Hi guru in the house please I want ask some question, I got my i20 recently and I have paid for my sevis (i90) which I am yet receive the confirmation please do I need i90 confirmation to schedule my visa appointment ? Am afraid cuz last nitgh when I was filling my application the available date for interview is 23rd of April and its some days to my resumption date(4th of may) cuz the available date might filled up while waiting for the sevis confirmation, please house do I need sevis ( i90) confirmation before I can book for visa appointment?
No, you don't need i90 confirmation. The only things you need to schedule an appointment are your DS-160 confirmation no, SEVIS ID, visa receipt no and other details that will be in your I-20. Just make sure you recieve the confirmation at least two days before your interview date.

Hello house,

I was denied a student visa last year December, decided to defer university of central missour admission to fall this year. Please, hope during my interview at the embassy by June I won't be ask why defer my admission to fall and not summer this year which is closer to my spring admission last year I.E I don't look desperate or serious to go for my masters.
If a question like that is ask what will be the best answer to the question...hope it not a bad decision in deferring my admission to Fall 2018 not summer 2018?

I know me been denied a visa last year was definitely my fault, cause I was'nt able to convince the VO with my answers to one of her question, the answer was totally out of line to the question asked.

Please, I really need someone to help me with the mock interview, I really want to sing a song of victory after the interview by June. love you all
Your deferment should be your least worries for your interview. The two main semesters are fall and spring. Very few courses if not none are offered by schools during summer and winter, the VOs are well aware of this fact. Focus on working on your flaws from your previous interview and stop worrying about something that isn't worth worrying about...Hope this helps.

Thank you grin
If you can get an employer, getting initial OPT is not difficult, just make sure you apply on time. A lot more scrutiny comes into play if you're applying for STEM extension OPT.

What will be your advise...
Am thinking of applying for university
Which one of the standardize text will I take?
VOs like it when there's an academic progression, a career path per say. CC is just like OND. The VO will likely think that you don't intend to study at all. Your age makes makes the situation worse. What have you been doing since? and why have you decided to study now at this time of life? are questions that will be going through the mind of the VO. Think of all these and make serious changes before revisiting the embassy.......hope this helps.

I’m a final year student in unilag and I’m planning to pursue my masters in public administration. I’ll like anyone who can help me with guideline throughout the whole process.
If you gather information yourself, you'll know a lot more than when you are being spoon fed. When I decided to study in the states, google was my best friend. You can start by googling "studying in the states". Nairaland is also an invaluable resource, start reading the visa thread from part 1 and you'll see yourself answering people's questions, also go to the GRE thread even if you may not know what GRE is for now grin grin. Join facebook forums for US international students. If you can do all this, I bet you, knowing about the whole process will be your least problems......hope this helps.

Hello Gurus in the house; Please, I need answers to the following questions:
I want to do my phD in electrical Engineering in USA and it will be founded by private organisation with the sum of 27 million naira.
I want gurus in house to suggest to me three(3) average Engineering school in USA that is good in phD electrical and have an affordable tuition fees because I’m intending taking my family with me latter . Also can I still write standardize exams for me to get opportunity to work so as to compliment what I have. Please any other advise is appreciated.
PhDs generally comes with a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend(this is enough for the upkeep of one person, we don't know how large your family is) so you do not need to pay anything. However, admission to PhD in electrical engineering is competitive so I,ll advise you take the GRE and TOEFL. It is even part of the minimum requirement for most schools. standardized tests have nothing to do with working in the US, so I don't understand what you mean by that. As regards selection of schools, I believe you'll have to make your own research on that, google is usually one tap away and it will be beneficial to start reading from page 1 of this thread and GRE thread.....hope this helps.

All your records including what is in your DS-160 and what you say at the interview are permanently recorded forever, they are never deleted and are completed exposed to the VO during subsequent interviews.Think of what i just said before making a decision....hope this helps.

Good day. I have a question to ask, I applied to a school for fall 2017 and got admitted but I had to defer it till fall 2018 and my sevis fee was paid on 2, July, 2017. I know a sevis fee is valid for a year and the sevis fee payment would expire this year 1st of July but I would have gone to the embassy before then. I will be traveling on August because of the 30days rule, I want to ask If there won't be problem at the POE because the sevis fee payment would have expired before then
As long as the payment is successfully transferred to your new SEVIS number, you have no problem with regards to that at the POE.....hope this helps.

wow! taking the GRE doesn't always lead to auto increase in score bro. Is that really a criteria for visa application, or only in some case?
if you prepare very well, and work on your lapses, I see no reason why your score shouldn't increase. Test scores is not a criteria for getting visa, it may give the VO an idea that you are really going to the US to study. Some persons have gotten visas without even taking any tests.

