Unacceptable from Iwobi. You need to live the life of an athlete or it will show in your performances. The boy has great talent, it is time to get his head down and work.
Sometimes, I wonder how they manage young players at Arsenal. Same was the case with Wilshere, always partying and smoking. It appears his life has taken a new turn since he married and had a kid.
If Iwobi got married, some of these excesses will be cut and he will become more responsible.
A guy in the comment page on DailyMail said he was always fined for late coming in training

I don't buy this idea of excusing players fof not performing in their clubs just because "they play well for the super eagles" ( very debatable). This notion is too short sighted for my liking, it will ultimately bread mediocrity and downward career progression.

Look at boy people were willing to give the benefit of of doubt because he gave a an assist when he was ultimately dross all game. Partying into wee hours of the night with alcohol in his system and a hint of cannabis. Oh dear (!)
Well, what do I know? He is being overly criticized because he's Nigerian.

£30,000-a-week Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi is caught on video at 3am party hours before his side crashed out of FA Cup in shock defeat

Clip shows 21-year-old Nigerian international dancing and screaming at 2.37am
Next day he started in a pivotal role for Arsenal as they slumped to shock defeat
Sources report laughing gas canisters and smell of cannabis coming from party
No suggestion Iwobi took drugs, but fans slammed his performance as rubbish

Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has come under fire after a video of him emerged at a supposedly drug-fuelled party the day before the London side's shock FA Cup exit.
The clip shows the 21-year-old Nigerian international, who is on a reported £30,000-a-week at the Emirates, dancing and screaming at 2.37am on Saturday at a flat in Soho.
https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2018/01/09/00/47DC235500000578-5248557-image-m-42_1515457279845.jpg

And the next day he started in the pivotal number 10 role for the Gunners as they flopped to a 4-2 third round defeat to Championship team Nottingham Forest.
Fans have now called for his head, saying he doesn't deserve to be at the North London club.
Although there is no suggestion Iwobi was taking drugs, tenants in neighbouring flats reported laughing gas canisters and a strong smell of cannabis coming from the party apartment, according to The Sun.

The Snapchat video showed the footballer in the centre of the shot with the caption, 'Shouldn't Iwobi be sleeping?'.

Iwobi's social media habits have been a bugbear for many Arsenal fans, with many slating him for spending too much time on his phone posting pictures and videos of himself at Nando's, his luxurious lifestyle and previously with his ex Clarisse Juliette (pictured) before they split last year
A source told the paper the group had been refused entry to a club, so rented an AirBnB flat in Soho.
The partying kept residents awake for hours, and it is thought the antics went on for at least another hour.
Arsenal fans were furious with Iwobi's performance, describing him as 'rubbish' and saying he would be better suited to Championship level with Nottingham Forest.
And the emergence of the video has done nothing to stem the flow of the criticism.
Supporters were last night calling for Arsene Wenger to suspend the star over his antics.
One fan said on Twitter: 'Arsenal should suspend Alex Iwobi for his actions on Saturday night and Sunday morning, knowing he was a "senior player" on the Sunday against Forest.
'Sheer stupidity and naivety from him.
'Explains his poor performance too.'
Another said: 'Doesn't deserve to start now don't deserve to be at this club.
'We want him sold or contract ripped up and thrown away.'
One fan threw down an ultimatum to the Arsenal attacker, saying: 'Sacrifice now and become something or be forgotten as a nobody. Your choice.'
But not all fans took to social media to slate him.
Many fans stood up for Iwobi with one even suggesting the late night boosted his performance levels.
A fan said: 'Not really bothered he was out, if anything he played a bit better than usual got got an assist.'
A spokesman from the club refused to comment on the matter, but a source told The Sun the Nigerian's late night could have had an impact on his showing in the cup tie.
This time last year, Iwobi was pictured at a Rae Sremmurd gig with model Clarisse Juliette at the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire.
They split months later having spent three and a half years as a couple, it was claimed.
Juliette was quickly becoming one of the more famous WAGs at Arsenal and posted a picture of the pair on her Instagram account showing Iwobi giving her an adoring gaze.
Her Instagram feed is now almost exclusively pictures of her by herself, mirroring her ex-boyfriend's.

