing and scoring for their clubs during the qualifiers. The qualifiers started in 2015 and ran through 2016-2017.... Kelechi, Musa and others were playing good football for their teams at the time. Tell me how many goals they scored at the qualifiers and friendly. The world cup level is 3 notches higher than qualifiers and friendly matches. Most of the goals they scored were patched up by their ho, e form. Away from home in the qualifiers they managed to score more than once against Zambia. For now they play and score well in the GWG. If they stop scoring, only then we can complain That's the difference with people like me, I don't wait for things to go wrong before thinking about solutions. It could be my training as an engineer to be preemptive,I dont know. Another thing is, with the way you keep harping about them not performing at their club sides but perform well together as a unit. If the world cup standard was the same as the qualifiers and friendlies, I will be chilled like everyone else Don't you think that Nigeria as a whole have a style of play?..just as we have the samba dance of Brazil? The brazilans don't play samba no more. European football have corrupted fhe samba like we know it. We are still trying to create our own style that's why Rohr played multiple formations in games Don't you think that when together, they play our style well and it produces results?
Must we play like the Europeans or The Americans?

Mujtahida: Dear forumites: I respect 94 squad. Player for player they have more quality than the present crop. But in terms of clubs and leagues this present guys even seem to be better evenly placed with more regular game time.
Current SE squad of at least 29 players
1-Mikel Obi - Tiajin Teda, China(regular) 2-Ighalo - Changchun yatai, China (regular) 3- Simon Moses - Gent, Belgium (regular) 4- Onyekuru - Anderlecht, Belgium(regular) 5- Uche A- Standard Liege, Belgium(regular) 6-Shehu A- Famagusta, Cyprus (regular) 7-Ekong - Burasipor, Turkey(regular) 8-Agu - Burasipor, Turkey (regular) 9-Omeruo - Kasimpasa, Turkey(regular) 10-Balogun - Mainz, Germany (not too regular) 11-Awaziem - Nantes, France(regular) 12-Vicmo - Chelsea, EPL(regular) 13-Ndidi - Leicester City, EPL(over regular) 14-Iheanacho - Leicester City, EPL (not regular at all) 15-Musa- Leicester City, EPL (not regular at all) 16-Iwobi - Arsenal, EPL(fairly regular) 17-Ebuehi - Ado den haag, Holland(regular) 18-Aina-Hull city, English Championship (regular) 19-Etebo - Fierense, Portugal(fairly regular) 20-Ogu - Hapoel, Isreal (regular) 21-Nwakaeme - Hapoel, Isreal (regular) 22-Idowu - Amkar Perm, Russia (regular) 23-Kayode - Girona, Spain (regular) 24-Echeijile - Sarvispor, Turkey(fairly regular) Gk 25-Akpeyi- SA, Chippa U (regular) 26-Ezenwa - unattached 27-Uzoho - Deportivo B, Spain(regular) 28-Ajiboye - Plateau U, Nig (regular) 29-Alampasu - Fierense, Portugal (not regular)
Please compare this list above with the one of the 94 set attached below (significant year is 94) Nigeria and indeed Africa was an emerging force in the world of football in 94. We were like the Iceland of 94 (if the narrative fits). It is understandable our players were gradually integrating themselves into main stream European football at the time, hence, they won't be super regulars until 2_3 years when they found their feet. When these guys fully matured in 1996, they walked to the Olympic gold. Same parameters cant be used to judge the 2018 set. They are not the pioneers.... The foundation have been laid for them by our heroes past. The paltry returns we have seen this season is even more inexcusable since you claim they are more regulars for their teams now compared to 1994 set. Take a look at the team you posted, only only Ighalo, Onyekuru, Nwakaeme have managed to hit any kind of form this season. Out of the 3 ,only Ighalo(who was only recently recalled after an uproar by some of us who saw Kelechi not good enough to spearhead the attack) is certain to play a role in the team come June 2018. Is this good enough? |

