marylandcakes: Ingredients 350g flour 300g sugar 250ml butter milk 125g butter ITbsp vinegar 1Tbsp bicarbonate Red food colour 4 eggs Thanks for sharing. I always had this impression that it is compulsory to add a little bit of cocoa powder in red velvet cakes. Did you omit it or is this an indication that it isn't compulsory? Also, what brand of food colour can I use? The gel type e.g. wilton or the really watery type like foster clark's? TIA |

mompurity2: why is it so xpensive?! . I did 4D here in PH for 3K ooooo. Aaaaah!...... I was tld d sex of my babies @almost 11 weeks plus and all the 2D's av done after that confirmed what d 4D said. I'll do another at 30 something weeks. It's the cost of both 4D and doppler ultrasound @ Omvial ikeja. Of course 4D alone is cheaper. |

Peddylove: Hello mama, what's the cost of the 4D scan ? I did it with doppler and pics of the twins were given to me. All @ a cost of N7,500.00. They can also give you video of your baby but it comes at an extra cost. Not sure of the cost cos I didn't opt for it. |

@ Chinwendym God who proved that he is always on the throne would ensure that you are not short-changed. That won't be the only strip you would keep, you hear?
In a related development,Mamas please rejoice with me. A good friend who got married a month after I did and has been TTC for 8years put to bed today. Been shedding tears of joy. We live towns apart so I didnt even tell her that I had twins last year cos I feared she might feel i'm rubbing it in her face that I now have 5 and she's desperate for just one.
Happy birthday dear Zaynie. May your life be filled with joy today and always.
@udoomama have you done a 4D ultrasound? Was told @16weeks by the sonographer where I did antenatal that my twins didn't share sac or placenta and they were male and female.Took it with a pinch of salt cos I no dey see anytin for 2D. Went elsewhere for 4D @20wks and I got the same verdict. In this case,i saw the genitals and the 2 placentae clearly. If you haven't but can afford it please go for 4D and doppler or only the 4D to save cost. |

sayoberry: When my bobo started to suck, I came here to complain too. I was given lots of ideas and it failed. but after sometime I began to enjoy my boy sucking cos most times, both of them will be crying at the same time, but once my boy finds his thumb, he keeps quiet while I quickly attend to his twin.
the brownish thing is also on my twins skin. I don't know what caused it. I used to say too much backing and tightening of the clothes. idk I don't know about the burping.
I can't lie to you, when my son found his thumb, I used to force feed. so many mums are against it but I had no choice. I will not advice you too. but you can do as you please. it took him time to get used to spoon feeding too. but now that he's older, he eats well. ask mamas if they can teach you methods of feeding. Thanks dear. I can totally relate to leaving the baby to enjoy the sucking. I once secretly wished it was my boy that started sucking cos he the more demanding of the two. I observed today that the brownish thing has started peeling off. I hope it doesn't resurface later. That force feeding...hmm. the kind fear wey I dey fear to do am ehn. My MIL's neighbour's baby died after chocking on food that she was being force-fed. So it's a no no for me. I don't even want to imagine what DH would do if he catches me doing it or hears that I even considered it. Thanks @ Hafsat24. In fact you gave it an apt description. i'll try the soap and vaseline thing. Other Mamas and health experts please would multivitamins help with my baby's appetite? What brand do you recommend? |

How are the twins doing? How suck suck? Hope they sleep at night? Plenty questions abi? Am trying to prepare ni oo.
@Ekeminiabasi, ok. It shall end in praise and thanksgiving. Follow your doctor.
Alpha pharmacy is at Alabi street, off Toyin street. The twins are fine my dear sister. They don't stress me out at all. Quite peaceful and playful especially the girl. They do sleep at night. Wake up 2ce each for food and go right back to sleep after eating. No suck suck for them anymore . Was quite ill a while back and couldn't bf them. Was advised by the dr to keep them off bm as the medication I was taking could affect them negatively through bm. I tried to resume when I got better. Sisi no send me. Bobo would suck vigorously yet little or nothing came out. Tried breast pump regularly-no luck despite lots of fluid, pap, tea, putting him to nurse frequently, etc.i could barely lactate. It was a frustrating experience for us. I eventually gave up. I pray they remain healthy for me. |

