1.tll me wat dis sevis fee nd i-20 form is all about nd i wnt 2 know if it is meant 4 only graduated student going 4 their masters or meant 4 everyone(even undergraduate freshman)
Sevis fee is the fee paid by all intending non-immigrants to the US (all students and others) while the i20 is a document sent to you by your school after you are admitted and sent in financial statements to help support your visa application.

tell whosoever told u that your birth certificate is needed for SSN,to shut his/her stinking piece of mouth angry angry its a big LIE angry . y u dey disturb urself?enter yankee first then u will be told hw to go abt your SSN in your sch. lipsrsealed
^^^WORD!
I mean why worry about SSN while still outside the shores, you get in, all things will be settled in time.  wink
As per birth certificate, it’s best you travel with it, it may be required for some other purposes such as Driving License. So, travel with it.
As per the last date of transaction, its spelt out somewhere (can’t remember) the statements should be not more than six months old.
The embassy hardly goes into details on the account statements, but then a one- week old transaction on the account will be superbly ideal  cheesy

@Godeagle,
It’s best if the docs you are taking to the embassy are original, else photocopies or notarized copies will do just fine. This excludes bank account statements for obvious reasons.
TravelRe: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by gongoaso1: 4:58pm On Jan 02, 2010
@echo1986
If your sponsor gave you the photocopy, let him get you the original of the statement. Else do not present or even try to present them the photocopy at the embassy. They don't have the time to verify your statement rather you will be probably denied faster than you can say echo  shocked
Otherwise you can go only with the statement that is original and pray hard the amount in there is overlooked.

rockzy:

wow thanks man, but since i cant get my transcript until i graduate i guess i will just have to wait till march
or can i just apply without my transcripts
i read about the international students requirements in some of the schools, and i noticed i will have to send my original transcript to them
While you may chose to wait till you graduate, on the other hand, you can start applying now. Note that transcripts can be sent in to the school regardless of if you have graduated or not. So dispel the notion you can not get your transcripts till you graduate. You can apply with your current transcripts.
Applying to study in the US can be a long thing and I repeat now is the best time to start. You probably will need to sit for some exams,so you can start preparing now. Searching for a suitable school itself is hard work. So pls start your application now.

hi all, i came across this site through google and started reading, then registered,  i also need info on how to get a student visa, u guys are great by the way the way u help, i was able to find some schools through the info in page 11
http://www.webometrics.info/top100_continent.asp?cont=usa_canada)

i will be graduating for my bachelors degree march, is it to early to start applying
please i will like to know, if the i-20 is sent from the school i apply in after sending my transcript
and how much should i have in my account for the embassy to consider me for a visa
any answer/idea  will be helpful, thanks alot
1. No, It is never too early to start applying. Better early than to rush later.
2. The i-20 is sent from the school after you have been admitted and provided your financial status to the school inform of bank statements
3. The amount you should have depends on the cost of your program and costs of living.
Note: it isn't the amount you have in your account that determines solely if you will get a visa or not.

Am going for an interview in few days and my sponsor used part of his financial statement to secure a government job and i was left with the photocopy but the copy is with a bank stamp on it. i have the letter of support from the sponcor but am thinking about the photocopy.PLEASE I NEED YOUR SUGGESTION
No need being nice here. The fact is you are most likely going to be denied the visa if you get to the stage where your sponsor's statements are requested and you present them with photocopies. You still have some days. Beg your sponsor as nethacker said to go to the bank and have the statements printed out for you. The bank will probably charge say 250 naira per sheet.

BTW, What kinda bank will stamp photocopies of an a/c statement (some of which have security features) huh
or is it what I am thinking lipsrsealed

I believe as you have said that you are a graduate. Means you have some documents to back your degree up. Why not seek for admission to an educational institution in a country of your choice and if the money contributed is enough to cater for your tuition and living. Better than wondering abroad aimlessly. undecided

Yink99:
Gongo aso, thank you for the route you gave. Seemed to have arrive 2 plus hrs earlier than other trips to or from Abuja. Roads were alot better even though there were some rally bad spots. But overall, it was a smother trip. Thanks. I sometimes go to Ogbomoso from abuja also. Now on the was to Ilesa, at a roundabout, there was an arrow that pointed towards Ilorin at 130 klm and Ilesa was 85 klm. At that roundabout, if I wanted to take that route to ogbomoso. Are the roads better from that point?
Thank you again.

yink99
Glad to have been of help. If you are to go to Ogbomoso from Abuja, talking the Ilesa route will be longer. Best bet is to follow Kabba axis through a bit of ekiti and cut into kwara. quite a complex route, description will take so much lines. As per the route u inquired, its fairly and relatively ok. Naija roads are no good either way. sad

snowdrops:
When are we going to have a functioning satelite navigation system that covers the whole country? Is there even a national A to Z? Nigeria, long way indeed to promised land.
We are slowly getting there, there is satellite navigation in Lag and Abuja now. Hopefully it spreads round the country undecided

Kwara route is obvioulsy too long and the roads are very very bad

Take the Lokoja route

^^^ u so hilarious grin grin grin

@suxes,
Card payments (US based or not) are NOT accepted again for Nigerian interviewees.
Too bad it came to this. You will not even be allowed entrance into the embassy building without a SEVIS receipt.
If you can't get to pay it, see if u can cancel ur appointment and reschedule.

u may follow the abuja-lokoja-kabba-ekiti-ilesha-ibadan route.
forget mokwa-jebba axis
ignore the okene-akure axis too.

but if u insist, take the ibadan-ife express, branch off at the end to the ilesha express way. then follow through ilesha town. the route is rather complex and full of potholes shocked(an absolute night mare) shocked through ekiti to kogi. my best bet, link up with a commercial vehicle (those toyota buses to abuja) and try to keep up with them.
