thanks bro I just noticed noticed GRE has a quantitative section which has to do with maths n this brought serious fear down my spine bcuz I have never been good in mathematics. Could my ielts alone earn me a full scholarship or partial scholarship in a school that accept the test?
my dear there is nothing serious to worry about in the quant section, there are a lot of books that start from the very scratch like the Manhattan series. Make sure you read such books, moreover, the quant section does not test you on complex and advanced mathematics. it analyses your reasoning skills using basic mathematics. Ace the GRE to increase your chances of scholarship, it will also increase your chances of securing a visa.

Hello people, I got f1 visa approval today, and I really need to post my transcript. To people yet to go for interview, just believe in yourself, not with what you see people do and blue sheets flashing around.
It's just a conversation, not a project topic to defend.
Vo: good morning
Me: morning
Vo: ur study plans?
Me: I plan to pursue my masters degree in telecommunication. And networking at florida international university, miami florida
Vo: why this course
Me: well, telecommunication and networking is a course that I've have great interest since my childhood, my grand mum often called it the sorcery from the western world, and learning the principles of wireless communication has been of huge interest, although I feel compelled now more than ever, with the introduction of the IOT(Internet of things), this seams to be a new wave that would have much applications across most industries and sectors, and FIU is currently the first university in the US to take IOT for undergraduate studies
Vo: did you write standardised test
Me: no, it was waved for applicants with GPA above 3.0 and with a convincing letter of intent.
VO: how many schools did you apply to
Me: well for full application, I applied only to FIU, but I applied to MNSU Minnesota, but my decision from FIU came through, before I could send my transcript to MNSU
VO: when did you graduate from university,
Me: may 2016
Vo: what have you been doing after nysc,
Me: currently I'm on my NYSC atm, to pass out December 24th (batch B stream 2)
Vo: what's your plans upon graduation
Me: to start up an IOT company here in Nigeria, I believe this would be a new wave, that would be high yielding
Vo: who would be sponsoring your trip
Me: my uncle
Vo: what does he do
Me: he is the co owner and CEO of XXXX, based in Houston texas
Vo: your visa is approved, and gave me white paper

Fear not, just tidy your tales, just let your tales flow, do your research, only on. Your school, but also on your tales, the tales is important.
This is my story, thanks family, u guys have been awesome
congrats on your approval, Pls I have a question to ask, when filling your DS-160, did you say you were unemployed or you put your NYSC PPA?

How does an applicant know that he or she is banned from entering US? Will it be indicated in the denial form or how precisely?
if the consulate or embassy decides to tell the person, section 212(a)(6)(C)(i) will be ticked in the blue paper

Please, when reapplying for another interview after getting form 214b, will the person need to fill a new DS 160, or is it the old one that will be used? Before going ahead to pay visa fee and scheduling another appointment.

Hello good people of NL. I have made my payment for the i20 so I should be expecting the document next week. But I have a problem.. I have written the school to request that a soft copy of the document be emailed to me so I can facilitate my visa process but they don't want to reply me. I read someone's post here that said as of yesterday 27th of November was still free but today 6th is the closest date. what can I do please.
you may occupy yourself now by paying the SEVIS fee first, call the international admissions department and tell them if they can send the scanned copy of the I20, if they say no, tell them to mail you your SEVIS number and school code those are the things you need for your SEVIS payment and booking visa...hope this helps

Good morning Nairaland family... I really need ur advice on my case. Was denied visa twice last semester so I deferred my admission .now I have decided to continue d process so I can go for interview by December only for d school to email me that I applied late that I should renew for fall 2018..the issue here is my mum wants me to go for interview dis year, she doesn't want me to waste time. Do you think I should apply to another school so I can go for interview by December or just chill till next yearhuh...ur comment will be highly appreciated. Thanks
spring admission has already closed for most schools. Even if you did see a school that application is still open, waiting for admission decision and processing i20 will still take a lot of time.Time is simply not on your side

Hello everyone in the house.. Thanks for the wealth of information you all are spreading. I have an issue with the university I applied to, the name of the university is California state University Sacramento, I applied on 21st of August and till now, whenever I check my admission status, it showing 'pending department decision'.. I am really beginning to lose hope. I sent an email to the graduate admissions on 30th of October, the reply I got is the attached photo.. Please, should still be hopeful or just forget about the admission.. Thanks in anticipation for your contributions..
I applied to that University too and I was given admit, just keep on waiting and praying and hope for the best, see if you can get your i20 fee and SEVIS fee now so that you don't waste time when the admit comes, is it the only school you applied to?

For Engineering applicants who are looking for extra schools to apply to, you can check Michigan Tech, the graduate school application is free and you can upload GRE and Toefl score report but will have to request for official score report if you decide to enroll. It actually a decent school for Engineering, at least its ranked #62 for Civil Engineering. You have nothing to lose
Can i send the official GRE and TOEFL scores after I have been provisionally admitted?

I was preparing to write Gre and toefl, so should i forget gre outrightly? focus on just Gmat and toefl.

ps: i need full funding from the schools i pick, What do you advise? smiley
Or i should write all three exams?
Are you Kyle xy that will be able to prepare for three exams within a limited frame of time?, that's a big waste of time. Since you need funding, it is highly recommended that you apply to a good school with an excellent test score. Although most schools accept both, some still prefer the GMAT over the GRE, it's therefore better that you take the GMAT so that you don't constrain your choice of schools because of your test score. However, if you've been preparing for the GRE for a reasonable period of time, just continue........just weigh all factors before making a decision.