Mamas in the house please I need your advice. My twins would be 4mths in a week. The girl started sucking her thumbs 3days before they clocked 3 months. Since her discovery, her appetite for food has dwindled. Was forced to start covering both hands with mittens. Funny thing is that she doesn't even cry for food. Try giving it and she just smiles with the teat in her mouth. She always succeeds in pushing out any drop that manages to get to her throat. I'm actually more concerned about the feeding than the sucking. I lost part of my thumb as a baby in the course of several attempts to stop me from sucking so i'm really reluctant to subject her to any form of discomfort. Any tips to help with the feeding? She used eat more than her brother but is more interested in only playing, sleeping and laughing now. Hardly cries too. The only time I manage to get her to eat little is if I attempt to feed her when she's not fully conscious. Once she's fully awake and realises she's eating, that's the end. I also feel guilty having to disturb her sleep to feed her. I don't know how to force-feed a child and I don't even subscribe to it. Too risky IMO. Another thing, she's been burping a lot lately. Too much IMO and most times with spit up. She can burp up to 7times within 2 hrs with spit up after managing to drink just 30 or 40mls. Wetin come remain for belle? She used to take 120mls at a sitting and burp just once after each feed. One more thing, there's this brownish, dry scaly development on their skin. Looks to me like they're both reacting to something but i'm not sure what.Neither their diet nor skin products changed in the last 2 months. So sorry for the epistle my matter plenty. |

zaynie: Congrats Mrsbw. May your child always bring you joy and pride. Amin
@ all, is it not better to be safe than sorry. Pineapple, unripe pawpaw, potash induce contractions. You wont die if you stay away for for 9months. @Godmother, bitterleaf isnt sugar reducing. The most effective way of doing that is not eating sugary food, drinking lots of water.
I didnt believe the pineapple thingy till my last pregnancy, in Moyo's case, I was JJC. I ate all eatables buh in Atinuke's case, I ate just 2 slices of pineapple and contracted all night. I was like this experiment no go put me for trouble. I am a risk taker and took plenty risks with my 2nd belle, buh I am lucky I didnt face any consequence, but u will never find me here flaunting my escapades, I dont want to be responsible for other ppls mistake. We have plenty women that testified that they cramped and miscarried after eating pineapples and you are still posting repeatedly that it does u nothing? Abeg....if it does u nothing and she eats it and God forbid shii happens, what will u do or say? Sorry?
@Smokeydrinkey, I know Feddy's post rubbed u the wrong way cos u hardly ever comment and when u do its to play and say hi buh your reply was harsh sister. If we keep shutting everyone who wants to rant down then what happens? The only reason they can rant as much as they like is cos this is a faceless forum, other people also learn one or 2 things from where we share ezperiences. This is more than a thread for pregnant women. We are like this big family that always has each other despite our differences.
@ Feddy27, I get what your rant is all about as I am always subjected to it every time I hang out with my sisters. One of them once called me unfit mother and we have had countless fights over how I raise the kids. They are both married, very fruitful and ATC. I always shut my usually razor sharp mouth cos I dont want to hurt them and inside of me will be like God answer these girls so that me that is unfit will be their Chief Adviser . I am glad u didnt reply those women and instead came in here to vent, but remember there are also many e- sisters like that, sisters that come in her to chill and use us as points of contacts. Lets be a lil bit more sensitive, you hear. Oya both of you chop kiss Hug and make up, you hear. I just love you Zaynie |

