OneTemplate: Lol. Your 'topic' is dead and the many informed and educated posters who commented to dispel the ignorance and mischief you're selling ensured that.
In your first comment you insulted the Naira because of your own ignorance and self-hatred only to now be playing the victim when some proud and knowledgeable Nigerians correct your ignorance.
Abeg go back to school. After you have been educated do you not now feel you owe Nigerians an apology with your "big shame" pun against the Naira, below, when the simple fact is that we never needed to redenominate like Ghana where they were paying for a pair of shoes with over a million cedis before Ghana redenominate in 2007?
The only thing that is a big shame is your self-hating ignorance. Are u done? |

OneTemplate: Better than what? Better than being annoyed at the senseless antics off self-hating Nigerians who continue to malign their own Nation with lies and fallacies in the hope of portraying her as worthless to the world?
Do some Nigerians even know what is going on in other nations that their citizens hide only for the same people to be cackling at Nigeria because we do a great job disgracing and belittling ourselves?
Yes we have problems but let's learn to keep it real. Well its my topic. You're just one of the duffs in it. After sometime you'll move on. So keep pumping ur chest |

OneTemplate: You might not like his response but he is telling you the truth. With all due respect, you are an economic illiterate.
Ghana redenominated her currency, i.e took away a few decimal places, so the currency would become less unwieldy so that paying for even a few dozen tin milk would not involve millions of cedi as was the case before Redenominating of the Cedi.
If I had a kobo for every Nigerian who has made this simplistic argument you make, simply to disparage Nigeria and praise Ghana or others, then I would at least have perhaps 20k Naira now.
The value of the Cedi did not increase with redinomation to make it more valuable than Naira. Nigeria too can redenominate the naira today to make 500 Naira 5 naira. Perhaps the simplistic comparison of the new redinominated 5 Naira will show you it remains a more value-inherent currency than 5 cedis. Well UNDUE respect stop acting like it's a rapport form of interaction. His os You're better than your level of criticism. Your intro is for u |

chrisooblog: Yes, in theory it should because the money we make from the little crude oil we sell we blow on importing petrol, diesel, kerosene and subsidizing these products. Plus we import so many things which ordinarily we should be producing here to save forex. Oil imports I think account for about 70% of what we use our FX for. So in that regard the Dangote refinery would really be a big game changer not just in terms of FX saved but also in terms of providing an avenue to also earn FX because Nigeria will now be able to sell refined products overseas.
To improve the value of the naira like seunmsg rightly said we need to be productive. Sort out Ajaokuta so we can reduce having to import steel. Boost our farming productivity so we don't have to be importing maize, palmoil, tomato puree.
So many things can be sorted out but it's the political will that will get most of these things resolved. So its importation. But the land border was closed for a year to reduce smuggling and that didn't really change much, it only raised the cost of items. As for Petroleum product importation, it's really annoying. Cuz it won't really cost the FG much to put existing ones in order. Waiting on dangote (he has constantly proposed completion of the refinery but still slow). So in all of Nigeria isnt there any other refinery other than dangote? |

Politics › Re: Nigerian Naira Vs GHANAIAN CEDI Strength by gonkin(op): 8:45am On Jun 09, 2021 |
seunmsg: In simple terms, we don’t earn enough foreign exchange to keep the Naira strong. We don’t produce anything that other countries require other than crude oil. The little forex we earn from crude oil, we spend almost everything to import refined petroleum products and sell in Naira at subsidized rates.
Political elites and even the citizens are not helping matters. Our elites steal money and horde them in foreign currencies. Citizens also gave a very high taste for anything foreign. So, we keep using our little forex to meet all these demands.
There is, however, a green light at the end of the tunnel with Dangote refinery. Once it comes on board fully next year, we should be able to significantly reduce our importation bills. With other government policies in the Agric sector, mining etc, the Naira May start getting stronger by end of next year other things being equal. I’m just being optimistic. So if we refined our own fuel the currency value would improve? Cuz i take it that strengthening the naira would be easy but why is it losing value. |
Politics › Re: Nigerian Naira Vs GHANAIAN CEDI Strength by gonkin(op): 8:07am On Jun 09, 2021 |
seunmsg: In terms of the intrinsic value of the Naira, it will still be the same. In fact, Cedi has lost over 20% of its intrinsic value since the redenomination.
Naira is weak quite alright but it has not gotten so bad to the point where we need redenomination. Cedi was almost worthless when it was redenominated in 2007. Zimbabwe did the same repeatedly. The only advantage is that it reduces the cost of managing cash, printing money, and keeping records. Imagine having to carry N40,000 to buy a loaf of bread! That’s how bad Cedis was before 2007. How much does it cost to print notes cuz Nigeria switched to polymer notes for 5,10,20 and 50. How can the naira be strengthened and why is it losing value. What and where is the source of the problem |

coolcharm: What can 4 cedi buy? And what can 400 Naira buy?
That's the true measure of a currencies strength.
Don't be fooled by the 4 cedi narrative. Add four zeros (0000) in front of any cedi to get the actual value of it. That's true although all their currencies in circulation still have value. These days people reject N5 notes |