Netherlands had solid structures on ground and they unsurprisingly produced worldies. Your country have barely anything on ground.

George weah was a one-off. Liberia were too busy killing themselves in the bush when Weah emerged.
It is wrong to bring him up in the Nigerian context.

I brought this here specifically, bkus of u - goldfish - I will never forget the comment u made last year about Naby Keita in comparison with our home grown talents. To me, that was a challenge, if only I was at the helm... Nevertheless, Ndidi is saving our faces

Top 100 Most Valuable Players In Europe :
Nigeria's Ndidi Is Second Most Expensive
African
Published: January 08, 2018
Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is
among the top one hundred most valuable
players in the top five leagues in Europe.
According to new information from football
statisticians CIES Football Observatory , the
Nigeria international is worth 77.4 million
euros, or in other words they
recommended that teams interested in his
services will have to cough up that amount
in order to sign him.
No other Nigerian player was included on
the list, however, Mohamed Salah (€140.5),
Sadio Mane (€66.3), Pierre-Emerick
Aubameyang (€64.7m) are the Africans
that featured.
The most valuable in the world is Neymar
(€213m) , who leads the way ahead of
Lionel Messi (€202m).
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is
the costliest player in the Premier League
at €195m, followed by teammate Dele Alli
(€171.3m) and Manchester City's Kevin de
Bruyne (€167.8m).
Ndidi joined Leicester City from Racing
Genk in 2017, with the Belgian club
pocketing 17.6 million euros.
My brother, image small Guinea of 10 million people producing a $70M player while a country of 200 million mad soccer fans have yet to produce someone half that price. We are not doing something right obviously. This Naby Keita guy got his football education in Guinea oh (!). He was not produced in diaspora.

Anyway, I don't think this is the real valuation of Ndidi but it is a big positive.

You're obviously not interested in any suggestion, your question is an elaborate ambush to lure me into naming a replacement for Iwobi which will cause an unnecessary player comparison. I won't bite that bait, sorry to disappoint you.

One thing should be very clear though, a country of 200 million mad soccer fanatics should be producing world class players frequently. The talents coming through the production lines should be so much that non performing players will be replaced without so much drop in quality.

If we can't boast of at least 15 performing world class players with our population, we should bury our heads in shame.
I hope you're in the clear now?

Iwobi has been posting on and off performances for some time now not just of recent we can only continue to encourage alex and make him that he has to up his game same with kc
Obviously you haven't been following events closely.

The other day, I commented about Iwobi's poor performance against Liverpool. The reactions I got was that Iwobi was being criticized unfairly ( there were even pointers to sour grapes for dropping England for Nigeria). Ever since, I've noticed some kind of over indulgence and misguided zeal to defend Iwobi at all cost. Someone even posted last night that he's on the look out for Arsenal fans calling out Iwobi after another flat performance against Nottingham Forest.

Any smart person will figure where this is all heading to knowing the history of another Nairaland fan's favorite here.

Now, like I always say, if you have some advice to give to these players, their social media pages would be a nice place to start.
The social media is very powerful. You never can tell who is reading. His agen, manager or someone close to him could be following this thread or any other forum. Their job description goes beyond finding a club and cutting 10% of the deal, but also they engage fans to guage their pulse and real assessment of the player.

I'm not suggesting Iwobi or even Kelechi is dropped. Irrespective of their form, they sill still make the team because we don't have good subs for them. In a nation of 200 million , this is not good enough. That's why I'm worried.

Iwobi Rated Arsenal's Worst Player Vs Forest, Stats That Show He May Be Replaced By Nelson
Published: January 07, 2018

Alex Iwobi's dip in form worsened in Arsenal's humiliating 4-2 loss to Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday evening so much so that he was rated the joint-worst Gunners player on the pitch.