HumbledbYGrace: Finally!!!!!
Good morning beautiful women of proverbs 31. I thank God for our children whom if not of their coming we all wouldn't have been in this thread.
Its been a while, every time I come here I am met by 100+ pages to read and I never ever finish.
Team May how far with shopping ? All I read here is you guys mentioning shops and markets where you buy baby stuff ya'll don't have Jet, Ackermans, Pep, Game, Woolworths etc where they sell baby stuff? Because in those shops you can get 85% of baby things in one store for R2500.00. anyway, I've already packed my own bag, because I don't tjink I will be able to do that in the next couple of weeks.
Experiencing something called pelvic girdle pain and they told me its normal at the clinic when I begged them for pain killers, I felt like strangling someone mxm. The pain is out of this world and I am just wondering if I will be able to push my LO out from down there when its even hard for me to get out of bed to go to the loo at night and hubby has to carry me all the time.
Anyone experiencing itchy palms? This pregnancy is one of a kind that has isolated me from people because I complain of this and that all the time and our African people believe that you shouldn't rest especially now so that the baby won't sleep when its due. There's this Lady who cleans our flat and always calls me lazy whenever we meet downstairs. She always insist I use the stairs, and will shout it loud to hubby that he is spoiling me blah blah. Just thank God for Google, this man has stopped comparing my pregnancy to that of other ladies and gladly offer advise to those who call me lazy. When we go for ANC, trust my hubby to be the one couching other ladies and comforting them as he would share what he has to go through with me on daily basis.
Its been so long, my senior mamas, Zaynie, Modath, chinwendym, Ahnie, gold.mine, mitchy, and everyone else I didn't mention, I have all of you in my heart and I am forever grateful that I found this thread at the right time. Its like a family I always dreamed off, where we disagree to agree on different stuff but still have megalove for each other.
last night I dreamed of twin girls, their birth was so smooth they just slipped out of my down below like water and I was so excited to breast feed them, one looked like me and the other like hubby. I couldnt wait to come and post my birth story here, my joy knew no bounds and when I woke up I told hubby and the look he gave me........I had to laugh it off and said it was a sign for our next missionary journey, he just spoiled my mood for the whole day!
Please pardon the epistle, blame it on insomnia. Look who's back! So good to know you're okay. That pain no be here o. Had it with my 2nd,3rd and 4th pregnancies. Infact it was d return of the pain that 'notified' me that I had conceived the fourth time. Being told to I couldn't take anything stronger than PCM sure was frustrating. Of course you would be able to push your LO out cos you won't even notice the pain as such during labour . 85% of baby things from one store? trust me, if Mamas here in naija could get even 10 or 20% off they won't be stressing themselves shopping for baby things at dosumu et al or moving from one shop to the other to haggle prices and ensure that they don't get cheated. PEP is here, but one can't get a third of what is required from PEP. Besides, I believe PEP here is stuffed with so many inferior things. Woolworths used to be in but they packed up few years ago-Nigerian market wasn't favorable to them. @ahnie you don come again . I don't know what's to be eaten o. Just found myself pregnant with twins after I had supposedly hung boots. On a more serious note though, pray about it. TBH I prayed for twins for my 1st 3 pregnancies and gave up after the 3rd ended up being single but God chose his own time to bless me with them. So,my sister, ask and it shall be given unto you...just ask,daz all! |

olubankemi: @Goldmine, do you mean with leading twin head down one can deliver thru vj despite the position of the other? How please? With the other automatically turn?
@Phummy1821, congrats. Full term and healthy baby in Jesus name. The other may not automatically turn. Might turn with that extra space after twin A is out at d last minute but the chances are extremely slim. Some experienced doctors can quickly turn twinB to a head down position after twin A is out. Some are experienced at delivering breech babies but would rather take the chance at the 2nd twin. Some doctors would outrightly refuse to go ahead with VB for twins either because they do not want to take any chances or they are not adequately trained to do so. There is also the possibility of something going wrong(God forbid it) after twinA is out which would necessitate an emergency c-section for twin B after twin A has been born by VB(the reason some doctors would recommend a c-section regardless of the position of either twin). They don't want to take chances. But if everything is okay-twins almost at term and are big enough,no issues with Mama, twinA head down, etc, then safe VB of twins is possible. It would be help to discuss all options available with your doctor so that nothing comes as a shock to you. I'm not sure how it works for twins who share a placenta. My twins neither shared placenta nor sac. I'm guessing it'll be a more delicate situation for twins that share a placenta and sac. |

I got AI2 Jinobaby (NO insert) and another brand for less(NO insert too). Then I got charcoal inserts from another seller. I must commend, Jinobaby is great!!! The other brand looks quite cheap but cool too (shipping was fast) and the insert was also Great!!
I have decided to invest a little more only on jinobaby with/without inserts).
I was reluctant at first, as to what dh, my mum or anyone would say (I just want everyone to see what I am seeing) but alas dh supported my ministry by getting me a washing machine!! God bless you papi. My mum was super excited and even commended the old nappies revamped into cloth diapers. I am happy!!