Mujtahida: I am not turning a blind eye. I am saying in spite of that what matters for the SE is that the goal return in the SE is healthy and I will hold that as a positive. Perhaps Martins will be brought in and everything will be just fine, I hope. No, Martins is too old for this team. Even if we disregard his age, the attackers we have currently are better than him. |

Mujtahida: Are you sure your findings are correct because Onyekuru alone has scored more than five goals na and even yesterday some tried to make you see that the goal return of our attackers for the SE is very healthy. Let them be playing and be active. I am not trying to down play scoring of goals but it's the thing that players score goals leading to the WC and at the WC proper they get marked out. I left Onyekuru out because he's been ruled out at least as at the time I made my initial post. The rest have contributed just 5 goals between between them, I listed about 7 players. You can't turn a blind eye to this paltry number because you think their goal return for the SE is very healthy |

chrisooblog: I think you are being overly presumptuous that we could have won the world cup. Football is not mathematics where by if you beat mr A it doesn't necessarily mean you will defeat Mr B. Remember bulgaria that we defeated also beat Argentina so they are no guarantees we would have beaten them again. Presumptuous? This is pure analysis, No football person will forecast a team which defeated her opponent 3:0 in the group stage to loose to the same team in the semi finals. It will take an unusual level of capitulation to loose. We beat same Bulgaria in 98 if our dominance was ever in doubt. Yes with hindsight we should have seen off the Italians but you make it sound as if the azzuri were completely rubbish. In my opinion it was tactical naivety and player irresponsibility (Okocha dribbling all over the place without purpose, oliseh's half hearted tackle that led to the Italians equalizer) that caused us that game not so much the loss of amunike and amokachii. After all they didn't do much before and after the goal. Can you point out were I made the Italians look rubbish? I basically said they took out the corner stone of our attack and thereafter, it was curtains. We managed just 1 shot on goal afterwards( a Jay Jay Okocha free kick). The Italians attacked down the wings. Their equalizing goal came as a result of a cut back from the left which Baggio scored from. Amuneke would have kept their fullback busy if he was on the the pitch. I understand your concern that we go with the very best players that can represent us and the world cup and not sentimentally stick to who is not performing clubwise but who are the replacements? If you agree that the players arent performing to world cup standard why argue in the first place when I stated the obvious? Bro I know you want the best for the super eagles but don't allow too much skepticism to blind you to the potential of our team. Our attackers goal returns this season have been poor. That is a fact, No skepticism there e our coach and players are not sacred cows that can't be criticized or questioned all some of us posters are saying is have a little faith at least our team deserves that much I have always had faith in the team. Before the game against Zambia, I told Micheal2 that we would qualify after the game . Before the Cameroun game, I told anyone who cared to listen that if we go with physically strong players, we will win easily. I was proved right in the end. This attitude that any critique of the team is bad could eventually be the undoing of the team but thankfully majority of Nigerians who I interact qith daily have different mindset to people here. |

Mujtahida: These players know what is at stake. I say this because of the fact that for the first time in a long while we have a team with players jostling for positions even in that gk dept (its just that they don't inspire confidence). So none of the players will rest on their oars. A while ago we looked thin at the full back positions now we are feeling the pain knowing that some players in the full back positions might be dropped. I have watched rohr say that the team needs to improve constantly and he said this long before we got the WC ticket.
Apart from iheanacho, balogun and musa who are the players not playing regularly in their respective clubs? But the impression given by you was that we have a team of average players who are worse still warming the bench in their clubs. Mike, ighallo, vicmo, Moses Simon, iwobi, ogu, shehu, aina, ebuehi, onazi, ndidi, agu, ekong, omeruo, awaziem, etebo, nwakaeme and most if not all the fringe players play regularly for their clubs.
While I agree about the work thing, I'd rather not say they should START working hard but CONTINUE working hard. Maybe you didnt follow my initial comments yesterday or you deliberately chose to ignore it. I made a study and posted my findings. As a matter of fact, I discovered that all our attackers combined with the exception of Ighalo and the much maligned Nwakaeme(he maybe dropped), the rest of them have contributed just 5 goals all season. Is this what you call world cup form? You're talking about game time, while I'm taking about performance. The fact is that , our attackers need to hit their strides really fast. Those playing must step up and be counted while the inactive ones must find solutions ASAP. Making semi finals in the world cup is no child's play. I honestly don't appreciate being misunderstood. |