With Mesut Ozil rested, the Nigeria international was supposed to be his team's playmaker but he was so poor that Arsenal fans were left scratching their heads.

None of Iwobi's three shots was on target against Forest, he had a passing accuracy of 85.5 percent and his defensive frailties and lack of creativity were exposed after making only one tackle and winning one foul for his side.

Comparing Iwobi's performance to Reiss Nelson, who is being tipped to replace the Nigerian in the first team, the 18-year-old made four key passes, had 11 touches more, passing accuracy 88.4 percent, made four tackles and won three fouls.

In the player ratings by Football.London, Iwobi was awarded three out of ten marks, along with central defenders Rob Holding and Per Mertesacker.

''Another poor performance from a player horribly out of form. Played in a deeper role than normal but couldn't influence the game,'' Charles Watts wrote on Iwobi.

In Iwobi's last 18 outings for Arsenal in all competitions, he has scored only one goal.

I am saying Iwobi wasn't above criticism here when he played badly for SE. If we can criticize him when he played badly for the SE, it shows he is not viewed as a sacred cow.
Just come out clearly and say what he did against Zambia and Argentina was a fluke, then we can start talking.

Well, I'm only hopeful that he continues with his recent performances for SE. Because he's been that player scoring in crucial moments for us. It's not like the rest of our players have always been consistent. I want us to do well at the World Cup. And that's why I'm on this thread.. I'm not here to play favoritisms.. to protect some players and attack others. My motive is clean. As long as Iwobi can continue to bring that good recent SE form to the table I am okay.
I don't know what you're trying to prove. Yes he scored a goal against Zambia in his cameo and a very good 45 minutes against Argentina. Between those 2 games, he had a very quiet game against Algeria in Omduman. Before that he was benched in the double headers against Cameroun and was atrociously out of form against South Africa.
He hasn't been that marvelous for the super eagles. I want to make that very clear to you

okay, this is a lie. Last week, I mentioned here that Iwobi plays woefully for Arsenal, so I don't know how you can claim that only you and Omanbala have called him out when I have done same.

Similarly, when it was claimed on this thread that Iwobi is a new face of SE, overtaking Kelechi, I also said that he had only risen to that level because of his last two games for us, not because of consistency

So, I refuse to be lumped into people who have been blinded to Iwobi's poor performance for Arsenal, however, unlike you, I am not in that group that believes we should be very worried.

Why?

Because if you are worried, who will you replace him with? My problem with you worriers on this thread, is that you have no viable options outside these players, so why should you be worried about something you cannot change?

It is up to Iwobi to determine what kind o performance he puts up in Russia, it is up to him to make a statement in his career....he will be in Russia fo sure, so, why worry about what you cannot change?

If you guys can come up with any alternatives, great! But there are some names on that team that have no alternatives and we should therefore, not unnecessarily stress ourselves with worry, but rather, be positive.
Anyway,I cant recall you commenting about his performances. Could be you did so subtly hence I didn't pick it.

I don't understand, you're not worried one of your key players heading into a serious tournament is out of of form? Moreover, football doesn't end at the world cup. His career is on the line. He can't make make progress if he keep performing below par.
The same Nigerians indulging his poor performances will wonder why Nigerians don't win the Apoty.
This is the same with Kelechi, over indulgence and giving him too much benefit of doubt in the face of poor performance have him going from the world best teen in 2014 to freaking Bristol city target 4yrs on.

It is true and u know it. How many times do arsenal fans complain about their back line or midfield? I mean these defenders have made worse errors than John Stones did last season but the coverage has been shockingly less. Iwobi needs to improve but it is not as do or die as the fans make it. He might not have scored much this season but he has been helping his team.
You obviously haven't been following real Arsenal fans. By that I mean, paying fans/ season ticket holders. You can sample their views on legrove, arsetalks,highbury-house and the likes.
They point at Xhaka/Ramsey for not doing enough defensively. Koscielny, Bellerin and Materscaker are other targets
Iwobi is called out for not doing enough offensively. You have to understand these guys pay the highest ticket price in Europe, they have all the right to complain since they are high paying customers.