Visa Transcript.

First I need to state it clearly that God + preparation is the key to F1.
I appreciate this nairaland family. Special thanks to the Boss lady Lagosismyhome - you are a blessing to this family, Imperioux & Bigfrancis - your careful and detailed advise to the upcoming is of great value, Twoods- your constructive criticism sha..but the hard truth has to be told, Walspring - Keep touching lives.
Congrats man, you nailed it, I hope mine turns out to be succ

My interview was on 12th-Oct.
So I got to the embassy by 5am & met them 'staple your docs & get coloured copy of your data page' people. Thankful for the knowledge I acquired here...
I was interviewed by a white guy on window 3.

Me: "Good morning".

Vo: ignores me

Me: (hia!!!ogbeni ogini kwa) "Good morning"

Vo: Looks up & smiles "Good morning my man"

Me: "How was your night?"

Vo: "Fine fine. Yours?"

Me: *Relaxed at this point "it was fine too thanks."

Vo: "I see you are going to school, which university?"

Me: "I am going to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for my Msc in Environmental Science. I will be specialising on Env Tech & Assessment."

Vo: "Tell me about your undergrad?"

Me: "I studied Civil Engineering @ FUTO.. I specialized on Env/Water Resources Eng. For my undergrad project, I carried out a dissertation on the Design of an integrated solid waste management system for futo community. It was at this point I became aware of the impacts of human activities on the environment so I made up my mind on a career in env remediation & protection. I also.." (vo cuts in)

Vo: "Tell me the main problem of solid waste in Nigeria?"

Me: "The major challenge with solid waste in Nigeria is improper disposal. Here, we practice open dumping and sometimes dispose of our waste in waterbodies hence polluting the environment, breeding rodents & pests, and disrupting biodiversity in the rivers & streams..."(I sha kept on blabbing)

Vo: (listening & nodding in concurrence).. "Tell me the factors you consider when designing an engineered sanitary landfill

Me: *whistles(haba!!! From where kwanu).. "Well I would consider location & topography. The landfill must be cited away from the settlement & at a place where seepage from the waste won't affect the underlying aquifer. (*Me I sha wanted to use jargon so it ll look like I know what I am saying very well).

Vo: "So why this school?"

Me: "I am inspired to study at siue because unlike my other admits, the department at siue provides and maintains long-term field sites for monitoring environmental remediation processes. These field sites would be of great benefit to me as my intended area of research focuses primarily on environmental remediation using phytoremediation technologies (*at this time the vo was shaking his head in disapproval then cuts in...)

Vo: "I can see you rehearsed for this.. ok tell me; what fiels sites are you talking about?"

Me: "Well you know that Illinois is nicknamed the Prairie state because of the abundance of grassy plains like the oak savannahs. Siue in collaboration with the us.epa gives the students and faculty access to these restored sites for research. (*He started smiling & somehow at this point I knew he was going to approve me.)

Vo: "Who is paying for this?"

Me: Told him

Vo: "What does he do?"(*begins to seperate my i-20 & sevis from my passport)

Me: Told him.

Vo: Picks white paper and says the magic words. It was really magical. People who have experienced this can confirm.

I advice you prepare well and don't cram your responses as it kinda irritates the impatient ones.

Please pray.

I hereby usher in more Spring 2018 approved visa transcripts.
Congrats man, you nailed the interview, I hope mine turns out to be successful as well, I still dey wait for admit sha

Do US schools require TOEFL/IELTS for undergraduate admission?
Yes they do, some schools may waive it for graduate studies but there's hardly any good school that'll waive it for undergrad.

My guy said 3.583. Why not 3.583388946 lol.

Answering this question is difficult because overall it is just there. Just there, meaning above average but not stellar. Do not be crestfallen however. Several things go into GPAs.

1. Your final 2 years in which you did core courses.
2. General improvement in the GPA from year 1- final.
3. Consistency
4. Core courses related to the PhD or MSc you are considering.

For instance, someone with a 3.5 who hopes to do some research in Interfacial Fluid Mechanics and got As in Transport Phenomena and Basic fluid mechanics courses while in Undegrad may appear to have a better transcript than a 4-Pter who perhaps got Cs there. Also, someone who had say 1.5 from years 1-3 but had 5.0 in 4 & 5 (thus landing on a 3.5) may appeal more to the evaluation committee than someone who blitzed through year 1-3 and wobbled at the final 2 years thus landing at 4.0. As you can see, a lot of things go into it that's why higher GPAs seem to be favored (as it guarantees more As in core courses than other wise).

I feel the need to add at this juncture that other parts of one's application could be the deciding factor even ahead of a GPA. If a renowned Prof in your field recommends you to a school whose committee members are well-known to him, his LOR would be weightier than an unknown Prof saying you are the best thing since sliced bread. Additionally, having cognate research experience like publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals and making presentations in conferences appear to be the best bet towards gaining admission into graduate school.

In a nutshell, don't bother about the GPA as you cannot change it (even if it is not bad). Just work on the other aspects of your application.
thanks a lot...I just hope I get a high gre score to boost my application, my best gpa was in final year(4.428),I just hope that will help