Babies are kicking so hard, I no longer understand turning, presenting twin dat engaged abt 3weeks ago just shifted head, but still head down, pls sabi mama's will d presentin twin still b d one to engage and if d second twin engage will still b VB? Jst want to knw.waiting for reply pls Team April for supernatural birth. How far gone are you? From what I was told in my time, it's the leading twin's position that would determine chances of VB. Head down of leading increases the chances regardless of the position of the 2nd. At 35 weeks, my leading was lying across, the other was head down. 36 weeks both were head down and by 37 weeks both were breech. I ended up having a c-section at 37weeks+4days cos the dr said the chances of them turning again had reduced as there was little or no space left to accommodate turning. Also they didn't want to risk having me go into labour with both babies breech as the Dr felt it would be safer to have a c-section. I really do hope and pray for you that both or at least the leading twin remains head down. In the event though that any change would warant a c-section please take it in good faith and do what is best for you and your babies. |

mydreams25: Greetings to all mamas. Firstly,i want to thank the mama that said she gave her baby semo with milk,i tried it last night and guess what?my baby enjoyed it well and dh was amazed i also tasted it and its good, i will continue to mix it with his cereal which i believe will save cost. Secondly pls i need help from senior mothers,am a stay at home mum and want to wean my 1year plus son, am scared of how to start because he is so used to breastfeeding during the day. How wil i cope when he wants to suck,i dont give him and no one to help me carry him to put his mind off it. So many worries in my mind about it now pls help me o as am hoping for a job soon. thanks in advance. I think it would be best to map out a plan and stick to it. How many times in a day do you breastfeed him? It would be easier for both you and your baby if you wean gradually rather than abruptly. If for example he sucks like 6 times a day,the week you start the weaning process you can reduce it to 5 times, the next week 4times,the next 3times. Gradually like that until once(say at night) to once in 2 days before you withdraw completely. You can give him milk or water at night instead or even tea. Just make sure it is closeby so that you can give him before he is fully awake. Trust me,he'll protest initially but will adjust and get used to it after a while. Gradual withdrawal will most likely save you problems associated with engorgement(it's painful o and with no one to help hold him for you, it'll be easy for you to give up and continue giving him as he wants) and incessant crying if u withdraw it from him at once. As babythug suggested you would have to look for creative ways to distract him when he demands for it outside of the plan. And my dear if you truly wish to wean your LO,the heat would be the least of your worries. Bobby must be covered when he isn't sucking! By exposing them you're only encouraging him to demand for it even when he doesn't need or want it. Out of sight is out of mind. The decision and process of weaning isn't an easy one to take. It's easy to give up after a day or 2 of trying and especially when your LO cries incessantly for it. Would have been easier if you were working but as it is you would have to make a strong resolve and stick to it! Wish you all the best. |

Onegai: awesome sauce! Are you in Lagos? what brands did you get? Mowe. I first 'accidentally' stumbled upon the rumparooz brand sold online in Nigeria- www.clothdiaper.ng. Also available on Amazon. Well I feared they were too pricey as I was working with a budget. So I took a chance and bought a few from Ali express-Jino baby brand. Then got Naturally Natures 5-layer charcoal bamboo inserts from Amazon-the one with gusset. Jino baby pocket diaper was surprisingly very good so I bought more. I buy liners from PEP stores. Really wish I could make mine. Not sure where I can buy the right material for liners though. Please do you have any idea? Prior to stumbling upon it,i had never heard of these awesome modern cloth diapers. |
Family › Re: Pampers Vs Napkin by goldmine(f): 6:03am On Feb 13, 2016 |
Onegai: I use clothe nappies, the modern type. They are not harder to use than disposables and I prefer the fit and look of them. I chose them for their looks, economy and environmental factors (it's also preferred by doctors abroad because cotton is a breathable fabric and lets air get to moist places on baby's bum, so fewer rashes). im avoiding exposing myself and baby to so many harsh chemicals and you'd be surprised how many they are in most mainstream products targeted at babies. i have a washing machine though and the Nigerian sun is the best bleach ever. I like matching the nappies to her outfits. Nappies are not hard to use and we get so many leaks from disposables (especially the a nigerian-made ones). Even with washing nappies, I can reuse them for multiple kids so they will always be slightly cheaper than disposables (though we use disposies at night because hubby is on diaper duty then). The modern cloth nappies are super absorbent and don't need bleach, not the old Terry cloth types. There's a push in western countries towards a more organic lifestyle but it's yet to get traction in Nigeria (some few of us are. into an organic lifestyle).
I think you shouldn't force anything on your wife, both of you need to agree on everything. I'm with you on this . With 3kids using diapers at the same time, I decided to go the reusable diaper way. And I have no regrets whatsoever. Quite cost effective plus having to use a washing machine takes away the hassle of washing. No irritability that comes with some disposable diapers. I use the disposable strictly for outing. Plus the fact that the reusable can be used from newborn to toddler and for subsequent kids is the icing on the cake! No need to buy bigger sizes as the baby grows older. Just adjust the setting according to the size of the baby and you're good to go. |