Most of them aren't even English. Arsenal is a global brand whose fans cut across various country/continent. They mostly don't give a damn about England.

It is a huge misrepresentation of facts if you think they are so petty to call out Iwobi because he dumped England. If that's were you're going anyway.

Th bolded is not true. Arsenal fans have mostly held the club responsible for not investing enough in the squad with a semi retired Materscaker, injury prone Koscielny (the guy have basically been playing with 1 Achilles), Xhaka with no recovery pace, Bellerin (hates defending).
These guys are basically the ones they point out for their lack of resilience at the back.
They call Iwobi out for lack out offensive output and rightly so.

I've already made my point. Iwobi was not great for Arsenal during the period he sent us to the WC and when he scored a double against Argentina. So what is your conclusion on that? So when I say if he keeps performing well for us, that's the context. If you want to judge him by the entire 2017 and say he is not good enough, then what are you suggesting we should do about it?
What is your point really?
My point is simple and very plain.
Iwobi haven't been that great for both club and country if we judge his all round round game in 2017.

What he does for Arsenal matters alot in his development. Hypothetically, he finds himself in league 2 he won't be considered for SE. So club form matters in the grand scheme of things. Club form can never be isolated

Iwobi is not above criticism, he has has done nothing to be above criticism. He's neither Messi nor Pele.

Finally, Arsenal fans aren't out to get him because he's Nigerian. All Arsenal fans are not English. The English ones have long forgotten he dropped England for Nigeria. Rob Holden, Walcot, Welbeck were the most heavily criticized yesterday and they are English.
I took my time to type all these because many posters here seem to erroneously think people are out to get Iwobi because he's Nigerian.

Read my first comment again.
I said i'm fine as long as he keeps doing well for SE.
Why should I judge him by Arsenal standards if he keeps doing for us what he did against Argentina?
it's simple logic. It's not setting the bar low.. It seems like you people want angels to come and play for SE. The reality on ground is that there are few Nigerians getting regular playing time in the big leagues. And there is nothing we can do about that.. Or what solution are you suggesting? You are talking about being over protective of him as if his sponsors are here.. we are just Nairalanders, we don't decide how these players careers go.

When Iwobi was performing badly for SE, many of us here called him out.. Maybe you are referring to another thread where you and Omanbala belong.
In the entire 2017, he had one good game for the national team. That is not good enough no matter how anybody feels about it.
It is a miscalculation if you think he has been doing well for the SE and his form for Arsenal is negligible. Period

Does it not surprise you that his shots are so on point when playing for SE?
There is no logic in complaining about his performances against Algeria in the past etc, when he's done very well in his most recent matches for SE. Judge him by that until he starts performing badly.. When he was doing badly for us, we all called him out here.. nobody is protective of him.. that's just in your head.
It's not in my head. Myself and Omabala have been the few ones bold enough to call him out for poor performances when the majority have chosen to have a go at Arsenal fans instead of looking at the boy's performance critically.

I find it it ironic that we complain about Nigerian players lack of international recognition in individual awards, but we set the bar very low for the promising ones.
This is exactly what you're doing by ignoring his club form and judging him solely on his last game for the national team a couple of months back.

This is not the way to go if excellence is our aspiration.

By the way, I saw the Arsenal game and Iwobi wasn't impressive. Take away the assist, he was rather flat and lost the ball too much for my liking.

I always saw Alex Iwobi as a guy with decent technical level and eye of a needle pass but he seem to loose the ball and misplace passes too easily these days.
I thought the Latino model he was dating a while back was his distraction but he haven't improved since their break up.

Being a young player, he can certainly find his form later but football does not wait for anyone. With the back in form Wilshere,a recuperating Ramsey and speculations of Lemar/Mahrez or whoever to cushion the loss of Sanchez. Things could get really tight for him.
Hopefully, his uncles gets across to him & told him the gospel truth.