Hello everyone, can someone assist with a list of schools that accept a gre score below 300?
If you want to gain admission to a good school and get a form of assistantship, I'll suggest you retake the GRE. Getting a good score also gives the VO an idea that you're a genuine student. If you still want to go ahead with that score, I'll suggest you go to msinusdotcom and use their profile calculator to get a list of schools that may admit you for that low GRE score......hope this helps.

Good morning everyone,

I just got accepted for a masters program in Yeshiva University, New York. I was also offered a paid graduate assistantship and a $5k scholarship (which is small though).

However, I wasn't asked to pay application fee during the whole admission process, although the fee is $50, I was told my application can be attended to and I'll pay later. Okay, so I got admitted now and the school is saying I'll pay a down payment of $500 before March ending to confirm my admission.

I have no problem with that.

Here's my concern now...... Please, does been offered a paid graduate assistantship and a $5k scholarship gives my visa application an edge with the VO, no matter how little it is?

I'm also currently waiting on the admission decision of Maryland University (my first choice but very competitive). I really don't know how long it'll take. Should i really wait on them first or should I pay the $500 down payment for yeshiva?

Please, forgive my long post and questions. I'd appreciate responses to them.
Congrats on your admission. Being offered an assistantship and scholarship truly gives you an edge as it gives the VO an idea that you're a genuine student especially when you also took standardized tests, however, don't completely rely on it as visa approval is a holistic process. On your second question, I'll like to give you a personal opinion. Don't throw away your admission because you're waiting for Maryland. Just make sure you have the $500 ready and wait for the third week of March and if you haven't heard anything from Maryland, go ahead and accept the admission. Yeshiva university is quite a good school....hope this helps.

My brother have been denied student visa twice to study master degree in electronic and electrical engineering at cleverland university, first interview they asked him how many university he apply to he said one university and second interview they repeat the question he now said three university he said the vo look at him and said why why are you lie cos you are here last week you said u apply to just one school and today you are saying 3, he is planning to apply the third time in fall Plz what should he put into consideration while going for the interview this third time. Thank you
the embassy hates it to the bone marrow when they find out that an applicant has blatantly lied to them. However, your lie hopefully does not trigger a ban. Just make sure you are totally honest this time. Your application will receive a lot of scrutiny since you have lied before, you can only bail yourself out if you're totally honest....hope this helps.

Is it good to apply to about 3 different schools in just one state?

femi312, folmos, lagosismyhome and other gurus.....
Let me guess, you have someone in that state cheesy. There's nothing wrong at all, but you have to prepare a solid and convincing response in case the VO decide to ask why, or better still, look for schools with cheap app fees(if you don't have enough money) in other states and apply to them as well to make sure no eye brows are raised in that direction.

I need you guys advice please!!
I recently got admission to do my msc spring 2018 semester but the notification came in late so I was asked to defer to either summer or fall semester, this has got me thinking... When I contacted the school they said starting in summer is a great idea as long as some of my courses would be offered and this can help to speed up my education at the uni...but my question is that will they understand this at the embassy or should I just defer to fall(even though I would love to apply for summer though)
Thanks in anticipation
As long as the school can send you an I-20 indicating that you are indeed going to start studies in summer, you've got no problems.

I wonder why this your friend is in the shadows and you are now his spokesman. Anyways, we do not know why your friend was denied the visa in the first place. just keep in mind that if that reason still exits, then he will continue to get the blue paper. But should it be something he can circumvent, then perharps, the VOs could have a rethink. It would be a total waste of time and money if he continues to visit the embassy when there are no significant changes in his profile....hope this helps

I did all the application my self from scratch following the guidelines on nairaland here, I need you people's help ooo. Pls oooo
And thanks to akinsola for helping me with mock transcript. You will approved too by Gods grace
congrats on your visa. since you have succesfully transfered your SEVIS fee to your new I-20, wait for the two working days for it to reflect at the embassy, then send your passport at DHL. You should get your passport in circa 1 week(if no holidays). when a person gets a change of I-20 with a new SEVIS number, you must modify your profile at fmjfee.com before going for visa interview. If you had followed this process before interview, there would have been no waste of time......hope this helps.

I know oga twood will defer but as a student of politics I can sense a major shake up in United States immigration policies vis-a- visa visa policies
nothing has changed in US immigration law, the reason why there are so many delays is due to the fact that the number of persons attempting to abuse the F1 visa has increased probably due to harsh economic conditions in Nigeria

Thanks big time ... But can any of this process grant a permanent residence
OPT cant get you a permanent residency since it is under the F1 visa which is a non immigrant visa, however , the H1B is regarded as a dual intent visa, meaning that should you be granted the H1B, your employer can also file for permanent residency for you and you could be granted.pls note that the entire process is rigorous and costs thousands of US dollars, so you have to be very talented for your employer to want to invest all that money on you.