Mujtahida: Both the pro and anti iheanacho camps are not good for discourses on the young man. Some act like iheanacho came out of their skin. People expressing their biases whether negative or positive using the young man as their field. It's enough cos it ain't healthy no more. The discussions doesn't show iheanacho. It shows you guys. I see no iheanacho. Aĺl I see is unhealthy, sick debates.
Personally I am aĺl joy when our players perform so I do not understand how someone will rejoice over nacho's plight just to prove an argument. More so the young man is in the SE on his merit because despite his travails at club levels he tries his best when in the gwg. I have looked around to see who that player is that iheanacho is denying a chance in the SE yet I see none but you guys want rohr to drop him. Are you guys who reason like this being realistic and fair at aĺl. Worse are those whose opinion suggest he should not be there because solanke is in their opinion better than him. How ridiculous can that be.
And sir komekn. Once iheanacho and osimhen are mentioned you warm up and talk with alot of putdowns. I really don't understand it. Sometimes it looks so personal to me. I think its time I put put things straight. Look, l have always tried as much as possible to criticize and profer solutions on my criticisms. It is on record I've come hard on Iwobi, Musa,Balogun, Ekong, Awaziem, Ezenwa, Akpeyi and the rest of them. Now, we are all cool when these names are critiqued but at the mention of Kelechi, all hell break loose. Is there a gag order I don't know about ? I respect the country club atmosphere in this thread but someone must say the truth at some point. Don't you feel your intelligence is insulated when someone tell you Kelechi is making progress? The Kelechi issue keep dragging on and on because people see his critics as bad belle people. Typical gutter Nigerian mentality. |

Mujtahida: Amokachi was not tearing anything in Belgium. He joined super eagles while he was in ranchers bees of kaduna. He later went to Belgium. Siasia was warming the bench in Belgium. Kog45 has given a list of the club's the golden generation were playing in and they were all average players playing for average teams. Some were not even playing. They were permanent bench warmers. When i pointed it out to you the last time you said 2027 is not 94 but here you are hyping amokachi. You guys hammering on the fact that our team is average don't understand what a team is all about. Its the same mentality that gets Nigerians hooked to certificates. We need a team with a winning mentality. That's all that matters. The story of the rabbit (stellar player/team) and the tortoise (average player/team) comes to mind. Hope you know we didn't win the world cup in 1994? That 94 team had their problems, from wrong tactics, nativity at times, poor game management, name it..... We We actually had a chance to win that world cup but we bungled it. But hey,we came back with the "most entertaining team " trophy and we are ok with it. As far as I'm concerned, it was inexcusable to loose against 10 men Italian team from a winning position. If we had scaled the Italian test, next in line would have been an underachieving Spain. I have no doubt in my mind that we would have taken them out (we won them in 1998 with a badly beat up team). In the semi final, we would have faced Bulgaria. The same team we whipped 3:0 in the group stages. The final against a very beatable Brazil. Recall the USA with a team of part timers and musicians exposed that Brazilian team after Leonardo's red card. We missed a trick in 94. This once more brings me to the question of inform players. Emanuel Amuneke was our most inform and hottest prospect in 94, the Italians understood this and they took him out. Immediately this happened our attack was shut down. We basically managed just 1 shot on target all game. I don't think this would have been the case if our attackers we in form as you have pointed out. If these guys we have now , know they are undroppable, there won't be motivation for excellence. The Nff gave them a semifinal target, if they are ready to meet that target, then they should start working. Getting a new club this January will be a step in the right direction. Otherwise, it will be 94 all over again |