You argue everyday because you're devoid intelligence n sufficient points to win argument. I don't need to know u in person to know that you're not a successful person and u think everyone here is on d same page with u
This is uncalled for.You have no right whatsoever to tell a fellow man he's not successful when you're not his god.
You can disagree with what he stands for but saying he's unsuccessful as a person is a very careless and irresponsible statement that must not be encouraged here, otherwise you will have the forum to yourself and your fellow successful people.

You make a valid point but i'd argue that lacking fundamentals is more common in countries where keepers do not have good early grooming.

Almost every top Nigerian keeper, i know, struggled with catching crosses in their youth. Enyeama for instance only improved that part of his game when he went to Israel.
Well , no 2 players are the same. It will be wrong to use Enyeama's experience to judge others.
Guys like like Sunday Rotimi, Dele Aiyenugba, Sam Okoye, Chijioke Ehiogu, Ejide to name a few were groomed in Nigeria but they never had problems with crosses.

European do not rate African keepers. Whilst African keepers are naturally talented, they often lack some fundamentals due to poor early coaching. Even when they have all the right qualities, they suffer from bias.

They have to twice as good as Europeans and that is no guarantee. Enyeama only got to Europe via Israel even with his heroics in Africa.
I have a problem with the bolded. I have seen European and South American goal keepers who are still crap with disjointed technics, poor game management and often, quite shocking anticipation.
A guy like Almunia stole a living at Arsenal, he he doesn't particularly excel at anything.
Jose Pantalimon,Gomez, Tim Carroll, Paul Robinson, Hilario, Helton and a host of others had fantastic coaching early but they were absolutely crap.
How they managed to play top flight footie is pure providence.

Haha... NFF and board room points. i thought Salisu's team selection was better than Oliseh to be honest.

I remember, you talked about Rohr's former jobs though perhaps in a different context.
I talked about his past job when someone was trying to sell him as the best thing ever to happen to our football after the WCQ.

you did not factor the possibilities I pointed out

If Europe doesn't want him (which is funny considering he is over 6ft.5" and has played in Spain for a considerable period), Israel will want him, hell, even in Europe, I reckon France would want him at least or Belgium.

How many high profile goalies does Africa produce for Europe to want them and how many start their European careers in their youth? Enyeama that is even the best African goalie in Europe of recent, started his career in Africa, and his height greatly affected his chances, not his skill

So, if you have a goalie with skill and height, plus youth and experience in Europe, what are the possibilities of some other European team not going for you?
In that case, we have to keep our fingers crossed and see if other teams come in for him. But the odds are stacked against him, must be said.
If you check the over 900 professional football clubs in Europe, I don't think you can find up to 10 clubs who have native African goalkeepers.
This is the odds he is playing against.

By the way, I don't believe Africans don't produce good goalkeepers. Anyone who watch the nations cup will point out very agile and incredible goalkeepers. Kidiba, Mwene, Onyango, Fabrice Ondoa, Adjie to name a few,are better than most European goalkeepers.
If Joe Hart was African, I dont think he will have a job currently.

so, you think Uzoho will remain in Deportivo for the next 2-3 years without seeing first team action? And no be say e no good, he will just remain there for 2-3 years, waiting for someone to have sense? undecided

Especially, if per chance, he plays 1st choice goalie for Nigeria and impresses at some point within this period?

Na wa o
With the arrival of Romeo, he will be 3rd or 2nd choice at best in the foreseeable. He will play a few copa de rey games here and there and that will be that.
Europeans hardly trust African goalies. I suspect they think Africans aren't smart enough to handle the position.

Some people like goldfish80 were skeptical about Rohr's appointment because he had not been to successful in his previous jobs.

Thus far, Rohr has done pretty well and deserves his credit.
This is not true.
It is on record I was one of the few people here who supported Nff' s push for a foreign manager when Salisu was the people's favorite.
It was basically anyone but Salisu for me.
Whenever I recall his Kano pillars team wining the league at the expense of Rangers via board room points, it turns my belly. The man is a fraud.