FarahAideed: Redenomination is actually Nonsense what we should be more concerned is the actual earning and buying power we can push to the masses...if you redenominate it doesn't mean the 10k you have in your account can suddenly buy a car Lol that's true. Now Nigeria has a N1000 and few years ago we received rumours on plans to begin printing N5000. What if the currency gets worse before 2025 cuz it certainly ain't getting better |

Good morning I came across a post on Facebook https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10159131958657432&id=502177431I then compared the cedi to the naira and its a big shame Naira is 411 to a dollar , cedi is 4 to a dollar. I remember when i was little sometime around 2004 we used to criticise the Ghanaian cedi. Cuz u would hear statements like 1 biscuit is worth 100000 cedis now how did they fix their currency and how can Nigeria fix theirs. Cuz its a big shame and the idiots in power are least concerned about it. They're more interested in twitter. So what idea or clue can be used to reset the naira cuz them 2 no be mate.

Yeah it happens. During covid 19 some of my friends that worked for other firms were laid off. I really imagined how it felt like and didn't want be in their shoes. Forward to September we got a memo that site is closing down and to be decommissioned. Some were transferred by December I got my letter. I was laid off. I was compensated but the tax chop over 70k. Instead of 500 I go 400 almost below. I worked there for just 2 years. I was jobless for years after nysc just gathering experience started a business that barely lasted a year. Any business without proper funding is BONDAGE.
So i was laid off on the 22nd of December last year. Told my girl the situation. She tried to encourage me that there was hope. I split the cash. Settled outstanding debts, put rent aside in a vault. I calculated the finances would last me till March /April. By January my vehicle was having hardstarting issues. Purchased a battery on the 4th. 5 days later the battery exploded under the hood while my car was parked in the garage. Didn't even drive that day. Just a lil thhhhhsssss and pufffffff. I didn't even notice it was my car burning till my neighbour raised an alarm. See fire from bonnet. Rushed to get my extinguisher the thing failed then I resorted to sand. I managed to put out the fire before it got to the fuel line. I was thinking about the bite I had from replacing the battery and now the car is added salt to my injury.
I slept that night and the incident haunted me in my dreams. The next day I began analysing the damage. Fan, fan shroud, air filter, MAF sensor, coolant over flow tank, paint job and some wires. I do a lot of maintenance on the vehicle myself so I knew what goes where. I managed to fix the MAF sensor soldering. (efficient electrical skills too). I got my inverter battery and as soon as I connected the battery it was a big spark. Traced the short circuit to the alternator and isolated the alternator. Tried again and the car came to life. I was relieved there was no engine damage. So i went to parts market. Spend about 25k for the damaged item. The next day I installed it and began driving. People were surprised that this was a vehicle up in flames 2 days ago. That was an unexpected expenses. And i saw I was behind budget so I visited my parents in lagos and managed to brush off some weeks of expenses. Barely 2 weeks later after telling my girl I can't help her financially like i used to SHE DUMPED ME. Saying she's not sure about me and doesn't want it to hurt me. Well it hurt alot. Cuz when all felt like hopeless I got hope thinking of her. Telling myself at least i have a girl. Well she left. Since then I've been hustling for change. Helping people fix stuff. Endured. Applied for another job but is overdue to begin being that it's a new site and have someone on the inside. Other jobs I applied for diddn't even respond. LinkedIn is like a show-off platform. Even with my buffed up cv and multiple qualifications and training in the fields of electrical, mechanical, asset management , R&D, hse and fire fighting. I still wasn't noticed I made a mistake to avoid temptation spending my rent I paid off 120k to balance 80k. The last 2 weeks has been hell for me. Just patience I have left. In this buhari economy nobody has money to pay for services not even to mention help. Its been over a month I last had meat, I've been eating shitty meals and relating my life to THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS and THE MARTIAN....... I'm at survival stage, cuz i just ate my late piece of yam and all I have left is a sachet of spaghetti and all 3 of my bank accounts combined is N87. Can't steal cuz i hate it. Trying jobs all over. If I had N5000 it will go a long way. I believe by next month I would be called for a job. I've survived on chores since late march but haven't received any tasks since 3rd week of april So if u have something to spare here's my account details.
